Mid-Valley Chimney Repair & Sweep

Matthew was quick to respond to request and first to come out and provide free estimate on repairing 60+ year old 8' wide chimney. He was the only contractor who recommended grinding out all mortar joints and tuckpointing all with new mortar. He thought it would be best to remove top 3 rows of brick and replace with two rows of new matching brick and a 5" concrete crown with 1" drip edge. Also replaced about 4 damaged brick then sealed all with product that blocks moisture from entering brick but allows moisture to escape. Provided 8 year warranty on work and sealant. Very professional crew who were polite & finished in 2 days as quoted. A+!

Matt Simpson was very professional - courteous, on-time and very helpful. He came to my house to examine my direct vent fireplace that was intermitently going on & off (while on). He checked it out and recommended ordering a replacement thermocoupler (mine was a few years past due for replacement). I agreed and he ordered the parts; however, I noticed that whatever he had already done had (at least of now) fixed the problem. When I called him back to tell him and offer to pay for a house call he declined and said he would use the ordered parts elsewhere. I have NOT DOUBT that when I need to fix this again, that I will call Matt!

When Matt came out to our house he was very pleasant, informative, and knowledgable as to the needs of our fireplace. He also understood that we are on a budget and did not go into the many extras that many contractors would go into; he explained exactly what needed looked at and possibly fixed and is going to come back to take care of the repairs.

Everything went as told during the estimate. Found instead of a bird nest in one flue two baby squirrels one dead and one alive which was set free in the front yard. When the cap was removed it was found that three bricks on the top were loose and needed to be secured. One flue was lined and one not. The flue that was not lined was to the fire place and Matt told me not to use it because there was light shining through the bricks, the brick joints needed pointing and that side needed to be lined for safety and meet code requirements. They kept thing as clean as possible and cleaned up after the job was done.

I used Mid-Valley for sweeping and level 2 inspection. Sweeping and inspection was performed fine, but estimate that they gave me for repair was about double of what I was able to find late from other company. I would recommend to do your homework before you hire anybody for chimney repair especially if the same people did your inspection
