The cost was part of my contract with them. The technician told me that my voltage absorber, which you know was something I didn't know about, was a little low or whatever and that I should think about changing it. So I called you know like last week or something to find out how much it would cost. Well they have 4 options; and it starts at $600, $500, $300 and then $200. And I go wow that's almost half the cost of a new furnace. Anyways, so then I looked online about those voltage absorbers and this one comment was you know that's not really necessary you know it's a scam or whatever; they're trying to make money. So I'd have to do more research on that. I tried to call another heating company but they wouldn't divulge anything so I don't know where I would get that information whether that is pertinent or whether I should change it or not change it. I don't know who to contact to ask about that. So like I said I called another place but they said oh we'd have to come out and look at it and that's $89 and I said well never mind; you can't tell me over the phone. I'm just wondering whether I really need it or not. A lot of people I talk to say what is that? So I’m not doing it. If the furnace stops because of that then I'll consider getting a new one. I'm not going to spend $600. I like them. I've been using them since about 2004 or 2005 or whatever, so I've always used them. Their price is probably the same as everybody else. I mean I'm sure they all cost about the same. The quality is good. Yeah I would use them again without the voltage absorber.

I have a contract with them where you pay 100 and something dollars and they do the furnace and the air conditioner. It is very easy to schedule with them. They email or contact me to let me know that it's time for your tuneup. I know a lot of people don't do that every year but I believe in preventiveness. I either contact them or they contact me whatever is easiest. They are very good.

He was a great guy, and answered all of my questions. One step over every item he checked, he had a list written out on the receipt. He was a very nice guy, and he knew what he was talking about. The guy name Brian, he came out her twice. In fact he probably saved our lives, because we called Sear's out here to check our furnace and it was leaking carbon monoxide. He said that he is going to have to shut it down, if it wasn't for him we'd probably be dead. We heard good things about Sear's and I read about them on Angie's List, and our banker recommended him.

A guy name Mike installed the furnace. It went perfect. My wife was here and she was very happy. She said he was a really nice guy, friendly, professional, and went about his business. couple of weeks later I was hearing some kind of little noise in the vents, I called them up and he came out here to check it, said everything was fine and explained to me what I was hearing. That went well too. When he came

Since under warranty and all and since they installed it, we've been calling them to come and check it out in the winter time. We had a young lady come out here and she had an attitude problem. I'm glad to see a young lady like her is in that field, because you don't see anybody doing that. She's in her early twenties, that's fine, I don't care as long as you know what you're doing. I don't care if you're from mars. I had a couple of questions, and she was kind of like I'm the professional, so I know what I'm talking about, and you're the home owner and see it everyday, you don't know what you're talking about. We kind of got into it a little bit. Finally I pretty much told her, okay, goodbye. I did call the company. I didn't want to get her into trouble, I just thought she needed a little bit extra training because the other two people who came out here were terrific. The guy who put the furnace in was a super guy. I told her what I noticed two days before she came out here, and she was totally opposite of Brian. She didn't go over anything as to what she checked or did. She was just in a rush and left. We buy $150 a year warranty. It covers anything that goes wrong with the furnace, and a furnace checkup. I don't even know what she did. She did show up on time. I just don't care for somebody with an attitude, then I get an attitude. I don't understand why she just didn't listen to me. I was trying to explain what I was observing. I told her that I see this everyday, and I was trying to explain how this works. We were observing something with the thermostat and the furnace, and when she came over they immediately crank up the heat because they have to do a furnace check. I didn't see the temperature rising on the thermostat. I said that's awfully strange, I didn't see the heat incrementally go up. When I run it at home on a daily basis. if it's at 65 and I put it at 70 it goes to 65. 66, 67, I asked why doesn't it do that now. She said no it does not work that way, and that I must be looking at it wrong. I told her sorry, but I see it everyday. She said it just takes a long time to heat up, and that's the way it works, and that was it with her. That's when we started to butt heads. She insisted that it worked the way she said it did. She said if you're not happy with it, you can call somebody else. I even called to talk to the supervisor, which was a woman. She was nice and listened to me. I just said she might know her business on how to fix the furnace, but she need a little bit of training and attitude assessment on listening to the customer. She need to work with Brian for a while, because he was the epitome of a technician, just an all around nice guy. He listened to me, he didn't talk to me like I was stupid, and explained things. I would use them, and I would make sure she doesn't come out here. I wouldn't ask for her.

