When I tried to get RHR to finally replace the mis-sized gutter, they denied that I had told them at the beginning that the gutters were of different sizes. Although a series of e-mails between RHR and me will demonstrate the truth of my claim and I am certain I would win a suit against RHR in Court of Small Claims, the illness of my wife precludes my embarking on that path of action. I merely warn other members of Angie's List to beware of this outfit. They should not be listed on Angie's List.
Description of Work: Because RHR Home Repairs is listed on Angie's List, I did not check to learn that they have an "F" rating by the Better Business Bureau. I learned too late that RHR is a husband/wife team posing as a large company, with a telephone tree that never gets you to a live person ("Please listen carefully, as our options have changed...") and a web-site that gives the impression this is a state-wide operation. This deceptiveness permeates the entire activities of RHR. In mid-June of 2011 I engaged RHR to do a variety of repairs on my home, foremost of which was to replace the corner-piece of a high gutter that had been leaking onto the back entry stairs of my house, making it dangerous for my disabled wife to enter the house in winter when the drips would freeze. After several attempts to have the corner-piece repaired, I was told that the problem derived from the fact that the corner-piece was joining gutters of two different sizes. That was when I called RHR and asked Mr. Roy to clean ALL the gutters of the house and to replace one of the gutters attached to the corner-piece to make it the same size as the gutter attached to the other side of the corner-piece. Since I work full-time, I could not watch the work being done, but came home during the noon hour every day. One day I came home at lunch time and Mr. Roy announced that the gutter work was all finished and asked for payment. I looked up at the gutter that was to be replaced and saw it hadn't even been cleaned out. Angrily, I demanded that the gutter be replaced as contracted. Several days later, I was told that the gutter had been replaced. So I paid the bill. The corner-piece continued to leak. On August 26, Mr. Roy revealed that he had replaced the gutter with the same incongruous size that had been there at the beginning. He told me—as though it was his discovery—that the reason the corner-piece was leaking was because the gutters attached to it are of different sizes!

Response from RHR Home Repair & Improvements
Unfortunately, I am just now viewing this post and I wanted to post ALL my email replies to this client, we were more than willing to come to a reasonable agreement (for both parties) but he was asking for an unfair/unreasonable resolution; this situation was very unfortunate and I abhor that it turned out this way: On Aug 30, 2011, at 10:38 AM, RHR Home Repair and Improvements wrote: Client, When you contacted us in June to do an estimate, you had pointed out several items that needed to be fixed. You and our contractor walked around the outside of your house. The items included: repair front porch roof and gutter. Remove damaged wood and install new rail at top level at the side of house. Repair side window trim and paint white. Trim away branches from house and garage and haul away. Install new down spout at RT side of house. Remove damaged down spout and new edge gutter corner at the rear of house. Remove and install new faccia board and wire up for light on the garage. Remove and install new gutter at the rear of house and repair faccia board. Clean and reattach gutter at left side of house. And power wash garage blocks and paint semi-gloss white. We have completed the work you have contracted us to do. The rear gutter and the corner attachment were residential gutter pieces which were on the house before we started. We felt it was within reason to install a new gutter corner piece that would match up with the current residential gutter. As the new gutter corner piece fits the residential side gutter but it does not go well with your other gutter side which was determined to be commercial gutter. The residential vs. commercial gutter issue was noticed after the fact. You had also stated that you really didn't have the funds to do anymore work on the gutters and had addressed to our contractors that you were running out of money. During the course of your project, our contractors had stated that you became very obnoxious and irate, for unknown reasons at the time, which made their working environment very hostile. Our contractors then said you had attempted to apologize to them about the way you were treating them by stating that you were having a bad day because the IRS was riding your back and your wife was ill. Please know-------We are NOT in business to do shady work or rip customers off. That's just not us and I am very sorry if you feel this way. We've been in business since 1999 and have served well over hundred's of customers. I personally, DO NOT agree with the way the BBB does their ratings. If you were to call the BBB and ask them how many clients had an issue with us it would be less than 3, maybe 4 out of hundred's of satisfied customers. Off the top of my head one of the BBB issues was because RHR management and the customer could not come to a fair agreement for both sides; as the customer was being completely unreasonable in their asking. Our number one priority is to try and make sure ALL of our customers are completely happy but it seems as though there will always be one or two customers that you just can't make happy, no matter how hard you try; that's life. In summary, we completed everything you hired us to do. Our contractors had also mentioned on numerous occasions you had stated that the work they were doing at your resident looked good. You did not hire us to replace your current commercial gutter with residential gutter. It boils down to this---- we can try to make what is currently there work or refund that portion of your money back. The corner gutter piece which is currently there is brand new and was installed by our contractors. If you want the commercial gutter removed and a new residential gutter installed along with hauling away the debris the cost will be $375. Please know were are trying to make an unfortunate situation, right. Thank you for your time concerning this matter. Angie Rochelle Office Manager On Aug 27, 2011, at 10:38 AM, RHR Home Repair and Improvements wrote: Good morning Client, It has been determined that we will add more sealant to your gutter to help stop with any leakage. We're scheduling to have this done by Friday, September 2. If this does not solve the issue will can refund your money for that portion of your service order. I do apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. Thank you and have a nice weekend. On Jul 5, 2011, at 11:08 PM, RHR Home Repair and Improvements wrote: Hi Client, We were at your property today to revisit the left side corner gutter piece per your request. We can proceed with installing another corner gutter piece but this will not solve the issue on a permanent basis. The corner gutter piece is not connecting with the left side gutter. Your front, right and back gutters are all residential. The left gutter is commercial as its wider and bigger and residential is smaller. The corner gutter piece will properly align with the back gutter but its not aligning with the left. If you like we can proceed with installing another new corner gutter piece but our recommendation is to eventually change out the whole left side gutter at some point. Please call me at the office 614-775-6489 ext. 112. Thanks Angie Rochelle Office Manager

