Three heavily weather-damaged 3rd floor transom windows were allowing water/weather to enter the house and required replacing. Zen Window's owner patiently and thoroughly walked us through the options available to us, clearly articulating the process from initial assessment and measurement through installation and follow up. Zen asked us to inspect the windows they delivered prior to installation to confirm that they met our specifications, which they did. The removal of the damaged windows and installation of the new windows and sill went very smoothly. At the end of the job, there was no mess left for us to clean, wipe or vacuum. It was as if no work had been done and the new windows and sills simply materialized out of thin air. Upon completion, Zen offered to paint the new sills free of charge. Excellent experience. Excellent product.

I called Zen windows for estimate after reading reviews for window replacement companies. Dan promptly followed up with an email quote and then followed up with a visit to show me sample windows. I went with Zen because of price and reviews. Once the windows arrived installation was scheduled. Installation went smoothly, the team was professional and courteous. I will use them again for replacement of my downstairs windows.

The owner came to discuss the work to be done. He was prompt, thorough and informative and made it clear that I could call him any time if I had questions. After I purchased this special offer, I had to have surgery and two hospital readmissions, delaying the window installation. The installer was very accommodating and arranged a time that was convenient for me. The installation went smoothly and I was very pleased with the final product. I was shown how to operate the new windows, and was asked to go around with the installer to inspect them. The clean-up was thorough and timely. I would definitely use their services again!

Very well. They took out the old windows and replaced with the new windows. They did their job very proffesionally. They took down the blinds and window shades and replaced them after the job was done. When they took out the large picture window which was very fragile, they did it neatly and safely without braking it or cutting themselves. They called me before they came each day. It took three (3) day to do the inatallation. I was shown how to open, close, the windows including the safety latches, and how to open them to wash. It did snow one day and it did not bother them. If I had another house, I would use them again.

There was some delay in getting the Big Deal window measured and ordered but the delay was handled very professionally and compensated with better pricing on the other windows. All windows are now ready for installation after the holydays. I am looking forward to a very positive experience with the installation.

We had 7 windows installed in our bedroom. Neil the estimator and quality control guy is great. He is responsive and punctual. The windows arrived exactly when Dan said they would. And Mike the installer was also punctual, personal and does quality work. He installed all windows on day one and returned the next day to complete the exterior trim work. His detailed trim work is really high quality work. Zen is the only replacement window company we will use.

Zen windows had a "big deal" coupon for 5 windows which is what drew me to look specifically at their company. I looked at the reviews for others and did some checking around (general web searchs and the BBB). Zen had the most consistently good reviews, the most reasonable prices (without any strings attached or prices too good to be true) and offered a great basic white window with the option to upgrade if I wanted. One thing I really liked about Zen is their way of doing business. Their website doesn't scream at me to buy their windows nor do they blow their own horn about how much money they make and how big their facilities are... all of which add to overhead which is then either passed onto the customer or otherwise absorbed (i.e. using cheap materials). The windows they installed were made by a smaller concern - so I wasn't paying for a lot of marketing either. They're good windows that Zen buys and then they install them for a reasonable cost. If you have an issue - you can call the owner who will go out of his way to make it right. I emailed Zen from the Angies List contact page and received a reply from Dan Woldt (the owner) within 15 minutes and then a phone call within 30 minutes after that. I explained the current state of our windows and what I wanted to replace them with. Dan listened, asked questions, and did not pressure me one iota to do any upgrades. He sent me two estimates via email within an hour after we spoke on the phone. Both were reasonable and well within what i had found listed for other companies. I opted to just to the upstairs windows this go around as my basement needs some prerequisite changes prior to getting new windows. Dan and company kept me informed at every step along the way... When it was time to come measure, Neil (Dan's associate) showed up on time and he was in and out in less than 10 minutes. When the windows were ordered, I got an email. When they were in production, I got an email. When they arrived at Zen, I got an email and a call to schedule the install. Zen's installer arrived on time. He came in, verified measurements, brought in only the tools he needed. Took care not to make a mess.. and cleaned up anything he did happen to do. Very polite "salt of the earth" type guy... who also happened to be a master at his trade - for nearly 30 years I believe. The work inside was the most rapid - it's the outside work that took the time. Every piece of window channel that the installer put up was hand cut, hand bent, and carefully installed. He was very quiet and very methodical. We hardly knew he was still out there working. The finished product was trimmed and channeled PROPERLY (by providing rain water an exit path, not by slapping on a thick bead of caulking against the siding). Once complete, we took a "grand tour" of all the windows so I could comment and view the work before we settled up the bill. I was very impressed by the work... especially when compared to our other replacement windows (which were done over 15 years ago using the thick bead of caulk method). Inside out the windows looked great, were installed with a fantastic degree of skill, and functioned the way I expected. Considering I opted for just the most basic of windows, I felt the Zen team took care of the whole process with the same degree of care and professionalism they'd offer for any level of window purchased. Kudos to Dan et al for keeping it simple, but providing the things that count the most - Communication, skilled installation, and a reasonable cost. - As a side note - when I was talking to Neil about the installer (wish I could remember his name) - Neil told me that if I liked his window job, I oughtta see his siding work... I guess siding is where he really shows off his mad skills :-)
Description of Work: Zen replaced three windows in my house. All were the original circa 1964 double pane aluminum deals and most were falling apart. Zen also gave me an estimate for some additional (basement) windows.

