 + -1 moreI finally found the best all-around pool person: Howard Grossman. Previously, I hired separate contractors for pool opening/closing, heat system, filter system, and pool liner problems. This proved challenging: if one contractor could not fix the problem I had to schedule with another - and explain the issue once again. Howard does everything related to the pool and surrounding area. On May 22 (height of pool opening season), I contacted Howard because the pool heater would not work. I had just received a $900 estimate from another contractor to fix the heater after Memorial Day. So, Howard arrived (same day), asked questions, and told me only one $40 part needed replacement. Until that part arrived, Howard did a temporary fix and my heater turned on immediately. Since I had weekend guests, this was MUCH appreciated. As an aside, I mentioned to Howard that I lost suction when manually vacuuming the pool. He called me the next day - asked a few questions - and explained why I had low suction. Lastly, I needed an automatice pool cleaner. Based on Howard's recommendation (and directing me to an e-bay site) I purchased an awesome cleaner and a great price. Howard's greatest attribute is his uncanny ability to identify the real problem and brainstorm "work around solutions". His insights corrected additional problems I was experiencing but did not know how to address, hence fixing a problem before I burned out expensive systems. Howard is responsive, very experienced, provides integrated pool services, and proactively trouble shoots. I highly recommend Pro Pool and H. Grossman.

 + -1 moreHoward was great to talk to when you could talk to him. He came out and gave me an estimate in mid March, mailed me a proposal and I signed it and faxed it back to him April 2nd. In mid April I had not heard from him so I emailed him through his website - no response. I waited a few days and then called when I noticed on the contract he had transposed numbers in my phone number. We set up a date to drain my pool and get measurements for a new liner. I have been traveling extensively lately and set up a day and time that I would be home. (12:30 on a Thursday) I turned my phone on when I landed and there was a message from Howard that he was at my house...(9:30am). I have called several times since and left several messages, he hasn't even given me the courtesy of telling me he doesn't want the job. 5-17-2012 Howard and I agreed that I would give him a check when they came to drain the pool. The appointment was for the afternoon since I was traveling home that morning. To make it look like I was at fault is altogether another issue - shame on you.

He ran into a couple of problems while installing ther new vynyl liner for my inground pool at the end of September 2011. He could have not have mentioned them, but he knew down the road I would have problems, so he felt he had to rememdy them or he would not feel comfortable with his decision. the job took longer than anticipated, but he completed the job right. Howard and his crew including his son answered many questions i had about pools and taught me many things I would have never thought of! I highlt recommend both Howard and his son for all your pool and spa needs!!Being in business for myself for many years, I know how hard it is to find people with as much honesty and integrity as Howard and his son. We were originally going to use the "big" company that sold us the hot tub, but got turned off by the cold matter-of-fact way they scheduled us (first thing out of their mouth was price and customer responsibilities). Howard answered my call on the first ring (no machine) and was all too happy to chat with me even tough he was out with his family. He and his son both played hockey and lioved hearing that my kids do too--genuinely seemed interested in us. He arranged for a date to look at the tub and gave me tips to keep it warm until it could be repaired. His work was quick and clean and he worked around our schedule. Friendly, prompt, and knowledgeable! Price was what I expected. Great experience!

 + -1 moreWe were very pleased with the service. Howard and his workers are pleasant, informative, and responsive to any questions or concerns. We have asked them to service our pool throughout the season and they will be closing it in the Fall. Very happy with their price and thier services.
Description of Work: Pro Pools drained our pool,took out our previous pool liner, replaced it, after inspecting the sides and floor. They also took out and replaced two concrete pads that anchor the ladders, then refilled the pool.

