Our shower water would not get hot, only lukewarm. We knew it wasn't the hot water heater because the water from the sink faucets was hot. He knew it was a no-scald issue set on the shower faucet and fixed it immediately. He then took a look at the hot water heater and advised me where it should be set to avoid scalding which I then remedied.

Muetzel Plumbing came and had a look and confirmed it was not a propane leak after pressure testing the line and being very careful through the whole process. They were polite and gave us updates through the whole testing process. I was very happy for their methodical and intelligent approach.
Description of Work: We had a strange odor in an area of our basement near our crawlspace. We thought it may be a propane leak, but we weren't sure. We called the propane provider and shut off the valve, and they advised to call a plumber.

We had a potential frozen water pipe in the attic. After researching reviews on Angie's list & selecting a local plumbing company, I gave Muetzel a call. The receptionist / dispatcher was very courteous & there was actually a person who person who picks up the call vs numerous others who just 've voicemails & return ur call too late. Since it was late in the day, the dispatcher not only scheduled early next day appt but also reached out to tech to give me suggestion that I should keep the bath water dripping & maintain high heat to avoid any further damage. She even looked up weather forecast to anticipate issues! Next day, Brad (amazing tech) with his apprentice came. I was impressed with the truck & equipment they have - very professional & knew instantly they are the right ones to get the job done. We have a very tricky plumbing situation w/ ranch home on slab & pipes running thro' crawl built in 50's however the freeze issue was on a recent remodel where a prior plumber ran a cold water line thro the attic which is not very well insulated, thus it had heat tapes on it. Brad diagonized that the heat tapes were working & took extra steps to explain me how the pipe layouts work with the well situation. Next he popped into the attic - there-again very low tricky hard access situation between joist, joins, hvac ducts. Before going in, we popped back into the house & lo-behold, the pipes had unfroozen & cold water was running. Brad suggested few long-term solutions to run a pipe inside the house to prevent future freeze. However it didn't stop there... My tenants requested the plumbing company to actually access the difficult attic. Brad said he didn't have a suit to wear but will come back. In 2 hours he did come back & called me promptly - any other tech would have quit seeing my attic situation. In some kinda movie / kung-f* style body movement (think going under criss-crossing low laser beams) he found his way into the attic is when I said "Muetzel will NOT give up on you!!" however hard it may be. Brad was able to find a spot where there was no insulation & covered it up. He also tested that the heat tapes r working & where else this cold-water pipe ran for future issues. Miraculously he came out un-hurt without any damage. By doing so, he truly took care of the customer - in my case a tenant. Although the fix was relatively easy job (moving insulation on exposed part of pipe) its the communication, customer service, timeliness & by far the pursuit to do whatever it takes is what impressed me. Maybe I just happened to have the best tech "Brad" the company had. I will be calling on Muetzel in the next few days to offer me quotes on long-term solution of getting pipes in an heated area. For those like me who r not plumbing experts, its better leave such jobs at expert hands such as Muetzel - they would fix it right.

Had been experiencing a leak in my bathtub faucet. Tried to fix it myself without any success. Finally decided to avail myself of the services of a professional. Called Muetzel and ascertained that the thing to do would be to buy a new fixture and have them install it. Typically, it's difficult to deal with plumbers, contractors and the like. Not the case with this company. They were on time and efficient in completing the task. My only complaint was the price. Two hour job cost about $370, minus a discount from Angie's List. Not a complicated job, in my estimation. Still, it's hard to argue with the quality of the execution.

Shawn was prompt and very professional while doing the work. I was impressed that he would bring a piece of carpet to put down to protect my floor. He cleaned up and wiped down everything when he was finished and then took all debris with him I appreciate that he took the time to explain the procedure to me and that he did not charge me additional for the new pipe . Although it was more expensive to have the work done on a weekend, it was better than not being able to shower, brush teeth or wash dishes. I would recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: Friday night after a couple showers and washing dinner dishes, I found my bathtub filled with soapy water. I tried plunging but that didn't work. I baled the water out of the tub. More plunging but no success. The next morning, I called the plumber that I had used previously but they are not available on weekends. I then went to Angie's List to find another plumber. I called Muetzel Plumbing to see if they could help me. The young lady that answered the phone took my information and said someone would call me shortly. I did get a phone call and I was told that someone could be at my house about 10:00. I was also told that there was an extra fee for an emergency weekend call. Shawn came to my house about 9:45 and verified the problem. He checked the pipes in the basement and in the house. Since the toilet was working he said it was a plugged drain. He gave me the price of the Emergency call fee and the price to snake the drain. He put down carpeting before getting out his tools and then took the drain pipe apart and proceeded to snake the drain. In a very short time he had reached the clog and was getting that out. He checked the bathtub and the bathroom sink to be sure they was draining. As he was putting the kitchen sink pipe back, he said that the screw was slipping and went to the truck to get a new pipe to replace the bad part. He then rechecked all drains to be sure everything was working.