Hiring Zen Windows for this project was a good decision. It was time to replace windows in several rooms of our house. The windows were original to the structure and had aged to the point where they were letting out a considerable amount of heat each Winter. An hour or so (can't recall exactly, but it wasn't long) after I pre-purchased the six windows via the Angie's List "Big Deal," Dan Wolt reached out to me by email. This was a Sunday evening so Dan's contact came as a complete but welcome surpise. We exchanged emails wherein we arranged a day/time for one his team to come out the house to take measurements. I think the gentleman's name was John. He arrived on the agreed upon day just as planned. Very friendly. Very quick yet precise. He came in, took his measurements, explained the work that would be done in replacing the window, and answered all of my questions. The windows had to be built and so that would take time. As that was being done, Dan stayed in touched throughout. It was good to know that he was keeping an eye on the progress of the project. Once the windows were ready for installation, Dan contacted me to arrange a day/time for his crew to come out. They arrived right on time and "got right to it." Great guys. Personable. Quick and efficient. They removed and replaced each window in turn, cleaning each area as they went along. They answered my questions, instructed me on what they were doing at each stage in the process and why. It was good to watch and learn. Once the set of windows was installed, the crew chief showed me how to open the windows properly and manipulate the screen (sounds strange, but this was required ----- our former windows were dated and this new set had features the other set did not). The windows are an exact fit and they look great. We can tell that house is warmer though we know the air heating unit is not activating as frequently. So, we are sure that this will be reflected in our next elecricity bill. We are very happy with Dan and his Zen Windows team. When it comes time to replace additional windows, we will be getting in touch with them again.

Overall it went well. The install crew was awesome. They made the last three days as easy on my family as possible. I can't say enough about the professionalism and great attitude of the installers. I would say the biggest negative was that the expectations were not set correctly with us. The off-color trim was a big surprise. Also, the crew manager did not show up even though we asked to speak with him twice. He did not inspect the work. If you are going to say that you will show up, then show up!
Description of Work: Just had a bunch of windows installed through these guys. The install crew was awesome. They were very courteous and detail oriented. The workmanship was very good. That was the positive. The negative was that I felt the sales person was over the top. The windows that were sold to us did not match our trim. To be fair, this was my first windows replacement experience, so maybe it wasn't going to match exactly no matter what we picked. Both him and the install manager did not show up at the end to inspect the work, even though they said they would. I am not that impressed with the quality of the product. Overall, I am not sure if I will use them again.

