Thank you very much for sharing this. I am glad to be of help. I also would also like to take a couple minutes here to set realistic and positive expectations for all members... we try our very best to get back with everyone in as timely manner as possible. Sometimes this is within a few hours but we have as a goal always to get back with people within 2 business days. This allows for the ebb and flow of day to day events.. If you do reach out to us about a project and we do not respond by the third business day, it is likely that we did not receive the message correctly. (technology is really great and we make the maximum use out of it that we can but sometimes email/voice mail/and the Angie's list message system does have issues). Of course there is the possibility that somehow something slipped through the cracks on our end. If this ever happens to you, we sincerely apologize in advance, and ask that you try reaching out again. We are all doing our best but sometimes we make mistakes. Thanks so much... Scott Hall.

We are extremely happy with SHR. They were very professional and accommodating to our lifestyle with two young children. They put up temporary (plastic) walls to secure the area and minimize dust, plus they kept the house clean. The final product is exceptional. They (Bryn and Shawn) had a high level of attention to detail and we felt comfortable with them in our house when no one was home. Also, on a positive note, they complete the project about $1000 under budget. The only drawback was that SHR committed to a 5-7 week timeframe and it took about 9 weeks. A combination of factors contributed to this (some due to us and some to SHR). Fortunately, we had some flexibility and the final product was worth the wait. Overall, we highly recommend.
Description of Work: Scott Hall Remodeling (SHR) helped us re-design the space for a jack and jill bathroom and did all of the work. This included moving plumbing, electric, drywall and all finishing. It was torn down to the studs and redone.

Thanks so much for this glowing review of Scott Hall Remodeling. We really appreciate it. These homeowners were wonderful to work with from start to finish. I’d like to simply share a few words about the project timeline that may be of benefit for other homeowners considering a remodel. I just reviewed the original contract again and the homeowner is (mostly) correct about the original contract timeframe. We had a maximum timeframe of 7 weeks (not 5 -7) written into the contract. Of important significance regarding this is that there were a series of ADDITIONAL WORK ORDERS that the homeowner requested us to add during the project. This (as the homeowner correctly states) did impact the project as it took us about an extra 2 weeks to complete, which is how we ended up at a 9 weeks. While we do try to keep to originally timeframes, when we are asked to take on extra work, it sometimes does push us past those original timeframes. In fairness to the homeowner, we did have a couple minor delays on our end due to a couple of unknown variables, and while it did not impact our overall committed timeframe (we may have finished a week to 10 days faster than the expectation), we sincerely apologize if the small delay was in any way inconvenient for the homeowner. It is of utmost importance to us to exceed our customer’s expectations on. Thanks again for working with us.

I contacted Scott Hall Remodeling for a quote and learned that he was not interested in the project. His response was quick and professional. Most of the time it's tough enough getting a response from a Contractor when they are interested let alone when they're not. He did give me a reference for someone else to contact. I'll follow up with that.

I think he did an excellent job. The results are excellent and I’m very happy with it. I liked the person who came and he did a good job. I love my bathroom. He just did part of it and his part was very efficiently done. He had what he needed. He was only here and it wasn’t like he was here forever. It took him two days or something. I thought the price was reasonable. I don’t know if he gave a better price to my contractor than he would have given to me because I’m just a consumer. So I just don’t know that. He showed up on time. I wouldn’t mind recommending or telling the others about him in the future.