We had to reschedule, because the first morning we had it scheduled was one of those cold mornings. We have the furnace and air conditioning on contract They come every spring to check the air conditioning, and come back in the fall to check the heating system. They were originally James Sears company. They have been around. They put the furnace and air conditioner in originally. They have it under contract every since. Once or twice we had a problem, and they came out right away to take care of it.

It is not Sears & Roebuck, it is a local company called Sears Heating & Cooling. The contract is $200-and something a year. I don't know the exact amount offhand. Their pricing is fine. It took about a half hour or 45 minutes to do the maintenance. The worker I came in contact with was very good.

Sears sent someone out the same day even though I didn't call until 11:00 AM. Ramon, the service man, was exceptionally courteous. Before he started work he explained the process he would follow and the fact that there was a $79 service call fee that would be waived if he found the problem and we chose to have the work done. He spent a lot of time diagnosing the problem. Once he found it, he explained what he had found and how he knew that was the problem. He talked about the age and condition of our furnace and it's probable life expectancy. He gave us several options that ranged from just fixing the problem to remedying other things that he had found. The warranty period varied for each option, also. He answered all of our questions and we decide on an option that did a little more than fix the problem and gave us a 6 month warranty on the work. He also gave us information about maintenance plans offered by Sears Heating and Cooling but did not press us to sign up for one.
Description of Work: Our furnace was going out with increasing frequency. Even though we could restart it by flipping the breaker, it was happening with increasing frequency. We had this problem looked at last year by the company that sold us the furnace. They told us they couldn't find anything and that it was probably going out due to insulation that we had recently had put in the house walls. When it started happening more frequently we knew there had to be a problem.

He fixed these things and checked out the equipment. I was telling him that I would have liked to have a humidifier added to the furnace but had been told it wasn't possible because the space was too small. He told me they could add it, and what the price would be, but no pressure, just gave me the information. Very professional, very pleasant, and I signed a service contract with them.

They claimed they service water heaters, with the exception of Whirlpool brand. Sent tech out who claimed to not be well versed in water heaters, rather his expertise was heating/ac. He felt I did a good job troubleshooting and based on my inconclusive analysis (still no hot water), he recommended I contact a licensed plumber. He did not feel comfortable working on the water heater. Sears initially was going to charge me a service call of 79.00, but after speaking with the office, they agreed not to charge since the call was to service my water heater, which did not occur. Bottom line, Sears dispatched a tech that did not have adequate experience with water heaters, causing me to go without hot water for almost 3 days. Turns out, it had a bad upper heating element. Plumber diagnosed and fixed it within 15 minutes - said it a water heater 101 issue (most common issue). For my troubles, I asked Sears to offer me a discount on my annual maintenance plan since I've been a loyal customer for many, many years (probably a good 15 yrs). They politely refused and did not counter (ex. let me tell you what we will do vs tell me what they won't do). They felt waiving the maintenance call trip charge was sufficient; but you did nothing and caused me to go without hot water longer? Faulty logic. Therefore, I have severed ties with Sears Heating & Cooling.

