Description of Work: We began our remodel process in April 2016 and met with Phil Baker Jr to discuss custom cabinetry for our kitchen and master bath. Phil was very helpful in the layout and made numerous suggestions of how to best use our space. The process was seamless. I am absolutely thrilled with the finished product and professionalism that Phil provided for us. I highly recommend Phil and his team.

Description of Work: Outstanding work. We gave him creative license to repurpose some wood from an antique closet we removed. The custom work he did made the bathroom look like it had been built with our 1800's home. This company does all the work on our home. Trustworthy with top quality workmanship.

They were on time; they did a great job of explaining what they could do, along with examples of their previous work and they were just forth right and above code with everything that they discussed with me.
Description of Work: I used Baker Group Basements to get an estimate for basement remodeling. They did not do the work for me, because I have not decided on that yet.

We selected Baker Group Basements to finish our 900 sq. ft. basement nine months ago. We had an excellent experience with Phil Baker and his team. The Baker Group did such a great job on our basement that I use them from time-to-time for other smaller projects around my house. Baker Group just re-caulked around my first and second story windows. They identified and fixed a water intrusion issue I was having on my two-story wall of windows. They fixed some outdoor lighting that needed to be repaired. They also shored up my concrete front porch, which had started to settle. Phil Baker is someone that I will always keep in my contacts list. He's honest, does excellent work and is simply a great guy.

Went extremely smooth from start to finish. Agreed upon schedule was adhered to. Phil demonstrated flexibility with regard to changes and dealt skillfully with unexpected issues which arose. Phil and his team arrived on time each day and completed the scheduled work as planned. This resulted in an interrupted workflow with little " down" time in the process. Phil and his crew respected our privacy, managed dust, etc. and took measures to protect other parts of our home from construction issues. The team was friendly and helpful and we felt very comfortable having them in our home. The final product exceeded our expectations. The new room is beautiful and we could not be more pleased with the service!!
Description of Work: Phil Baker converted part of our unfinished basement into a finished room. Drywall, electric, lighting , insulation, woodwork, etc. From the outset Phil delivered with regard to timing and quality. Schedule was met, start times were on-time. Phil also custom designed a cabinet to house wine racks and a wine cooler. This piece without question exceeded our expectations. Permits and inspections went smoothly.

We were blown away by his generosity of time and knowledge. He really did help us avoid some potentially big mistakes. We were very pleased with his willingness to share his knowledge and resources with us.
Description of Work: Came to provide an estimate for finishing our basement. It turned out our time frames weren't compatible as he was booked up until February for a job our size!! However, he went with us though our basement and discussed issues he thought we would face and gave us recommendations for subcontractors since we will now undertake the bulk of the work ourselves.

I couldn't be more pleased with Baker Group Basements or the final product. Phil and his team were in our house for three months due to the size and detail of the project. His team always took care of my home while they were working. Phil was a very good communicator during the entire process. I always knew what they were working on, the upcoming schedule and who was in my home. Phil gave me advanced notice when I needed to make a decision or purchase things like bathroom fixtures, which we specifically wanted to select ourselves. Phil and team often did little extras during the construction process without having to be asked that really added value and sets our basement apart. Phil Baker and his team are the most courteous and trustworthy contractors I've ever worked with. Their team is very hard working, often staying late or coming on a weekend to complete a task. What I appreciate most about Phil and BGB is their willingness to make the customer happy. In any project of this magnitude, there will be things that don't go as planned. In the few minor instances where we ran into issues, Phil addressed the matter immediately and made sure we were happy with the change. He and his team were always willing to do whatever it took within reason to make it right. His team's attention to detail and quality craftsmanship made our basement look amazing. After seeing their work, two different friends of ours have hired Baker Group Basements to finish their lower levels. I couldn't write a better endorsement than that. We will miss Phil Baker and the BGB team. They were a wonderful part of my family's life for three months. Thanks for everything Phil. Keep up the great work. Andrew Wehr 740-549-1010
Description of Work: Phil and the Baker Groups Basements (BGB) team transformed 900 sq. ft. of unfinished basement into a wonderful living space. Prior to selecting a contactor, my wife and I interviewed four basement finishing companies. We were very impressed with Phil Baker, both professionally and personally. We pretty much knew what we wanted, but Phil complemented our plans with ideas of his own. He suggested, low priced-additions that really gave our basement character. We were glad when his (free) quote came in at or below the mid-point price of the other firms we interviewed. The quote was very detailed, which allowed us to better understand exactly what we would receive. BGB finished four rooms in our basement: (1) a full kitchen with sink and dishwasher, (2) a movie room, (3) a full bathroom with custom built, hand-tiled shower, and (4) a kids' play area.