 + -1 moreOverall, I was anticipating a Solution, not a Sales Job.
Description of Work: We contacted Pro Pool and Spa via Angie's List which rated this company highest in our market area. Howard was late for appointment which was disconcerting as we are small business owners with time constraints. While on the premises, we asked for his professional opinion about Solar Heating for our 42,000 gallon in-ground pool. We also wanted to know if our Pentair 250 BTU Pool Heater would work this year after three years sitting idle. Howard didn't give much credence to Solar for our particular location. So, he looked at our Natural Gas Heater with his assistant for approximately 20-Minutes. After his "complete" assessment of the heater, he pronounced the unit "dead". We would be looking at a replacement unit, and he recommended a Commercial Grade Unit from RayPak to replace what he referred to as our "workhorse" Pentair. On the hood of his Pickup Truck, we paged through his brochure. For $2,800.00, he could install a new 250+BTU Raypack Natural Gas Pool Heater. I took his information and began investigating the price for the same unit at other retail locations and, online. (I did find the very same units (non-commercial) for about 1/2 the quoted price of the same BTU-sized Commerical RayPak.) Meanwhile, our office building required some A/C work and we called our Heating & A/C and boating buddy to have a look. It was during this visit I mentioned the prognosis to him about the pool heater. He suggested that he give it a look. After he finished at the office building, he came by the residence, and after a few minutes of fiddling with the Gas Valve and Wires, managed to start the "dead" pool heater. Upon further investigation, he determined that the only "dead" part of the Pool Heater was the Thermostat. After re-wiring around the failed thermostat, the unit lit right up. Its a month later and the pool is nice and warm, without the expense of a new commercial-grade unit as suggested by Howard. Net savings for having a second opinion: $2,800.00 less $60.00 or $2,740.00! I can only assume that Howard came to our nicely appointed home in Westlake, and surmised we had money to burn. As a result, I give Pro Pool & Spa a "D".

 + -1 moreWe've had a problem with our spa for over a year spent $300.00 having a west side company come in last February and never really fixed it right. Howard came in, diagnosed the problem and fixed it. Had to order parts but even with that the repait was done timely. Then,we notice a problem on New Years Eve at 6:30 or so and he called us back imediately. Very responsive!! I also feel very confiden that if we have a related problem in the near future he'd address it timely and properly. It turned out to esetially be a loose wire. I'd use this guy again and highly recomend his service.

 + -1 moreMy Hayward filter needed a sand replacement. I purchased the sand and attempted to do it myself, but ran into some problems, mostly because I did not know enough about the procedure at the time I did it. I called Pro Pool at the phone number provided on Angie's List site and talked to Howard. It was Saturday, yet Howard took his time to find out as many details as possible to understand my issue. He indicated that it may take a couple of days before they could stop by and take a look at the filter. Chris (Howard's assistant) did it on Tuesday! I did end up calling Howard couple of times before we worked out the appointment details, but I still grade the Punctuality as A, because the job was done very soon after my first call and it was done right! Additionally, Howard was extremely courteous and he did warn me that they would be in the middle of some big project that they had to work around to accommodate my needs. Thank you so much for your help, Howard and Chris!

 + -1 moreOur pool heater was leaking and the first guess was the heat exchanger was rusted through. Repair would have cost over $1000 and we began discussing simply replacing the entire heater for around $1500. As we talked Howard started looking more closely and said, "wait a minute, you may be the luckiest guy around". He discovered a small pipe holding the pressure relief valve that had a crack in it. He replaced the valve for about $150 when he could have easily ignored it and sold me a completely new heater for 10 times the cost. I really appreciate Howard's honesty and integrity, I will absolutely use him again!