We spent a long time in our vendor selection process, and interviewed seven vendors. All but one were highly-rated on Angie?s List; the one was recommended by a friend. Our selection criteria were: documented competence, ease of working with the vendor, design advice and counseling, and reasonable pricing. The component many vendors lacked was design assistance, which was help we wanted. Project planning was smooth and realistic. Material selection involved visiting four vendor/suppliers, so it takes time. Also, the process was marred by assumptions made by the company which we didn?t know better to ask about. The result was a critical stop mid-project to establish the colors we wanted instead of what was assumed. This was the only flaw in the process, and the company reacted wonderfully. We got what we wanted without an issue. The process has since been adjusted to prevent recurrence. The team doing the work consisted of one, and often two craftsmen who worked quietly and efficiently, with a workman demeanor. They were consistently on-time and respectful. They were very tidy. The project took exactly the projected time. We had weekly meetings to review the week?s progress and the upcoming week?s goals. In sum. We love our bathroom. Scott Hall Remodeling did a fantastic job, and we definitely recommend the company. They do very nice work.
Description of Work: We engaged Scott Hall Remodeling to completely remodel our master bath. Major components of the project were moving a wall, replacing a bath tub, enlarging the shower, replacing the vanities and building a table.

We have had experience with remodeling homes before. This went very well. We had even had several contractors who "fixed" that nasty skylight before. SHR was the only company that was willing to do the tough job of getting the structural issues addressed and then moved on to the fun cosmetic remodeling of a truly ugly bathroom. We do not reside year-round at the house where the remodeling was done. It required great coordination and cooperation to make selections and review progress, but SHR was on top of all progress. We greatly appreciated the way Scott and Mike immediately informed us of any problems that arose and helped us through the related decisions.
Description of Work: This was a complicated project. Our 34 year old bathroom was seriously outdated, but we had a perplexing and persistent issue with a leaky skylight. The ceiling/skylight problem had to be addressed before we could even begin to work on the bathroom remodel. SHR removed the skylight, installed a new roof over the bathroom and remodeled the bathroom.

I contacted Scott Hall to remodel my parent's bathroom as a gift. Since I live in NY and the work was being done in OH, I was very concerned about the distance making it difficult to get everything done as desired. Scott and his team did a great job making the whole process very transparent, sending updates frequently. Scott's level of professionalism is top notch. The end product was very high quality and my parents love it. I would use Scott again in a heartbeat.

The original estimate on this project was a little over $20K. We were able to reduce that by doing a lot of the work ourselves including; demo and floor tile install. We found Scott Hall Remodeling on Angie's List. The overall experience from start to finish was EXCELLENT! Scott, who did the surveying was very responsive, attentive, and very professional. Bryn and Joe, who did the construction were also very professional. They took care in laying protective plastic on the carpets, and cleaned up after themselves. We are very HAPPY with the results. Not going to lie, the price was a little higher than I was expecting. However for the PROFESSIONALISM and QUALITY it was well worth it!!!!

She recommended a product that did not pass the requirements for being safe in a shower and wasted my time. She took me through her house that was not pertinent to my home. I was really upset about the estimate. We had a really bad experience. She did not know anything about the tiled products and mostly talked about her own house. We are still at ground zero because we wasted time and money.