I'm sorry you were not satisfied with your recent experience. We are generally able to work on most hot water tanks but you had replaced so many parts by yourself already that our tech was not comfortable trying to complete any repairs as he did not know what he was getting into fully. It looks like you called in for service at 8:10AM on 1/10/17 and we had a tech at your house by 11:03AM based on truck GPS. Our tech determined that he would not be able to work on the unit and advised you call a plumber at 11:32AM. I did a quick search on Angies List and found many plumbing companies with high ratings that are available much sooner than the 2 days that you waited unfortunately. Out of good faith, we completely refunded the $79 service charge for the call as we were not able to work on the unit. You called in and demanded to speak to a service manager and voiced your concerns. Approximately an hour later, you called back and renewed your annual service plan with us. An hour or so after that, you emailed us and wanted us to refund a large portion of that for us not being able to work on your hot water tank. However, there was really nothing to be refunded, we already refunded the service charge for us coming out to look at the unit. We did end up completely refunding and cancelling your service plan with us at your request. I apologize you were not able to find a plumbing company that could come out that same day and you had to wait 2 more days. Based on your longtime loyalty to us as a company, I know you have come to find that we do excellent work and truly care about our customers. We will miss serving you as a customer and hope you are able to find a company that better suits your current demands.

Caveat emptor ? ?Let the buyer beware?! The doctrine of caveat emptor must be practiced when dealing with Sears Heating and Cooling. Unfortunately, I did not practice it and in not doing so it has cost me dearly in time and money. I have been a customer of Sears Heating and Cooling for 13 or 14 years. I have spent thousands of dollars with them on a furnace, two heat pumps and various service calls. I have paid a monthly fee for a preventive maintenance agreement. I have had my HVAC systems inspected both spring and fall. Over the years I have been with them, I found them a bit pricey compared to other HVAC companies, but they seemed responsive to my needs, so I did not go looking elsewhere for service. Thirteen years ago, Sears Heating and Cooling installed a new energy efficient (for that time) electric furnace and new heat pump. Eleven years later, the heat pump went out, one year after the warranty expired. When the repair technician arrived to look at the unit, he determined what the problem was and explained that because the unit was eleven years old, the part needed to repair it was no longer manufactured and that I would have to purchase a new heat pump. I should have gotten a second opinion at that time, but did not do so because I trusted Sears?but in retrospect, I should have because I paid thousands of dollars for a new heat pump that may not have been necessary. I have provided this background, because I want the potential customer looking at using Sears Heating and Cooling, to know that they do not take care of long standing customers, who have spent thousands of dollars and have remained loyal for so many years. Obviously, loyalty only works one way with Sears! The latest problem with Sears Heating and Cooling involves my furnace going out on Tuesday, November 1st. We called Sears, primarily because we have used them for years and have a service agreement with them. Their service technician arrived on Thursday afternoon. He provided no estimate, but told my wife the repair would be ?about $1200.00. When it was completed, the charge was $1655.00. When I attempted to obtain an itemized statement of invoice, a Sears office representative told me that I was not entitled to receive an itemized statement. How am I not entitled to an itemized statement that outlines the various charges, i.e. cost of part(s), labor cost, including total labor hours and the amount of sales tax I was charged. I have made various attempts at getting the information, but my inquiries are ignored or I am provided a company line of BS. According to Sears Heating and Cooling, the following is how they charge: Parts are 25%-30% of price; Labor is 25%-30% of price; Overhead is about 25% of price; and Profit is 10%-20% of price. My question remains?what is the price of the part, because the $1655.00 I was charged was based on the cost of the new ECM blower motor, and I have not found, through my extensive research with Carrier Bryant HVAC dealers, the model of ECM blower motor for my furnace that has a retail cost exceeding $674.99. Allow me to repeat to any potential customer of Sears Heating and Cooling?Caveat Emptor!
Description of Work: Repair furnace, which required installing a new ECM blower motor.

They subcontract the work out. They did what they were supposed to do -- there is always room for improvement. The air conditioner works. I did have to call them one time because there was a problem. They did come over here and I did buy the extended warranty. I still have the service warranty. Sears is extremely high. They are outrageously priced. The quality, I guess, would be average. They came when they said they were coming. They were good, nice people.
