From start to finish, I was very happy with the process, the communication and the work completed. Phil was very helpful in discussing our current master bath issues and in helping us figure out what would be the best solution to the changes that we wanted to make. We anticipated that we are going to sell in next couple of years, but still wanted to make and enjoy the changes, without breaking the bank. Due to bad design, our current shower door was removed and we had replaced with a shower curtain. Additionally, we had no place to store shampoo, or soap. Phil was very attentive in listening to our ideas and made appropriate suggestions and changes based on our needs. As work progressed, he communicated daily with us to let us know what would occur that day, and what would occur the next. As small things popped up, he was quick to point out an idea or issue that might have cropped up with a suggestion. For example, after the wall was built up, the shower was not getting enough light so he suggested that an additional light be installed. He even purchased and installed the light without increasing the budget. We were given plenty of lead time if we needed to purchase something (trim, extra tile). He and his workers did a great job cleaning up after working each day, so that we could have as much access to our master bath as possible. I felt very comfortable leaving him and his workers access to the house to complete the work even if I was not able to be home during this time. He and his fellow workers are the most responsive folks that I have ever worked with in the home service area. There were a few minor touch up issues that I encountered and they were extremely quick to respond and have someone come out and fix immediately. This is the second time that I have used their services and continue to be impressed.
Description of Work: Master Bath upgrades - Removed tile around separate shower and bathtub area, built-up what was 1/2 wall to shower door height and installed niches for storing shower items, retiled areas, installed new faucets, coordinated installation of new shower door, painted bathroom, installed new trim, installed new canned lighting above shower, installed new mirrors.
It went wonderfully! They stayed on schedule and managed all of the hiccups that came up along the way. For example...when the shower tile was completed, we found that we had walls that were far from straight...the Baker Group had several suggestions of what to do to fix it...and they fixed it! Their team is ON TIME every single day and they clean up after themselves EVERY single day! That counts for a lot when you have 3 small children in the house. The contractors were professional and would even strike up conversation with my kids each day. They helped us save money where we could (moving services in and out of the original quote), and even connected me with vendors where they had preferred relationships (shower doors, tile, vanity, & granite). Lots of plumbing work...dismantle old jacuzzi and re-run plumbing for new washer and dryer hook-up. New shower plumbing and new sink plumbing...as well as toilet replacement. Lots of electrical work...dismantle of old jacuzzi, re-run of new washer n dryer electrical wiring, new canned lights, new bathroom fan, and new sink lights. Lots of tile work...floor to ceiling tile + the entire bathroom floor tile...all perfectly done! Didn't even need quarter-round because the tile job was so good! We felt so good with the work that we had them start to quote our kitchen while they were there. Once we are ready to do the kitchen, we will definitely have them back! Professional, clean, and high quality work all for a fair price.
Description of Work: The Baker Group did a Master Bathroom remodel for us that consisted of a demo (including an old jacuzzi), new shower, floor to ceiling shower tile, floor tile, new vanity/sink/fixtures, as well as connecting our master bath with a washer and dryer hook-up.
In 2011, Baker Group finished my basement. Having done an excellent job, I had them come back in 2013 to remodel the master bathroom. I wanted the entire room gutted, with the exception of the double sinks and vanity. I had taped out an outline of the shape and location of where I wanted the new shower. Phil and I designed the shower, which required moving a wall and rebuilding it, relocating the shower drain, creating a marble shower seat built along the entire exterior wall, and building a custom mud pan to fit the enclosure size. Glass shower walls were installed. Floor to ceiling wall tile was installed in the shower, with two niches for shower items. The shower floor was tiled and accent trim was added to the shower and above the double sinks. The entire shower area was waterproofed with a Schluter Kerdi waterproofing system. LED can lights and new exhaust fans were installed into the vaulted ceiling. The door to the separate toilet room was removed and replaced with a pocket door. All plumbing fixtures were updated and a new toilet installed. ADA safety bars were installed in the shower and toilet room. The electrical outlets and light switches were relocated. The bathroom floor was tiled in an offset pattern with two different sizes of tile. The walls received a custom paint treatment by Tommy. Phil crafted a new medicine cabinet to match not only the wood color of the vanity, but in his meticulous attention to detail, he even created the same routing design that the sink vanity had. Phil and his crew were just as courteous as the first time they had worked in our home. The crew arrived on time each day and all debris was disposed of and the area swept each night. The entire crew of Baker group displayed a positive, friendly, and relaxed, yet professional attitude. Phil was extremely easy to work with and was always open to customer ideas and concerns. The entire project was completed in the time frame originally proposed. All items in the contract were fulfilled and performance expectations were exceeded. The workmanship and attention to detail is impeccable. We absolutely love our new bathroom and plan on having Phil and Baker Group Remodeling come back to do our kitchen! We unconditionally recommend Baker Group Remodeling for the Angie?s List Page of Happiness and the Super Service Award!

