Phil and his employees were completely professional and walked us through the entire demolition and installation process. They were quick, efficient and the quality of work was exceptional. I would highly recommend Baker Group to anyone in need of remodeling.
Description of Work: Installation of granite countertops, subway tile backsplash, legs added to a kitchen peninsula counter, installation of new sink and faucet, installation of range hood vent.
We LOVE the work - the kitchen is beautiful and very functional. We have an island on wheels, and Phil created a walnut top for the island to contrast with the color and texture of the quartz countertops. The workmanship is top notch and Phil and the crew were great to work with - flexible and professional. Would without a doubt go with them again.
Description of Work: Phil Baker and his crew remodeled our kitchen - complete makeover - but retaining our appliances.

Outstanding job from start to finish. Phil Baker listens, responds, and acts promptly. He anticipates well and creates the schedule for work accordingly. Trustworthy, conscientious, and punctual--all qualities that make for a job well done. Very pleased with cabinet build and painting--no stone unturned when Phil's team is **** the work!
Description of Work: Bathroom cabinet build and installation.
We were very pleased as they actually did more than we expected and we were completely satisfied with the entire process. We were able to leave for a week while they completed the flooring with out any concerns or worries. When we returned home, the job was completed and we were able to resume living in our home with our new floor .
Description of Work: We had them remodel our basement and then had them come back and install wood floors for us as we were pleased with our previous experience.
Wonderful! They were very professional and trustworthy and reliable . They did a great job and we are going to use them again in the future. And on a side note we had 3 estimates and they were the highest but we felt very good about them from the start . You get what you pay for, they showed up everyday, did what they said they would and were very professional and we were kept in the loop and they were always willing do make minor changes. Also there were these whole wall dance mirrors from prior owners on walls. Other contractors said cant do it. They said they would try and remove all but keep the middle one like I wanted . It worked . They built a frame around the mirror and it looks awesome. A mirror this size would be very expensive to purchase . Love it!
Description of Work: Update very old poorly finished basement
We received four quotes for this job and Phil was on the lower end price-wise. Phil's experience, confidence, and references were convincing so he got the job. We built our house in 2013 and had a terrible experience with our builder so we were prepared for the worst. However, Phil and his team were excellent. They started the job early and finished on time. They showed up when they said they would and always left the work site clean and neat. Phil's communication and responsiveness were excellent. The crew of Tommy, Benito, and Mike were well skilled, professional, on-time, and came with some very good ideas that we implemented as the project progressed. Their attention to detail was also quite good. We had some very specific custom woodworking we wanted and the guys made it turn out just as we had envisioned. As with any project this size, things change or need to be re-done. Phil never pushed back and didn't 'nickle and dime us' when we asked for minor changes or to re-do something that didn't meet our expectation. It's nice to know there are actually contractors out there that understand the investment customers are making in their homes and take it seriously. We are extremely satisfied with the price, quality, and finish of our basement and would highly recommend Baker Group for any similar job.
Description of Work: Finished approx. 1,400 square feet of basement with a full bath install
Phil Baker and his group were extremely professional, keeping us informed daily on what was going on. They were always on time and cleaned up after working each day. Phil made our cabinets. They are so beautiful as well as functional, space saving, and high quality workmanship. His attention to detail is second to none! We could not be happier with our beautiful new kitchen.
Description of Work: We needed a total kitchen remodel, except for the floors.
The Baker Group came out and renovated our dated master bath which included removing everything and starting from scratch. We had previously had Baker Group out to renovate our basement two years ago and were happy to see the same small team in place we saw before. Friendly folks who work hard. They did a fantastic job and finished under schedule, on budget, with great communication and professionalism. They added wainscotting, a five foot by five foot walk in shower, new sinks and toilet, a new glass block window in the shower area, as well as new tile, and paint. Unfortunately, our Master Bath is now the nicest part of our house and no one ever sees it except us :)
The job went very well. Baker Group were very professional in everything they did. They worked very neat and organized during the entire project and cleaned up daily as the project was worked. There entire staff were all very knowledgeable, friendly, and great to work with.
Description of Work: Had wet bar and shelving built in my basement, Had under and over cabinet lighting installed in kitchen including new electrical connections.
We wanted to have a wet bar installed in the lower level of our house. I interviewed several companies who either stood me up and didn't show for the meeting or told me the custom touches that I wanted for my bar weren't possible. I reached out to Phil to see if he would come over and discuss the bar I had in mind. As soon as he arrived in my house, I knew he was different. He was very personable and professional. I was relieved that he was open to my custom ideas and he even had some suggestions to make it even better. He gave us an estimate and it fell right within our budget so we jumped on the opportunity to use him and his company for the remodel. When Phil and his guys arrived, I was instantly amazed at their professionalism and "clean cut" appearance. My father owned a construction business so I'm familiar with the types of guys that typically do this kind of work. I was surprised that these workers looked like they could be working desk jobs at any corporation. They were extremely courteous, on-time, clean-cut, and meticulous. They even laid drop cloths in the hall and down the steps when they arrived so they didn't dirty the rest of the house. At the end of each day, they cleaned up the work area and I never had to deal with any dirt or garbage laying around. As for the custom cabinets and bar top that Phil made himself I can't say enough about how beautiful they are. I asked that my cabinets be made out of wood that still had knots in it, and I wanted my bar top to be one big slab of live-edged wood. The results are stunning. My husband who is notoriously tough to please, couldn't even find anything wrong. They are beautiful and everything I asked them to be. Phil has defiantly exceeded all our expectations and worked hard to make our requests fulfilled. He has definitely won our business going forward for other projects we want to do. We can't say enough good things about him.
Description of Work: Built bar in lower level of house.

