Highly Disappointed/Dissatisfied. 8/18/21 had hot water tank replaced by Merrell Plumbing tech. Paid $1536.16 9/5/21 have water dripping down the wall and on to the floor. Discover it’s coming from a hot water pipe and call Merrell back for emergency service to repair. Paid $500.85. 9/8/21 talk with Mark about my concern that the leak was coming from the same pipe that connects to the hot water tank that was replaced a couple of weeks earlier. Coincidental? Maybe/Maybe not. I asked Mark, as a good faith gesture, if an adjustment could be made (i.e. that I pay the regular labor rate vs. the emergency labor rate) as I believe the leaking issue could have been related to when the hot water tank was replaced as the tech would have had contact with that water pipe. Mark’s responses: “There was some corrosion on the pipe so no adjustment will be made” (my attempts to say that perhaps the tech working on the end of the pipe contributed to the leak happening were dismissed). “I made the decision to schedule the emergency call on Sunday and not wait until Tuesday when the office was back open”. That was correct but I had water coming down my wall. “I could have turned the water off”. That was correct but having no water for several days was not a viable option for me and my family.

I had a leaky water meter valve. Communication from the office was very good although the plumber arrived 30 minute later than the time frame provided. That's the only complaint I have. Plumber was pleasant and professional and had all of the parts and tools needed to replace the valve. I would use Merrell again.

With the failure of an $800 part after only 3 years, I might be inclined to call this AO Smith a piece of junk, but I know better. This was probably that rare occasion when something just went wrong. That being the case, I would think Merrell would have stepped up to fix this issue at a reasonable cost. As far as I'm concerned, $505 to replace an $800 part is not reasonable. I am very disappointed and will not use Merrell in the future. And that is my recommendation to you.
Description of Work: In 2013, Merrell replaced my water heater with an expensive top-of-the-line AO Smith costing about $1,300. I was happy with the work. Today, 3 years later, I lost hot water due to failure of an $800 part. The part was covered under warranty, but Merrill charged me $505 labor for their time. The part was not available until the next day, so we went overnight without hot water.

The service was excellent. Someone was out the day after the service request. The repairman followed all instructions and completed the job in a reasonable time frame. The cost of the project was 289$ and involved accessing pipes in a finished basement and reroute get them to another side of the house. Clean up was good. The hourly rate about 20 dollars more than competitors, but well worth it for the service received.

I needed someone to look at my plumbing after a general contractor failed to own up to shoddy work. We were seeing low water pressure in the kitchen and black sediment coming from all fixtures. Gary pulled apart the faucet and found that there was flux caught in the check valve. He removed and cleaned this which helped tremendously. We were also seeing some black flaky sediment that was clogging th aerators throughout the house. Gary explained that this was just 'stuff' in the pipes that had dried out while the house was unoccupied (it was a foreclosure) and now with regular usage that 'stuff' was breaking up. He assured me it would go away but gave me some tips for flushing it out quicker. He also adjusted the regulator for the well pump, which was set too low. Gary was helpful and professional. He offered some advice on how to use our water softener and how to sterilize our plumbing before we move in. I would recommend Gary, and Merrell plumbing to anyone.

ceIt went great from start to finish. It was easy to make an appointment for the estimate. They guy who gave the estimate was great and very knowledgeable. He gave me some great ideas for the walk in shower. It was also easy to set up the appointment. They estimated 1 1/2 to 2 days and that's what it took to get the job done. They two guys who did the actual work John and Matt, I think, were great. They did an awesome job, cleaned up after themselves and were super polite. I did get a cheaper quote from another company, but they didn't want to provide the shower fixture and I was having trouble figuring out what I would need to buy to get what I wanted. Plus, once I would have bought the fixture it wouldn't have been that big of a difference in price. Super happy I went with Merrell as they did a great job.
Description of Work: I'm remodeling a house built in the 70's. It had a super small master bath. I decided to use part of a bedroom to expand the master bath and add a walk in closet. I was also switching from a tub to a 5 x 5 walk in shower. The house is on a slab so they had to jackhammer the floor to move toilet and add drain to new shower. They also piping to new wall where double vanities will be installed. They added a new vent in the attic for those vanities. The walk in shower will have two shower heads and they provided the shower fixture from Moen that works both shower heads on one fixture. They also moved the vanity plumbing for the hall bath over to a different wall and added a shutoff in the attic for the gas fireplace that I'll no longer be using.

Showed up, used my tools I left on the counter top to remove the allen screw I had trouble removing. Took 2 minutes, determined that it was the cartridge that didn't work. The provider left the premises to go get the replacement cartridge from "down town" returned an hour later. Replaced the cartridge and put the lever back on which took another 3 minutes. Turned around and charged me for 1.5 hours of labor and a part which originally would have cost $15 from Amazon. I would not recommend this provider to friends or neighbors.

They took a complicated, antiquated plumbing system and got it up to date. They don't waste time -- they're personable, but get the job done. They did it at a fair price and did a really good job on getting me squared away. They can also get to you on a same day basis if you have an emergency, which is rare.

