An underground drainage system was installed in the backyard to help manage flooding from heavy rainfall. Installed three parallel lines of 4” perforated PVC pipe embedded in pea gravel and landscaped fabric along the back and side of the lawn. The lines were transitioned to a solid 4” PVC pipe to the street. The trenches were backfilled and grass planted. The engineering to get the correct slope was carefully performed. The drainage system successfully prevented any flooding from subsequent heavy rains (3”). I am very pleased with the results.

First of all, Nutter Handyman does NOT give free estimates, contradictory to what it states in Angie's List. So beware. They charged us $90 to come out and give us an estimate on the work we wanted done, but said it would be reimbursed if we decided to use them. Initially, I was impressed with Nutter. They were courteous on the phone and they notified me of the car the worker would be driving, and what he would be wearing. I thought that was great from a safety standpoint. My husband was home for the estimate. He said the gentleman who came out seemed very knowledgeable, and was nice, punctual, etc. My husband explained to him that we needed an itemized quote so that we could return it to our insurance company to be reimbursed for the work. Our insurance company required this information from us, since they had already paid us a predetermined amount, but because we couldn't get the work done for the amount we were given, they said an itemized quote would allow us to be reimbursed for the difference. The gentleman said he would do this for us. After looking at what we needed done, he said it would not be possible to do the work for $1800 (what our insurance paid), but that we would be under $5000. That sounded reasonable to us, and since he said he would itemize the quote we weren't worried about it. They came on a Thursday. We waited over the weekend to hear back from them with the quote, and didn't hear anything back. We called mid-week the next week, to check the progress of the quote, and were told that the guy would email us when it was finished. We called again the following Monday, and they said we would receive the quote within the next day or two. In all, it took about a week and a half to get the quote back. When we got the quote, it was not itemized. What's worse, was they wanted $11,000 to do what the guy told us could be done for under $5000 (we needed the master bath retiled, a toilet put in, a few sheets of drywall installed in the kitchen, and cabinets rehung). They're quotes are not easy to read either, and there was no total on the page. Rather, there was a total for each section of the quote, and they had our bathroom listed on there twice. I emailed them and asked them if they could please itemize the quote, and the woman who responded, said she checked with the owner and the man who came out for the estimate and they do not itemize quotes. I told them thanks and that we would be going with someone else. I had been excited at the prospect of having found someone we could trust to do the work, only to be disappointed and angry when they didn't do what they said they would do. Lowes is doing our bathroom, and charged us the same amount for TWO bathrooms that Nutter wanted for one. I anticipate being able to get our kitchen done for another $2000 at most.
Description of Work: Came back with quote more than double what they said it would cost.

We called Nutter Handyman Services to request an electrician come to our home to replace our bathroom light fixtures. The owner, Chuck Nutter, explained their "priority scheduling", and scheduled one of his staff to complete the work. We were more than happy to pay extra to get the light fixtures switched in a hurry before our party. Nutter Handyman's employee was friendly & professional. We highly recommend Nutter Handyman Services to our neighbors, friends & Angie's list members because they are professionals you can trust to be in your home & complete the job in a timely fashion. We hope to use Nutter Handyman Services again in the future.

Impossible to fully describe the aggressive behavior of this guy. We settled on a claim with the insurance company which was generous and carefully spelled out the scope and quality of work. He subsequently took every opportunity to try to undercut the contract and claim. I recommend reading carefully the reviews, whether work was perform or not. BUYER BEWARE!
Description of Work: We are new UA residents and our neighbors called him in for a water event. At first we were thankful to have a pit-bull in our corner. Subsequently, it became apparent that his goal was to take advantage of our circumstance. Rip off. He took every opportunity to take advantage of the insurance company and us. This was a 100K mistake!

We entered into a written contract with this customer to repair extensive damage to their residence caused by water damage, the cost of which was to be paid by her insurance company. Our contract price and scope of work was approved by the insurance company. In late April, for unknown reasons, the client would not meet with us to discuss questions and issues we had with regard to the work remaining. On May 1, without justification or explanation the customer sent us a letter through their attorney, announcing that they were immediately terminating our contract, thus depriving us of the right to finish the work and realize payment for the remaining work. Ironically, the customer has been utilizing our subcontractors to finish the work which we believe is indicative of the client’s intent to deprive us of our management and profit on such work.

The handyman, Dave, was on time and neatly dressed in the company's uniform. He was pleasant. He said he had 12 years of experience in framing and then some experience in remodeling. He looked at the soffit and fascia boards in question and suggested replacing only a section of the soffit and repairing the fascia board ends, which had rotted, one with putty, and the other larger section with a piece of redwood. He didn't think it was worth taking the gutters down to replace the fascia boards completely. He said he would send an estimate later. However, I did not receive one for at least 3 or 4 weeks. I finally called the office and pressed them for an estimate. The woman who answered the phone said that the worker had had a death in the family or something like that. She called me back a few days later and gave me an estimate on the phone of $1800 for the work and followed up with a written estimate. For the amount of work to be done, I thought the price was very expensive.
Description of Work: I called Nutter Handyman Services about a soffit and fascia board repair on my house. I made an appointment for about a week later. The handyman arrived on time to look at the work needed and give an estimate.