The reviews on Angies List should include both the good and the bad and this review will include both. My interaction with Muetzel began on November 24, 2012 when I had a clogged main drain in our basement. After another company was unable to clear the blockage, Muetzel Plumbing was called (by the suggestion of the tech of another company). The tech, David was dispatched quickly and was able to open the blockage. He even used a camera to diagnose a "belly" or depression in the pipe. He showed me the results on a video screen. When asking about my next move, he suggested calling the main office to schedule an estimate to replace this portion of the pipe. The tech performed the work on a Sunday afternoon. He was very upfront and forthcoming with the charges and I had no problem with services rendered on November 25, 2012. The problem with the service began with trying to schedule an estimate to replace the pipe. I called on November 26 to schedule a return visit to give me an estimate to replace the pipe. The woman scheduling the visit informed me that a tech would have to do a camera inspection of the pipe. When I told her that the tech had done the camera work the day before, she said because "he hadn't recorded it" so the camera would have to be repeated. She also didn't say anything about a charge to use the camera again. My scheduled return visit was December 5, 2012. The same tech who unclogged the pipe came back. We went to the basement and he wanted me to sign for the $ 190.00 charge to perform diagnostic services today. I told him at no time was a charge discussed when I scheduled with the Muetzel main office. He called "his boss" to see if the charges could be waived. He told me the charge would not be waived and I told him I would find another company to replace the pipe. My biggest fault with this company is that they should have been proactive in their first day of diagnosing the problem by recording the evidence they found via the camera. Instead they sent the same technician to give us a complete estimate for the work they would need to do. The tech said he would need to send the camera down again in order to record the problem; we asked them to waive this cost since they had already done this but had failed to record the evidence they found. The technician called his office but was told this cost could not be waived. Up to this point we had been pleased with their work and there was the likely chance we would have used them to complete the work, which we imagine will be several thousand dollars; however, their lack of willingness to waive a cost for something they had mismanaged (i.e. not recording the evidence they found the first time they sent down the camera), we lost confidence and trust in them and decided not to move forward any further but will seek estimates from other companies. Had this situation been handled with even the smallest consideration for customer service and some understanding, we might be scheduling this company to replace the section of pipe. As I have found out, replacing this pipe is going to very expensive. I hope this company realizes the business that was lost from my family.

Response from Muetzel Plumbing, Heating & Cooling
As always, upon reading this report, I did some internal investigation into what happen on this call in relation to what the customer was reporting. Everything reported by the Angies' List Member is correct. However, there are some clarifications that need to be relayed, to explain why my technician took the course of action as described. We were in fact successful in opeing the customer's drains and restore her home to free flow. This work was performed on an emergency basis on a Sunday afternoon. He did in fact use the camera in conjunction with our jetter to perform the work. He did discover a belly in the pipe which he showed to the customer. Finally, he suggested to the customer that she contact us to schedule another call during normal business hours to perform further investigation of the pipe belly in order to create a quote for the work. Everyone seemed to be on the same page until the customer called to schedule the follow up appointment. My dispatcher informed the customer, correctly, that the technician had not recorded the pipe's condition at the time of the emergency call. However, it was not fully explained to the customer that we needed to run the camera in conjunction with another piece of equipment called a locator to properly identify the exact location of the belly, the depth of the sanitary, and the extent of the repairs needed. This process takes about an hour to perform. The actual recording of the interior of the piping is secondary to everything listed in the previous sentance. The diagnosis and fact finding that we need to do, to accurately assess the repairs that need to be done and the costs associated with these repairs, are not the same as clearing a drain and using a camera to verify it was cleared properly. If my technician had spent the time gathering up all of the additional information needed, during the original emergency after hours call, the customer would have been charged overtime rates to do this. My technician felt, with the emergency removed, there was no reason to charge overtime rates to do the additional diagnosis work. Since we do not charge any trip fees for regular hour serivce work, this work would have been cheaper to perform during our normal business hours. I agree with his assessment and course of action in this sitution. However, I do not believe that the customer was given the full explanation of what we were doing and why. I believe that this complaint would have not occurred had the full explanation been given. I talked with the dispatcher and the technician about this whole situation. In particular, I noted that too many assumptions were being made by everyone, about what they felt everyone else knew and understood. Communication is key in these situations. By reading the comments of the customer, it appears to me that they thought we were going to charge them to merely put the camera back into the pipe and hit the record button. I would be upset also, as a business owner and with my technician, if this was in fact the case. I hope my response helps the members to weigh the situation from both sides of the fence. As an aside, I have contacted the customer and invited her to call me about this situation. I have not spoken with her yet, but I want to apologize for the confusion that was created. Thanks for the post and reading my response. Sincerely Andy Muetzel Muetzel Plumbing & Heating Company

