This job did not go well at all. Aaron was slow to return my calls and emails. The Woodmode test door that I paid for turned out to be a 4 inch by 4 inch piece of sample wood not a real door. Aaron never returned my emails regarding ordering a new quartz countertop for this kitchen remodel and hence I ended up pricing my own out. Aaron had agreed to come on site bringing the Woodmode people to measure the doors and drawers for this project the week on October 1, 2013. However he never showed up and never emailed or phoned to explain why. When I called him 10/2/13 to ask him when he planned to show up he emailed me that they referred me to a distributor in the Cincinnati area. After working with the Cab shop for three months in trying to get new doors they finally informed me providing replacement doors for woodmode cabinets was not within their scope of abilities even though they are the only woodmode dealer in the columbus area.
Description of Work: i contacted the cabinet shop in july 2013 regarding replacing all the woodmode doors in my kitchen with a different style. I selected a new shaker style door and paid to have a test door made

I phoned the Cabinet Shop and had a nice conversation with a designer about my parent's large home addition/kitchen remodel about an hour and fifteen minutes away where they were working with a local contractor. They had already been to the local big box stores and had several iterations of a design consultation there. The woman at Lowe's had provided great customer service, but they had run up against a lack of high-end cabinetry at Lowe's and were hoping for a bit more imagination in the design and island. I shared with the designer some of the specifics and asked if my parents could come in on Saturday. He said they could certainly come on Saturday, but he forewarned that he wouldn't be there, it would be short-staffed and busy. He mentioned how many designs he was currently working and how The Cabinet Shop would be short-staffed the following week due to national training, so the design might take a while. He said he would waive the $350.00 design fee. I sent him the design from Lowe's in advance. While at the store that Saturday, my parents found exactly what they were looking for in terms of quality- they really liked the Cabinets. Even though the rep was busy, she clearly didn't know anything about the situation and said that if they wanted a design they would have to pay a $350.00 design fee. They were fairly happy with what they were seeing at the store and expecting that either they would purchase or they anticipated that they would be getting a nice design for their expense in the less than likely event they did not purchase cabinets. Following their visit they received an email with the design. From their perspective it really didn't take into account what they liked and had picked out and had shared with the saleslady, and it wasn't much different from the design from Lowe's, at all (only very minor variations). They were looking for and quot;insight into room layoutand quot; that the brochures touted. They also believe that the cabinets used in the design were not what they had picked out, from a quality, design, and color perspective. The designer never phoned to follow up - to either confirm my parents received the designs, nor to find out what they thought of them. I phoned the designer to share my concerns. He listened politely, clarified the cabinets he used were based on paperwork my parents filled out (but my parents don't remember filling anything out - perhaps he was looking at things from the wrong customer). He apologized about the busyness of the store (the least of our worries). I ended the conversation by telling him my parents liked the cabinet quality they saw, but had not experienced much personalized service to date. They were still without a solution to their cabinet problem and were out $350 to a business where they liked the product but didn't feel the service was strong. He then said, and quot;well they can call back and we can go through additional iterationsand quot;. I hung up less than positive with the conversation. I then phoned my mother back to let her know that I had followed up with The Cabinet Shop, to share what he had discussed with me, and to see how interested she was in continuing to work the design. She likes the cabinets she saw in the shop quite a bit more than anything she has seen elsewhere, but she was still concerned about service moving forward. She then reiterated her disappointment that they paid the $350 design fee that Saturday thinking they would receive the personal service that they saw in the brochures. At the very least, they thought after they visited, it would have been nice for the rep to follow up with them directly for a quick 10 minute phone conversation to talk about what they had seen. They never got a phone call before the designer designed anything to say, and quot;now that you have seen things, what specifically were you looking for.and quot; The design they received via email did not meet their expectations and what they had communicated. My mother acknowledged that perhaps she was confused about the level of cabinets that were used in the design, but that all along they wanted white, so she wasn't sure where the dark colors were coming from. Again, they were disappointed at the lack of communication from the start of the project. It would have been nice if someone had followed up from the design to say- did you receive the design, did you like it, is there anything we can explain for you? All in all, they have received FAR better customer service from the woman at Lowe's who received nothing from them during the design process. Lowe's phoned them many times, reworked the design multiple times, etc. She seems to want their business! I went on Angie's list later and saw all the positive postings again about the great work, personalized service, attention, etc. that other people receive from the company and from the owner personally, as well as the notice that Angie's list customers get the design fee waived as well. I do think it is important to mention that my parents are not flashy people that exude that they are big spenders. However, this is huge project and they want and can afford high quality items. I know they mentioned they were in work clothes that morning and even wondered if the cool reception they were getting overall was due to their appearance that day. I also wonder if their experience is due to the fact they are not from Columbus, not working with a associated builder, and there was an assumption that they might not go through with the project. I am wondering if this an isolated experience if it is just important to work directly with the owner. I contacted the owner and shared my concerns. I asked if we could work directly with him or expect more personalized service in the future. He simply replied that he could not. I get the impression my original concerns were correct - that they only like to work with their own associated contractors. I wish they would have just told me that from the beginning which would have saved everyone a lot of time and energy. Though I was disappointed overall, the owner did refund the $350.00 deposit, which I think was the right thing to do. My parents are moving forward with their project with another vendor with a design they are very pleased with (they have decided on the line of cabinets they saw at the Cabinet Shop). At the heart of it, I want my parents to have the dream kitchen/addition they have always wanted and I wanted them to have a positive experience getting it.
Description of Work: My parents who live about 45 minutes away were looking for a kitchen design and upscale kitchen cabinets that were not available in their local market. I heard about the Cabinet Shop from friends and sent them there to check it out. They created a basic kitchen design.

