+ -1 moreEverything went perfectly, we were able to easily schedule the installation with Donna. They came out on a Sunday and the installation was quick and painless. All in all it was 5 hours at most from arrival to completion. The results are everything we hoped, the bathroom and hallway are both significantly brighter.
Description of Work: We had two solatubes installed. One in a guest bathroom with no outside lighting, the other in an upstairs hallway that was also quite dark.

Description of Work: I had 3 14" light tubes 12 feet long installed. It went extremely well. | |First Day Natural Light specializes in vertical skylights - aka light tubes aka solar tubes (actually a brand name). They are both a distributor (you can "do-it-yourself") and an installer. | |Let me speak to the effectiveness of vertical skylights, based on our experience. They really, really do add a great deal of light, even on cloudy days. It's natural light, filtered to prevent damage to furnishings. Having all this light in my formerly dark living room and kitchen lifts my mood every day. I like my house a lot better now. | |About First Day - I believe it is a 2 person company - husband and wife - who have been in this business for 10 years. The company is in Dayton, but the owner, Kevin, comes to Cincinnati often. He came to our house and gave us an estimate. I was impressed with his knowledge and skills. For one thing he found his way around in the complex space under our roof with no problems. He was originally a finish carpenter, the kind of person who is careful and into quality. | |When his contract was 1/3 less than the other estimate we had, I had no doubts about going with First Day. They (Kevin and his wife) lived up to my every expectation. | |The installation was scheduled for about 10 days later. Kevin arrived on time, put down tarps, worked all day, created very little dust and debris. By the time he left, around 6PM I had 3 light tubes that work very, very well.

Description of Work: First Day Natural lighting installed 2 solatubes in our living room. This room was quite dark and we wanted to bring more natural light into the area. Kevin came down to see the room and gave us an estimate. We decided to have him install 2 tubes and the difference is 'night and day'!! So glad we had the work done. He said he would be here at 9:00 and was actually a little early, which was fine with us. Would highly recommend this product and company.

Keith discussed with me the best location to install the solartube for maximum benefit and what I could expect. He returned the next week to do the installation. He was very careful to protect my floors and furniture and to clean up when the job was complete. I'm very happy with the entire experience and would highly recommend this company.

+ -1 moreThe man who came out and gave the estimate was on time and very professional. As it turns out, we couldn't put the Solatube exactly where we wanted it, so we asked for an estimate to have it placed in another part of the house. I thought the estimate was very reasonable. We did not actually end up buying a Solatube because it wasn't a priority to put one in that secondary spot. So we will wait to do it in the future. However, I would have no qualms about hiring them to come out to install it. The woman on the phone was also very nice. I would recommend this company.

It is a pleasure to work with true professionals like Kevin and Donna at First Day Natural Lighting. They are the factory-approved and recommended installers for the Solatube skylights...a great product. I highly recommend them. They get the highest marks for integrity, professionalism, quality. and responsibility.
Description of Work: Corrected a poor/faulty/improper installation job done by another outfit (Leitner Electric Co./Blue Chip Solar and Wind...I do NOT recommend this outfit for ANYTHING) which was done 3 years ago. Kevin Yount of First Day Natural Lighting spent 3 full days working in a hot attic area while he completely uninstalled, disassembled, re-assembled, and re-installed the 2 Solatube systems. They billed the original installer (Leitner) for their $1000 labor costs and billed me $261.02 for 3 roundtrips from the Dayton area and for 2 replacement Solatube lenses that Leitner damaged in his original installation. Kevin does beautiful work!

+ -1 moreKevin was on time and finished the job in one day. He was helpful in advising us on where to put the tubes and it seems to have worked out just fine. Also it's true, my wife and I both have went to turn off the light when leaving one of the rooms. It's really great having the natural light coming into these rooms. Before the solatubes we had to turn on lights to do almost any task in the kitchen or laundry room. Now you can cook, do the laundry, and take a shower with out any lights on during the day. It's great!
Description of Work: Kevin installed a 14 inch tube in our kitchen, a 14 inch in our laundry room and a 10 inch in our master bath.

Description of Work: One large Solatube 290 DS with Light Kit was installed in our kitchen ceiling. The tube for the skylight was installed up through the attic and into the roof. We've had other solar tube lights installed in the past and they have worked out very well, and this one seems to be great too. I love how it gives daylight to a dark part of the room and also includes a regular light for night time. Also, this will qualify for a 10% tax energy credit for 2011.

He answered all questions about the system and gave us a variety of options and prices to choose from concerning the windows. He was prompt, and worked efficiently and cleaned up very well.We also qualified for the energy credit for the solar installation. The dark rooms are now awash with light and it is beyond what I thought could be.The work went faster and was less a mess than also expected. We spent much less than installing full skylights but the effect is excellent. .

+ -1 moreThe entire transaction and installation went smoothly and quickly. The representative and installer were friendly and intelligent. If we ever want more Solatubes installed, we hope that we can obtain them fro the same source.
Description of Work: At our request, the local representative provided a very good description of the product and its features and gave us a price for three Solatubes installed. We ordered 2 -10" Solatubes for 2 bathrooms and a 14" Solatube for a foyer in a single story ranch house. We received a multi-tube installation discount for our order and information about a federal tax credit available for 2009-2010 installations. Installation was planned to follow the installation of a new roof. The roof was completed on Wednesday, and the Solatubes were installed the following Monday afternoon. The .product is designed for a quick, minimum mess installation. The installer knew the product characteristics very well and helped advise the exact location for the tubes. Cleanup after installation was quick and complete.

+ 0 moreKevin did a wonderful job, installing the SOLATUBES. He was very careful in how he cut the openings in the roof and ceilings. The product he uses is well built to perform and not leak; his installation technique is correct. The SOLATUBES reflect natural daylight down into the house. They transformed my rooms from dimly lit to pleasantly bright. Even on cloudy days they bring in a good amount of soft natural light. Also they are energy star rated and do not cause energy gain or loss. Kevin and his wife are great people and offer a terrific solution for adding light to dark areas of the house.
Description of Work: Installed solar tubing (a total of 5 solar tubes). The brand installed was SOLATUBE.