WOW!!!! We have been enjoying our new basement for about two months and I still sit back and admire the craftsmanship of the work completed. Phil, Tommy, and Benito are true professionals. They converted a cold, tired, awkward basement into a dream space where we now spend the majority of our down time. What once was a dark corner of our laundry room is now a 200 sq. ft. full bath with a walk-in shower with floor to ceiling tile. What once was a storage room is now a family room with a custom entertainment built-in and a dry bar with custom painted cabinetry, granite top, and a built-in stainless steel beverage center. In addition we added a play room for our son that is the perfect size and feel. He loves it. During the initial site review I explained to Phil that I wanted the basement to have the the same look and feel as any other room in our house. Being an old basement I knew this was going to be a tall order, but Phil did not appear to be concerned. Now I know why. Our basement now looks like it could be in a home that was built last week. He really knocked it out of the park. The work itself took roughly 60 days and was actively managed by Phil every step of the way. Daily texts, phone calls, and/or visits by Phil, Tommy, or Benito kept the project on track and left us well-informed. The attention to detail and the ability to stay on budget was uncanny. Each phase required minor deviations from the plan due to the quirkiness of an old basement. If an issue cropped up I was informed and presented with options to get around the issue and stay on track with our plans and budget. Rather than saying something couldn't be done, they found a way to do it. My wife and I felt completely comfortable giving the guys open access to our home during the entire process. I work from home and travel and also have two large dogs that are not the friendliest at times. We were able to work out a system that kept everyone working and living in a comfortable environment while the job was in progress. We plan to do more work to our kitchen over the next year and I will ONLY work with Baker Group from here on out.
Description of Work: We hired Baker Group to finish our 700 sq. ft. basement in a 1950's ranch in Upper Arlington. Work included a large full bath with a walk-in shower, custom built-in, dry bar w/ granite top and natural stone back splash, family room, and play room.

The Baker Group exceeded my expectations in every way! I too had high expectations after reading all of the great reviews on Angie's List. Phil was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Prior to our project starting, he spent a lot of time working with us to discuss the layout and design of our basement. Once the project was underway we quickly realized why this group is in such high demand. Phil did a great job communicating and keeping us in the loop on a daily basis regarding the status of the job. I completely trusted him and his team. They were prompt, courteous, friendly and professional. I never worried about having them in our home while we were gone. Our basement was finished ahead of schedule and on budget. I would highly recommend Baker Group Remodeling.
Description of Work: Phil & his team finished our basement which was roughly 800 sq ft. The basement remodel also included a full bathroom and a custom murphy bed.
Michael helped to envision the conversion of a former study into renovating the room for a contemporary bathroom that fit with the design of our historic home. This included installing a new glass-sided shower with marble walls, marble-topped vanity, lighting, and marble floors. Lovely. Michael also oversaw other tradesmen to renovate our kitchen, installing granite countertops and backsplash, new cupboards, and lighting. It changed the kitchen while being cost effective. He reused the space from an adjacent room to enlarge the storage and closet space in the kitchen. He was great in bringing in a fresh and expanded look while retaining the character of the house. Mr. Baker is thoughtful and listens to owners' interests while carefully guiding them through suggestions. He is timely and communicates along the way to ensure everyone is kept informed. He is extremely punctual and professional in all he does.
Description of Work: Michael did a phenomenal job for us in renovating our historical home in Granville, OH. As part of the renovation, Michael converted a former office space to a new bathroom, complete with marble-top vanity and marble floors. His attention to detail made the bathroom both contemporary and classic to retain the grace of the historic home. In addition to his work on the bathroom, Michael also oversaw the work of other tradesmen to renovate the kitchen, adding granite countertops and backsplash.