We apologize that this member was unhappy with their experience with us. A review like this is certainly way out of the norm for us. We encourage members to read all of our great reviews we have received through the years. After the initial meeting, the homeowner asked us for additional design assistance. In order to help cover the costs of our consulting work with homeowners, we do ask for a “design retainer”. This design retainer also will count toward the project if a homeowner decides to proceed forward with the project. We met with this homeowner 4 additional times at different suppliers, had multiple phone consultations, and prepared a very detailed project plan and cost assessment (based on making some design assumptions). The homeowner picked dozens of samples she liked at the different stores we visited with her. At the conclusion of all of our work together, she informed us that she didn’t like anything that she had picked out and was unable to tell us what she wanted for fear she would not like it after it was installed. She asked us to choose for her, but wanted assurance that if she didn’t like the final bathroom, that we could redo it. We absolutely love having our clients projects come together in great ways, but we must also leave some responsibility on our client’s shoulders when it comes to telling us what they desire. We never like to push people into anything. We also would never recommend any type of tile that would be “un-safe” for a shower. Bathroom Remodeling is our specialty and expertise and we know it very well. We very much love working with people on their projects. We are always patient and understanding, even in challenging situations. We really experience a lot of satisfaction from seeing our client’s remodeling desires come to fruition when the final project is complete. ~ Scott Hall
What a joy it was to work with Scott and his design team! From the very first meeting with Scott, I knew this was the company I wanted and could trust. Scott pays close attention to detail and is never pushy. He listens to what his client wants, and explains options and costs clearly. I appreciated his ongoing communication throughout the process. Sherry, the design consultant was tremendous in helping me select the plumbing fixtures, accessories and tile (which can be overwhelming!) and was always available with her knowledge about colors, patterns, textures, etc. Bryn and Joe did an outstanding job of making it all come together with their professional expertise. They were dependable, never seemed rushed or bothered if I interrupted with a question and always cleaned up at the end of the day. The master bath is on the second floor so there were many trips up and down the stairs carrying heavy objects; yet there were no scrapes, scratches or nicks to the walls. All the flooring in their path was carefully covered with plastic. They were always polite, kind and patient. I felt a little sad when the project was finished, because I missed seeing them nearly every day! I am extremely pleased with my new master bath, and especially the friendships I have made with Scott and his wonderful design team!
Description of Work: Complete remodel of master bath including total demo. Removed bathtub and replaced with a beautiful travertine tiled shower with glass tile deco band and tile continuing around bottom half of bathroom, repainted top half. New extended height vanity with granite countertop, under mount sink, under sink storage space and 8 drawers; matching framed mirror. New toilet, cabinet above toilet matching back to vanity, linen closet repainted and new shelves installed. New lighting above mirror and in shower; new flooring, additional outlets installed, timer for exhaust fan, matching tile switch plates and replacement door handles/hinges for bathroom and walk-in closet doors.

We wanted to renovate the small main-floor bathroom in our old Clintonville home, and we chose Scott Hall Remodeling because of the many excellent reviews in Angie's List. Scott visited our home, patiently and expertly answered our many questions, and provided a detailed written estimate. The remodel was to include a new Onyx shower with glass door and fixtures, new toilet, custom medicine cabinet and framed mirror, new sink and vanity with granite top, new tile floor with new wood baseboard and toe-molding, new towel racks, new recessed ceiling lights, new exhaust fan, new circulating pump to provide hot water instantly, new grab bars, and newly painted walls and ceiling. The work took approximately four weeks. We are delighted with the finished project. Scott's team (Bryn and Joe) did a superb job in all respects, with meticulous attention to detail. They were also careful to keep dust to a minimum, to cover our hardwood floors and oriental rugs with protective material throughout the project, and to clean the work areas and tidy up after each day's work. They were considerate and courteous as well as professional, and it was a genuine pleasure to get to know them and have them in our house every day. UPDATE (May 2014): Scott's painters -- Mike and Sean -- did a fine job painting our two-story house, repairing some windows, and painting our kitchen. Scott also replaced a shower door and some fixtures and ceiling fan in an upstairs bathroom. All in all, the work was uniformly excellent and Scott's company a pleasure to deal with. We couldn't be happier.

It was so wonderful to work with both of you. You were so accommodating during the remodeling process. It really makes our work so satisfying when the collaboration between our team and the homeowner is so nice. Thanks so much and we look forward to seeing you again next spring.
I wish you could see how easy these guys are to work with, and the integrity they have as they deal with their patrons. I honestly don't have one word of complaint! I felt comfortable having them in my home, felt they were up front with me every step of they way, was kept updated regularly, and when I chose a cheesy looking toilet, there were no problems with returning it and ordering a new one in a better color with no repercussions. The workmanship is superb, the job was done with an eye towards the future, and my personality and choices were listened to and heeded. Although It took a bit longer than promised, that is because Scott and Mike didn't like the way the shower handle was attached: they feared it wouldn't last. So they had the installers come out and do it better, drilling a hole instead of the pressure handle. I might have been none the wiser, but this company takes care of it's patrons!
Description of Work: Scott and Mike completely remodeled our downstairs bathroom and replaced two doors. They took it down to the studs. Then they (Mike, really!) rebuilt it to be the beautiful bathroom that is!

