Description of Work: Electrical and physical installation went quite well and was a good job. However, the installed unit did not function properly, and I had to deal with the equipment vendor on my own, AND pay their service charge.

I repeatedly asked CFIA to provide me weekly with a few photos of the completed work - as clearly stipulated in the contract. After much pleading finally on Dec. 28 - one month later - they sent me pictures (plus same photos on CD via reg mail) of what I hope looked like the completed back porch, some electrical work in the laundry room/basement and some small improvements they made to the first completed apartment (fixed surround in bathroom, added some doorknobs on doors). After that first set of photos, after again much pleading, in early January Don Claggett sent me thirty-one digital pictures, mostly of walls and ceiling cracks - almost all uncompleted work. In that email Don Claggett asked for more money. Apt was completely unfinished. Painting, carpeting and fixtures were NOT done - the main reasons I hired them. This was almost two months after they began and way past the extended deadline. All they kept doing was ask for money. I communicated with John Claggett and politely stated I wanted pictures of COMPLETED work not uncompleted unpainted walls/ceilings and he said that Don Claggett would send them. I never got them. On the morning on January 7, I received an emergency phone call from John Claggett informing me there was a "break-in" at the house - that burglars had broken into the basement and stolen copper piping, caused plumbing problems and damaged the water heater. He said that he had to fix the damage and replace the water heater. The very next day I was emailed a bill (copy attached) for approximately $1,000 for the damage, as this was damage outside the provisions of the contract. Again no photos of the heater, piping, etc. or evidence sent of work completed, no receipts etc. At this point, I became dubious. Up to that point I had paid CFIA $6,435.28. They kept pressing me for more money but continued to supply no photographs and did not return calls very much. Therefore on January 17, I communicated to them that without further photos showing me work completed, I could not supply payment. It was at this point that they ceased communications completely. I never heard from them again. That was over five weeks ago. I have called repeatedly but get no response. Throughout this whole ordeal, my property manager for the other rental kept insisting that the Claggetts were "honest but bad at returning calls". They are of course in flagrant violation of their contract. Am very stressed. Hired these people because of their great Angie's and A- BBB rating plus their longstanding existence. Am flabbergasted at this turn of events considering this company's STELLAR Angie's rating. My property is now unoccupied and exposed thanks to Claggett's Fix It All.
Description of Work: Very disappointed with Claggett's Fix It All. Claggett's Fix It All apparently has abandoned my rehab project after I paid them over 6K of the agreed upon 12K contract total amount. My property manager has reported to me they have only completed 10% to 20% of work contracted thusfar. I hired them to complete a project which my first contractor, who originally sold me the duplex, left. Attached are contract/invoices. I am a long-distance REI. It took my first contractor six months to rehab only one apartment of the duplex. She then abandoned the project without completing the second apartment. She has since pulled down her website from the internet and seemingly has left Dayton. When I was recommended by my best friend's daughter to try Angie's List I thought it would be a helpful tool to finding a good contractor in Dayton. I checked Angie's List. Because of their Angie's top "A" score in October/November, I hired Claggett to complete the duplex, confident that they were honest. I checked further and they also had an "A -" Better Business Bureau rating and had been in business for over five years. With Claggett's Fix It All - from the start - their worst fault was COMMUNICATION. It was and is terrible and initially they always had an excuse for not calling. For the last five weeks Claggett Fix It All has not communicated at all with me on this open project and has not responded to my phone calls. I am desperate. My property manager did manage to reach Don Claggett this week - only once, thereafter he also could not contact him. He said Don Claggett stated he is now "...out of the business" and that "...his brother is handling the job". Here is the timetable on what has transpired so far: On 11-21-08 I signed attached contract with Claggett's Fix It All. They committed to be completed by Jan. 7. I paid a 4K deposit upfront. First day on the job they called me and stated that the power was not on and we worked together with Dayton Power & Light to get that corrected. Right away they stated the project would be late because of this. I understood and was agreeable.

Response from Claggett's Fix It All LLC
Claggett's Fix It All, LLC after many attempts with client was unable to complete any type of resolution. What is clearly not stated in full detail are the additional expenses that occurred before we could actually start work. Also, Claggett's Fix It All, LLC went out of it's way to ensure the power and gas was turned on at property. We not only paid out the monies given the large outstanding balance for utilities but to try and keep things moving, Claggett's Fix It All, LLC put the utilities in our company name. As this was talked over with client in much detail and they agreed that this was the only way to keep the work moving forward. Further more, by clients own statement, the property was originally worked on by another contractor and yes according to client "walked-off". And as to matter with break-in and water heater and plumbing issue, clients own property manager confirmed all damage and told Claggett's Fix It All, LLC to make repairs and that property manager would contact client and inform client of situation. Further, as to photos and such, client was given this information. Client was informed that due to volume in which they wanted pictures, they would have to be mailed. Also, client was told that Claggett's Fix It All, LLC was having issues of downloading photos and that there would be a delay. Once again, even based on clients own statement of having previous contractor "walk-off", client was told that work that was done was done incorrectly and that we would need to fix it first before we could even begin to work on "The Contract". Again, client understood and with the assist of property manager confirming findings of previous work being incorrect needed to be corrected. Claggett's Fix It All, LLC did not take or keep any monies from this project, in fact all funds were long spent before job really got off the ground. Further more, client was sent pictures of all materials bought and showing materials stored at project site and material stayed on site. Claggett's Fix It All, LLC has never had an issue of this scale before nor ever occur since. Our previous reviews speak of our company. We have made many changes in the past two years. Our communication has improved 100%. Phones are answered and all calls are returned and all information is now data stored. Claggett's Fix It All, LLC is truly sorry that we could not resolve this matter. We tried to make client understand and yet client refused to adjust anything on their end even after accepting the facts from both parties. When compliant originally came to Claggett's Fix It All, LLC attention, we followed up immediately with both client and Angieslist.com. After much time trying to resolve, which we thought was resolved, Claggett's Fix It All, LLC on October 24, 2011 discovered that Angieslist was still showing as unresolved. Claggett's Fix It All, LLC immediately called Angieslist and responded once again.

