He was very professional, very thorough, and respectful of me and my home. He was efficient with his time. He told me in order to locate the leak exactly, he would have to cut the ceiling open, which I okayed. Due to the leak appearing to be in two different areas of the ceiling, he had to create two holes, which we will repair, I have no problems with that. My only complaint was the cost climbed a bit, finding the leaks and soldering in new pipe took some time, but reseating the toilet seemed overpriced at over $100 for that alone. He said we could have done it, but my husband had recently had surgery on his hand, and I didn't want him to reinjure it, so it was probably worth it, it just seemed kind of expensive. I think it was $135 just for that, and considering it took a short period of time, I thought it was a little expensive-on the other hand, who wants to do that task? So, we paid. I am very pleased with the outcome however, and would use them again. The cost just seemed kind of high for that one part of the service. He didn't try to sell me anything expensive, he was thorough, he worked quickly, efficiently and well, and solved our problems (when we did the additional caulking). We haven't seen a drop of water! UPDATE: the tub leak is still there, we haven't been able to stop the leak, after caulking it is still dripping...I think it might be a different problem than he thought.
Description of Work: Checked for leaks from upstairs plumbing, out of two bathrooms, discovered causes and repaired a pinhole leak and gave advice on recaulking edge of tube where water ran under the tub. Reset downstairs bathroom toilet wax seal to fix leak there also. The cost for reseating the toilet seemed high.

This was easy to schedule and the plumber arrived on time. He explained to me what he would be doing and how much the materials would cost. He finished quickly and cleaned up after himself. He was friendly and professional. I asked him for some information about the possibility of putting gas logs in a small fireplace and he answered all of my questions.
Description of Work: I bought a Big Deal in order to get my upstairs toilet rebuilt due to water constantly running. There was an additional charge for the materials, which I had expected.

We had multiple minor plumbing issues after moving into our new house. The water connection to the refrigerator was broken, the garbage disposal had been broken by our tile guys, bathroom sink needed repair, etc. I called McDermott plumbing and they were extremely accommodating with our tight schedule, and arranged to come do the work within 2 days and on off-hours. He was prompt, friendly and knowledgeable. The work they did was great and we were very pleased. We called them again to install multiple new fixtures on sinks throughout the house and will definitely use them again. Highly reliable and pleasant company.

This was an easy transaction from start to finish. It was easy to set up the appointment; the plumber was on time; the work was very satisfactory; the cost was very reasonable. The only thing I would fault is that the company was supposed to email me a quote on replacing the water heater. I never receiver that, but it's a small matter. I'll solicit quotes from several companies when I am ready.
Description of Work: This was an Angie's List deal for 2 hours of plumbing work. The plumber cleared 2 drains, reset drain closers on several sinks, checked the water heater, and replaced a section of pipe for the furnace exhaust. There was a little extra expense for OT and the pipe he replaced.

I called and spoke with Mike. I explained that our toilet was leaking. My husband had already drained and removed the toilet, in order to replace the wax ring. When he removed the toilet, it was apparent that it was the piece underneath the wax ring that was completely corroded. Mike told me that it was the flange. He said he could come by during the week to replace it. I said that I had planned on purchasing the Angie's List Big Deal for that and whether that would work. He said yes. I knew that the deal was for a maximum of 2 hours, so I asked if the job was something that could be done in 2 hours, and he said about that it should be about that much time. We discussed available time-frames - I told him I would call back once I spoke with my husband. I called back and left a message for him with the 2 best times. Almost 24 hours later we did not hear back from him, so my husband called again and was successful in setting a time for the following day, for a 12 noon - 3 pm time-frame. We did get a courtesy call 30 minutes prior to arrival, which was 2 pm. Chris introduced himself, and put on shoe covers. As I brought him to the powder room, he asked to see the Angie's List coupon. When I showed it to him, he apologized and said that replacing the flange was not 1 of the 7 covered services - only resetting the toilet was covered. I didn't understand why that wasn't covered, as it was necessary to replace the flange before resetting the toilet, and Mike knew I needed the flange replaced. He said there was a $149 charge to replace the flange, which would be in addition to the $99 I had already spent for the deal. But he said he would call Mike and see what he said. Mike said that he would apply the $99 to the $149 charge, which at first seemed a decent compromise. In any case, I had already purchased the coupon and needed the toilet fixed. Chris was very polite and worked quickly and neatly. After about an hour, he was essentially done with the entire job, and asked if I had leftover grout. I gave him the grout and after testing, he was done 15 minutes later. So, the entire job was 1 hour and 15 minutes. The deal that I purchased was to reset the toilet for $99 with up to 2 hours of labor. So the fact that the replacement of the flange, which was a necessary part of the job, and was still done with plenty of time to spare was not covered didn't make sense. Because Chris didn't even have to drain or remove the toilet, and therefore a lot of labor was saved, I asked to speak with Mike. Chris said he would try to get him on the phone. Chris called him from the truck, and 15 minutes later, came back in and apologized, but said that there was nothing else he could do. Mike was busy, but would call me later. Needless to say, Mike never did call. I suppose I could have asked more questions up front, but can't help but feel that I was mislead. The fact that Chris almost immediately asked to see the coupon (so Mike clearly did understand I planned on buying and using the coupon), and quickly told me that the coupon wasn't good for the job - why didn't Mike explain that when I called? How could the coupon be good for resetting a toilet, and up to 2 hours, and yet the 1 1/4 hour total job wasn't covered? $149 for 1 1/4 hours of labor, plus a charge for the part, does not strike me as a deal at all! That's $119/hour for labor!