It took a while to get an opening on Scott's schedule, but once he was available the project went very well. Scott visited our home; provided detailed written estimates; and provided clear documentation. Once we committed to the project his team arrived as scheduled; completed work as scheduled and in a professional manner. I was pleased that as we progressed through the job, his team was sensitive to any concerns raised and took the time to explain or to allow us to re-evaluate. In addition to their skill, I was especially pleased by the care they took with my home and health. They covered all floors they would travel over; wrapped the rooms they were working in to keep dust and debris inside the space; provided a large HEPA filtration system. They cleaned up each night never leaving a mess.

This was an extremely challenging project for several reasons. Our older brick residence was built in 1931, with narrow oak hardwood floors, and a poured concrete floor in the tiled bathroom. Even the sink counter was poured concrete. All surfaces were tiled. The fire burned through supporting floor joists, and the poured concrete pad tilted and partially collapsed, causing plumbing, electrical, and structural damage, air duct collapse. Essentially, the floor and joists had to be replaced and the entire bathroom space rebuilt, rewired, and re-plumbed. To complicate things, the lathe and mortar walls included hand formed coves around the top. Before I called Scott Hall, I called several contractors for estimates; I have a background in the construction and woodworking trades so I was able to evaluate these bids fairly. Two were artificially low bids, one was extremely high, and all did not properly specify the project elements I had clearly identified. Scott Hall completely and correctly studied and evaluated the scope and specifics of the project in his written Project Scope. He found some hidden issues that I had missed. He and his staff explained each step of the work, a realistic timetable, and started on time and stayed on schedule. In our older home, nothing is square, and the damage was not only extensive in the space but in all the supporting systems. Scott Hall and his crew were able to come up with some ingenious solutions to challenging situations that all contributed to a very high quality result. They cleaned up every day stayed in constant communication throughout the project. I can recommend Scott Hall Remodeling without qualification; these guys are very, very good. Honesty, integrity, and attention to detail were top flight. If you use this contractor, you will be pleased.

The project started on schedule. After the old shower had been torn out, it was noted that the floor joist beneath the shower floor was not up to code when house was built. The sub for the builder had cut into floor joist to make the drain pipe fit. The repair to the joist had not been done properly by the builder. Mike, who was in charge of this project for Scott Hall, had experience in framing. He put lag bolts in the sister joist to bring it up to code. This held up the project, but I was impressed that Scott Hall's team paid attention to detail. When the tub was removed and then repositioned with the new onyx deck, Mike took additional steps to make sure that the tub was set correctly. Again, the builder had taken short cuts with the original installation. The tub had been hanging on the frame and was unsupported from below. There were at least a couple inches between the subfloor and the bottom of the tub. Upon stepping into the tub/Jacuzzi before the remodel, it always felt a little unstable. Mike built up the subfloor and used quick set to provide a firm foundation for the tub. It is rock solid now. Aesthetically, Scott Hall's work was impressive. The onyx and the glass enclosure are beautiful. The color scheme in the bathroom pleased my wife thanks to the help of Ali, the designer who works with Scott. After the work was completed, the bathroom was spotless. The men working for Scott took measures to keep the place very tidy while they completed the project. Follow up after the project to make sure we were completely satisfied was excellent. I have used Angie's list for a while, but mainly to find contractors or services. This is the first time I have written a review. I did so because I was so pleased with the work. It took a while to get on the schedule because his work is in demand. The project was not cheap, but "you get what you pay for." Scott Hall remodeling was definitely worth the wait and the cost.
Description of Work: Removed master bathroom shower which had leaked through to garage. Replaced with onyx walls, glass enclosure and upgraded fixtures. Replaced vanity counter top, sinks and Jacuzzi tub deck with onyx including upgraded fixtures for tub. Painted large master bathroom. Cost included designer consultant to help with color selection and all fixtures. Cost also included unanticipated repairs related to old shower.