 + -1 moreIHe then asked how handy I was and proceeded to talk me throught the diagnosis over the phone. With Howard on the line, we found the problem, and told me what needed to be done and how much it would cost. He told me that i could do it myself and save money. He also explaned that the part thta was broken, didnt need to be fixed, and I could just bypass it. Since it is an older model, I didnt want to spend a whole lot of money on it, I disconnected it, and the hot tub works great. It is rare to find such honest and helpful contractors who are there to help, not just work for money. Howard didnt charge me for the help, but I can assure you that when I do need hot tub service, I will call Howard

 + -1 moreContacted Howard due to an airlock on the circulator pump. He called me back within 5 minutes of leaving a voicemail!! He first gave me some suggestions over the phone, which would have saved me a service call, but I had already tried these. He arranged to come out the next morning (I called at 5:00pm on Saturday, and he was arranging to come out for the service call at 9:30am Sunday morning!!!). Overnight, the airlock corrected itself, so I called Howard to cancel -- no need for service. Even though I did not need his services this time, I will definitely use him again should I need service in the future. His responsiveness and willingness to help were outstanding.
Description of Work: Airlock on circulator pump after re-filling. This disengages the heater, and keeps the spa from warming up. Needed service to fix the airlock.

 + -1 moreHoward Grossman is a true professional and dedicate to make sure the customer is 100% satisfied with the service he provides. It was not easy to repair the pilot light on the pool heater due to corrosion but he stayed with the job and got it fixed. He even called back later that night to make sure the heater was still working properly. Amazing!! He also gave me a few tips about pool chemistry and the best way to maintain proper levels of chemicals. His price was unbelievable for the amount of work he did. We would definitely use Pro Pool again!!
Description of Work: the natural gas heater for our swimming pool would not work due to problems with the pilot light. I found Howard Grossman of Pro Pool on Angie's List and set up an appointment. He arrived on schedule and rebuilt the pilot light and got the unit back in service.

 + -1 moreI have an indoor pool and have dealt with many pool companies throughout the years. Usually it is a long wait to get them to come out, if you can even get them to return a call. Howard Grossman returned my call promptly and was able to fit me in later that same day. He repaired the pipes and explained many things about the filter system to me along with giving me many tips on operating the pool efficiently. He returned as promised two days later to troubleshoot the reason for my ventilation fans not working. The total cost for both visits combined was under $200. He was extremely pleasant, knowledgeable, and reasonable. I am very glad that I found him and would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone who has a pool or spa.

 + -1 moreMy request for service was addressed promptly, the hot tub was fixed correctly, questions answered. The cost for the repair was fair, as was the service charge for labor. Took the time to answer questions I had. Would certainly call the company again, should I need further work done.
Description of Work: Our hot tub's computer system was not working. Pro Pool came out, diagnosed the problem, and ordered the part. My phone calls were answered promptly. I was advised of the cost to replace the computer system. The spa was repaired, the cost was the same as the estimate, the work was done professionally, was able to fix the problem even though the replacement part was no longer available and had to substitute another board. Another problem developed with the temperature sensor, that was fixed promptly and fairly priced. It was necessary to have them back for another minor problem with the temperature, which was taken care of at no further charge.

 + -1 moreI INHERITED AN 18' ABOVE-GROUND POOL WITH MY HOUSE. HOWARD GROSSMAN NORMALLY DOES IN-GROUND POOLS BUT HE WAS VERY WILLING TO HELP ME OUT. I USED HIS SERVICES TO OPEN THE POOL AND GET CHEMICALS AND A POOL COVER. HOWARD GAVE ME A LOT OF HIS TIME EARLY IN THE SEASON TO MAKE SURE I UNDERSTOOD WHAT I NEEDED TO DO TO MAINTAIN THE POOL ON MY OWN (ALTHOUGH THEY DO OFFER SERVICES TO MAINTAIN YOUR POOL). I CALLED HIM BACK AT THE END OF THE SEASON TO CLOSE THE POOL AND AM PLEASED WITH THAT EXPERIENCE AS WELL. HOWARD HAS BEEN EXTREMELY RESPONSIVE AND VERY WILLING TO ANSWER QUESTIONS. WHEN HE COULDN'T MAKE IT OUT DUE TO WEATHER, HE WAS PROACTIVE IN LETTING ME KNOW. HIS KNOWLEDGE OF POOL MAINTENANCE WAS EXTENSIVE. AS A FIRST-TIME POOL OWNER, HOWARD WAS INVALUABLE.