Phil and his team (Tommy and Benito) did an excellent job. They were prompt, courteous, and professional at all times, and their work quality was top notch. They always communicated in advance when they would be coming and going, they were careful to not make a mess and clean up after themselves. They kept the project on track throughout despite the typical issues that arise on projects like this. Phil also provided his candid input regarding design decisions that truly improved the end result, including suggestions on where it made sense to spend a little extra money and where it didn't. Our family loves our new basement!
Description of Work: Finished about 540 sqft of basement. This included some minor tear out, two vertical support beams, relocation and enclosure of our water heater, spray foam insulation, drywall, trim, spray painted ceiling (i.e., not drywalled), painted walls and trim, one door, a small closet, 15 LED can lights, 4 wall sconces, home theater wiring, additional TV wiring, and switches and outlets. Flooring was not included.
It went great, finished project looks amazing and Phil was extremely professional throughout the entire process. Extremely talented and thorough with his work.
Description of Work: Phil designed and installed our built in cabinets, along with painting our basement, fixing shoddy work from a previos contractor, and fonally configuring the cable wires so we could have a t.v. installed above our fireplace.

Phil Baker did a thorough walk-through of the home and pointed out the many challenges, many of them quite expensive, that a total basement remodel would entail. While he advised my son that his company was up to the task, he told him that in his opinion my son and his wife would never be pleased with the finished product. He carefully pointed out the many factors that led him this conclusion. While my son was very disappointed with Phil's findings, he was extremely grateful for his honesty. He was convinced, as was I, that many remodeling firms would readily steer an eager homeowner into undertaking an expensive upgrade of this type--in this case approaching six figures--without regard for whether or not the finished project would meet expectations. I now know I was right in selecting Baker Group to help my son evaluate the wisdom of his dreams to transform his home in a way that it would provide lasting utility and value to a growing family. He told my son what he needed to hear, rather than what he wanted to hear, and that alone proves to both of us that this is an exceptional company in every respect.
Description of Work: My son asked me to research basement remodelers on Angie's List and recommend one or two that he could contact to provide ideas and pricing for creating usable living space in his unfinished basement. He purchased a fine home almost a century old in a great Columbus community just a few years ago which, with the arrival of he and his wife's first child and their future family's growth, required them to explore ways to increase its size. After reading the reviews for all basement remodeling firms, the one that stood out was Baker Group Remodeling. I phoned owner Phil Baker to discuss my son's needs and got very helpful and straight answers. He advised that his small specialty company was fully booked for about 3 months, but that he would be happy to meet with my son much sooner at the house to discuss the project, provide some design thoughts and cost ranges. My son deferred calling him until recently and when he finally did, Phil was able to accommodate a visit within a week.