I called McDermott Plumbing in the morning and they showed up about noon the same day. They replaced the old heater in quick order. They were very professional, polite and cleaned everything up. I was very pleased with their work. I had them back the next day to change out a water faucet. They would have changed it the same day as the heater, but needed to get to another client. I have a couple projects that need done and I will certainly use them again.

I purchased a Big Deal from Angie's I had a little trouble getting ahold of McDermott Plumbing, we played phone tag for several days. Once I was able to get ahold of them they we very courteous, and scheduled a time for the work. On the day of the scheduled work the plumber was running late due to being short staffed because of illness in the office which had sidelined 2 of the other plumbers. Upon entering our house the plumber removed his work boots so as to not track up our floors, I told him it was not necessary but he insisted. He surveyed the jobs that I had requested and gave me an estimate of the time required. The first job he tackled was the bathroom sink which has been slow since we moved in, even after numerous attempts on our part to get the draining working. He first tried to snake out the pipe and a few other things, however 40+ years of hard water had taken a toll on the drain so he was forced to cut out and replace a section of the pipe. Next he worked on our bathtub, this was a much easier job and had the drain working in no time. Then he tackled the dishwasher hook up and had that cleaned up and running properly. The plumber was very professional and courteous he cleaned up following his work. He answered questions I had about the plumbing giving me helpful suggestions and telling what to look for in plumbing supplies. I was very pleased with the work performed and would recommend McDermott Plumbing to others.

Not great. The guy right away said the faucets we purchased had the wrong connections and that there was a slight leak that would get worse if he didn't fix it, so he had to have a check for $50 upfront (on top of the amount paid with the Angie's Big Deal). I have done plumbing so I know the connectors and new shutoff valve don't cost anywhere near that amount. Then, the drain stopper in one of the sinks stopped working after about a week, so if I close the drain, I have to use something (like a screwdriver) to pry it open so the sink can drain. These problems may have been because they used a student to do the work. I know he said they were really busy because of the business they got from the Angie's Big Deal. I would not use this plumber again.

this is the second time we have used McDermott Plumbing, and both times the service has been been excellent. Mike came out the day after we called about a non-functioning garbage disposal, diagnosed the problem as in the motor, and recommended instaling a new one, which he had in stock on his truck. ( We completely agreed that it did not make sense to go to the labor expense of taking apart and trying to fix a $100 appliance.) Mike was done in about 45 minutes, not only cleaned up my sink, but cleaned the under cabinet area (which really needed it), and honored a 25% off Angie's List coupon. He gave us some tips on how to extend the life of a disposal, and was even tolerant of our 2 barking dogs. McDermott is my go-to company for plumbing.

I had a 10:00 am appointment. The plumber called because he was just a few minutes late, which is incredible seeing that many of the schools in Franklin County were closed due to the icy conditions. Chris with McDermott Plumbing did an exceptional job repairing the shower faucet and replacing an exterior faucet. I had a previous plumber out to repair the shower faucet and he was unable and unwilling to tackle the shower faucet repair, whereas Chris with a lot of patience and understanding was able to immediately identify and repair the problem. I purchased a replacement shower unit at Lowes to be available to the plumber in case the existent unit could not be repaired. Chris could have easily elected to replace the entire unit but do to his efforts he was able to repair the problem and save me a significant amount of money. I would definitely contact McDermott Plumbing for any future plumbing needs.

. Although the toilet is old - I think inside parts need replaced. If they aren't going to do it right - don't bother. The cost of parts seemed very high. The part McDermott said he ordered must be traveling thru time. No thanks on Angie's coupon. I'd love a plumber recommendations who know old plumbing. I've used more that 20 plumbers in Columbus - all crap.
Description of Work: Fixed 2 toilets & replaced trap part in bathroom sink. This work fook for 2 hours including buying parts. It cost me more than $300 beyond the coupon. One of the toilets stopped working 2 days later. Subsequent phone call to Mr. McDermott indicated he would "order the part". I have yet to hear back from him.

