Not well. Keven is arrogant and a master of FUD (fear, uncertainty and doubt). The quick fix he did worked for a year or so, then when I took it back for a real fix I got the normal transmission shop double talk. He would not quote a price but "ball parked it" in the $2500 range for a rebuild. That is normal, but not very effective in my experience in that it is usually poorly done and fails again in 12-18 months. This is based on 5 experiences. I located a used transmission with a three year warranty on line and asked Kevin for a price to install it. After flipping around in a pricing guide for a while, he gave up and said "about $1000". I've done this type of replacement in my younger days and know what it takes and questioned him on it. He became defensive and said well it would be "at least 10 hours at $85/hour". That is outrageous. This isn't brain surgery and this is the kind of task the "new kid" in the shop is given to gain experience. Then the kiss of death in our conversatation came when Kevin proudly stated that he is BBB accredited. I know a little about that process and about the people who run the local franchise and anyone who can google and read will rapidly find out that it is an anti-credential, something many business buy (it is just a commodity for sale) just to bilk the public. Though Dayton isn't the worst franchise, you just have to look at some of the press they have gotten related to local auto dealers to realize this for your self. Kevin argued that this not true, as he gets a lot of business his BBB listing. I said that is exactly my point and he immediately stopped talking, realizing he just make my case. Anyway, I did get another shop (who by the way is not a BBB subscriber and reported separately) to do the work for a $400 fixed price thanks to Angie's list.
Description of Work: Quick fix to prevent transmission from "falling out" then a quote for a rebuild/replacement.
