I requested a service call when I found an oily sludge in the drain trap. It turned out to be a normal consequence of a freon leak we experience over a year prior. Since the problem was related to previous work they had done, there was no charge. Jim Bodine and his team have gone out of there way to ensure the technical problems we encountered during installation have been completely rectified. I highly recommend this company.

I would highly recommend CJS Heating and Air to anyone. We were given 3 options for a new heating and air system and it was explained in detail to us the difference between them. We appreciated the time spent on this. They even clued us in on the available tax breaks and rebates at the time. We decided on the system that suited our situation best and set up an appointment for the install. When the technicians came, they were professional and courteous. They were ever conscious of keeping things clean in and around our home and wore shoe covers when they came inside. They were very tolerant of our puppy that wanted to play. We give them kuddos for that! It has been a year since the install and the system has been working great.

When we bought our house 4 years ago, we noted that the previous owners had been using CJS Heating and Air Conditioning to maintain the HVAC system. (I believe they had actually installed the original system.) It made sense to us at the time to continue using CJS, so we purchased a service agreement through them. About 3 ½ years ago the heating system went out in the middle of winter, while I was deployed to Afghanistan. So my wife called CJS as the house was cold, and the whole family was sick. CJS replaced a blower motor in the fan to bring the system back online. For the next three years, CJS continued to service the system per our maintenance agreement at least twice a year. On each visit, we informed the CJS technician that we were paying extremely high heating bills (relative to all our neighbors with similiar sized houses), and that the house always seemed cold and uncomfortable in the winter. We asked them to look into it and see if they could determine a reason for this. The standard answer was that the system was getting old, it is a big house, the weather was extremely cold, etc., etc. After our service agreement with CJS expired, we contacted a rival Heating and A/C company to come out and give us a second opinion. Within about ten minutes, the new technician noticed what the problem was: When CJS replaced the blower motor three and a half years ago, they had installed a 115 volt unit, in a 220 volt system. It had been operating that way ever since (3+ years) with numerous CJS service technicians servincing the system in that time, none of them noticing the problem, despite our insistance that something was not right. I'm pretty disappointed with CJS. I brought it to their attention and they did acknowledge their mistake, they replaced the part with what they should have put in the first place, and informed me that this situation had been used to train all maintenance personnel about similiar situations in the future. However, we were paying uncecessarily high heating bills for approximately three years due to their neglegance. (This has been confirmed by comparing heating bills prior to and post corrective action) and there was no effort made by CJS to make this situation right. Due to this, and the fact that I have lost confidence in CJS, I would not recommend using them in the future. (Updated 19 Jan 2012 to correct inaccuracies in original transcript of telephone interview with Craigslist)

We have a very large (3800 sq. ft.) old home with an old furnace. CJS removed the old furnace, installed the geothermal unit, subcontracted a drilling company to drill and install the vertical loops for the system, and also hooked up our old water heater as a holding tank. Thus, we use the geothermal system for heating, cooling, AND hot water. During the entire process the guys were professional, courteous, and kept us informed about all the steps that were being taken. We were thoroughly impressed and pleased.

CJS had an excellent price on high efficiency equipment. However, 4 separate workmanship issues plagued installation. First, the original installer melted a valve causing the system to dump its refrigerant. The workman was unaware of the mistake, and I did not recognize that the system was running on supplmental electric heat for several days. Second, the air purifier stopped working shortly after the installation. Faulty troubleshooting led to ordering an incorrect partsand no attempt was made to expedite the replacement part. Third, several months later when the A/C ran for the first prolonged period condensation leaked out of the unit as a result of a broken drip tray. Again the wrong part was ordered and a prolonged delay resulted. Fourth, the repalcement drip tray broke as a result of improper initial installation putting torque on the plastic part. I complained to the owner, Jim, concerning the repeated workwanship issues. He promised to compensate me for the inconvenience, suggesting a service plan or replacment media for the air filter and/or humidifier. He failed to follow through on this offer.

As usual. No repair, but will still have the usual requirement to pay trip and diagnostic fees of $150. Despite the additional fees, we still have the same problem with our heater. The only consolation this last time, is that when I negotiated to not pay the trip fee after the tech said he didn't know what to do, I was not required to pay at that time. However, they sent another tech/salesman out when I was unavailable, and eventually I will have to pay that fee whether they fix anything or not because that is their company policy.
Description of Work: I have called this company more than once about the same problem (that the breaker switch on the unit trips off at any time, thereby shutting down all the heating in the home). Both times that a technician came to the house, we were expected to pay for a diagnostic fee and a trip fee totaling $150 whether or not anything was ever fixed. Both times that he came, he claimed that the unit was ok. The unit failed to provide heat many times during the winter months, and the breaker switch had to be constantly reset in order to get the heat back on. The last time the CJS tech came, he did what he always does - basically nothing, except to stare at the machine for a few minutes and then tell me that he thinks we should spend another $11,000 on a whole new system! I am beginning to wonder if the CJS techs know how to repair their heating and cooling systems...We are looking for another company that has competent technicians. We don't see any point in spending that kind of money if they can't fix it later on.

The technician was very polite. Asked for a detailed description of what the system was doing, and then went to check on the furnace. He said that it sounded as if the heating pack was not working properly and to cross my fingers as if it was broken, the repair would probably be around $500, possibly more. After checking it out for several minutes, he discovered that a wire had come loose, and repaired it for $69 plus the $79 trip charge just for coming to the house. I have never used this company before, but was surprised to find that they could have someone come to the house within a few hours. I called a little after 8 AM, and they said they could have someone there between 11 AM and 1 PM. The company called back to say a technician would be there in about 45 minutes, which ended up being 11:30 AM when he arrived. Though he did try to sell me an extended maintenance program that would cover 2 visits for repairs and maintenance during the year, seemed very competent.
Description of Work: Emergency furnace that is backup for our heat pump was not heating the house as it should. The technician checked the furnace and found that a wire had come loose from the heating pack. If the coil had to be replaced it would have been over $500, but he found that the wire had come loose instead. The entire system, inside and out, had been replaced in June of 2002.
