Description of Work: We started to use Phoenix Tree Care in 2012 to crown clean/thin some larger trees, remove a few trees smaller trees and a grapevine, fertilize trees and prune some large bushes. The work was always completed with competence, excellent clean-up and courtesy. One of the employees, Samantha Simmons, had recommended certain trees be installed in the gardens of some friends, and these were lovely selections. In the fall of 2013, we decided to have our back yard landscaping completely redone, with a focus on trees and shrubs, and chose Phoenix, based on the previous quality of their work. We met a few times with Samantha, who created a wonderful design and oversaw the removal of current shrubs and 1 tree; transplanting spring bulbs, hosta (divided) and roses; installing 7 trees (4 types;) 6 types of shrubs and flowering bushes in multiple plantings; soil enrichment; fertilization; mulching of beds and creating and reseeding grass borders to create greater lawn space and smaller planted areas. All plantings survived the brutal winter! Recently we had the plantings fertilized and additional mulch added. The garden looks spectacular and it is hard to remember what it looked like before. Description of Work: I called Phoenix Tree Care to ask if they could plant a new tree that had been delivered to my house. Two men came out two days later. The prompt service was much appreciated as the tree had already been there for awhile. The men used a stump grinder to dig the hole in the yard. I supervised them so they would plant the tree very straight, which they did. When they started to backfill the hole, they weren't putting the amendments in that I had been told would be used and I had to remind them. One of the men went back to the truck and got the bag of amendments. I later discovered that they had put the soil and sod from the home into their truck and were planning to take it away. I told them I wanted to keep it. They returned it and offered to carry it where I wanted it. I asked them to take it to the compost pile in the backyard, which they did. Although they did a pretty good job, except for those things noted, I felt these two workers were not up to the usual standard of this company. One was very carelessly dressed. They whispered together a couple of times. I felt uncomfortable with them, and I also felt that they dragged the work out and took too much time raking the soil and so on. They were being paid by the hour. The bill was very high for the amount of work and skill level involved.

Description of Work: I called Phoenix Tree Care to cut a broken limb off a silver maple tree and clean up the limbs that had fallen on the driveway. These were fairly large limbs about twenty feet long and at least five or six inches in diameter. The workers came out in a reasonable time period. They trimmed the limb off and cut it and the limbs which had fallen onto the driveway into neat firewood lengths and stacked them by the side of the driveway. They cleaned up the debris after them. I was very pleased with their work.

Description of Work: Phoenix Tree Care's tree health specialty arborist came out and fertilized four of the trees in my front yard: three maples and a blue spruce, for a spring fertilization. She had come out two weeks earlier at my request to review the trees and make recommendations. She was pleasant and answered my questions about tree care, including concerns I had about replacing the driveway near one of the silver maples. Since my trees are already mature, I generally cannot see any difference when they are fertilized except for possibly the blue spruce, which seems to show more vigorous growth at the top. I believe it was my idea to fertilize them; she seemed unsure about whether it was really necessary. That was okay, even good, as it indicates she was not just trying to sell a service. I was satisfied with the work. I have used this company numerous times and have been happy with their work. Louise has helped me with questions and advice on the phone more than once, without charge. I am willing to pay more for certified arborists, which these people are, because I like to feel my trees are in good hands and are treated with proper care.

Description of Work: I called to find out what to do with a wayward branch on my 3 year old river birch. Rather than charge for a service call or whatnot, she asked exactly what was going on. Upon my description of the problem, she told me how to prune it, where, etc. so that the tree would not be damaged and would heal properly. I appreciated the information and the knowledge shared and will definitely call this company if I need tree service in the future.

Description of Work: LOUISE CAME OUT HERSELF TO DO THE ESTIMATE AND WAS VERY INFORMATIVE REGARDING NOT ONLY THE PARTICULAR TREES THAT WE WANTED TRIMMED, BUT ADDED SOME INPUT AS TO OTHER LANDSCAPING ISSUES. A DETAILED ESTIMATE WAS PROVIDED PROMPTLY BY MAIL. WE HIRED THEM TO PRUNE, CLEAR OUT DEADWOOD AND RESHAPE A DOGWOOD, MAPLE AND WEEPING CHERRY. THEY CLEANED UP THE DEBRIS AS THEY WERE GOING AND LEFT NO MESS AT ALL. THEY DID A GREAT JOB RESHAPING THE TREES.