I bought the 2 hours labor and called McDermott to schedule. I had much more work than the 2 hours to be done as I am putting in a new bathroom. I had questions and wanted McDermott to come to give an estimate for total work. They told me that I am out of their normal work area so they could not give me a free estimate. We talked about them installing a shower valve but I needed more information. I did not have the shower valve or fixtures but McDermott wanted me to buy them and have them here or they could buy them. I had questions about the other fixtures for whirlpool tub with hand held sprayer and did not know if I could get everything I needed in the same style. I decided that since I was out of the work area I should just get a refund and hire someone closer. I don’t know what an estimate would have cost but I think it would have taken away from the Big Deal.

Customer Responsiveness: From Dec 4th through December 21st, my emails to McDermott requesting a receipt for the work went unanswered. After a phone call I was provided a receipt (#257965060) on December 29th which showed I had been charged $124 for either an Angies coupon (or possibly a flush assembly the invoice was unclear) and $159.00 for an additional hour of time. During the month of January, I sent several emails and text messages to McDermott requesting a refund for the Angies coupon amount but have received no acknowledgement or response. If the $124 is cost of the flush assembly then I feel overcharged by paying $283 (including $159 extra hour) for getting a flush assembly installed. I assumed it would be only slightly more than the $20 dollar component at the home depot 1 mile from the house. From his arrival until completed all the work took a total of 3 hours, which included his 45 - 60 minute travel to find the flush valve. Workmanship/Professionalism: Approximately 10 days later my daughter returned from college and decided to take a leisurely bath in the second bathroom. As she relaxed in the tub, letting the water fill up to the overflow water came pouring down from the second floor to the basement. After cleanup, I inspected the the overflow area and found that the mounting of the cover plate was done in a purely cosmetic way. Because the plumber had been unable to remove the broken screws mentioned above, he had secured the cover plate to the tub and not to the overflow pipe. This meant that the gasket that prevents leaking when compressed by the cover plate pulling the overflow pipe against the tub was bypassed and enabled water to poor onto the floor behind the tub. I was surprised by this, as I had specifically asked the plumber to tell me if he could not remove the screws. I purchased a new gasket and utilizing the aircraft adhesive I had, completed the repair which I have tested for several minutes of overflow without any leakage. Video: Video of results can be seen at the following links: http://bit.ly/WM8h9u http://bit.ly/Y19JSz http://bit.ly/11tyAFl As you view the video, you may hear some hammering in the background. This was our new wood floors going in on the first floor. Which of course only heightened our concern for possible damage caused by the plumbing failure.
Description of Work: Situation: Our house had two bathtubs which needed to have the drain valve replaced as the plungers did not seat well and resulted in a slow leak. Additionally, the second tub also had the problem in that the screws holding the cover plate for the overflow were broken. I saw McDermott's Angie's deal $99 for 2 hours plumbing less parts. I called McDermott Plumbing to confirm that they could replace the drains. I purchased Angie's deal $99 for 2 hours plumbing less parts (# Plumbing-507626-1). I purchased the drains and an new cover plate from Home Depot. I scheduled their appointment and forwarded them a copy of the Angies list coupon. They arrived on time as scheduled. I also asked the plumber to check out a toilet whose flapper would not sit securely resulting in a slow drain of the tank water into the toilet bowl. Service Performed: The plumber reviewed the situation and began work. The plumber was able to adjust the fist tub's drain stopper so that it would no longer leak. Problem solved in 20 minutes. The second tub needed the drain and cover replaced. The plumber pointed out that if he was unable to remove the broken screws from the overflow valve, then he would have to open the wall behind the tub to replace the piece of pipe with the broken screws. I directed the plumber to let me know if he was unable to remove the screws as I had an alternative approach involving a high strength adhesive (used for securing metal joints on aircraft) that could secure that would bond the screw plate receptor to the pipe, thus enabling the cover plate to be mounted correctly which would compress the gasket between the overflow pipe and the tub. The plumber was through in about 45 minutes. Said everything was fine and turned his attention to the toliet. (I assumed he had been able to remove the broken screws.) After about 15 to 20 minutes, he said that the flapper was connected to the valve and that the flush assembly would need to be replaced. He left and returned completed the work. I was unavailable and he presented my wife with an invoice for $283. Which she paid. Total investment at this point was $382.00 This seemed high as two hours had already been paid for via the Angies coupon.

We have used McDermott two times now. The first was with a Angie's List deal for 2 hours of plumbing and then we used again for a leak on washer piping. Each time Chris did an exceptional job. He is very polite and professional. He apologized profusely for a tad bit of tardiness which he did alert us to with a phone call. He was very thorough and we would definitely use again without question. Great job!
Description of Work: A Washer handle on our piping was leaking causing carpet saturation in our basement. We also had a sink unclogged and a washer line split for multiple units to be hooked up to. This was a more significant job with additonal piping needs.
