Matt's Deck and Fence

First of all, I also had to hire a separate contractor to complete the fire pit and paver project that he abandoned, for which I had paid. Then, materials used on the deck started to deteriorate. I had no recourse because Matt didn't register them with Lowe's, so I didn't get any information on the recall. I had to hire another contractor to rip out the deck and replace it with better materials that wouldn't mold or warp. This cost me over twice what I paid to him for the original contract. Don't trust this company with any job over an hour to complete, and DON'T PAY UNTIL YOU ARE SATISFIED THAT IT IS DONE COMPLETELY AND CORRECTLY!!!!

He helped us out to do some of the projects that were over our head. He's knowledgeable and willing to teach us and pass on helpful hints. He does really good work and he's super fast.

Steps down from the deck were to end in a paver pathway to a firepit. The pavers never got installed. They also were to do short retaining walls around the planting beds in the front of the house, but only got 2/3 of that accomplished. I had to have other companies come to complete the work as best that could be. The roof on the deck also has not yet been installed. I went through BBB and Ohio State Attorney General's office with no resolution, so I took him to court. I was able to win a judgment against him, but he never showed up and is now in contempt and a warrant has been issued for his arrest. I have further taken the matter to the OAG, who is working on a project to affect his ( and others?) ability to do business in the state of Ohio. I will also be contacting the Ohio State Tax Authority and IRS because he has never registered his business with the state and is not paying taxes on it. He never registered the purchase of the composite decking materials with the manufacturer (nor did he give me that paperwork) and now I have lost out on a manufacturer's "recall" concerning mold buildup on the decking materials and will have to absorb the cost of that as well.

The experience was absolutely awful! We agreed upon a contract. When he first came to the house, he realized that his design would not work and had to make changes on the spot. We later noticed that he did not use cement to support the posts, and the posts themselves were half the size as the standard requirement for a deck this height. Matt did not return to the job and would not refund our money for the materials that he had not purchased. We gave him $1800 up front for the cost of materials. He purchased less than $700 in materials and refused to refund our money. We later found that taking him to court would result in us ultimately being responsible for the collection of an amount we were awarded. This was absolutely the worst experience I have ever had with a contractor. It has been expensive and emotionally draining to work with Matt. He is a far cry from a professional.

MATT'S ATTENTION TO DETAIL IS UNMATCHED. HE PRIDES HIMSELF ON DOING JOBS PERFECTLY. HE IS A VERY POLITE AND CONSIDERATE PROFESSIONAL AS WELL AS ENJOYABLE TO BE AROUND. HE THOROUGHLY CLEANED UP ALL THE DEBRI FROM THE JOB. HIS PRICE WAS ABOUT 15% LOWER THAN OTHER ESTIMATES I HAD RECEIVED FOR THE SAME WORK. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND MATT TO OTHER POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS.

THIS IS TWO DECKS CONNECTED BY A BOARDWALK, THEY HAVE FINALLY FINISHED ONE PART OF IT BUT I CAN'T GET THEM TO FINISH THE REST. THEY DON'T SHOW UP WHEN THEY SAY WILL, THEY RARELY, IF EVER, RETURN PHONE CALLS.
