KEN GILLAM PAINTING

We had used him prior and hired him to do another area in our home. We paid him $700 upfront and he never started the job. We contacted him many times but still no answer. We ended up winning a court judgment against him but he claimed he had no money so we were unable to collect. Because he is self employed- garnishment wasn't an option either. Check in Kettering Municipal Courts website under online records in the civil division and you will see our case plus several others.

Ken and his painter Christopher were excellent. This was a big job and they were there every single day including weekends. The job required painting all doors, woodwork baseboards and crown molding, closets, walls and even a two story cathedral room. They patched and prepped each step of the way. The finished product is beautiful.

Excellent! Ken and team provided excellent service for an affordable price! He was very prompt and courteous and completed the project on-time without issue. He cares about his work and it showed as they went above and beyond to ensure that they gave us the best quality paint job. Ken knows his stuff! He provided sound recommendations to help us choose between paint finishes based on the exposure to sunlight and location as well as how certain paints would react in the areas we had painted. It definitely made a difference in how the job turned out and we have received nothing but raving reviews from the work he did. I would definitely hire again and recommend.

Outstanding work done with close attention to detail. These two gentlemen were there every day .. on time. Ken was very helpful as we struggled in making final choices in colors as well. We are definitely planning on using them to paint the exterior of this home this coming Spring.

After choosing Gillam Painting, I met with Ken Gillam to give him my color choices and refine the specs. I then left town for nearly a month. I came back to find the front and one side already power-washed, scraped, repaired, and caulked, and the basic house color on! (I did like my choice, fortunately.) Between the weather and another commitment, it took them another two weeks to do all the rest, but that was fine. Ken kept in touch. I felt they did a really good job. When I had the house painted 10 years ago, it was pretty much just washed, scraped a bit, and painted. Ken's team hit every crack and crevice, replaced any rotted bits, removed leftover hardware, and made it look almost new! They also did some things beyond the call of duty, like fixing up a poorly done patch on the front of the garage. (And coped with aged metal casement windows.) Their cleanup was good, and everything was put away daily. I was impressed. I liked the fact that Ken was on the job himself much of the time, and also had a calm and experienced right-hand man who kept the team (usually three or four) on track if he wasn't there. I was home most of the time; Ken checked in with me every day, sometimes more if there was a choice to be made. (I could tell when he thought I might want to think harder about that choice, and often I decided he just might be right!) Because the company is a small one, Ken asked for 30% up front for materials and payroll while I was gone, another 30% a little past the three-quarters point, and the remaining 40% after full completion. Seemed reasonable to me. I plan to use Gillam Painting again for some interior painting, and I don't hesitate to recommend them to my fellow Angie's List members; And be prepared for some very straight-faced humor into the bargain!

Ken Gilliam is an outstanding professional, with an exceptional attention to detail. My husband and I saw immediately within the first few days of just the prep work, that Ken's attention to detail was making such a huge improvement in the appearance of our home. Ken and his helper were on time everyday, cleaned up after themselves, and made the project go very smoothly. We have hired Ken to do the outside painting on our home starting in May.

I had a week to finish repairs in a little 1885 carriage house converted to a home. Ken did the final painting, found extra prep work and took care of it, worked around other workmen doing repairs and left the place ready for a final cleaning and the tenant to move in. Ken had painted the outside of a house and garage before and done a great job with a very difficult stucco surface to prep and paint. I have found he is careful not to over promise and makes sure things are finished the way they should be. If he says he is busy working on other jobs I know he is giving other customers the same care he gives to me when completing my job.

Estimate was given and all the work was started and finished on schedule. Ken and his helper Jason worked together and jobs were professionally completed. They cleaned up the areas worked. All the painting jobs looked great . I highly recommend Ken Gilliam painting service.

Ken and his other painter did an excellent job at a very fair price. He came to evaluate the job the day after I called and fit me into his schedule very quickly. This is the third time I have used Ken for painting and have been very satisfied every time.

