Description of Work: Our water heater went out and I purchased a new one at a major home improvement chain(the one with blue/white letters and rhymes with lows). The chain was going to charge me $285 total for preinspection and install. Upon preinspection, they told me they were not able to install the water heater because of our old home's galvanized pipes and that I would need to hire a real plumber. The chain will only do a copper to existing copper install. I hopped on Angie's list (first time ever using) and they recommended a few plumbers in our rural area that were all outside of my county. The first call was to a plumbing company located in Richland county and they refused the service request. Then we called Emergency Plumbing Services in Delaware. It was late on a Monday afternoon. They said they could be out first thing Wednesday morning. They charged a total of $385, which included a $49 out of county travel expense. The extra $100 was well worth it considering all of the extra work they had to do to install the heater. The install included cutting out about a foot of bad galvanized piping. Properly installing the copper connection to the galvanized piping to prevent the electrolysis and connecting another copper pipe that branched off to our dishwasher. The finished install looked very professional and was completed in about 3-1/2 hours.

+ -1 moreAbout an hour before our guests arrived for Thanksgiving dinner, our kitchen sink backed up into the bathroom sink. Neither sink was usable for the next 5 hours as my husband and brother tried to snake the pipes. We couldn't locate the source of the blockage, so we called Emergency Plumbing. We had used them in the summer for our main sewer line and were very happy with their service. Even though it was Thanksgiving night, a technician came out within the next few hours and tried to remove the clog through the bathroom pipes. He couldn't and within a half hour he had to leave for Thanksgiving dinner. About an hour later, he came back to try the pipes from the kitchen sink. He succeeded--all within a total service time of one hour. He was very friendly, professional, and helpful. We love this company!

+ 0 moreWe had already called 2 other companies to remove tree roots in the main sewer line and give us an estimate for replacing for the line. One company did not remove the tree roots as they said they did and lost part of their cable in our sewer line. They also recommended we replace our entire sewer line. The other company said we did not need to replace the sewer line, but said it didn't want to try to remove the cable from the other company in case it damaged the line. Emergency Plumbing was our third call. They came in, thoroughly cleared out the roots and the snake cable left by another company. The owner then looked at the camera footage from the 2 previous companies and told us we didn't need to replace the line as the roots were only coming in at the spot where the clean out connects to the main sewer line. Instead, we can continue to cut out tree roots once a year for regular maintenance, just as the second company had said. This saved us several thousand dollars. Very fair, honest, thorough and helpful! We will definitely be using this company again.

+ -1 moreI had a battery backup installed several years ago, but the battery maintenance was a pain and the display on the backup does not let you know when it's time to change the battery (every three years). It failed when we really needed it. When we experienced problems with our sump pump after recent rains, I called Emergency Plumbing and talked with Jennifer and got an estimate for a new sump pump and a water-powered back up. Neal and a helper showed up on time and got the job done efficiently. They were also careful removing parts and cleaned up satisfactorily. The service charge matched Jennifer's estimate. I would recommend them to others.

+ -1 moreI have used this company for years. They have done my plumbing and I was very satisfied. I referred them to my neighbors, and they were just blown away about how low the estimate was. They have always been fair with me. They had also brought an extra person, to make sure they had enough people to carry the old toilet. They had all the parts with them, there was also a part that did not come with the toilet and they had it in the truck. They were also very courteous. A negative is that they don't always clean up how much I would like. I had a white wall and it was not the cleanest afterwards, but I told him to use plastic next time and he did. For the most part he is really good.

The company sent a painter to do the repair and repaint a large portion of ceiling in order to ensure color match. The repair job done was very unsatisfactory. I called the company and conveyed my concern and suggested that a drywall contractor would need to do the work that the painter could not do. I asked then and one other time for the owner to contact me to resolve the issue. It has been several weeks since the damage was done and two weeks since My last call. There has been no bill thus far for the faucet repair. I have had this local company do many jobs and have been generally satisfied. As a continuing customer, I am disappointed with the lack of response.
