I took possession of our new home on a hot autumn day only to discover the original air conditioner already broken (literally, a great "house warming" gift). After being referred to Rawlings HVAC by our home warranty company (and not knowing anyone in the area), I called Derek Rawlings and he was able to come out just a couple days later. He came by my house to check out the problem, spotted rotted wiring right away and set me up to replace the system with a Comfortmaker heating and cooling system. He was able to order the parts and do the work the next day. Generally speaking, the prompt servicing stopped there. When running the air conditioning for the first time, Derek noticed the fan blowing at, what seemed to me, twice the normal power. It was very loud but, after having lived in Hawaii for over three years with no A/C or heating, I could not remember how it was supposed to sound. Derek assured me it was normal and give it time to kick in and get started. The next day, Derek called me and asked to stop back over to adjust some settings (I think he did some more research and realized the fan was NOT supposed to blow so hard). He came the next day and the fan was adjusted properly. He then told me that I would probably have to have the settings adjusted again when it came time to turn the heat on (why didn't he just do it then, I'll never know). Around the beginning of December, it was time to turn the heat on so I tried the system out and sure enough the fan was blowing too hard. I called Derek, he said he'd be able to come out, we set up a date and he never showed up. I asked what happened and he said he forgot. He said he'd call back to let me know when he could come out, he never called, I called him back and he didn't pick up. I texted him (he often communicated this way- which totally bugs me), he said he'd let me know and then never did. Finally, I emailed him letting him know that I had family coming to stay and did not want them sleeping in a room that was freezing and then roasting because of the messed up settings. Finally, after almost two weeks, he came out and in about 5 minutes adjusted the settings. I gave him a Christmas card with a $30 tip for making the trip out. When the time came around to turn the A/C on LESS THAN A YEAR AFTER THE NEW ONE WAS INSTALLED, I got another surprise-- the touch screen Comfortmaker thermostat was blank, I couldn't even reset it to get to a home screen or anything. I called Derek to see if he could troubleshoot and, of course, it took several calls and missed appointments for me to finally be told he had a family emergency and couldn't make it out that week. Fed up and sweating (again), I went to my neighbor, Stu, who works for a commercial A/C company who advised me to check the wiring and get a new thermostat. He talked me through the process and I went to Home Depot and bought a Honeywell touch screen thermostat, installed it in a few minutes and the A/C was up and running. I will never call Derek again.
Description of Work: Replaced heating and cooling system in our 1700 sq ft home and installed a new thermostat.