I could not have been more pleased with the outcome of our basement. I met Mr. Baker at a home show and was impressed with his knowledge and attitude. I had requested bids from other contractors and once they bid the job, they never followed up, so I gave Phil a chance and he followed up exactly when he said he would and met me to inspect the property and discuss what I had in mind for the basement. He was not pushy and offered some ideas that I had not considered. He then came back and quoted me a price and after some more discussion I accepted his bid and signed the contract. He outlined the steps and the time necessary for these steps with me so we would know what to expect. In the times we live in, I was very impressed that he nor his crew were ever late. I also was impressed that I never had any fear of leaving them in the house with my 3 year old granddaughter, my wife, or my wife's mother as I thoroughly trusted them. They always were very polite and friendly with all of us. Everyday when they left they cleaned up and left it as clean as a construction site can be. I was so impressed with them that I offered Mr. Baker the opportunity to bring potential customers through our basement remodel project during all phases including completion and still have that offer extended to him. One of the other benefits he provided was his contacts in the building industry so we were able to save money on items that were needed to complete the project. Since the completion, a couple of items needed repairing and Mr. Baker was very quick to get out here and repair. This almost sounds like I am related to Mr. Baker, but I am not and he was a perfect stranger when we met, but besides him doing an excellent job for me, I now also consider him a friend and I would highly recommend him to anyone that needs quality work completed at a fair price.
Description of Work: Complete remodel of our basement, which included electrical, plumbing, HVAC, reinforcing beams, flooring and textured ceilings. Our remodel was to create a living space for my parents if they needed to come and live with us.

The Baker Group Basements finished our basement in 30 days! They did a wonderful job. They started the job and worked every weekday until it was done ? no delays. They told us in advance when they would arrive and what they would be doing for the day. Every inspection passed first time. They went above and beyond our expectations. We included hanging drywall but left unfinished on the workshop/storage side of the basement in the contract. But they actually taped, spackled, painted and added baseboard to the ?unfinished? side of our basement without charging any extra. Phil Baker is a man of integrity ? he does what he says he will do ? on-time and on budget. No games, no gimmicks, no b.s. He was flexible in negotiating the contract, not insisting that we sign his standard agreement. He was very open and accommodating to our requests. We highly recommend Phil Baker and The Baker Group Basements!

