They were okay. I have used them three times. They got this plan and they try to up sell you. But I did not go along with that. I just rather have an Angie?s List discount. Other than that, they were pretty good and pretty thorough. I was impressed by his punctuality. Their service technicians are pretty young and energetic. They came out pretty fast after I purchased the big deal. There was an additional charge besides the $74 big deal because they found some issues with the furnace and I think I had a capacitor changed. They have a certification when they charge you which is probably fair in the long run. I just don?t like this pre-arranged stuff. They came out pretty much right away after I purchased the big deal. He explained and told me what was wrong with the furnace. The only thing I don?t like is their pricing.

My Carrier heating and air conditioning system was installed in August 2013 by Butler Heating and Air. Recently, the furnace developed problems ? it often stopped before reaching the set temperature. I ordered a $79 service call from Butler for diagnosis. The technician from Butler came, checked, and reset the system. He said the only problem was my filter ? it was dirty and had too much air resistance (I changed my filter 3 weeks ago), and wanted to charge me $250. I ended up paying $160 but the problem came back two days later. This time, I carefully searched the Angie?s list and noticed high customer satisfaction of CJS Heating and Air. It just happed that CJS was offering a $49 diagnostic service call for members of Angie?s list. I ordered the service and the technician, Chris, came to my home on Saturday morning. Immediately I noticed the difference between Chris and the technician from Butler. Chris clearly explained to me that for the $49 that I already paid, he would do a thorough diagnosis, review the findings with me and propose needed repair. He even invited me to go over the diagnosis with him and would answer any questions that I might have. I indeed asked a lot of questions, and he is certainly very knowledgeable and patient. He spent almost 2 hours, checked pressure drops between multiple points and finally decided that the problem was with the duct system ? it does not provide enough space for air return. He was surprised that the initial installer, Butler Heating and Air, did not pay attention to the duct problem. He recommended me to call the office and have another technician to come to do an analysis on the duct system and provide the final solution. I certainly will do and trust CJS to finally solve the problem.

Started hearing squealing and loud humming noises coming from our furnace. Called CJS and they came out same day and diagnosed the problem (direct drive blower motor was failing). John took everything apart and thoroughly inspected the entire thing to make sure there were no other issues before singling out the blower motor. John came back this morning with the parts needed to fix it, all the while patiently answering all my questions as I hovered over him. Furnace is working like a champ now. Nobody wants to deal with HVAC issues but John and CJS made the ordeal less painful. Straight-forward pricing, punctual response, cleaned up afterward. I will definitely keep CJS on my short list for any future HVAC issues.

When I came home late on New Year's Eve, my house was 58 degrees and the furnace was not responding. When I woke up on New Year's Day it was 50 degrees. I called them, knowing a Holiday repair bill would not be cheap. They were here in a little over an hour and charged me no more than their normal price! Hooray! The young man who came was very professional and respectful and fully explained their services. He checked the furnace, found the problem was a pressure switch which was an intermittent problem. He showed me how to override it but recommended a replacement, which I fully agreed with. He will order the switch tomorrow when supply houses open back up and they will call me to make an appointment for a permanent fix. I will definitely use them again! This experience made for a warm, awesome start to 2015 for me!

In addition to the smooth installation process, it was their handling of the major repair issue mentioned earlier, that I really want to emphasize in this review. Our contract with them was to replace one heater and two cooling units. The second heater we have was in good condition and did not have to be replaced. Attached to that heater was a humidifier, the cause of our major problem. All was well until the cooler weather arrived making the heater and humidifier kick in. Most likely when the cooling unit was installed, the humidifier drain pipe was disturbed. When our humidifier kicked in, water from it leaked onto and into our heater. This caused irreparable damage to the heater's circuit board and transformer. Replacement would cost over $1000. After taking photos, team at CJS met the next working day to discuss the situation and how to correct it. That day, Jim Bodine, owner, called me back to indicate that although it was difficult to honestly determine if the problem was a result of their installation, they would repair all damage at no cost to me. The problem was corrected by the next day... My impression was WOW. How's that for a company who walks the walk to standing behind its product !! Many kudos to CJS and all of its team. My advice for anyone needing HVAC `service is to contact CJS. Most likely you won't be disappointed.
Description of Work: Installed one new furnace and two central air cooling units, provided quick and efficient service with some minor tweaks after the installation, and repaired a major problem, which may or may not have been totally their responsibility. The installation process from quotation through completion was handled in a most professional and efficient way. The experience was totally stress free. Great workmanship, service, attention to detail, and follow up seems to be the standard at CJS.