Phil and his group were excellent to work with and were knowledgeable in their craft. Phil discussed everything that was involved in the project with my wife and I and there were no surprises. Phil and his group were detail oriented, quickly addressed any concerns and completed the project on time. From the beginning of the project we bounced ideas off of Phil and he provided solid insight into every idea (good & bad) and in the end we have a basement that is very nice and exactly what we imagined and wanted... Thanks to Phil, Tommy, and the rest of his crew.

First, the crew took out and disposed of the old drop ceiling, paneling and carpet in the "already finished" part of the basement. They installed electrical, HVAC and plumbing. Then they drywalled walls and ceilings, painted and, lastly, installed oak trim baseboard and doors and hardware. And Voila! A brand-new fitness room/TV area with a beautiful 3-piece bathroom (shower, toilet and sink+vanity). Phil Baker and his crew were top-notch professionals from start to finish. They answered our questions and kept us in the loop every step of the way. They were punctual, polite, reliable and hard-working. Phil had given us an estimate of 6 weeks, but the job was done ahead of time, in 5. I am extremely pleased, and would definitely use this company again for remodeling!
Description of Work: They finished one side of an unfinished basement, approximately 700 sq ft.

Phil and the team are incredible! We had them complete our basement renovation two years ago and, when we decided to update the kitchen, we did not even quote other contractors. Dependable, strong communicator, a focus on 'doing it right', gracious, and a team of professionals that understand how to work with homeowners. We had a 1990's planning desk in the kitchen that was not well utilized space, so we worked with Phil to design a custom storage unit that holds shoes, a phone charger, mail, kid's homework, and all of the other daily life clutter. I had a few ideas from pictures, but he brought the vision to life with smart recommendations that added to the functionality while maintaining the design form that fits the rest of the kitchen. The cabinetry work is fantastic! The rest of the kitchen (counter tops, back splash, new sink, lighting, paint) came together so nicely and the work is high quality. As you may expect, a big project may come with some surprises, but there were no change orders, work delivered on time, and on budget. We are delighted with the finished product and couldn't imagine working with any other contractor.
Description of Work: Kitchen remodel, which included new cabinet facings, painting of original cabinet boxes, new counter tops, updated back splash, new sink, under cabinet lighting, crown molding, light fixtures and custom in-kitchen storage unit for shoes, phones, mail and all of the other daily life clutter.

I had high expectations after reading all of the exceptional reviews on Angie's List but after having a chance to work with Phil and his crew I was even more impressed. Let me start of by saying that I am a perfectionist and I typically notice many details that others don't. I thought that I was going to notice problems during the construction process that I would have address with Phil but every time I went down in the basement to check on their progress I was extremely happy and had a smile on my face. I was very worried about my precious Brazilian koa floors in my entry way getting damaged as they carried in tons of drywall, lumber and materials along with lots of foot traffic. Phil and his crew took great care in protecting the floors and house while they were finishing the basement. Phil also did an excellent job of protecting our belongings in the unfinished space while they were working. We had a vacation scheduled during the construction project and I had no worries about leaving them with full access to the house while we were gone. Everyone on the crew are very friendly, courteous and respectful of our personal space. Phil was a great communicator during the project letting us know each day they were going to be here and what they were going to get done. The job was completed on time and on budget. There is definitely a reason why Phil is in high demand. I highly recommend Baker Group Basements.