Phil's team earned my trust and respect by: - efficiently managing the multi-entity building permit and approvals required by my community, i.e., City of Dublin, Muirfield Village HOA, and Weybridge Village Homeowners HOA. - making 'change orders' easy, e.g., addition of extra grab bars in my Mother's bath- ensuring - communicating and keeping me updated on work flow plans, supplier orders, etc. - making recommendations on products, re: porcelain Vs ceramic tile for floors and walls. By explaining the pros and cons of any materials or construction ideas I was considering. - working out challenges/problems with suppliers - their selection of sub-contractors, e.g. plumbers, electricians, and carpet guys who were experts in their fields and courteous, and who did their work correctly the first time (no rework!) - cleaning up - as much as possible - after each day's work . By making sure there was a clear walking path in the garage for me or my Mother and her walker. This really made a positive difference in living through this big and messy project (drywall is really messy). - their quality assurance processes, e.g., Phil noticed a tile that he described as 'popping' - it looked fine to me. He had it removed and carefully re-installed. Even to my untrained eye, I could see the difference - and the entry way with it's complicated design - mosaic and S curve - looks perfect and is there to stay. - honesty, there were no surprises and the payment schedule was as agreed. Phil's team ordered and replaced all the windows in the house. When his company realized a savings due to a manufacturer's promotion, he passed the savings along to me. He did not have to do this - that was not part of our agreement. -reusing materials whenever possible, e.g., toilets, vanities, woodwork, etc. This was practical, eco-friendly and cost-effective -every member of the Baker team was punctual: Craig, Jen, Mike, Patrick, Scotty, Tommy and Phil. AND each one tried patiently to discourage my pekingese from eating drywall debris! - the Baker Group's reputation with building inspectors is excellent. Many inspectors (framing, electrical, plumbing) offered compliments on the work they completed - which just bolstered my already high opinion of the team. - delivering a fabulous finished product the exceeds my expectations, and perhaps more importantly, my Mother's expectation. The traffic pattern works better than I had hoped, the wood work looks as though it is part of the original build, the older woodwork was touched up to look as good as the new woodwork, the drywall work is excellent - you'd never know a wall had been added or changed, the tile floors are great, the custom baths are beautiful and functional, the kitchen and basement remodels exceed my expectation, the new windows look better and qualify for tax energy credit. To conclude: Phil Baker and the entire Baker Team have earned my highest recommendation. They were great! Everything a consumer could want in a contractor: Great Value. The next time I have a need for a contractor - it's definitely the Baker Group! I hope you give them a call too!
Description of Work: In January 2011, I met Phil through a Value Pak coupon offer. I was impressed with his timely and professional responses to my requests for estimates and work scheduling to tear up existing flooring and lay tile in my kitchen, utility room and 2 bathrooms. Phil and Tommy, a member of Phil's team, showed up on time and completed the work as promised, "you'll love it, Mary!" He was right! I also appreciated polite and professional way Phil and Tommy communicated with me and each other, as well as suppliers and clients on the phone. With this experience in mind, it was easy to select Baker Group for my next big project. That was major changes to my home to allow my 88 year old mother to live here safely and comfortably while preserving some privacy for each of us. Phil came up with a plan to remodel the home and meet my goals. His plan included creation of a 'mother's suite' by restructuring the guest bath, hallway, guest bedroom , office area and entryway. My office area (now Mom's sitting room) was relocated to the basement. Today, where then once were separate rooms/hallways, my mother enjoys a connected and private area consisting of a custom ADA compliant bathroom with a beautiful tiled bench with grab bars, bedroom with glass panel doors through her sitting room which now has matching glass paneled french doors leading to common areas of the main house (LR, DR, KIT, Utility Room, Deck/Patio, 1/2 Bath, Entry Way, Garage, Basement. The glass paneled doors allow light to easily cross-illuminate her entire living area.

