 + 0 moreHis quote was for $734. When all done, I had to pay him $1378 (plus $300 for tiles that was not in his estimate so not counting that). Basically he quoted based on hours that he estimated for the job (he charges $85/hr which I did not know until he billed me, he only put $600 for labor), after work started and it seemed to be take much longer, but I did not think of challenging him on his estimate since his estimate was in writing and I thought a few more hours is ok. Any ways, it took him over twice the estimated time, and I ended up much more than what I would have paid with cost/sqft that Lowes would have charged. He is a very nice gentleman - soft spoken, professional, and his quality of work is excellent, but I cannot justify having to pay so much more. I would use his service again if it is fixed cost, and not by the hours that can go way over his estimate!
Description of Work: I had about 105sqfeet of carpet in 2 second floor bathrooms. He replaced carpets with Ceramic Tiles. He picked up tiles from Lowes.

 + 3 moreAll of the work was done to our secification and Chuck did an outstanding job of overcoming numerous obstacles while maintaining the schedule and budget.
Description of Work: New laminate countertops were installed in a very difficult kitchen. The ceiling slopes so that the countertop had to be installed in pieces and the connections made underneath rather than making connections and flipping the countertop over. In addition modifictaions had to be made to woodwork to accomodate the new counter style. Chuck did all of this work efficiently and the result is beautiful. Chuck also installed a new ceramic floor in the bathroom; installed bathroom cabinetry and fixtures. The new bathroom is exactly what I wanted. He also removed and replaced two exterior doors. Again this was a difficult job because the original doors were not standard sizes. Chuck revamped the openings to fit standard exterior doors which included raising the threshold to match newly installed hardwood flooring and lowering the opening height. The new doors look as though they have always been there when viewed from inside or outside the house and we are very pleased with the improved function and efficiency. We always call Chuck when home renovation or repairs are required. In fact, we are planning a significant upgrade to our family room, removing a wall and adding a wet bar and we have already requested Chuck schedule us for the job.

 + 2 moreEach project has been accomplished timely and well. Chuck is easy to work with. During the kitchen remodel, there were several other contractors and an inspector involved and Chuck managed those subcontracts very effectively. I most appreciate that Chuck can do all aspects of a job - it allowed us to make some changes "on the fly" during the kitchen remodel and Chuck had the skills to bring diverse elements together. I would definitely recommend Chuck!
Description of Work: Chuck remodeled a dining room space into a mud room and pantry. The job included drywall and electrical work and was done timely and well. (2005) Chuck remodeled kitchen space. Required gutting two rooms, removing two walls, moving an outside entrance, removing ceramic flooring. Installed ceramic flooring in three rooms, installed more than 30 cabinets including a unique configuration that serves as a buffet. Also did drywall, built a halfwall, did some plumbing and electrical including moving and adding outlets and ceiling lighting. (2009) Chuck has also done small jobs from time to time.

 + -1 moreOverall things went very well. Chuck double booked the first appointment he set so we had to reschedule but it was no big deal. Time will tell his workmanship holds up but the window has to be better than what it was. Even though he used my materials I was still shocked at the price (was expecting more). Chuck later told me that he normally charges $40 an hour so next time I'll have more work for him. I would definitely use him again in the future!
Description of Work: Chuck and Doug came out and inspected and caulked my bay window. Albeit they used my caulk because Chuck cleaned his truck out a day earlier. My bay window was leaking intermittently and I needed to get it inspected and fixed before my renters moved in.

 + 3 moreThis house was an example of how not to buy real estate. In a bad neighborhood, needing a lot of repairs. The house had recently been broken into twice resulting in broken doors and framework. After searching long and hard, I finally came across Chuck. Words alone cannot describe him. Chuck is uniquely exceptional!!! He replaced a door, repaired framing, repaired a sub-floor and reinstalled the toilet, installed railing, checked and repaired windows that were not installed properly. He also assisted with electrical, provided tools, and more! Awesome in every way!
Description of Work: Chuck was able to fix everything. This house needed a lot of work including doors, windows, sub-flooring, drywall, plumbing, and more. He did far over what was asked and still was exceptionally reasonable about pricing. He stayed on the job for several days and was always prompt and ready to go! An exceptional person! An exceptional servicer!
