Centerville Pipestone Chimney Services

The worst supposed tradesmen I've ever hired. Needed some brick work repaired and paid Centerville Pipestone quite a bit of money to do the work. They used the wrong size brick, did not use expert strike joints and overall did a very poor job. When I complained that the work looked shoddy, Chris's attitude was tough s#$^ as he had been paid and no longer cared. The mortar started popping in less than a year. I had to hire a real mason to do the repair properly. I give Centerville Pipestone a 0/5. They are not professional or honest. The honest part comes out when Centerville Pipestone was on my street a few years later doing another chimney. I ask the mason on the roof to come over and take a look and bid to repair the wall - the mason was new to the company. Chris was not around, so I was unaware it was the same company (I believe the van was unmarked and a lot of companies use similar sounding names). The mason starts commenting on the shoddy workmanship and he'd have to bring the owner over to bid the job. The next day they come back and since it had been 3 or 4 years, I was not 100% sure it was Centerville Pipestone until they left a card and a bid. Chris did not fess up that he had done the previous work. I then checked the previous invoice against the new bid and realized it was the same company. Had I not checked, he would have duped me again. I give gypsies who scam unsuspecting homeowners a higher rating than these guys.

Wonderful, the price was good, the guys were prompt and very helpful on issues concerning my wood burning stove.

The rebuild was extremely shoddy and out of plumb (see attached photo). Mr. Lux kept the repair under a tarp, so when I got home from work, I could not see the actual repair. The next day at twilight, Mr. Lux came by to take off the tarp and collect his check. It was difficult to see the repair, but I could see the chimney cap at the very top had been reinstalled and appeared straight. Against my better judgment, I paid him. The next morning when I saw the crooked chimney, I called him immediately and he promised to make it right. However, after three months of trying to get him to return my calls and answer my letters, I had an inspector check Mr. Lux's repair and it was deemed unsafe -- I was told not to use the chimney. I hired someone else to re-accomplish the repair and took Mr. Lux to small claims court to recover what I paid him. I won the small claims case, but Mr. Lux and Centerville Pipestone Chimney both have multiple court claims and tax liens against them, so to date, I have not recovered my judgment. Mr. Lux is still heavily advertising his company and offering coupons in JB Dollar Stretcher and other coupon fliers -- don't fall for it.

He was very honest with us, and saved us a lot of money by not recommending work we didn't need. Other guys told us our chimney had to be completely rebuilt, and he told us we could get another 20 years out of our chimney.

What I liked most about them was that they were really fast in their work as it only took them half of a day to get the work done. Overall, they did a really great job! I highly recommend their services. Their price was really reasonable as well.
