 + -1 moreThis morning, the insurance company again refused to insure the silver, saying that they needed a more detailed description. So I'm in basically the same situation except that I have a ball-park estimate of the value and some knowledge of how silver is appraised. I think the proprietor should have told me that the insurance would require a more detailed appraisal and offered to do this - or referred me to someone who could. I would have been willing to pay for a detailed appraisal. I'm disappointed - and out the time. On the plus side, this is a beautiful shop with fascinating items for sale, with friendly knowledgeable staff; so now I know an excellent place for antiques.
Description of Work: I asked that some silver pieces be looked at for their value - for sale or for insurance purposes. The proprietor was very responsive and educated me about the background and value of the silver. I decided to keep the silver and asked for something for my insurance company - which has not been willing to insure it until they knew its value. The proprietor gave me a receipt for her services that said "Consultation $40. Miscellaneous Silver Items Insurable Value $$$." I will add that I had made an appointment close to the shop's closing time, with the proprietor agreeing to stay late to accommodate me - I left about 30 minutes after the usual closing time

Description of Work: Park Avenue Antiques did some antique appraisal work for me. I had a small item and they didn't charge me anything. I think the cost depends on the complexity of the item.