I have had CJS out to my house twice. The initial time was using an Angie's list promotion to get a diagnostic for less than $50.00. The second time was a cleaning to solve the problem found during the diagnostic service. The two gentleman who came out were extremely courteous, clean, professional, honest, and helpful. The prices were great compared to other companies I had called. Their responsiveness was insanely great -- same-day diagnostic and then a next-day cleaning. They both provided a ton of information on the furnace, checked everything from top to bottom, and even wore floor-protectors despite my under-construction concrete floor. I never felt pushed into buying anything I didn't need. They presented options to me. They did not hide any additional costs in fine print or tax. They were determined to make sure I was a satisfied customer and was happy before walking out the door.

Back in May (2014), our a/c and furnace needed to be replaced. This was a big decision for my wife and I as we had the money to put "band aids" on both but we felt based on what the tech told us we should get them replaced. We didn't have the money to get them replaced so had to take out a loan which I hated doing as we are trying to get out debt. I gave CJS a great review on Angie's List back then explaining the experience in more detail. The a/c unit was working fine until June when it stopped. They found that the TXV needed to be replaced and there was a leak on the outside coil. They came out the next day as they didn't have the part with them. They then spent most of the day replacing the part and fixing the leak. About a week later Adam and a tech came out to inspect to make sure everything was working properly. The a/c unit was working again until the end of August (hottest time of the year in Ohio) when it stopped again. In addition to my wife and small children being home, we also just got a new puppy so this just added to the frustration. The tech came out later that day after I called them. I came home from work to hear exactly what was going on from the tech. He said that the TXV needed to replaced again. He went on to explain that the company that made the part shipped out a lot of bad parts and it happened that they replaced the defective one with another defective one. Also, the filter was clogged and needed to be replaced (it was a 9 month filter that was just put in May so not sure how it got clogged so much within 3 months) The next day another technician (Chris) came out to replace the part. I was told again by him that this was a known issue with the company that made the part and other a/c vendors having the same issue with units with that part. He said they replaced at least 30 of these in the last month. He said that I could Google it to see this. I did search Google and Bing (both the web and the news links) but found no results for that part or for my unit having any issues. I also went on CJS website to see if there was a new alert or anything mentioning this and couldn't find anything throughout their site. I talked to Adam to express my concerns after the part was replaced again. He reiterated that this was an issue with the part from the third party. I suggested that they put something on their site to mention this and he said they were in the process of doing so. Even today, I do not see anything on their site (main page or news sections) mentioning this. Also, he said they would send something out in the mail explaining the issue with the company of the part but still have not received til date. He suggested that he could come out again to make sure everything was okay but I told him no need as they did that last time and there was still an issue later. I understand things happen out of your control like getting a bad part from another company. I even understand the small odds of getting another defective part to replace the defective part. The reason I gave this a D review is how the CJS handled (or didn't handle) the situation. If there is an issue that big and affects that many customers, you communicate to them before they have to call that it is broke. That is either by phone call, e-mail, company website or even letter in the mail. And if they call you first and you say that your website is going to be updated with a message and you will receive something in the mail, you should stick by your word. I gave a D review for quality because I don't know if it is going to need to be replaced again. The summer season is over and we haven't used our a/c for a couple of weeks now and won't use again until next year. Under "Would you use this provider in the future?", I put no but our units are still under warranty so if it breaks again, we are stuck using them. Trust has definitely been broken between us and this company. I still don't know if what they say about the part is true as don't have anything to prove it. Before this happened I was going to refer them on our neighborhood site where I am our neighborhood lead but that is not going to happen now.

The first visit by a technician determined the whole system needed replaced. A sales person came out to check my house and the system and make sure the new system was properly sized. The sales person was Adam and he was honest and answered all my questions. He also made himself available through email and phone for any problems with install. The air conditioner was replaced and only worked for a few days. I called to have CJS come and look at the system. They have a guarantee that indicates they will repair the problem within 24 hours or they pay me $500. They were out within a few hours and stayed into the middle of the night to trouble shoot the system. The system worked for a short period of time. The system failed multiple times prior to finding a true "fix." Two different technicians were out to my home, and I received a phone call from the "manager" to discuss the problem. They admitted my problem was new to them and they were in contact with the manufacturer and had a meeting with all the technicians to determine how to solve the problem. After some very tense discussions, and some very stressful news, I was informed it could be my furnace causing the problem. (The furnace was installed in 2007). They ordered some parts and sent out Chris (who I have previously raved about.) Chris spent two days working on the furnace, and was able to determine the new coils that were installed were creating a restriction. So, it was the new system that was installed causing the problem, not my furnace (phew!). Chris ordered the part the first day, and installed it the second day. He stayed to check all of his readings, checked all of the air flow through the system, and adjusted everything to make sure it was working optimally. He also did some education to make sure I knew how to make sure the system is running at its best. Ever since Chris repaired the system, the air conditioner works like a champ. It keeps my house at any temperature I set it at. I also have a new wireless thermostat and I can change the temperature while I am away from home. The adjustments Chris made on the system are obvious. The air returns need cleaned on a weekly to bi-monthly basis so I know the system is working much better than it ever was! Once the problem was found, CJS did everything they could to fix the problem. They were honest, and made sure everything was fixed to my satisfaction. They are truly a company you can trust, and there are many out there you can't. And yes, they did come through on their frustration guarantee and sent me a $500 check for failing to repair the system within 24 hours. There is no doubt, I will never call another HVAC company again. I am a loyal CJS customer.