Our initial meeting with Dan (owner) went fine. Dan was friendly and answered any questions we had. We had also met with multiple competitors during the same period to get a good idea of window quality and price. After comparing quality and cost, we decided to go with LARMCO Windows and signed a contract with them. When we told Dan our decision, he lowered his price and told us that he could get us the exact same brand and model window LARMCO offered if we backed out of our contract with LARMCO. We trusted Dan on his offer and broke off our contract with LARMCO. One week later, Dan told us that he was not going to be able to get us the window model he promised because the manufacturer would not sell to him. We moved passed this issue and decided to continue with Dan and a different window manufacturer and model (Vista Windows). Once we decided on the new window model, we started working with Dan's installer, Neil. Neil was always very friendly and helpful. The entire installation went smoothly. The crew they hired did a good job. They removed and installed the windows without issues and cleaned up after themselves. Two of the windows had crooked grids within the glass. I brought this up to Dan and Neil and Neil brought out replacement windows a couple weeks later. When the windows arrived, none of windows had NFRC stickers. NFRC stickers list the manufacturer, describes the product, and includes ratings for energy performance characteristics (U-factor, etc.). Dan originally said he would bring by the stickers personally. Over the next 6 months I had to call Dan and Neil at least every two weeks to find out when they were bringing by the stickers. Each time I was told they were going to bring them by or mail them. Dan said he sent the stickers but we never received them. We did finally receive the stickers about a year after install.

The salesman for Zen windows was the first salesman I had seen. He was so sure that I would choose his, he stated "No matter how much you like our windows, I don't want you to decide or buy today. I want you to look at some of the others and compare. Then when you know that we have the best, call me". He was knowledgeable, both product-wise and technically; and instead of telling me why he couldn't do something, he told me he could find a way to get it done. He said he could get the small custom windows in the kitchen made for me by a third-party manufacturer, and he did. He said they could make my bay window, even if it was oversized, and they did. He returned my calls promptly, and kept me in the loop at all times. They had a local contractor come in and do the work, and he was excellent. He arrived on time, was proficient in what he did, and was neat. When he completed the job, you would never have known he had been there. He even found a few problems with the roofing work that had been done previously and pointed it out. They gave me an estimate of being done in two days (not counting the bay, which arrived two weeks later), and they were done on exactly time. They did all of the haul away, and picked up every scrap in the yard. I paid approximately $9,200.00 for the job. Initially, that did not include the bay window, which was estimated at almost $2,000.00 by itself. When I was undecided as to whether I wanted to give the green light on the purchase, the salesman called and said the company would include the bay window for that same price, as an incentive to seal the deal. I paid an extra $150.00 or so for the oak trim kit for the bay window, instead of the standard pine. The contractor installed that, too, and did a magnificent job. It was perfect. Our local "Mega-window store" wanted $15,000.00 for the same job, except that wouldn't have included the small custom windows, and they said they couldn't even make the large bay window at that size, for any price. They said I would have to have the window opening resized to make it work, at my expense. It's been a few years since I dealt with them, but if the work quality and standards remain unchanged, I would certainly be glad to do business with them again.
Description of Work: I had 27 vinyl windows replaced, which included 2 custom small windows of approximately 12x30 above the kitchen counters, and most importantly, I replaced the garden (bay-style) window in the kitchen. It is an oversized window that is almost seven feet long. Champion windows in Cincinnati could not even make one for me in that size, and argued with me that my window was not even that large. The front 14 windows were all double-pane, double-hung windows. These included internal grids and a custom size (not a 50/50 split, but a 40/60 we had requested, on the windows). The 10 windows at the rear of the house (which faces a fairly busy street) were triple-pane, double-hung windows, also with grids and a 40/60 split. There was no extra charge for the grids or the custom window size for any of the windows. The Bay window was double-pane, and custom-sized, with a crank-out window on either side of the window.

Dan was really great about being in and out with his quote, showing us the window he was going to use, and communicating quickly when we had questions after his initial visit. The installers were very professional and friendly. The only minor issue we had was about payment. Make sure you clarify how you're expecting to pay when you order the windows. They were very understanding and accommodating about the issue, though. The windows look great, and I'm very pleased with my experience!

I really liked the Zen method of sales. Replacement windows are a cooker business with a lot of companies selling the same or similar product. Zen's price was among the best, there product was excellent and they did a good installation job. I've moved, but I would highly recommend them. I think they have since expanded their scope of services. I would project they do those well too.

Of the four estimates we received, Mr. Dan Wolt was the most professional, least intrusive, and berst dressed. He was easy to work with, and once we selected Zen Windows, the product was delivered in the exact trime frame promised, and the installation was performed as promised.....flawlessly. We are extremely pleased. I have already referred one total home window replacement job to Dan, and they are just as pleased.