After three other companies refused to respond to my emergency call for a malfunctioning sump pump, Merrell Plumbing not only took the call at midnight on a Friday night, but responded quickly. Joe was very professional and was willing to go out of his way to work with me in getting in touch with our home warrantee servicer in order for me to get reimbursed for the service call. Joe far exceeded our expectations and would recommend this company to anyone needing emergency plumbing service anytime of the day or night. Because of this company our home did not flood. I cannot thank them enough.

We called Merrell because we heard water running in our pipes, but could not find the source. We thought water was not getting to the water heater due to sediment build up. However, the real issue was a hot water line leaking. The Merrell plumber was very prompt and spent the day working to identify the problem and repair the issue. When the plumber first discovered the source of the leak, he told us it could require having the slab torn up to repair the damage. However, he worked hard to find an alternate solution which saved us thousands of dollars and a great deal of turmoil and inconvenience. The plumber traced the water lines to find which one was leaking, clipped off the leaking pipe, and rerouted the water line to another existing line. We were so happy with how hard the plumber worked to solve our problem, rather than just writing the problem off and requiring more intense (and costly!) plumbing work. We would defintely use Merrell again for any and all plumbing work!

Ben Hood of Merrell Plumbing relocated our sump pump and did a fantastic job of it. The builders put the original sump pump in the worst possible location in our unfinished basement. Ben dug a new well, put in the liner, tied it into the perimeter drain, filled the old well (after linking the two ends of the perimeter drain) and cemented it over. He noticed there wasn't an electrical outlet near the new sump pump location, so he installed a new one free of charge. The job looks ten times better than what the builders put in. We'd definitely call Merrell plumbing again.

The plumbers were all professional, on-time, and worked hard and continuously despite the heat outside. They obtained all the required permits on time, cleaned up their messes inside and out, and ensured that we understood where clean-out lines were located in the yard, how the pumps worked, and exactly what tasks they completed each day. They honored the estimate they provided several months ago. Although Merrell may cost a little more than some of the other local plumbers, they provide top-notch service and guarantee their work. I have used their services for many years at three different homes and have always been satisfied with their expertise. Damage created by faulty plumbing is very expensive, and I trust Merrell Plumbing to complete any plumbing I need on my properties. I highly recommend them!
Description of Work: Hooked us into the new sewer line and filled in the old septic tank; installed pump for laundry and new pipe from laundry to sewer line; trenched and filled in line to sewer; installed a water-powered emergency sump pump; installed new double laundry tub and faucets; replaced drain in bathtub; and seeded and laid straw on lawn.

Not only was their fee high, but they charged us for gasoline (to get to the house), and boots and gloves that they wore to walk around and look at things.
Description of Work: Called them to come out and inspect a cistern system that was part of the house we were buying. We were told that they were experts in this field. We set up an appointment with them to come check it out. They were 20 minutes late coming to the appointment, and when they called for directions again, they asked "why are we coming to your house?" The gentleman that came was friendly, but did little more than just shine a light down into the cistern. They did not test the system, turn on the pump, or do anything. This all lasted about 20 minutes. The gentleman explained that I was to pay him for an hour worth of work, so I decided to have him inspect the plumbing. He quickly walked around the house and said that everything looks ok and then asked for payment. The next day, I had a whole home inspector look at the house, and they found leaks and issues with the plumbing. Surprised that this gentleman from Merrill didn't see these things. Perhaps he was in a hurry to leave with his $$.

I called Merrell Plumbing to replace a leaky compression valve on my water heater that they installed on 05/14/08. I noticed it was leaking when the pilot went out from water dripping on it. John came out and was friendly and professional. He stated that I was out of warranty on the compression fitting. I pointed out that when Merrell Plumbing replaced the water heater that they put the shut off valve above the cold water inlet making it impossible to shut off a leaky water heater. It shut off the entire water in the house. John explained that the valve could have been installed better and he would move the valve. When he was done with the job, he billed me for 2/1/2 hours of work. I asked him why he charged me to move the valve and he said that was company policy. I called Jim to discussed the high bill. Jim said they make note on the original receipt of exactly everything they do on the job site. This must be new since I had my water heater replaced in 08. My original receipt states Replaced 75 gallon gas water heater near furnace. Heater is under warranty. My new receipt is very detailed with the work John completed. My biggest complaint with Merrell Plumbing is that I hired them to install a water heater in 08. I trusted that they would put the shut off valve in the correct place and provide quality workmanship that will last as long as the water heater. I have not heard of compression fittings just going bad and leaking and they put the shut off valve in the wrong place. I am not looking for free products and services, just to be treated fairly and admit when a mistake is made. Jim was defensive and stood his ground. At this point, I can not refer this company to anyone.

Very quick procedure (less than 15 minutes), but I had to pay for a whole hour (1 hour minimum). Next time I will either do it myself or hire a plumber that charges in 15 minute increments. Price was too high I thought. They also forgot my senior discount.