The actual work began on July 5th and was completed by August 5th. Phil?s crew members arrived punctually each day and cleaned up after each day?s work session. Time was scheduled effectively, and each stage of the job had realistic time goals for completion. Phil kept in daily contact so that we would know exactly what would be accomplished each day. This company is committed to excellence, and the quality of their work reflects high professional standards. The Baker Group strives for perfection. Phil continually put in little extra touches, paying attention to detail, ensuring that the work had a professional appearance and that the room looked like a total package when it was completed. All inspections were passed for the electric, plumbing, and building codes. In today?s world of minimal customer service, we really appreciated having peace of mind that the job was completed right. One of the determining factors in choosing the Baker Group was their insistence on obtaining permits and having inspections. The job was well done, the quality beyond normal expectations, completed on time, and looks like an integral part of the entire house. All of the individuals in Phil?s crew were courteous, polite, and professional with every person working for the Baker Group demonstrating exceptional mastery of professional pride and skill. Phil is one of the nicest men you could hire to do any type of work in your home. He displays an energizing optimism along with a pleasant, always cheerful disposition. You will always appreciate his harmonious and cooperative spirit to accomplish objectives. He is always available to answer any questions or concerns and is willing to get the correct answers if he doesn?t know. The Baker Group company is a class act! ***We would like to nominate The Baker Group for the Page of Happiness Award. We are most certainly happy with our new rooms!
Description of Work: After attending the 2011 Columbus Home Improvement Show and interviewing 6 different companies, we hired Phil Baker and the Baker Group Basement Remodeling company to makeover our unfinished basement. We wanted a large room free of any obstructions for a 12 foot quilting frame, and an area for art and fabric painting, as well as leaving an everyday section for usual basement items. Phil clearly pinpointed the areas that needed to be improved and created a design that accommodated each and every need, along with a very competitive price for the basement transformation. Baker Group relocated the existing centered main waste stack to another area allowing us the 12’ x 24’ area the frame would require. To accomplish this, a portion of the cement floor had to be dug up, additional pipe laid, and then the floor re-cemented. The entire basement was rewired for extra outlets, a dropped ceiling installed with 12 fluorescent light fixtures, stud work positioned, walls insulated, mold resistant drywall installed, walls painted and the room trimmed out. Baker Group also closeted in the sump pump and relocated the central vacuum system, to include a closet, so that we would get the most useable space. All of the insulation around the air vents was provided extra protection and an extra air vent was added. The stairs were painted white to cover the original basement paint in order to ready the steps for carpeting. The stairs were then trimmed with stained wood and the glass block windows were trimmed out. The floor was then carpeted. In our new painting area, Jason made a custom set of three cabinets each containing 4 drawers and installed a sink along with a counter top. Additionally, extra outlets and lights were added to this area. Two pocket doors were then installed between the finished room and the painting section, one on each side of the stairs.

The project went VERY well. We're thrilled with our new basement. Phil excels at problem solving, and his goal was to get as much usable space for us as possible out of the basement area we had to work with. Because he does both the estimates and the work himself, he was able to tell us exactly what could and couldn't be done with the space that we had. And, frankly, he made sure that there was a way to do whatever we wanted to have done. He worked proactive to anticipate problems that might come up, figured out how to make changes to the plan to satisfy city building codes, and spent his own time on evenings and weekends finishing up the details of the job (e.g., staining doors and stair treads) to be sure that the work would be completed on time. Phil, Mike, and Eric practically lived in our house for three weeks, and they were great guests. They showed up on time EVERY DAY, cleaned up the work space EVERY DAY, and even entertained our kids by letting them watch the work in progress (as long as it was safe to do so.) Our three year old daughter proudly shows off the access panel that she painted "all by herself" (with Phil's help) and still asks when they're coming back to "play" in the basement with her again. We've hired a lot of people to help with various aspects of our house, but Phil, Mike and Eric are the first we've ever sincerely missed when the project was completed. Not only do they do fantastic, high-quality work, on-time and on-budget, but they're simply great guys.
Description of Work: Phil, Mike, and Eric turned the 560 square foot unfinished basement in our 1923 Clintonville home into gorgeous living space for our family. The project took three weeks from start to finish (after the appropriate permits were acquired). They prepped the space by tearing out old walls, doors, and cabinets, framed three rooms (and several storage areas) with steel studs, added insulation and mold-resistant drywall (including a drywall ceiling), painted, and trimmed the rooms. They also put in new, beautiful oak stair treads and hand rails and boxed in the glass block windows in the basement with gorgeous oak trim. Phil supervised the re-routing of components of our HVAC system, as well as our main gas line, in order to create a cleaner ceiling line. He also supervised the installation of 10 can lights throughout the basement living areas and 3 simpler light fixtures in storage areas. He met with city inspectors and ensured that all of the work that his crew and the sub-contractors did was up to code.