I contacted a RHR service representative the week of June 22 who gave me an estimate to complete the work. I did pay the entire amount of work (which I will never do again!) of $425.00. The man who gave me the estimate promptly cashed the check. He promised work would begin in the next week. Over the next two months, I would receive calls or talk to the representative who would state the work would be completed in the ensuing weeks. Each conversation would begin with a laundry list of excuses why the job wasn't completed. After giving RHR a final deadline to complete this project(week of August 22) the work was never completed. I contacted another company who had the job finished within 1 week. After two calls about a full refund, I got two more promises of repayment with nothing being resolved by September 21. I will have to take other measures to recover my payment.
Description of Work: I needed a 20-25 foot section of gutter removed and replaced.

We have and have ALWAYS had a Customer Terms and Agreement document to help alleviate any project issues. This information is printed on ALL of forms (estimates and service orders) Upon the customer signing any service form they are agreeing to the Customer Terms and agreeing that they have READ the entire Customer Terms and Agreement document. This customer NEVER contacted the office manager to open a service concern ticket; had they done this...... this would not have happened. I am including a few paragraphs from our Customer Terms and Agreement: Item number 7. PROJECT GUIDANCE - It is RHR’s responsibility to guide the customer through the steps of their service order. We will verbally go over all procedures and keep the customer informed on a continual basis until the project is complete. If this is not done the customer should immediately contact the Customer Care Manager at (614) 775.6489, ext. 112. SERVICE CONCERNS Item number 10. SERVICE CONCERNS OR COMPLAINTS - The customer is advised to review our work on an as need basis and list items that need our attention. Or participate by phone with the Customer Care Manager in a quick progress report check to rate the quality of our service. Project concerns, questions or complaints should be communicated immediately by calling (614) 775.6489, ext. 112 for a resolution whether in person, via telephone, email, US postal mail or by fax transmission. We want nothing less than “complete” customer satisfaction. The full Customer Terms and Agreement document is also available from our website. We too are customers and we understand the vital importance of providing great customer service. My assumption is that the customer contacted the technician directly instead of contacting the office.

I AM SO SORRY THAT THIS HAPPENED. WE HAD A TEMPORARY RECEPTIONIST THAT WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR SETTING UP AND CANCELLING THE APPOINTMENTS. FOR THE APPOINTMENT ON 2/26/04, THE SERVICE GUY WAS IN A CAR ACCIDENT. A CALL WAS PUT INTO THE RECEPTIONIST TO CANCEL AND RESCHEDULE THE APPOINTMENT. IT DOESNT LOOK LIKE SHE DID THAT, AND FOR THE VERY NEXT DAY, WHEN THE CALL WAS PLACED TO OUR OFFICE TO CHECK THE STATUS OF THE APPOINTMENT - THE TEMP RECEPTIONIST WAS TO CHECK AND RETURN ALL VOICEMAILS. IT DOESN''T LOOK LIKE SHE DID THAT EITHER. I AM SO SORRY THIS HAPPENED TO YOUR MEMBER. THIS IS DEFINITELY NOT ACCEPTABLE, AND WE DO NOT WANT TO BE REPRESENTED IN SUCH A WAY. PLEASE GIVE MY APOLOGIES TO YOUR MEMBER AND I''M HAPPY TO SAY THAT TEMP RECEPTIONIST WAS LET GO IN MARCH FOR OTHER REASONS.
