He said emphatically that it could be repaired and would last "another hundred years." He seemed very sure of himself and guaranteed his work. Despite paying him $1,000 for the work, I found that the clock quit working properly a month after he brought it back. When I called him he said he was too busy to come at the time. He did come later, but merely oiled the clock, charged me for a service call, and left. The clock continued to malfunction.
Description of Work: I needed an antique tall clock repaired.

Description of Work: I have used Matt Tooney many times in the past years. About 1 1/2 years ago he worked on my carriage clock. I lived in Beavercreek then. I asked Matt to get a new mechanism for the clock. I had this clock fixed before from Brunnings and they told me that on this clock, it was much less expensive to replace mechanism than to find and possibly fix this kind of clock. Mr Tooney did not do as I requested/He fixed the clock, so he said, and charged me $200.00. I did not try the clock because I was in the throws of moving to my current address, so I put a towel on it, to protect it from dust. When I moved here and had a place for the carriage clock I started it ticking. It would run for 2-3 days and quit. This happened a few times and I called Mr. Tooney and when he was over here with a Grandfather clock I needed fixing, he took my clock with him. |He then confirmed that I was right. I again asked him to put new workings in the clock as I asked him to do before. He agreed. Since that day have called many, many times. One time he said that he did not have the money to order the workings until his credit card was paid down or offs. |The next time I called which was about 2 months, he said he had ordered it and it was back ordered. That was the last time I talked to him. Months have gone by and he does not answer the phone when I call. I either want my clock back, finally fixed. If this is not possible, I want my clock back and a check for $200.00. I believe I have tried to work with him long enough, and enough is enough!

Things did not go well. When I brought my clock home it took a day or two to settle down and get the chime in sync with the time. Then all was good until the hour hand fell off in March. I called several times to let him know and left messages. Finally he picked up, .he said he was in his car and to call back to make an appointment so he could put the hour hand back on. I called several times and he did not pick up or return my call. Finally yesterday I caught him in the car again and again he said his appointment book was at home and to call back about 4:00 PM. I did and left a message with days and times that would work for me; any morning and all day on Thursday. There was no response to my message. I called twice today and no response. I had the same problem with communication when i wanted to know how the repair was going and to set up a time to pick up my clock. It seems the only time I can get him on the phone is when he is unable to screen his calls, I gave up on email because they were never answered. I CCed both of his email address. It looks as though he has no intention of honoring his guarantee or standing behind his work. Mr. Toohey finally returned one of my calls and I'm to take my clock in for repair next Friday.
Description of Work: He dismantled and cleaned my antique Seth Thomas mantle clock. Repaired worn bearings, polished pivots, oiled and reassembled

It took quite a long time to get our clock back. We had to keep calling him to find out what the status of our clock was. It took over 5 months to finally get our clock back and has never worked properly since. The pendulum now swing at an angle and will stop running after a few hours.
Description of Work: Tried to fix our Grandfather clock. One of the weights cables broke.

He picked it up and seemed very nice explaining what he would do and showed me the different parts of the inner workings. I got it back about 3 weeks later with the bill and a promise of a 1 yr. warranty. The chimes never did synch correctly and despite numerous calls a a couple of conversations, I tried to follow his directions and it would work correctly for a few hours and then become unsynched again. Finally ,he comes by (allegedly ) when I wasn't home. He told me I had been notified that he was coming ( which I wasn't) and since I wasn't here, that my warranty was voided and I would be charged for any further work. I had also given his number to my 95 yr. old Dad who took one of his clocks to Mr. Toohey who charged him a quite a bit considering the clock he had was also not fixed. He seemed very nice to start but then just gave us both the run around and we both got charged a lot of money for nothing.
Description of Work: He cleaned and oiled a grandfather clock. Was supposed to fix the chimes and restore proper timekeeping.
