We obtained 3 quotes for replacement of our residential wood fence. Dalton's quote was in the middle for demo/removal of 318' of picket fence, and installation of 318' of a wood "Kentucky Horse Board" (very similar to a split rail) with dog fencing. Dalton provided addresses to drive by to see that type of fence. They arrived at 8am on the day they said they would, got the old fence removed, new holes dug, new posts set in concrete and left around noon. Returned the next morning, got all the fencing installed, including some minor "custom" work and were all done by noon. I think there were at least 5 guys running around working hard and diligently with no standing around chewing the fat, etc. Owner Mr. Dalton was on the job and working with the guys. We and the neighbors are extremely impressed with the quality and look of the new fence. They showed up, started the job, wrapped up the job entirely within the time frame they said they would. Now, granted, weather was fully cooperative, but still. Further, there was the challenge of installing the new fence along the back property line, 2 feet away from the neighbors' existing metal fence. On top of that, there was the occasional annoyance of the neighbors' aggressive/snarling/barking German Shephers and Great Dane. Dalton's crew took it all in stride.
Description of Work: Removal and disposal of a 31-y.o., 318' linear foot fence. Replaced with a new wood Kentucky Horse Board (similar to a split rail) with "dog fencing", with new posts set in concrete.

Jerry and his team at Dalton Fence did fantastic work for us on South Main St. in Middletown, OH. They were informative, kept up excellent communication with us, were very easy to work with, got our job scheduled and completed very quickly in the middle of a busy summer season, and built us a high quality fence for a very reasonable price. Strongly recommended!

Description of Work: Individuals who quoted job were personable and professional. Installers did not communicate even though me and my daughters were home. My only request was that bottom of fence be very tight to ground as I have small dogs. It isn't and I now have had to purchase $250 in stones to use as border to keep dogs from going under fence. Also back fence was moved inside the property line by almost two inches. This caused my grapevine that has been in my yard over 35 years to now be in my back neighbor's yard. Fence looks nice but I am not happy with workmanship at all.

After retiring from the US Air Force, we spent several years in an apartment searching for our home to purchase. On the recommendation of a friend I selected The Dalton Fence Company. They came out promptly and provided an estimate. However the work was delayed nearly two years due to a property line dispute and so Jerry came out to re-measure and provide the final estimate. Based on my friend's recommendation and reassurances from Jerry that they use only and quot;QUALAITY WOOD NOT FOUND AT LOWES OR HOME DEPOTand quot; we felt really good about choosing Dalton's. Plus Jerry said if I wanted additional gate hardware it would be no problem. and gt; The work was completed quickly (two days!). The first day they set the posts to close off the front section of my yard and meet neighboring fences, the second day it was done! I was so impressed with the quickness, reasonable cost, promise of and quot;quality materialsand quot; and guarantee of workmanship satisfaction I not only paid them in full and with cash (bad move) but scheduled them to complete fencing the rest of the yard. With the new estimate the entire job would have cost around $5,000.00. and gt; TWO (2) DAYS AFTER FENCE COMPLETION The fence was literally falling apart! Splitting and shredded by an unsharpened saw blade , knot holes began falling out, whole slivers of wood began popping out and you could literally push a finger right thru the wood from one side to the other! A call to Jerry was immediately placed and we were reassured reassured again that they do buy from Lowes or Home Depot and use only and quot;qualityand quot; wood. Pulling off one of the many stickers littering my newly built fence the tag read www.welco-usa.com which is the EXACT brand found at Lowes and Home Depot! Jerry said since the problem was not structural they would fix it when they came back to complete fencing around the rest of the yard in a couple of weeks. and gt; ONE WEEK LATER I called Jerry to cancel the upcoming appointment in three weeks expressing concern about boards beginning to and quot;bowand quot; inward, outward and well...every which way! Cracking, splintering, splitting and with knot holes and sharp nails popping out everywhere between dangerous saw-shredded wood the fence looked like a 10 year old sieve! The wood seemed dry rot and of poor quality even for Lowes or Home Depot! A finger can be literally pushed clean through this wood in places! Once again Jerry told me the problem was cosmetic, not structural and therefore would be addressed when they found time in their busy schedule. and gt; THREE WEEKS LATER and well into the end of June, I contacted Jerry yet again to express my concerns over having the damaged boards replaced so that I might stain the fence for the upcoming July 4th family holiday and to complain about post hole debris dumped behind my shed blocking yard drainage during heavy rain, behind my air conditioner and in my flower beds!! and quot;I already told you that we are too busy with other clients to run back to your property and we will get to it when we can!!and quot; Wow. Jerry went on to tell me that it was impractical for them to haul away post hole debris...(not my expectation of course) ,but perhaps I could have directed them to an acceptable area other than behind my shed, air conditioner and flower beds if asked? I told Jerry how disappointed with their lack of professionalism and suggested customers don't buy gym shoes with no strings or a car with no ignition and accept being told and quot;get back in line and we'll get back to youand quot; Realizing Jerry really didn't care what I thought I told him to do whatever he wanted he retorted, and quot;I willand quot; and hung up. and gt; TWO MONTHS LATER The doorbell rang. I was surprised to find Jerry on the porched unannounced since I was expecting another company hired that very day to finish Dalton's work. Jerry hurriedly replaced boards, removed one rubbing against house siding and admonished me against waiting and quot;too longand quot; to stain the fence. I pointed out that I was and quot;waitingand quot; for Dalton Fence to replace boards so that I stain. He apologized for the delay and once again told me how busy they are. I asked if he might be able to add the additional hardward and after a long drawn out sigh that said (I really don't want to), Jerry said I'd have to wait until he found time again...I thought to myself: Jesus might come first and so I thanked him for any inconvenience and said have a nice day...to which he responded and quot;He had one more job to do yet today and it was much bigger than mine!and quot; and gt; FRANKLY? I think that may have been the problem all along: My job was too small , to compete with the prospect of higher paying customers. Today? I still do not have the additional hardware but I think my maintenance guy might know how to do this. I am terribly disappointed with this now stained cheap, and cheezy looking fence from www.welco-usa.com. They are STILL curling in and out. I am disappointed with the huge fence gaps, splintered, splitting and saw shredded wood. Mostly I am disappointed because I knew two years before purchasing my home that DALTON WAS THE ONLY COMPANY I WANTED TO BUILD MY FENCE. They let me down and not because they are incapable but because they need to hire people to help so that they can continue to provide the quality affordable fencing I KNOW they are capable of! and gt; ADVISE TO CONSUMERS: Dalton Fence is totally CAPABLE of outstanding work. .My friend's fence is proof positive. They are affordable and quick but be home when they come, tell them where to deposit post hole debris, don't let them leave without a walk thru inspection and always pay any company by check only! Finally and most importantly either pick your own lumber OR inspect it before it leaves the truck. and gt; Advise to Dalton: Never make a customer (especially one that has paid you in full) feel less important than upcoming jobs...$5,000 may not be a lot to you to pass but for someone who waited 2 years just to experience your professionalism, workmanship and and quot;qualityand quot; product and services it is probably too much to pay. Customers will always tell others how they experienced you...good or bad after all that is how I came to be your customer in the first place. Unfortunately, our experience left us feeling too small to be treated professionally and like a pain in the butt because of legitimate concerns about the quality of the fencing product. The product is not you! It is not personal and you don't have to defend wood like it is your reputation. Never blame your customer for not staining a fence you would not return to replace boards. Never, ever tell a customer frustrated with your lack of professionalism you'll do what you want and when you want to...it is just bad business, unprofessional and highly obnoxious. If your past customer's job is not as grand as your next customer, its ok to NOT say that...probably best. Because of my own professional business, I meet a lot of people and some ask and quot;Who put up your fenceand quot;? I always tell them and give them the bottom line which you will read below: and gt; Bottom line: These are good people who seem overwhelmed by demand and probably need to hire some folks. I have seen the quality work they are capable of and the quality materials used at my friends home. Unfortunately I do not feel I benefited from the same. The wood still looks like it came dry rot from home depot/lowes. They are affordable, quick and capable. Be specific and detailed with them and never let them walk away without an expected return date. Make sure you are home when they do the work and make sure YOU know what you want and it is accomplished before you pay and before they leave. A walkthrough inspection is a good idea.