Don provides very detailed and timely estimates for the work to be performed. Through discussions we made some changes to the jobs along the way. I wanted all LED lighting in my basement and had specific ideas on how I wanted it done. Don and John did a good job accommodating my requests and Don stuck with his price even though I think it was much tougher than he originally envisioned. I essentially ask the Claggett's to do a number of jobs as described above and they completed each with quality products and professionalism. While they were not all completed on the original schedules, there were circumstances that prevented this including requirements that I had for which there was no real basis to know how long it would take and also the way the previous bathroom fixtures were installed that required extra work. Don was always in communication and they worked extra hours to try to accommodate schedule as much as possible. Overall, I was very satisfied with their work and would recommend them to others and call them again for work at my house.
Description of Work: Installed hot/cold shower outside, completely gutted and reinstalled basement bathroom, replaced carpet in basement (subcontracted), replaced ceiling tiles and lighting in basement, installed pocket doors.

At the suggestion of Mr. Claggett the attic insulation process was done from the garage. Even though this meant cutting a hole in the upper garage wall, it was a very good suggestion, since the process of adding the insulation is quite messy. The mess in the garage was somewhat contained because of prep with plastic sheeting and removal of most items sitting out on the garage floor. The clean-up of the garage was very thorough. The entire job was done in the time frame promised and I am very satisfied with the manner in which Mr. Claggett and his crew did the work.
Description of Work: Some barriers were put in my attic to improve conditions for a more weather-tight house. Duct-work in my basement was sealed where needed and some holes in the garage were sealed up as well as a seal gasket installed around the entrance hatch. Twelve inches of insulation was added to the attic. This was accomplished through a hole cut in the garage wall. The hole was then closed up again and R-38 insulation was installed across the entire upper garage wall next to the house.

Originally, they had estimated $950 to put a thin (1/4") layer of drywall over the existing. They rearranged their job schedule to accommodate our pressing needs, and started within the week. However, after setting up for that job, and finding the studs too far apart to make it look good (it would have buckled), they were willing to remove the old walls and put in all new 1/2" drywall for about $1300. They found numerous electrical shorts in the walls, and were very willing to deal with what they could at no cost, more importantly they were willing to show me what to do myself to fix some of these issues. The quality of the drywall job is excellent. Very satisfied with these guys.
Description of Work: Removed drywall from living room, installed new drywall. Dealt with several electrical surprises in the walls.

IN RESPONSE TO THE MEMBERS POSTING, MY COMPANY HAD SET AN APPOINTMENT DATE OF FEBRUARY 25 AT 12:00. THE MORNING OF THE 25TH AT 9:30, THE MEMBER LEFT A VOICEMAIL STATING THAT A SCHEDULE CONFLICT HAD HAPPENED AND THAT THE APPOINTMENT WOULD NOT BE KEPT. AT 12:30 THAT SAME DAY, MEMBER CALLS AND ASKED WHY NO ONE WAS PRESENT AT HOUSE TO LOOK AT JOB. WE DISCUSSED THE VOICEMAIL AND MEMBER STATED THAT SINCE CALL WAS NOT RETURNED HE SHOWED AT HOUSE ANY WAY. BOTH PARTIES AT THAT TIME AGREED THE COMMUNICATION WAS NOT CLEAR AND TO RE-SCHEDULE APPOINTMENT. MEMBER ASKED FOR EVENING APPOINTMENT AS NOT TO MISS WORK. WE AGREED THAT WE WOULD MEET FEBRUARY 27 AT 5PM. CONTRACTOR DID ARRIVE AT MEMBERS HOUSE AT 4:50PM ON FEBRUARY 27 AND WAITED UNTIL 5:30PM. MEMBER NEVER SHOWED TO KEEP APPOINTMENT. TWO VOICEMAILS WERE LEFT WITH MEMBER THAT NIGHT. CLAGGETT'S FIX IT ALL HAS HEARD NO COMMUNICATION FROM THIS MEMBER SINCE LEAVING MESSAGES. WE VALUE ANGIE'S LIST CUSTOMERS AND THEIR FEEDBACK. PLEASE ALLOW OUR COMPANIES OVER ALL GRADE TO SHOW THAT WE DO VALUE AND HONOR OUR CLIENTS. THANK YOU - DON CLAGGETT, OWNER