Hard working and professional. Phil Baker was the point of contact, two employees (Tommy and Benito) did the majority of on-site work, with assistance from two others and one sub-contracted electrician. I received 4 bids on the project. Phil was the busiest of the 4 companies and couldn't start for several weeks, but he worked hard to get the bid done quickly. His price came in on target and his design was closest to the ideas I was trying to communicate. We were not in a hurry, so the delay in starting was not a big issue. Once the project started things went smoothly. At several points I made small changes to the job specs or had questions. All I had to do was send Phil a text and he usually replied immediately. In a few cases the changes were significant and charges were added, but most small changes Phil incorporated at no extra cost (which was very appreciated). A project this big has to be dynamic--as it's being built new things will come up, or the homeowner will realize something that they hadn't before--and Phil and his guys were very able to handle the changes. To me this is probably the most important characteristic on a big custom job like ours. Phil has a custom cabinetry/woodworking workshop. He built our bar and entertainment center there (all using CAD-style rendering) and then installed and stained them on-site. If your job needs custom cabinetry/woodworking, this is definitely a huge plus. He was able to send computer mock-ups before construction so I could visualize the project and make changes if needed. I had an unusual custom build (a large wood "box" on the ceiling running the length of the bar for glassware and lights) and Phil handled it with no problem. It came out beautifully. I will mention again that Phil is quite busy, and I think this may have slowed down the project some in the end as his other jobs ramped up (though a lot of this was me adding unexpected small things to the project). For us the time frame was not important, but if for some reason you are under a very tight schedule definitely talk to Phil about your constraints before signing. In the end we are very happy with our new basement. It is exactly what we had hoped for.
Description of Work: Tore out outdated finished basement in older home. Refinished walls & ceiling. Installed ceramic tile flooring, custom bar, and custom entertainment center. Added a half bath to an unfinished space.

Excellent! We have used Mike on several jobs before. His work always gets high compliments. I refer him to others looking for good contractors regularly.
Description of Work: Mike did a master bathroom remodel. We were uncertain about what and how much to order. He walked us through that whole process and we had everything waiting for him. He came in with his partner and completed the remodel in three days. The finished work looks great and there was very little waste.