CJS did exactly what they said they would do. They completed a review of my A/C system for $79. Regrettably, the solution offered by the technician was not helpful. The CJS technician identified "multiple leaks in the evaporator coil." The solution offered was to replace the evaporator coil that would take 4 hours at a cost of $1884. This estimate seemed high to me based on my research. I called another company for a second opinion. The second company identified a leak in the evaporator coil. The technicians estimated they could repair the leak and it would take 2 hours. Their estimate was $580. I had the work completed by the second company and my A/C is working very well.

It is understandable that the price of your repair is important to you, it's important to us also. We are very cautious about how we handle certain repairs. When it comes to coil leaks we have made a decision in the interest of what many of our clients not to repair them. The reason for this decision is opinionated so what I am saying is based on our experiences with our clients and an overall opinion we have formed. What we, and many of our clients have come to find out over the last 20 plus years of us serving the community is that when a coil repair is done it's because the coil has grown weak. When a coil grows weak many leaks start to rear their head. When our company completes a repair we back that repair up with a 2 years part and labor warranty. Many times the old repaired coil will continue to develop new leaks and then the client becomes unhappy. Many clients will even say, “You should not have recommended repairing the coil but to replace the coil” When we replace a coil the manufacture backs the coil up with a 5-year part warranty and we back it with our 2-year labor warranty. We would rather be a bit more expensive up front but offer the repair that we feel is best for the client than just do the band aid repair take your money and when it leaks again in the future say something like " it's leaking in a new spot that we hadn't previously fixed we are going to have to charge you for that" It's an opinion but one that we feel is in the best long term interest of helping to solve the clients problem, and building strong client relationships. He (The "c" in CJS as he proclaimed) did a quick visual of system and said unit had a leak but wouldn't diagnose any further, he did not go thru the unit as I expected. He immediately suggested a new unit as I was throwing money down drain. I understood but was trying to limp with the system as I don't have immediate money for new system due to medical bills. He also found a plugged drain and explained to me how to fix it on my own as it wasn't a hard task and I could save some money. I was very appreciative of this and told him so. He added Freon (my request) even though he didn't recommend it and he called and reffered me to a comfort specialist for a new system. The comfort tech came out and explained what he could do and said he would have estimate in a couple days. I've made multiple contacts and have had any replies on estimate. Subsequently I've scheduled estimates from other companies. I picked CJS from AL based on reviews have not been impressed on follow thru, the initial service was ok but would have been better if the tech would've just followed a diagnostic checklist and told me the cost of repairs and not focus as much on a new system (even though it is needed). He was real good. He did a good job and was very thorough. They had a $25 off special. He answered my questions. He wore booties on his shoes so that he wouldn’t track dirt. He came out the next morning.

we had a hot water heater leak on a Sunday that was manageable, called CJS and a tech was there first thing Monday morning. It was decided we needed a new hot water heater, and it could be done first thing Tuesday Morning. Jake and James B. came about 8:20 a.m. removed the old hot water heater and installed the new one in 4 hrs time. It was a total professional and pleasant experience. I would recommend them to anyone who has plumbing or air conditioning, heating needs. Thank you very much CJS!!!!

