Barbee Concrete installed a stamped, colored patio at my home guaranteed rated to 4,000 PSI and 1 year warranty against defect in materials or workmanship. Exceedingly minor changes to the estimated job costing $3,574 were made on-site as we were told they wouldn't really impact the cost. On completion of the work, Mike Barbee invoiced $5,310, a difference of $1,736 (almost 50% above the estimated job) and ignored all attempted communication to discuss the huge difference in price. Multiple phone calls were made directly to Mike's cell and his office and we were promised by his office manager, Barb Barbee, that Mike was aware and would contact us. No communication was ever returned. After several weeks trying to reach him, we finally paid the estimated amount plus 10% and requested in a letter that Mike contact us to discuss the remaining difference. Again, no communication was ever returned. The defects in the work began appearing 9 months later. The surface color (called antiquing) began flaking off and large cracks began forming, which over time, developed into broken chunks and pieces. Mike Barbee still would not return any phone calls regarding the invoice or his warranty of one year workmanship and materials. We finally contacted his foreman Chris Hammerberg who agreed to come out, but later informed us that Mike Barbee refused to allow Chris to inspect the problem on the basis that our account was not paid in full. Chris told us that Mike would only authorize him to come out if we paid the remaining balance ($1,456), which Mike Barbee continued to remain unavailable to discuss why we were charged significantly more than the estimated work plus small changes that weren't supposed to drastically alter the cost. We are willing to pay any additional charges if owed, but they needed to be validated and explained by the contractor. Handing more money to Mike Barbee who ignored our calls and denied our warranty request communicated through an employee was not something we felt comfortable with on the basis that the additional costs should first be justified by Mike and the risk that he would simply take our money and continue to ignore calls and deny his warranty. Barbee Concrete refused to discuss the invoice and the defective work by ignoring all communication. Barbee concrete denied us their promised warranty on materials and workmanship hiding behind an invoice that the owner is unwilling to verify and discuss. Since then, we have had four different concrete companies inspect the issues for possible repair. Not one had ever seen the antiquing flake off stamped concrete work and each was hesitant to guarantee any attempts at restoring the appearance. Regarding the cracking, we were told that the foundation was not properly prepared and compacted prior to pouring. All four companies recommended tearing out the slab and installing a new patio at significant prices due to the cost of first removing the existing weight of a defective 600 sqft slab. We ignored the issues for the last two years as the contractor responsible, Mike Barbee, showed clear disregard to resolve the problems and we were unable to afford another $7,000-$10,000 to hire someone else to correct the problem. This spring we renewed efforts to contact Mike Barbee for a resolution. Two appointments were made for him to inspect the problems; he did not show to either appointment. Calls to his office manager, Barb Barbee, reply that she was working with Mike to resolve the issues, but he remains unwilling to discuss. Mike Barbee of Barbee Concrete Construction continues to ignore voicemails and refuses to discuss the outstanding balance and defective work. This issue was filed with the BBB, which currently rates Barbee Concrete a B- and lists a second complaint of refusing warranty work within the last 12 months. I strongly recommend not to do business with this operator.
Description of Work: Overcharged and refused to honor warranty; no communication returned since job was performed.

We had a very disappointing and negative experience with Barbee Concrete. We had contracted to have a new driveway installed as well as a new front porch. When problems arose our needs were relegated to the back burner. At one point Mr. Mike Barbee's behavior was threatening and outrageous. Although the project should have been completed in early June it stretched into the fall.
Description of Work: We had a concrete driveway installed as well as a new front porch.