Michael Baker and his co-worker turned up right on time to start the remodeling and this was the first indication of their professionalism and excellent work ethic. The work was of the highest standard and they gave us excellent advice of how to proceed. We were also very much impressed by their recommendations of where to shop for tiles and made arrangements for us to buy very nice tiles at reasonable price. It was easy to communicate with them and we were really pleased to have these upright guys working for us. The finished product is now the best room in our condo and everyone who saw this bathroom has nothing but praise for their work.
The project went great. I got estimates from two other firms, but they were so vague as to what they were intending to do, that I had no confidence in their quotes. Phil was very specific about what he was thinking and solicited my input to guide him. He was prompt and punctual, and very easy to reach. His two-man team who did most of the work, were great. They were on time every morning, exceptionally polite and friendly. I was very comfortable with them working in my home while I was at work. Also, they made a point of asking me my preferences on the details that arose during the project. Rather than just doing it whatever way they wanted to, they would walk me through items that arose the previous day that had more than one way of being finished to see which way I wanted. And for those items where I wasn't sure what I wanted, they talked me through the options with the pros and cons, and how they had seen similar issues addressed in other finishes. The job took about six seeks, but that included three major holidays. The only add-on from the original estimate was the installation of two steel I-bars to reinforce a foundation wall in an alcove, but even then that was mentioned as a possibility during the original estimate meeting with Phil because the foundation walls were hidden behind the pre-existing stained plywood and couldn't be assessed. Even so, the impact to the project was minimal overall. As for oversight, Phil checked in on his team every day via phone, and came over to personally assess progress and quality 4-5 times during the actual demo and refinish. They did a great job!
Description of Work: Demo and refinish of the basement. The old basement was shellacked dark, knotty pine that was installed circa 1958. The original ceiling had been replaced at some point with a drop ceiling and fluorescent lights. There was a dry bar that was poorly lit and the lack of electrical outlets one would expect in 1950's era home. Phil and his crew demo'd out the entire finished portion of the basement down to the cinder block walls and ceiling joists. The basement they installed included: Sheetrock on the walls and ceiling, with texture applied to the ceiling. The walls were painted with one coat of primer and two coats of wall paint. R13 fiberglass insulation in stud cavities on exterior walls, and sound insulation in the joist cavities for sound dampening. Baseboard and casing to match wood existing on the main floors aboveground. Added heating and cooling vent to the previously unheated/uncooled finished area. Added a utility sink in unfinished area by the washer and dryer. Added granite countertop where existing dry bar was located with open shelving behind the knee wall and built-in open shelving on the adjacent wall for storage. Wood was stained to match. Changed out six windows to glass block. Installed 8 can lights in the finished area. Replaced all the existing wiring in walls and ceiling area and added duplex arc-fault receptacles with spacing done to code in the finished area. One cable outlet was included in the price (I decided to go with a wireless receiver rather than hardwire the TV in the basement). Installed hard-wired smoke detector. Additionally, after the existing basement was demo’d it was apparent that the foundation wall in the dry bar area needed to reinforced, so 2 steel I-bars were set into the floor. The job did not include flooring (carpeting was installed over the existing original tile by a separate firm).
We met with several A rated basement finishing companies to get quotes for our basement project. Phil came in around the middle range in terms of price, but he gave us the best overview of the work that would be done and came up with a great design for what we wanted. Phil was fair, honest and straight forward from the beginning. As soon as they became available Phil and his crew came out and got to work. His crew is very professional and extremely courteous while they work in your home. They make sure to clean up each day as the job is in progress and I never felt uncomfortable with them working in the house while we were gone. Timelines and prices were exactly as they were explained in the contract, there were no surprises along the way. Any time a problem or a change needed to be made Phil and his team worked with us immediately to find the best solution. We were always kept in the loop, almost daily, as to what the status of our project was and what the plan for the week was. We cannot say "thank you" enough for the continuous contact and updates along the way. Phil is an excellent communicator. The end product is amazing -- and on time! Our basement is even better than we would have imagined and will be a space our family will enjoy for a very long time. I have already recommended the Baker Group to other friends who are planning to finish their basement and they will be my first call if I plan to have any more remodeling done in my home. If you are looking for an honest company, top quality work at a fair price, the Baker Group is definitely the right choice for you.
Description of Work: Finished about 800 square feet of our full basement. Including: Installing and finishing a half bath and wet bar Framing and drywall of 3 rooms Install and paint trim Electrical install including can LED lights in the ceiling, new outlets, speaker wire and A/V access panels Cabinet install Granite counter tops Painting of all the walls Drywall ceiling and matched existing texture

Phil and Mike were awesome to work with! Always prompt and considerate. Kind to the kids and even let our dog in and out when we were not around!! They work with top quality products and providers - our custom shower door is sooooo cool!!! Our bathroom was transformed from the ugly 80's to a beautiful spa-like room. Mike is still trying to help me determine a few final finishes that I would like. We would like to start a kitchen remodel and can't wait to see the cabinets that Phil is able to create!! We feel lucky we knew people that recommended the Baker brothers to us!!

When Mike met me on the initial consultation, I wasn't exactly sure what to expect. We had never had any bathrooms remodeled professionally. After asking us some questions, getting an idea of what we were looking for, and making a few professional suggestions he was able to put together a bid for us the same evening. We had already had some other companies out and we decided to move forward with Baker Group on the spot. The next day, Mike called to get us an installation date. The guys arrived the day they said they would and completely transformed the bathroom in a reasonable amount of time. I am a very satisfied customer. They did a really good job and it looks very nice. If anyone asks I will be recommending this company.

The second experience with Baker Group to remodel a bathroom at our home essentially mirrored the first experience except for we did not get other bids the second go-round! Both bathrooms had grown completely outdated. Now they are the rooms in the home we are most proud of! Our kitchen is next on the list of home improvement projects. Can't wait to see what Baker Group will be able to do with it!