They said they were “150% happy with our service technician and just thought the world of him.” We understand that owning a rental property is an investment and that keeping the expenses low are a priority in making the investment work. Our business, like your property is also an investment and there is a price for delivering our Top Notch, and Speedy Services to the families of the communities we serve. You have every right to be unhappy with the price we charge for our services. Unfortunately that unhappiness with pricing has lead to the degrading of our company’s reputation by stating that we “double charged” for our services, which we absolutely did not. You then continued degrading CJS by giving us D’s and F’s on quality, responsiveness, punctuality, and professionalism even though you were not present to witness any of these things, and the family that was present during our visit to your investment home gave us all A’s. We understand you really have one concern and that is was price. That’s fair but it’s not ok to degrade a company’s overall reputation because you were unhappy with pricing. The dispatcher called to ask if his serviceman could come earlier than scheduled...EARLIER...amazing...they usually call to let you know how late they will be. John was clean, polite and professional. What a gentleman! He performed a very thorough inspection. He determined that my system was in good working order...and I didn't need to spend any more money. What a huge relief! Our system is 16 years old. I bought the Silver Membership for $16 per month and am considering upgrading to the next level. The previous HVAC company that I was under contract with, had many suggestions on how I could spend money with them. I feel very comfortable saying I can wholeheartedly recommend CJS Heating & Air.

The tech who came out was probably the most professional tech I have ever spoke with during an HVAC visit. He visited us after our working hours which made it very convenient for my wife and I since we work far from our home. It was determined that the filter was the main culprit but the system also needed some cleaning maintenance. After speaking with the tech he convinced us that it was the best option to purchase their maintenance package for service which provides them coming out twice a year. He said he wouldnt perform the maintenance but to call and reschedule someone to come out to service the system. When I called today (6/17/14) the operator told me that they only do maintenance during 8-4pm through the week and appointments for service are for later hours. This was not disclosed at the time of selling the service package to me. This causes a problem because my wife and I can not come home from work to have the system serviced. Ended up working out a time for me to come home early on friday to be there for service. Due to the constraints from the company on the maintenance package I will probably opt out of the maintence package after my two scheduled services are completed. The failure to disclose this information during the maintenance sale and unmoving condition from the phone rep is the reason for my grade of "C".
Description of Work: I called them to perform a diagnostics on my HVAC system because it didnt seem to be running at its best.

We bought a new house back in December and the a/c went out just two days after the first time running it in May. We have used another good heating and air company in the past but they were unable to troubleshoot the problem as it was Friday afternoon and couldn't get out until Monday. That was a problem as my wife is a stay at home mom with two small children. I checked on Angie's List and called a couple other places and they couldn't get there until Monday or Tuesday or they wanted to charge overtime to get there same day. Then I came across CJS which also had a coupon on Angie's List. They could come out same day and no overtime charges. Chris came out around 3:30pm and diagnosed the problem. It was not good news as the coil inside the furnace needed to be replaced and there was other leaking on the outside unit. He was nice enough to stay at our house until I got home from work so he could show me exactly what the problem was. He was very professional and showed me exactly what the problem was and my options were. He also noticed that there was a crack on the heating element and after further investigation more cracks were inside and he had to turn off our gas. Safety is definitely important to our family and if Chris didn't notice that, who knows what could've happened. He also gave us our options as to replace the heating element. He said we could either replace the a/c coil and the heating element (around 2500 dollars) but that because of the age of each unit there was no guarantee that other things wouldn't start to go out. He said that someone could come out and give us a free estimate/energy analysis on a new system (just a/c or a/c and furnace). Adam came out the next day and measured the house and reviewed our current units. He also asked us a lot of questions in regards to comforts and expectations. He explained what would be required to cool/heat our house and recommended units based on need. He was very professional, honest and never pushy. He gave us all the information to make an informed decision and his cell phone for any questions (I called several times). After much discussion with my wife, reading the reviews on Angie's List and checking a couple other places on line, we decided to go with new units. Some other companies had cheaper units but review after review stated how good CJS service was and that is very important to us. We decided to go with a 96% efficient furnace and 14 Seer a/c unit. I called Adam on Monday and they were able to get out there that Wednesday. The techs were very professional from beginning of installation (made sure they wore their pink booties anytime they were in the house and had drop cloths throughout) to the end (cleaned any mess that was made and explained how to change the filter). After they were leaving I had a question and called Adam and immediately one of the techs called me to answer it. If that wasn't enough to give them an A rating, Adam called the next day to schedule a time for him to come out and do a follow up on the system. We scheduled it about two weeks after the install which was good as it gave us time to use the a/c and come up with any other questions (again, had several). I am software QA (quality assurance) analyst and my job is about the details so I know how important it is. CJS goes above and beyond to make sure quality is in the details. They always put the customer first and give all the information to make an informed decision. I wish more companies out there were like CJS. I would definitely recommend them!