We ended up using a different company--one who only does windows because he came very highly recommended by a co-worker. Otherwise we would have used the Claggetts.
Description of Work: Mr Claggett came out to give an estimate for moving some pipes in my kitchen soffit and enlarge and install a kitchen window. Don was very professional, prompt, and took very much time with me. He was very knowledgeable about the plumbing issues we discussed, even cautioning me about a possible hazard and how to avoid it since my husband and I plan to hang our own cabinets. He gave a good quote for enlarging the window opening over my kitchen sink ($700 less than another bid). In the process of looking at the pipes he saw an outdoor leak and told us how to easily correct it.

We had a 9:00 appointment. They called at 8:55 to say they would be 1/2 hour late. They arrived at 9:20. Don asked a lot of questions and went to work. This was a backup of a long distance. They determined what it was, explained their intentions thoroughly and completed the work by noon. They were open about what needed to be done, explained every step and did it right. They also pointed out some mold problems which we had suspected, and told us how they could fix that, as well as a faucet leak problem. We were extremely pleased at the work and the reasonable cost.
Description of Work: They (2 men) determined the cause of our kitchen sink drain backup, chased the clog with a snake for 65 feet, all the way to the street, completely clearing that line.

Don and John arrived promptly for an estimate and even returned to explain further when I had additional questions. They happily supplied examples of the materials they would use. Work started early in the day as promised and they continued until the job was complete. They left my garage clean and hauled away their trash. Don and John Claggett are very professional and seem to have excellent work ethics.
Description of Work: blown in insulation of attic. Install baffles and wall dams. Installing dryer duct and repairing range hood duct to vent outside. Install additional eave vents.
Not well. They arrived before I was ready (by 20 minutes) and proceeded to take about 20 minutes just looking at the garage door opener and trying to convince me of how unusual and difficult it would be. There's already an opener there. All I needed was that one down and the new one up. They then hemmed and hawed about removing the water softener and seemed surprised that I already knew how it needed to be done. I felt like they were making mountains out of molehills just so they could boost their rates. Same thing with painting trim work. They were here on Sunday and I asked for a bid by Wednesday morning. They never submitted a bid for any of the projects including the painting. My ex and I used to own our own construction business and I think they didn't like the fact that I knew about construction, etc. I suspect they had hoped for a naive old woman who would be willing to pay anything.
Description of Work: I had several projects of varying sizes that I needed to get a bid on. They assured me on the phone that they could do it all. Painting the entire condo, installing a garage door opener, putting up bookshelves, removing an old water softener, etc.

I choose Claggetts after viewing their history on Angie's List. Don Claggett arrived close to the time scheduled. He had difficulty finding my home. Thought he should have used a map to locate my home, so that finding it would not be a problem. He worked quickly and used a tarp on the floor. He did a nice job on the ceilings he painted and cleaned up when he left. I was pleased with his work and his manner.

Overall, the Claggett team did a superb job. I am an investor living in Columbus, Ohio, but own properties in the Dayton area. I found myself in a very bad situation where I had the city turn on water service after a tenant abandoned a property. When the service got turned on, water poured out from the broken pipe where the previous tenant removed the washer and also the attached hardware. I already called Mr. Clagget to change out locks in another property and found myself having to ask him to divert our original appointment for him instead to go to this property to assess the water problem. He didn't have his equipment with him to work on the plumbing since he was originally called to change out locks, however, the main valve had been closed off, we went to the other property where he successfully change locks on three doors and helped me secure that property as well. He then went back to the other property later that evening with necessary tools and hardware to repair.
Description of Work: Mr. Claggett was originally called upon to change out deadbolt locks in one of my rental properties. He did that and ended up going to another one of my properties to fix an emergency plumbing problem where he had to re-plumb the wet wall in the laundry area and install sillcocks to stop the overflow of water which was spewing out of a rusted and broken pipe.

I called for an estimate. They came out the very next day. I showed them the water damage and they immediately wanted to go up in the attic and see if they could find the original source of the water leak. I was very pleased with the fact that they didn't just want to patch my drywall and run. They wanted to go a step further and fix the leak also. I could not find the leak when I looked but Don found it immediately and all I needed was a little sealant around the dryer vent. They gave me a fair written estimate that I agreed to, they came out when promised, and on time, also. Don's brother did the work at my home and I thought he did an excellent job.
Description of Work: They repaired a little water damage on the ceiling of my utility room.
Honest, hardworking and great work. I would recommend Don for any work. If he can't do it himself, or thinks you will have better service through someone else, he tells you. The work he did was awesome. He even worked with my tenants when needed to put things in order. He worked better with them than my management company. I don't want to recommend him, just so that I can keep him for myself, but he deserves to get all the work he can. You won't find better.