We were very pleased with the service we got from Hans and Andrea at The Cabinet Shop. They spent a lot of time with us as we made our decisions and were willing to make lots of changes as we tweaked our design. There were some overall minor quality issues with our final product, and they made sure those issues were taken care of and that we were ultimately satisfied with our cabinets.
Description of Work: We did a large additional/remodel project that included a kitchen remodel. We used The Cabinet Shop for our new kitchen cabinets as well as vanities for two new bathrooms.

Outstanding job! We interviewed several kitchen designers and cabinet suppliers, and chose Andrea Cole of The Cabinet Shop - for a number of reasons. She had the AKD credential and worked for a reputable CKD. She was very professional, explained the kitchen design and cabinet selection process, and was willing to provide the design for a fee even if we chose not to buy from The Cabinet Shop (but we did buy from them). But most of all, she was very friendly and customer service oriented. My wife already had a pretty good idea of what she wanted, so the design was fairly straight-forward and her first draft needed very few changes. She suggested all the right accessories that we would need or want, and did a fantastic job at making the most of the space we had. She visited our home several times - to field measure twice, to check on the installation in progress, and to check the final installation. She noticed a couple flaws in the cabinets before I did and proactively ordered replacement pieces. We've been in the house now for 7 months, and we absolutely love the kitchen. We can't say enough good things about Andrea and The Cabinet Shop, we are 100% satisfied!

I wasn't sure I was going to be able to get exactly what I wanted but Hans worked with me and was able to build the design exactly to my preferences. He had the stain custom made and worked with the company until it was exactly the color I wanted. He provided me with drawings so I could see the kitchen from every angle which helped alot. He was very hands on and spent as much time with me as I needed. The cabinets are beautiful and excellent quality. Prior to finding Hans and the Cabinet Shop I had been to Lowes with the same basic design. They drew up the plan with Kraftmaid cabinets. The cost was almost double what I spent with the Cabinet Shop and quality was not at all sacrificed, so I am very happy to have found The Cabinet Shop!

Very good experience. The Cabinet Shop was not the low bid, (by approx. $200.00) however, Hans and his staff were extremely responsive from the start. He and the installer went the extra mile to ensure the job was installed to our liking and that things fit. They were able to install a large double bowl sink in a 33" sink cabinet, although the specs for the sink required a 36" or larger cabinet. I haven't had any second thoughts over the extra $. The installation was very professional with attention to detail. The installers left no mess. You can only feel the seam - it is practically invisible.

Wow...we were so pleased with the whole experience from start to beautiful finish. Hans listened to what we had in mind and to the price range we felt would work for us and followed through with appropriate cabinet choices. Our visits to the showroom location were also positive, with great service from Andrea. We stayed within our budget and were exceedingly grateful for the professionalism and timely completion of the delivery and completion of the project. We have him to thank for the help with knobs and granite countertops at a reasonable price as well as a recommendation for a contractor (PalaceAid) which was an equally positive experience. I highly recommend this company. What a complete pleasure!