This was a joy to watch. Unlike other skills that we are depending upon Dalton fence showed up exactly when promised and kept to the contract schedule. They were flexible enough to handle a last minute change without blinking. Jerry's crew worked almost like a ballet with very little conversation and each worker knowing exactly what to do next. When finished they completely cleaned up the work area and removed the remains of the old fence. Couldn't be more pleased. We will use this contractor on a future front yard project.

Everything went perfect with this installation. A written estimate was given at the end of the appointment. Brochures and information were provided to assist in my decision. The price was the most reasonable of all estimates received. The work was outstanding. Everything was completed on time and the area was cleaned up. The cedar fence is straight as an arrow and every board is square. The alumnum fence is the showcase, and the arched gate and fencing across a hill at one end of the pool looks very upscale. Jerry provided the estimate and was on site for the installation. Part of the aluminum fence was installed over concrete and he was very helpful to identify to me the potential location of the underground pool lines, and was careful to ensure drilling through the slab wouldn't harm any lines that may be there. Very good team to work with. I'm using them again for my next fence project.

I worked with Jerry and his crew. They arrived on time and performed the work in the time frame specified. The crew was friendly and did a great job cleaning up there mess. There were a couple issues we had to work through, but after a brief discussion we were able to find a positive solution to the situation. All-in-all they were very easy to work with and did a great job in all aspects of the work performed. I would and have recommended them for work to be done to my friends and neighbors.
Description of Work: I have a large lot, approximately 2 acres. They removed my old fence and put up a new fence surrounding a smaller portion of the yard. The post were sunk with concrete and each cross beam was nailed together at the post to prevent slippage when tightening of the brown wire mess mounted to the inside of the fence. They also installed two (2) eight foot gates and one (1) four foot gate.

Dalton Fence showed up as scheduled with a full crew and completed work in 1 day. Everything looks good. I do recommend having someone home when work is being done to answer questions if there are any unusual factors. In our case only 3 of the 4 sides of the yard were being replaced since 1 side was replaced a few years earlier. There were also shrubs bordering up to the new fence which made installing the wire mesh to the inside of the fence challenging.