Ken walked through the house with me and we talked in detail about what he would do- pint, caulk, etc. We were thinking about putting the house on the market and he suggested touching up the ceilings, caulking some areas around the crown molding, painting walls, and trim. His estimate was $2375 for the walls, trim, and doors in our eat-in kitchen area, kitchen, laundry room, foyer, upstairs hall, master bedroom and bathroom, and one small bedroom. I got another estimate from someone else which included most of those rooms, plus all the ceilings and the garage. That estimate was slightly less than what I ended up paying Ken. I hired Ken b/c he followed up first, he was nice to my kids, and he could start right away. I negotiated the price with him a bit, and he was adamant that he was giving me a great deal- trying to and quot;help me outand quot;. When someone tells me excessively what a great deal I am getting, I begin to get suspicious. I heard about this throughout the entire job. He started the next day, and right away he said he was having a hard time matching up the ceiling paint b/c it was so old. When I suggested painting them and mentioned the other estimate, he became very indignant- he was trying to save me money and the other guys would probably use cheap paint, etc. We agreed he would try his best to match the paint already on there and we left it at that. After that, things were fine until the end of the job. He had finished painting all the rooms we had agreed on, and he also painted a ceiling and some crown molding he didn't list on the estimate. I guess because of that he felt like it was okay to leave the foyer and upstairs hall half-done. He had put 2 coats of paint on but you could still see the old paint coming through where the roller didn't cover it all. When I showed him he had SEVERAL explanations as to why this happened. None of the explanations held him responsible. He told me the estimate was only for 2 coats of paint and that he had basically worked one day for free, he had to pay his painter, etc. He said he would come back and do another coat the next day if I payed for the paint. He would donate his time because that is the kind of person he was. Nevermind the job he said he would do in the first place dwas not finished!!! In the end I gave him his check b/c I was tired of hearing the incoherent arguments and just wanted him out of the house. Later that night, my husband and I discovered the wooden supports in our bed had split when Ken moved our bed. Our bed was broken. To his credit, he came back the next morning with a gallon of paint to finish the hallway and he went out and bought us new supports for our bed. But he claimed he told me he didn't usually move the furniture and that he had explained that to me in the beginning. This conversation never took place. Overall, the painting itself was decent, with the exception of the hall not being done and my having to tell him that. I have no idea if I got a and quot;good dealand quot; or not, but I do not like being told that services are being and quot;donatedand quot; when it is costing me $2000. I will not be hiring him again. Also...Ken smokes and so does his hired help. My house smelled strongly of cigarettes along with the paint. And he took a break and smoked in front of my kids.

My husband should really do this review but he doesn't have time. I will assume that he was pleased with all of it as he had no complaints. His only statement was...and quot;we'll see how it holds up.and quot;

I bought a new townhouse and had two painters come in and give me an estimate on painting the whole interior. Both painters came recommended and had similar costs. Ken explained pretty much everything to me while we walked through the house and he wrote up the estimate. He involved me in the process and that made me feel comfortable, especially as a 26 year old single female who knows nothing about this kind of stuff. I was also going to be out of the country during the time of the painting and was looking for someone I could trust. Ken was reliable, trustworthy, and the work he did was GREAT! I couldn't decide on a color for my kitchen and he said it would not be a problem to come back at a later date to paint it. He worked with me on what I needed and did an excellent job. The only mishap was the colors I gave him for the specific rooms were lost. I was out of the country but had given my dad the colors before I left just in case. I guess once Ken gave the colors to Sherwin Williams they lost the paperwork. I am very organized and always plan for things like this so it was a non-issue for me. The work was excellent and more than made up for that slight mishap.

He was able to fit me into his schedule and nobody could do a better job than what he did. He showed up and hand washed the entire house. He went over and above. He was great. I would definitely use him in the future.

Everything was great, except they broke one window. Other than that, they did a wonderful job. He really did a good job and it was a reasonbale cost. He deducted $100.00 for the window, which was acceptable to me.

Very, very pleased. Spoke to several companies before Ken, but didn't feel like they were quite what I was looking for. When I called a neighbor who had the same type of work done, she gave him a glowing reference. Ken and his crew were punctual, pleasant and got the job done right. Ken is very attentive to detail and made sure that everything was done correctly. My next door neighbor also used him (he's becoming quite popular in our neighborhood) and she is equally pleased with the work. My house looks wonderful! Thanks Ken!