Very professional. Very up front that they price by the outcome or job and not by the hour. One sink didn't even have anything wrong with it (no charge for that information). They don't work until the estimate is done and you agree. No trip charge. These are all wonderful qualities that I only wish every service provider would do. The prices were very high. We will live with it for a while, try some of our own fixes, and maybe hire someone else (they will charge for the trip, and we won't know the bill until their done, at which point they charge by the hour, so they will take their time and it might work out to be the same price).

Muetzel was great scheduleing exactly when I had time in my schedule. Steve came out and surveyed the three jobs that I had and provided a quote on the spot. From the call to their office - recommended by Angie's List - to the serviceman at installation, it went very smoothly.

He explained the work, the size of the tank and let us know the approximate cost involved. We were very happy with their service, and it was nice they billed us instead of needing a check the day of installation. We will definitely call them again.

I think this company is top notch. From the onset when you set an appointment, they explain their services and how they charge so you are fully aware of what to expect when they come. They put covers over their shoes WITHOUT you having to ask (love it). They gave me several options on how they could approach the problem (in case I wasn't ready to cut the drywall and see what was really going on). We opted to cut the ceiling so they could get in there. They showed me what was happening once they found the problem - answered questions that I had - and got to work. This company made me feel confident that they knew what they were doing and involved me in what options were available and the consequences of each option. Wow! I highly recommend them and wish there were more companies out there like this!
Description of Work: We found water damage on our drywalled basement ceiling. Our master bath is directly above, but we didn't know what was leaking. Muetzel came out. They noticed that the original plumber (new home) never sealed the faucet, but there were no easy access points to see the pipes. Since they couldn't readily see the pipes, they gave me several options on how they could handle the problem. We opted to cut the drywall so we knew exactly what was happening. They found that the master shower was leaking around the drain and replaced it. They also sealed the faucet.

Mike with Muetzel Plumbing promptly came by to give me a no cost estimate, making sure I had all exact fitting, fixture, and drain pieces ready to go. When he determined that I needed slightly different chrome water supply lines from what I had ordered (tip: always buy the matching water supply lines that go with these fixtures), we made two future appointments since the job had to be done in two separate stages due to marble tile work that needed to be done first. All was well worth the wait. Today, he came as planned and connected all perfectly thanks to his years of skill, patience, and experience.

We had a leak from our upstairs bathroom shower into the kitchen below. I contacted the plumber because my parents were coming to visit within a few days, and I needed the work done quickly. They were able to schedule me in, and came on time. The plumber figured out what was wrong, and told us that there was a 50/50 chance of being able to repair it without taking out the bathroom tiles. This was all part of the free estimate. He was very upfront that the simple repair might not work and we would have to go behind the tile. There was no pressure on our part to have the work done. We went ahead, and he did manage to repair the shower without having to take down the tiles. He also put up with our two obnoxious dogs and curious daughter. I did not expect such good quick service. I especially appreciate that he didn't gloss over the fact that the repair might not work using the simple fix. It was a risk we took, and it worked out. If it had not, we would have paid for the more extensive work.

It went very well. He was very professional and it didn't take as long as I expected.
Description of Work: Due to my own error, I left the water hose attached to the oursite spicket. When I tried to use, there was no, or very little pressure. I checked in the basement and saw the line was busted. I called Muetzel from Angie's List. Actually the explanation given of why estimates were not given over the phone convinced me to use them. I also told them I wanted the sump pump checked since I have been in the house for over 13 years. I never hear the pump running. They came out today, they called me about 30 minutes before they arrived. I was at work, so I didn't have to take off the whole day and sit around and wait. I explained the problem and he found it right away. I also asked about the pump, so we decided to put water in it to see if it would kick on. We put about 5 buckets in, covering the float but it did not kick on. I decided to do both jobs and have it taken care of. Better now, than a true emergency.