Baker Group Remodeling Company completed our kitchen remodel in 2014. Countertops, cabinets, and baseboards were removed. The table chandelier and a flush mount ceiling light over the island were removed. Thirteen LED can lights with dimmers were installed throughout the kitchen and family room soffit. LED under mount lighting was installed in all cabinet areas. Two hanging pendant lights were installed over the kitchen island. Granite countertops were installed and an under mount Silgranit sink installed. All plumbing fixtures were updated and replaced. Two full walls of stone backsplash were installed. The kitchen and family room ceilings were patched, scraped and retextured. The kitchen, family room, study, entrance hall, and adjoining hallways were then painted. The adjoining powder room received a new toilet, mirror, LED lighting fixture, and all new accessories. A new exhaust fan and an ADA grab bar were installed. Phil crafted a new wooden medicine cabinet to match the one he had made for the master bathroom that he remodeled the year before. The walls were painted to match the kitchen. Phil and his crew did an exceptional job throughout. Phil constructed a custom floor to ceiling cabinet consisting of open bookshelves in the upper cabinet and soft close doors with two shelves for storage in the lower cabinet. A granite countertop matching the kitchen granite was installed to create a desktop for the phone. The workmanship on this unit is outstanding. Phil matched the stain to the exact color of the baseboards and woodwork in the rest of the house. The entire unit looks as if it were part of the original structure of the house. The crew spent three days meticulously cutting and arranging the stones of the two walls in the kitchen so that they would line up perfectly and continue the varied pattern around all cabinets, doorways, and the kitchen electrical outlets. Phil spent an entire day grouting the two stone walls, making sure every seam was grouted between the half inch stonework. Tarps were laid throughout the house and vacuumed each day to keep the area as uncluttered as possible. Phil constructed a plywood cornice to fit over the patio doors, which he mounted after I completed its covering. The crew also remounted all the custom window shades and all the artwork after painting throughout the rooms was completed. This is the third room remodel Phil has done for us in this house. He is professional, highly motivated, and takes great pride in his work. He has had the same men work with him each time he has done work for us. They are all perfectionists with regard to their work. Each man adds a special talent to this group of hardworking people. Each one feels that the finished product of their labors is a personal reflection of their work abilities. This attitude shows through in the finished products they have created in our home. When I consider any work to be done in this house or any future house, I only think of Phil and the Baker Group Remodeling Company. I don?t think I would be happy with anyone else.
Description of Work: Remodeled the kitchen, first floor powder room, and updated the lighting and walls of the study, family room, and first floor hallways.
I consider Mike Baker and his team to be very professional. Mike was on time with the delivery and delivered all he promised. He was onsite at the exact time we agreed to while providing exemplary quality. He removed the old tile, bath, etc, taking the debris offsite and cleaned up afterwards. What a pleasure to work with a professional who have great design ideas, looks for ways to cut costs, is thoughtful in approach. Integrity and now I have a beautiful walk in shower - perfect. By the way, I already recommended him to a neighbor for a complete bathroom remake that he recently completed.

,The work is impeccable, fairly priced and the customer care is natural. As noted earlier, I recommend the Baker Group for all construction projects from inception to completion. If you want a trusted advisor with bath, kitchen and home remodels, I suggest beginning with the best - Baker Group fits as noted in the 'provider do' section.
Description of Work: Mike Baker and the Baker Group have provided consulting, advice, strong ethics and a quality construction. This remarkable dependability and trust has been earned whether redoing a single room such as the bath, bathroom design, kitchen issues or awkward projects. Side windows are complicated to redo yet he did so with ease. I managed to purchase a bathroom cabinet that has fold-in mirrors that needed to be built into the interior wall along with electrical and plumbing work that is completed to precision. The priceless gift of trust and customer commitment is clearly reflected when I experienced issues with a leak. His troubleshooting and leadership in locating the issue so I could contact the right vendor is the reason I recommend the Baker Group for all bathroom and kitchen remodels as well as any other projects. By the way, he consulted with my vendor via face to face, phone, text with pics to ensure completion and understanding. Without him, I would have been paying a roof, window and handyman. Finding