Scheduled a same day service call. Was given a time of 2-4pm. Received a call at 12:30 that provider could show up early if I wanted them to and I did. Josh showed up at the promised time and listened to my concerns. Once he had what he needed from me, we took a look at the unit. He was unable to reproduce the leak from the drip pan and the system worked as it should. Josh went ahead and did some additional testing to verify the rest of the system was working. We went over the pricing, the guarantees, and the club membership options. Price was as promised and Josh said if the issue return to give them a call.
Description of Work: Diagnostic services provided to troubleshoot an internal water leak in the AC unit.

I found CJS on Angie's list and read some of the reviews and they were positive so I decided to give them a shot. My husband and I have had mostly negative experiances when it comes to hiring professionals so I'm not gonna lie I was skeptical. I received a phone call telling me they were in the area sooner than expected and if I would like they would stop by within the next 30 min or so (star #1) I didn't have to wait around all afternoon. James came to the door and introduced himself and as I invited him in he slipped covers on his shoes( star #2) I like my house clean. Instead of coming in and running straight to the furnace and walking around like he owns the place James was very polite asked me to show him where things were and explain the problem (star #3) I hate feeling uncomfortable in my own home and I did not feel this way at all!! There was no pressure to sell me an upgraded furnace or thermostat....even though mine are outdated and need to be replaced (star#4) I hate it when people use scare tactics to sell you things, and this was definatly not his approach!! James made a point to introduce himself to my five year old daughter (star #5) most people ignore small children and generally she is scared of people coming in the house, but not today. And finally, James killed a spider hanging out in my furnace (star # 6-1,000,000,000) I hate spiders!! Overall highly recommended and we will be using them from now on!!

Our 14 year old HVAC system had a large leak which allowed all the refrigerant to leak out. Instead of repairing the problem,with a probable cost of $1500+, we chose to get quotes on new system installation. CJS Heating and Cooling was on our short list of companies based on Angie's List, BBB, and Google reviews. They came out and did a quantitative measurement (Manual J calculation) and qualitative measurement (questions on our comfort level), I was impressed they took to the time to see if our broken system was sized adequately for the job -- it was not. Their quote was not cheap by any means; however, they did have the BEST value for the money. The system they quoted us had the features we wanted, the support we wanted, and ultimately at the price/financing we wanted. Adam did a fantastic job on the sales side of the transaction. He presented options and answered our questions WITHOUT the typically salesman pitch. There weren't any hard sales tactics or last minute pleading to clinch the sale, just info and figures to back his quote up. He also came prepared with quotes full of technical details (I like this, I'm an engineer). He also ran additional quotes based on some parameters I wanted changed in a matter of hours after close of business. Day of installation: They showed up shortly after 8:00 am ready to go and had booties to protect our floors as they went in and out. They also placed painters tarps on the floors and stairs to protect our floors when they brought the equipment in on hand-carts. They really impressed me with their attention to detail, making sure nothing was broken, destroyed, or marked-up. They carefully removed the existing furnace and AC unit. Trying to be an informed consumer I research the installation process on the internet and CJS followed all the recommended stuff to the letter (e.g., new line-set, nitrogen purge on the lineset, vacuum the lineset). They answered all my annoying questions and again had attention to detail making sure everything looked great. The installation wasn't in the easiest of spots and the plenum work was all custom made the day of installation. If a place is putting this much emphasis on the details, the large stuff takes care of itself. Adam actually showed up at the end of installation to see how things were going and walk me through the various features of the system. This really impressed me, I'm not normally one for that kind of hand holding; but stopping by to make sure I was happy was icing on the cake. CJS didn't require any money up front and told me there wouldn't even be authorization to pay until I was happy with the install. As a side note, during removal of the broken system CJS found a manual had been left in the evaporator coil. The funny thing about this is I had another local company previously maintaining my system and they somehow never saw it -- it should have been VERY obvious to an HVAC technician worth their salt.

When it came time to replace my air conditioner and furnace I went to Angie?s list to pick out 5 top rated HVAC contractors. All 5 showed up and quoted the project. After reviewing all the quotes it became obvious that CJS Heating & Air provided the greatest value for the money and the lowest overall price. Where others came through and quickly guessed the heating and air conditioning sizes CJS did a thorough analysis by measuring the house size, number or returns, etc. There estimate determined the need for an additional cold air return which was included. Also included was a new plenum and cold air return sized to the new furnace. Nobody else made that offer. They refused to take any money until the job was done and we were completely satisfied. They also offered a 6-1/2 % discount for cash which nobody else did. They were hands down the best price and did a great job. What else could you ask for? One additional item they installed my new tank less water heater and run a gas line into my work shop as part of the project.
Description of Work: Removed the old furnace, air conditioner and water heater. Then installed the new furnace, air conditioner, tankless water heater, plenum, cold air return ducting and a extra gas line.
