Description of Work: One of the doors in the rental condo that I own had a stone go through the glass of a non-standard size sliding glass door. There are two sliding glass doors so I decided to get both of these old doors replaced I had contacted Zen Windows in the past. The owner responds to quote requests in a few minutes after sending an e-mail and will give an online quote after viewing pictures of the window. The installer came out and measured. The doors were ordered. I was contacted again when the doors were completed. The installer came out and replaced the doors. | |Here is what my renter wrote to me in a text: "I never thought ever in my life I would find a door so beautiful. They're great. They did a really great job and they definitely liven the place up some. As far as I can tell the doors are perfect. They did do a good job. They didn't damage anything in the process and they cleaned up well. It took them a while but what do I know about door installation. Both locks work and the glass looks great." | |Obviously, all went well and my renters are happy. The other renter thought I should have simply replaced the broken door but was very pleased after both doors were replaced.

 + -1 moreI chose this company because the owner came to speak with us. He demonstrated the product. He explained the warranty. These windows are made to order. Every window was perfect. The turn around time was only two weeks. The installation went perfect and they did not leave any mess. Everyone that dealt was a true professional and I am a stickler for perfection. You don't pay until you are satisfied and the warranty is amazing. The price was highly competitive and the new windows look great. It was very easy to use this company. It was refreshing and they are straight forward.

 + -1 moreI found them on Angie s List and my experience with them was poor. They were more than two hours late every time they came out. Since I work full time and had to take off work, this was a problem. One of the windows was not even close to the correct size so I had to take off work specifically for that. In addition, it turned out the installers forgot to nail a lot of the window supports in. Instead of using one large piece for these window supports, they used several pieces and glued them in. I walked out and was able to pull them right out. Ultimately, they came out 5 times to get it right. I had to take 5 days off work as well and one of these days they were a 100% no show. My experience with the sales staff was different than with the installers.

 + 0 moreThey came out to install the windows. They had a little sales pitch; all they said was the quality of the windows. The price of the windows was excellent. I would recommend this company. The only problem I had was they didn't wash the windows after they were done.

 + -1 moreI want the product that I paid for not a product that is failing with the confidence that the product will continue to perform through the years.
Description of Work: We had 17 windows replaced along with they vinyl casements. The manufacturer of the windows is Thermal Industries. Zen is the installation company. The lifetime warranty is applicable on all labor, material, glass, and screen. Windows were installed 02-07 and we've had problems since the installation. There are structural problems with windows bowing and sagging. Problems with the glass, problems with the lowee finish, and dirt between the glass layers. The problems with the installation from Zen: windows not plumb, nails are popping through the aluminum, adhesive left on the vinyl (which will not come off without using a chemical which breaks down the caulk)

 + -1 moreThey were terrific. Dan the owner arrived on time for our initial appointment. He would have been done in 10 minutes if we hadn't asked question. But, he walked us through his products and we felt very comfortable with him. We had him place the order that day, since his process were far less than other vendors. The windows arrived 2 weeks later and the installer called to schedule installation. They arrived on time and I went to work. When I came home the new windows were installed and everything was clean. They did a great job. There was one small spot where caulking was separated and I called the installer and he came back the next day to take care of it.

 + -1 moreWe chose Zen windows because the price was by far the lowest estimate and the product was high quality (not the $169 windows that require you to add on a bunch to make it a good window). We have now had our windows for a year and have found them to be excellent in terms of aesthetics, sound proofing, and weather resistance. Dan Wolt is easy to get a hold of, the crew was timely and professional, and we have been very satisfied with the service. Plus, Zen doesn't try to con you into buying a bunch of windows you can't afford at once, they have been very receptive to replacing a few at a time and have treated no differently than they would have if we had replaced everything at once. That is why we have called them for work on five separate occasions (and will continue to do so in the future).
Description of Work: We have replaced a total of 16 windows in three stages (mostly white vinyl double hung, but three oak windows were just installed in the living room). Zen has also coordinated the installation of a steel security door and our seamless gutters.

 + -1 moreSO HAPPY! We used Zen Windows in the fall to do our windows. We had a great experience with Dan and contacted him and six other roofing and siding companies after the fall 2006 hail storm. Dan was the lowest priced and most professional again! The crew was led by Neil, who had handled our window installation as well. Neil, Mike (who fixed the windows) and the roofing crew were hardworking, easy to communicate with in person and on the phone. As always, Dan was very accessible for questions via e-mail and phone. The roofers were polite, helpful, respectful (no loud music, no cursing- we've had this happen with many of the neighbors crews). The guys were in and out in three days! Our neighbors have had a really bad time and long drawn out projects. Not us! The roof looks great, and the windows are like new. Mike fixed the windows and went above and beyond what we were expecting. We paid nothing until the job was complete. Thanks so much for a job well done! Zen is the best!

 + -1 moreDan was very friendly. He came out, showed us his product, and gave us a quote. He didn't pressure us at all. His quote was the lowest. The reason that we didn't go with him was the product. We preferred a product that one of his competitors had. Dan only carries one brand of window.

 + -1 morePrice was in line with other estimates. Zen was able to get the job done much sooner. I prefer Zen's lighter colored screens and that the screen covers only half the window (can be moved up or down). The window is designed so it may be painted or stained. Painting was very tedious and I would just go with a white interior finish next time and forget the painting. I was a bit disappointed with the one window I stained. It did not absorb the stain very well. Friendly staff. Will call them when we're ready to replace more windows.

 + -1 moreWOW! We love our new windows! What a great experience from start to finish. Dan, the owner impressed us so much. He was five minutes early to each appointment. He did not do the typical sales-y thing with us. He gave us a great price on the windows. He communicated with us by phone and via e-mail. He has a Blackberry, so all e-mails are responded to within minutes! His installer Neil came out, the same day we had Dan out for the initial estimate, as we had some questions regarding the thickness of the walls. We were not pressured into getting the most expensive double hung windows. Both men were honest and upfront in what our needs for the new windows were. Mike installed the windows & did a great job. We did not pay until the work was completed and we had the windows in 2 weeks! We had 4 different companies from AL come out for estimates & Zen Windows was the right choice when it came to pricing, professionalism, timeliness & also personality. We will use Zen again in the future!

I decided to go with the other company because of price and my other windows were capped the same way. I was very impressed with Dan's professionalism and willingness to help. He practices everything he claims on his website. A great guy! I will recommend Zen Windows to anyone looking for an honest contractor.