I worked with Scott and his team to completely revamp my 1940s bathroom in the clintonville area. Scott personally came to the table with a lot great ideas and the willingness to listen to what I was thinking. His team was beyond professional and kept me beyond adequately updated along the way. We met with Scott and really enjoyed discussing the project with him. We had already talked to a few other contractors and had estimates, but Scott seemed most willing to work with my limited scope (we only wanted to update the shower, NOT the entire bathroom!) Scott came in, took measurements, and gave us a list of various suppliers he has worked with to help us decide on the materials. We chose the floor tile, curb material, layout of the tile on the walls, wall height, door configuration, fixtures -- pretty much everything. It was great having choices, but at first the number of them was daunting! Scott helped us work through the choices, giving me the pros and cons of different materials or hardware. We even enlisted the help of a decorator he uses; Ali helped us with color choices and style ideas, even down to the complementary paint color to use on walls Scott wouldn't even be changing! We really appreciated her help! After the initial decisions were made, Bryn (Scott's "right-hand man") came in and started the work. First he demolished the old shower in short order, and went about framing the new area out, plumbing the new jets and selector, and waterproofing the new enclosure. We explained to him how the old shower didn't drain properly and he was very diligent in making sure that wouldn't happen here! He did the rest of the initial work and started tiling as soon as the tile we chose was available. At first, we weren't sure we liked the direction of the tile (with the rectangular tiles running more top-to-bottom than side-to-side), but we waited to see the finished product. We are SO happy it was done this way! It really looks great all the way to the ceiling, making the shower appear even larger than before! The fixtures went in smoothly, and they looked fantastic. After Bryn finished up the work (he was very meticulous but also quite fast), the team Scott works with for the shower enclosure came in to take measurements. They asked us what height we think the enclosure / door should be, but we weren't sure what would look right. They said that was okay, we could determine that shortly. They were even nice enough to mark the tile so we could tell how high each of the different choices would be. That helped tremendously, and we were able to make the choice pretty quickly. The organization that does the glass walls and door are excellent! The new frameless enclosure looks terrific, and the way it moves is so smooth, even though that door has GOT to be very heavy! All in all this was a fantastic experience; I highly recommend Scott and his method. Everything was smooth, quick, and very professional. If you have remodeling needs, please talk to them... you will be glad you did!
Description of Work: We had the entire master bathroom shower removed and recreated from the ground up. The previous shower was dated and water didn't drain properly to the floor opening, but rather pooled in the corners. It also had a rather large enclosure, but only one shower head. In a bathroom like that, clearly something was missing. I had the surround replaced with a new, frameless glass enclosure, and raised the height to match the scale of the room. We added 3 body jets, a hand shower, and a rain shower shower head, everything in brushed nickel. Scott included a bench similar to the one that was already there, along with two built-in shelves for various supplies. I also asked them to fortify the master bathroom whirlpool bath, since during the inspection I realized it was not supported by a mortar bed. This work was unnecessary, since this tub type actually requires a mortar bed NOT be installed and it is actually supported at the sides by a very hefty support system. I had never seen that before. Since we had the money for this in the estimate by the time we found this out, the extra cost was applied to upgrading the tub faucet to brushed nickel to match the shower hardware. It all turned out FANTASTIC!