We had asked them to get done on a tight schedule and they met the schedule and did many extras for us without any significant upcharges. We get so many compliments on the basement and it is now our oasis for entertaining and relaxing. He is fantastic at giving us ideas about how to maximize the space. His crews were friendly, professional and meticulous. They were here many times when we were not home and were the most trustworthy group i have ever dealt with. Phil does a great job at communicating and organizing all the various portions of the project.

Phil Baker and the rest of the crew with the Baker Group were amazing! Very nice, straight to the point, professional, punctual, and communicated often. I started working on finishing my basement several months ago. My goal was to finish a bedroom and then complete the rest after that. After I got most of the way through the bedroom, I decided it would take me forever to complete the job. I am getting married in June and didn't need the extra stress. I was very hesitant with hiring someone to do the job since I consider myself pretty handy and like to do things my way. I called Phil and explained to him what I was looking to get done. When he came over, we went over the layout and design. He immediately noticed that my original design cut the basement up too much, and would have violated some building codes, so we worked together on an alternate design. I appreciated that he didn't hold back and told me what he would do. On several occasions he gave me recommendations, including keeping me safe with building codes and electrical codes. Overall, he said I was the customer and he will do what I want, but didn't hold back when necessary. They started the work promptly. The basement is about 1400 sf and the finished job has two rooms, an office area with closet, a large living area, two decent size storage areas, a bathroom with shower, and a brewery/kitchen space. It literally took him and two other guys 20 hours to completely frame the entire basement. They used lasers to make sure everything was lined up correctly. The framing was perfect. Next, Phil hired an electrician to do the electrical work. It took the electrician about 12 hours of work over two days to finish the electrical. Phil and the electrician worked with me every step of the way to determine where I wanted outlets, switches, can lights, and basically the lighting zones should go and how they should be controlled. They did more than I expected in this area. After the electrical work, his crew came in and prepped for drywall. They moved the heating/cooling vents to places that made more sense and added a air return as well. I wasn't expecting that and it turned out to be a bonus for me. This also gave me time to do the plumbing. Finally, he hired a company to do the drywall work. They worked extremely quick and the result is amazing. It took two days to hang 3000 sq ft of drywall. After that, it took one day to tape, I believe 3 days for the mudding, a few hours to do the knockdown ceiling, and a few hours to sand and completely clean up. Overall, the basement looks amazing, the entire experience was amazingly easy and flexible, and the best money I ever spent. Thank you Phil and team! I will definitely recommend you to everyone looking for work to get done.

This is the second major project that Baker Basements have successfully completed for our family. The first being a finished basement completed in 2013. This year he was able to design and execute a remodel of our kitchen from start to finish. His team is comprised of highly skilled individuals who work to achieve the highest standards. Our kitchen looks superb! Phil does a wonderful job creating design details from photos or magazines. The kitchen included custom built-in bookshelves, pantry, kitchen cabinets, custom island, crown moulding, baseboards ect. I was able to purchase all appliances, plumbing fixtures, lighting fixtures and cabinet hardware on my own. Working with Phil allows you to have choices, unlike other large remodel companies. All of our cabinets & drawers are equipped with a "slow close" feature which is a must! Our cabinets are made of of solid wood that is lacquered for durability. Baker Basements & Closets will be our choice for years to come.

Excellent. Phil and his Team exceeded our expectations. They never once over promised and under delivered. Phil's design was excellent- he was great at listening to what we wanted and then designing it to fit our needs. The workmanship by the Team who worked on the job was Great- they were not satisfied with mediocrity. They were very courteous and explained the process along the way. Communication was excellent - we new throughout the remodel what was going to happen next. Phil and his team beat there scheduled finish date by over a week---Which was great with the Holiday upon us. The quote was the price and what we paid- no extras even though I know they did a few things that weren't originally planned. I highly recommend these guys They were great !!