Two different people came out, the electrician and the handyman. The work on the weather proofing probably dragged over a couple days and the electrician was done in about a couple of hours as best I can remember. They were pleasant enough to work with, we were unhappy with the material that was used for the caulking. It had a horrible odor and it took several weeks to air out the sun-room to get rid of it. That and the cost were the two things we were unhappy with. We were not warned about the smell, but airing the room seemed the best and only thing we could do about it. For those reasons I would hesitate to recommend their service. I was perfectly satisfied with the electrician's work, he did an excellent.
Description of Work: They did a bunch of caulking. They changed the weather strips on the doors, as well as bringing in an electrician to fix the electric meter on the back of the house.

Demoed out stucco to reveal all rotten wood. Removed deteriorated band boards and installed new pressure treated band board. Removed bad framing and reframed wall. Covered wall with Tyveck and installed trim and z-bar flashing above windows. Cleared debris from crawl space. Repaired and painted stucco. The work performed was by Matt and Eric was excellent. They kept me informed as to what they were doing and the available alternatives. As with other projects, it is very nice to work with Carol who does the scheduling and makes sure that the project is finished timely. She actually managed to find a period between the rains for Matt to demo the wall and get it secured before the rains started again. The coordination between Matt and Carol was excellent.

would NEVER use a business that worked in this way.
Description of Work: I had seen this company's trucks around town and decided to call them to schedule. When the owner answered, I introduced myself and told him how I found out about his company. I mentioned that I needed services ASAP because I had guests coming in from out of town. He said they were booked out six weeks. He then said to me "we have another option" we have what we call a "Priority Call" where for double our hourly rate we will place you to the front of the list and we can schedule your work within three days. I found this response really unbelievable! I wonder what the customers that have already been waiting for their work to be done would feel knowing they are secretly being put off in order to gauge a more eager customer? I was shocked that they do business this way! In other words, if I'm willing to pay twice the price and inconvenience his other customers he was happy to help. I would NEVER do business with a company that thought that was normal business practice. He sounded like a used car salesman and I thought people should know how they run their business. Integrity, I think not!

Dear Mr. [Member Name Removed], I remember our conversation well. I apologize for any misunderstanding or miscommunication on my part but it's important you know how this all works from a scheduling perspective. We charge $90 per man hour, we have a one hour minimum and then will bill in 30 minute increments after our first full hour for our handyman services. We schedule our jobs based upon the date and time that our customers call into our office. Depending upon the time of year, our work backlog/que can be anywhere from 2 to 12 weeks. For customers that cannot wait 2 or 12 weeks, we offer a PRIORITY option that provides them an opportunity to jump to the head of the line and receive PRIORITY service.............but we charge extra for this option (as much as $150 additional for Same Day Service, which is in addition to our hourly rate of $90/man hour), because often times we are paying our staff overtime to squeeze another job into an already full schedule. We do not change ANY previous commitments to other customers when priority service is requested. We work the priority requests into our lunch hours or at the end of our scheduled day. I'm very sorry if I failed to communicate this to you effectively. From my recollection, you needed your work completed in a relatively short period of time and I was letting you know that the only way we could consider meeting your needs was by providing you with our "Priority" scheduling. I apologize for the poor communication on my end. Respectfully, Chuck Nutter

My daughter and son-in-law complained that the hot water in their house was only tepid. I examined the tank and could not see the pilot light. I assumed it was out. I tried to light it without apparent success. Rather than take the apparatus apart myself, I called Nutter. They explained that there was a minimum charge of $90 for someone to come to the house. I don't recall how much time the $90 would cover. Anyway, I agreed to the charge, and the technician arrived as promised. He also could not see the pilot from the outside of the tank, so he took it apart and found that it was lit. He put it back together and all has been well.

He was friendly, courteous, and neat. The charge was a little pricey, but worth it, and in line with their estimate. We've previously had Nutter re-screen a front door, and sharpen garden shears that another place said couldn't be sharpened. Both times the charges were very reasonable and the work was excellent. We are thrilled to have such a great hardware store in the neighborhood. They have never failed to be helpful and knowledgeable.
Description of Work: We contacted Nutter Hardware's handyman service to fix a bi-fold door that had never been right, despite my husband's repeated efforts to fix it. He had done so much to the door that we were afraid that it couldn't be fixed and would need to be replaced. They responded immediately, gave us an estimate and arrived promptly on the scheduled date. The handy man was here a little over 2 hours and at the end of that time the door worked perfectly and 8 months later still does!