I found Scott Hall on Angie's List and contacted him because of his awards and great reviews. He promptly made an appointment to discuss my project. I liked him immediately because he was so knowledgeable and did not use any high pressure sales tactics. My baths are small and were very dated and in need of repair as well as remodel. I decided to only do the master and replace the tub and surround in the guest bath to save money. When he came to go over the scope I decided to add a couple more things in the guest bath, then I ended up calling a couple more times to totally redo the guest bath because I knew I would regret not getting it all done at once. Scott was very patient with my ever changing plans. He provided me with a detailed list of things I needed to do and worked with me on a timeline. He gave me a list of providers to see to pick out my stuff. Each of the providers was great to work with and helped me figure out what to pick. The cabinet maker came to my house and later dropped off a sample with the stain I had chosen. I talked to Scott several times prior to start of construction and he was always prompt to get back with me. Bryn worked on my project and he was very nice and professional. He covered the path to the baths to protect my floors and cleaned up everyday. I felt comfortable to leave him in my house alone (with my dog). He kept me informed as to the progress and any issues that arose. The project was completed within the time frame and only slightly over the estimate due to unforeseen structural issues that needed to be added. My finished baths look beautiful and the tiny rooms look larger. Going through construction is never fun but everything went so it was a much better experience than I had anticipated. I would highly recommend Scott Hall Remodeling. Scott was well organized, professional, honest, personable, and responsive and his staff are great.

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your feedback on your experience with us. It was a pleasure to work with you!
The job began with a thorough review of scope of the project by Scott Hall. Scott then called to setup a meeting to review the scope and cost of the work. Once we approved the project work began ahead of schedule. The work began with all work traffic areas in the home being covered with protective material that was maintained thru out the project. The workers were prompt, courteous and always respectful of the owners property. The work areas were cleaned daily to prevent tracking of dust and debris into other areas of the home. Despite numerous unforeseen issue that arose, schedule and pricing was maintained . While the work was ongoing they maintained respect for our privacy, we were very comfortable with them being in our home. The project has greatly enhanced the beauty and functionality of our home. We are extremely pleased with the work done. Scott and his people were always pleasant to be around, very patient with any questions or suggestions we had and were a pleasure to work with. We would highly recommend Scott Hall Remodeling to anyone looking to have remodeling done in their home.

We hired Scott Hall Remodeling because of the glowing reports in Angie's List. Our original project plan involved replacing tiled walls in the master bath with a product called Onyx. However, our fears of mold and rot behind the walls in the shower stall were realized when Scott's worker, Seth, stripped them to the studs during demolition. The products used during construction in 2004 had failed. (I hate tiles and grout). Water soaked the wallboard and fiberglass insulation, leaked into the crawlspace below the shower, and reached exterior sheeting. Needless to say, the aforementioned mold was everywhere. The plywood sheeting was so rotten I was able to puncture it with a screwdriver and touch the vinyl siding that covered the outside of the house. Seth was therefore required to do some work not included in the original estimate. He worked quickly and skillfully to remove vinyl siding and replace moldy sheeting in a single day to save us as much money as possible. He installed new 2X4 studs to address any suspected structural issues. He finally removed the mold before resuming the original work of installing new wallboard and the Onyx products. He finished the whole thing in a week. We couldn't be happier with the result. The tiles and grout on the walls that annoyed me for so many years have been replaced with a smooth, WATERPROOF product that looks beautiful. The cheap plastic pan that sounded like Niagra Falls when the water hit it has been replaced with a solid, stone-like product that makes us feel like we are showering at the Ritz. The flimsy shower door and glass walls supported by U-channels have been replaced by heavy, solid glass that does not trap water in unseen places and spawn the growth of mildew and other disgusting stuff that emerges during cleaning. Seth was meticulous and conscientious in his work. For example, he accidentally chipped a window sill during demolition. He reported it to me and built a new sill to replace it. I admit the numerous crooked contractor horror stories on TV made me wary of entering into this project. However, Scott Hall's courteous, soft-spoken manner quickly put my mind at ease. I did not feel like I was talking to a sleazy, high-pressure salesman who might disappear after taking some of my money and punching a few holes in my walls. Scott Hall is a professional who, in my opinion, is the best at what he does. I have already recommended him to others, and I will certainly call no one else when it comes time to do another remodeling project. Scott's many glowing reports in Angie's List were mentioned at the beginning. Add this one to the pile.