The project went great. I've been using Angie's List for 8 years, and if there was an award for the "best of the best" I would not hesitate to hand that award to the Baker Basement Group. Here?s a few of my thoughts as the job just finished up a few months ago: I got 4 bids on this project, mostly from Angie?s list. Phil?s bid was right in the middle of the pack and felt fair and reasonable for this scope of work. More importantly, he outworked and out hustled the competition to earn my business and trust. It seemed like the rest of the field was just going through the motions. What I saw from the others was: (i) do the least amount of work to get the job; (ii) too busy to answer questions and concerns in a timely manner; (iii) shoddy design-build contracts and paperwork; and (iv) questionable knowledge and experience. What I saw from Phil on my project was: (i) a commitment to design the job exactly the way I wanted it; (ii) a contractor that is flexible, patient and can deal with a picky client like me; (iii) a stand up guy that will quickly fix a project hiccup if and when they occur; (iv) a family man with a responsible crew that I trust to be alone in my house with my wife and small kids; (v) a smart contractor that can solve just about any head scratching problem you will encounter on your job (and you will have these); (vi) a perfectionist that pays attention to every small detail and takes pride in his craftsmanship; (vii) a crew that will keep your house and the job site clean regardless of much construction mess was made during that day; (viii) a contractor with experience doing small, medium, and large scale basement remodels that?s a straight shooter and will talk you off a bad decision cliff if needed (I needed this twice and I?m glad Phil talked some sense into me); (ix) a guy that has all the tools to get the job done right (e.g. CNC machine for custom cabinets); and (x) a solid guy that will bust his rear to make you happy and deliver a high quality project.
Description of Work: Very large basement remodel which included approximately 1,400 square feet of finished space including recreation room, media room, spare bedroom, playroom, fitness room, wet bar, and full bath.

lBaker Group did a fantastic job with our project. Unlike many contractors, Phil responded right away to our calls and emails and was punctual with our bid. We told him our budget and he worked with it and gave us much more than we expected. The crew was great to have in the house, very polite and responsive to any questions or concerns we had. They were also extremely conscientous and had amazing attention to detail, clearly taking great pride in their work and going above and beyond. Our basement is beautiful! We'd hire Baker Group for another project without hesitation. Highly recommend them!

I wholeheartedly recommend Baker Group Basements for any remodeling job! Phil?s group has finished our basement, a large open space, bedroom, bathroom and a storage room; helping us with the design, listening to our needs and recommending great solutions. The project was very tricky due to existing location of HVAC and water heater location. The team was very capable and truly responsive to our interests, ensuring that we were satisfied with the outcome. What truly stands out is their integrity and huge attention to details. Now our basement perfectly matches the rest of the house and is always complimented by our friends and visitors. During the work, there was a small hiccup with paint matching and Phil took extra time and effort (with no additional cost to us) to ensure that the issue was completely resolved. That shows commitment to the client and trustworthiness. While conducting the work they kept the place very clean, always letting us know who and when will be at the house. In summary, they are a great contractor, providing excellent value and quality for the price. Enthusiastic thumbs up!

Phil and his team did a fantastic job. They were always on time, on budget, friendly, communicative, cordial, and informed. After three months of construction on our basement, I was glad to see it was done, but was surprisingly sad to see the guys leave because they had become such a fixture in our house for three months that we really got to know them and were very impressed with their work, as well as them as people. Phil was a good communicator from the very beginning. We chose the Baker Group over lower bids because Phil actually listened to what we said we wanted in the basement and added all of it to the bid, being honest and upfront about the costs from the get go. Our other bids left things off and said we could add them on later which seemed disingenuous and risky. The mistakes and challenging stuff was few and far between, but when they arose, the crew was helpful in figuring out a solution and never once proposed anything which would increase the budget. We had a few odd requests for finishes and structures for our basement, especially in the theater, which were new adventures for the Baker group. Phil did his homework on these things and exceeded our expectations in all aspects of the project. Phil does the cabinetry custom and his work was exceptional. The rooms in the basement are the best rooms in our house and our family has spent many hours since the completion enjoying the space, especially the theater room. The other day my daughter asked when the basement guys were going to come back because she missed them, and that there is the best review I can give. Great people, great service, great final product.
Description of Work: Finished out unfinished basement including a Game space, Play room, poker area, wet bar and home movie theater.

