They are fine. They are good. Right now it's been free since they took off what was on the roof a year before, so they have just been taking care of that ever since. I can't remember what we paid, but I think it was a fair price. I gave them a "B" for quality since we are still having problems. I usually have to reach out to them. They show up on time. The last guy that they sent out, he didn't call before he showed up or didn't even knock on the door and the next thing I know I see a ladder out front of the house and someone was up on the roof. So that was kind of a little weird, but I confronted the guy and he told me who he was and everything. That's the only weird thing.
Description of Work: They redid part of the roof to seal it up.

I went away that morning, and when I came home in the afternoon about 4:00 they were gone. The awnings were beautiful, sturdy, and impeccably installed. I also was happy about the cost, compared to my other bid; I originally had intended to get three bids, but after talking to the estimator at length, I was convinced that I wanted them to do the work. Everything they promised was fulfilled, and I am completely satisfied. In the future I will use them for any and all work that they perform, if their prices stay just as reasonable as they are now. I knew the job would be done right, because the two men that came to my house were God fearing men.
Description of Work: They erected a patio covering at the front of the house, and one over the back patio. The front awning was 6' by 17', and the rear covering was 13' by 20', with 3 inch square posts. Of course the awnings had gutters with down spouts: two for the back patio, and one for the front.

Everything with them was perfect. If anyone needs any kind of construction work around their house and they want it done neatly, they're perfect. They didn't leave anything laying around or anything. I've gotten compliments on my awning from people I didn't even know. They came and did it and he was very nice. The man who did the work was nice. They're very professional. I was very lucky to have them.
Description of Work: They put an awning over my deck and fixed my roof.

Thanks for such a kind review Mrs. [Member Name Removed]! We at Merit have been doing this long enough now that we believe in two things; treating our customers how we would like to be treated and using quality products that we stand behind. It's always nice to hear when the people who trust us with their business appreciate our values as much as our products. Call us for any of your future home improvement needs. Thanks again!

Got a bad referral from a friend. Merit Corp did not disclose it sub contracts all the work. I got the bill $924 from the sub contractor in error. Merit Corp mark up was a whopping 40% or about $608 over their cost. All they did was send a salesman and broker the sale. I paid a thousand up front on 7/2/08 for expedited completion. Dumb me. The salesman said to take off old was two days before install of new. Old was off 7 days. Called third day to find out when coming only to be told they hadn't even ordered the fabric yet. Had problems with the argumentative salesman that said he didn't promise what he did promise. Awning work is inferior and unlike my last awning which lasted over 10 years in all weather, this will last a few a best. Live and Learn. These guys are hustlers. They lie and say they do the actual work, which they don't. Way overcharged and unhappy. Greedy people. Geez.
Description of Work: Take down existing 12" x 14' awning and replace with Sunbrella heavy canvas awning in 4 weeks.

Mrs. [Member Name Removed], We apologize for any confusion we may have caused throughout the duration of our contract. In response to some of your biggest concerns, and slander. We are certainly not hustlers and after reviewing the terms of your contract, Merit's total profit on your job was less than we charge to even stay in business. Hardly greedy. 10/10 is a term we use in the small business industry referring to a 10% price increase for profit and 10% price increase for the overhead of our business costs (showroom, utilities, business services, taxes, etc) In general that is the bare minimum a business can charge customers and still stay in business. Unfortunately companies that work out of their vehicles without a showroom have a much smaller overhead and don't pay taxes and we cannot compete with them, though we have found that the service records for these companies are sub-par at best. That being said, when you are quoting a 40% mark up on our materials, 20% was just to stay in business because we simply cannot offer our services for free. This 20% doesn't include our installers labor, and according to our records, we also had the cost of taking down your existing awning added to your contract price ($300) So when your do the math from our perspective, that is $924 multiplied by 20% immediately equals $1108, plus $300 for labor is $1408. The total contract was for $1532 meaning that Merit made roughly $216 profit total on your job. (And that was before paying our salesman a commission) As a general contractor, Merit often hires many different crews of subcontractors to do work for us, sometimes more than one crew per project, and as often as we can we will hire crews that we have had success with in the past. We have had many of the same subcontractors working with us for over 30 years so when we say that they work for us what we meant to say was exactly that. Our aluminum awning installers have worked with us for 26 years this fall and since our salesman had originally contracted with you for an aluminum patio cover, we absolutely apologize for the confusion that he may have caused about the payroll status of our installation crews. As for the company we used at the time of your project, we have notation in our records indicating that since your fabric color choice was currently on back order with our main manufacturer, we used the only other company in the area that carried it so that we could meet your schedule. As a company with an A+ rating with the BBB, we would like to think better of ourselves than the review that you have left for us and the public to read. We have an impeccable service record in the Dayton area and are very proud of the work we do. In fact in the last five years our repeat customer and referral rate was 77% meaning that a vast majority of our customers valued our time and work completed so much that they hired us again. Clearly that wasn't the case in this particular scenario, and for that we are regretful. For it only takes one bad rating to ruin our reputation with ten future clients and for less profit in this job than an average paycheck at a fast food restaurant, I can assure you that was the farthest thing from our intentions.