Phil Baker and his crew handled the job fantastically. They always advised their work schedules, were prompt on the days they were scheduled and worked full days. Contractors for the plumbing, painting, wallboard installation, and electrical were also on time and when scheduled. Contractors work was also exceptional. Phil has high standards and expects the same from the contractors he uses and they all delivered. When issues did come up, Phil discussed it with us and we looked at the range of options available before making decisions. Phil and his team did the tile work in the bathroom as well as installing tile floor in parts of the basement. Work was just what we expected. Doors and wood work were all stained by Phil and installed and it all looks great. Phil is skilled in wood working and made a couple of access doors we needed plus a window sill for the egress window. Again, great work! Phil pulled all the necessary permits and worked with the city getting all required sign offs as work was completed. We would recommend Phil Baker and Baker Group Basements to family and friends looking for exceptional work on any remodeling project.
Description of Work: The project was a complete basement finishing. A full bath was added, egress window, steel support beams were added, the space was laid out into a bedroom, full bath, entertainment room, open area and work room.

The Baker a Group helped me find where the leak was coming from and then helped me figure out the best way to fix it. They had to cut out some drywall in my basement, but it was just a small square piece. They immediately found the leak coming from an elbow joint on a leaking drain pipe. They replaced the elbow joint and then patched up my drywall. I had some extra paint so I did the repainting myself.
Description of Work: I had a leaking drain pipe in my basement. They helped me diagnose it and fix the problem on the basement plumbing leak.
Overall, I really liked Phil Baker and his team and I would use him again. We had a big job and lots of moving parts from a scheduling standpoint with a great deal of custom work to be done regarding media center, bathroom, wet bar and egress window and we had him open up the stairway to the basement. A very complex basement finish that Phil admitted that some of the issues he had not specifically ever done for a customer. So, there was a learning curve and he was very responsive and just generally a really great person. Most importantly, he's a man of his word, never nickeled or dimed us with this or that when things changed on the fly and what he routinely does for finishing a basement was done perfectly - i.e closet doors, built ins, basic framing etc.). His sub contractors were good and professional - such as plumbers and electrician (really good). I hired Phil b/c I could tell he did the work - he would be involved. His crew even helped out when we had some ice damming leading to a leak at a window - he never once talked about his crew's time or the cost. In the end - we were on the projected budget!! I have a couple minor criticisms/ issues - some things that should have been anticipated as a problem such as with a custom bathroom (lowered shower ceiling height with a soffit and then not having adequate ventilation for a shower ), floor leveling should be done before starting and some stain matching issues seemed to be avoidable errors, but he did everything to rectify those situations - though a better result would have been had being proactive. Nobody is perfect and we expected some issues as we worked our way through this build. Phil keeps some of his costs down by the customer being their own design agent - picking tile and cabinets etc. This can be a real time commitment. I felt that we were responsible for the creative design elements and unfortunately some design details only come to you when you see things taking shape - once things have taken shape, some design elements can't be added back in - hindsight is 20/20 - I wanted a little more foresight. This leads to a lot of either compromise or leg work to remedy the issue. An even more minor issue for us, we were over on the time to complete our (complicated) project. Honestly - I could care less, but that's the fact (12 weeks was 18 weeks by the time we finished). In general for those thinking about a big remodel, the 3 issues to think about - dust, dust, dust - think ahead and protect your stuff, furnace etc. I knew better and failed to do a good enough job from the start so it's a big clean-up at the end.
Description of Work: Finished about 750 sqft of an unfinished basement - with bathroom, bedroom w/ egress window, wet bar and TV room.
