They had the item in stock whereas the other home improvement stores didn't have it in stock, even though their inventory said otherwise. The personality of the store was very quite pleasant when contrasted with my experience at the comparable store. Everyone was polite and curious.

They replaced the flooring and remodeled my kitchen. The kitchen was a disaster before they did the work, it looked amazing when they were finished. I had previously used a Lowe's for a remodel, so I decided to use them again for this remodel. They helped me choose the flooring and they were very knowledgeable. They ask that you rate them when the job is complete and they stand behind their work with a warranty. The contractors that they hire have been checked and are only kept on the list to do these jobs if they do good work.

Usually I have had impeccable service from Lowes and I am truly disappointed in their service this time.
Description of Work: I purchased a drop-in range from Lowes and just had it delivered. I was told that Lowes would deliver, install and take away the old drop in range. They do not. I was lucky that the guys were willing to bring the range into the kitchen. Now I have to hire an electrician and/or a contractor to do the installation (and of course they tell me all of this 15 minutes after the electrician closes for the day).

carpet installation

Initially, the installation went very well. We had the carpet installed in December, 2009, and it is a nylon berber carpet. The problems started after about 13 months after install (January-February 2011). After living on the carpet for just over a year (conveniently after the installation expired), we started noticing wrinkles. It started in the rooms with the most traffic - our living room and office area. Then this spring we started to see them in the hallways and bedrooms this summer. I started calling around to carpet repair services to see what it would take to get everything - the whole house - restretched. I am looking at over $1000 in labor to do this work and repair the shoddy job that Lowe's contractor - Builders Resource - did on my carpet. Knowing that my warranty expired, I took a chance and decided to call Lowe's on Brice Road to see if they were willing to work with me. The installation manager at the store very quickly and promptly returned my call and said that Gail, the owner of Builders Resource, the sub-contractor who had done the work, would be calling me to schedule an appointment and come out and look at the house. The installation manager also said that he was creating an open work order for the job and that they would come out and fix the carpet at no cost to me. I was elated that Lowe's was willing to help fix this problem, However, it has been two weeks and Gail has not called. I've called her company and left messages, with no return phone call. Clearly, Lowe's is not monitoring their contractors' performance and because this job is not going to make Builders Resource any money, it is not a priority for them. I am very disappointed and will never use an installer from Lowe's again. I'll use Angie's list to find a reputable, knowledgeable craftsperson. UPDATE 8/22/11: I finally made contact with Builders Resource. They sent their carpet repair person out to look at my home and tell me what was needed. The young man who came was very nice and pleasant, but I was not confident that he knew how to truly fix the carpet versus just getting this job crossed off the list. For example, he didn't believe we would need to move any furniture and that they would just work around it. He also told me that they would tack the carpet in place around vents so they wouldn't have to cut it again. This was all contrary to the advice and consultation I received from other carpet repair services. I decided to spend $500 out of pocket for a different contractor to come in and fix the carpet the right way rather than spend any more time with Builders Resource, who only seemed interested in "get her done."
Description of Work: I purchased 1300 square feet of carpet from Lowe's for installation in my entire house. I also utilized Lowe's installation services (Lowe's subcontractor) to do the job.

I went to Lowe's to buy a washer and dryer for my new house. Having just moved, I had a 10% off coupon that you get in the change of address packets. I chose an Electorlux washer and dryer which happened to be on sale. I informed the salesperson that I had the 10% off coupon, and she said that all I had to do was give it to the cashier and it would automatically deduct from the price. Well, I wen to pay for the washer and dryer as well as some other supplies and the 10% was deducted off of everything but the washer and dryer. they got the store manager for me to talk to, who told me that the coupon can't be applied to sale items. Had I known that, I would've selected the near identical model for the same price that wasn't on sale. After much discussion, the store manager agreed to give me the 10% off on the washer and dryer I had bought. The washer and dryer I had were "returned" and then bought them again. This resulted in an extra $1600 being taken out of my bank account for a couple days until the refund was processed. Somehow, during the time I made the original purchase and the time that the manager tried to reorder (about 20 minutes) the washer and dryer I had wanted sold out and was discontinued. So, the order was changed to the new model year washer and dryer with same features for the same price. 10 days later, I was called and told that the appliances were in and scheduled an installation date. A few hours later, I received a call from the original salesperson. Turns out, when the manager changed the order to the new model year appliances, instead of a washer and dryer, he ordered 2 dryers. So one dryer was "returned" and the washer was ordered (again, having an extra $800 pulled out of my account for a couple days until the refund was processed.) Another 10 days later, I get the call saying that they have both the washer and dryer and want to deliver tomorrow. I told them that was fine as long as it was after 2pm. On the day of the delivery, I had not received any calls saying about what time they would be arriving. At 7pm, I called the store to get an update. They were unable to get a hold of the delivery people and said they would call me back when they heard from them. About 30 minutes later, the store called back saying they would be arriving sometime between 8:30p-9:00. At 9:10p, they finally arrive. One of the dryer accessories I had ordered and was supposed to be delivered was not included for some reason. But everything necessary for the install was there. While they loaded in the washer and dryer, one of the delivery people said they had tried calling me but were getting a pre-recorded message stating that the number had been changed. Despite giving just my cell number to Lowe's, (which they had called everytime there was an update) the delivery crew somehow had my old home number in Virginia (I assume from when I ordered an appliance from a Lowe's down there several years ago.) Why they didn't bother to try the number the recording listed is beyond me. By 10pm, the installers were done. They started both the washer and dryer and say let it run once before using and they left. After about 10 minutes, we notice a large amount of water pouring out from underneath the washer. We quickly turned the washer off and mopped up. We initially thought that after all the headaches, we somehow got a faulty washer. But then we noticed that the install crew failed to hook up the drainage hose, so the water was just dumping on the floor. We hooked up the drainage hose ourselves and everything worked fine. While I appreciate the effort of the salesperson and manager to keep me satisfied, the problems that occurred at every step of the process makes me hesitant to give them another shot for a big ticket item(s).
Description of Work: Bought and had installed a new washer and dryer for my new home.

Lowes subcontracted the installation of the carpet. The quality of the work was lousy. I wanted the carpet turned and tacked and butted up against the ceramic tile in all the places where the carpet and tile met. Instead they just cut it off leaving the frayed edge of the carpet exposed as well as the edge of the tile. There are metal tracks for folding doors on the closets. The frayed ends of the carpet showed at the closet door tracks as well. The seams where the carpet was spliced were also visible. Not only are seams visible at the bedroom and bathroom doorways, there is also a seam running all the way across the middle of the living room floor and you can see it. The carpet at the entry to the kitchen was about 3/8" below the level of the tile. Lowes sent the contractor back twice to fix it but it never did look any better. Over a period of about 3 months either an employee on my behalf or myself had about 15 different conversations with different Lowes personnel including the home office and the store manager. After it was apparent that all that would ever happen was another band aid fix and more talk, I just gave up and told them to forget about it. Lowes was always very polite and willing to discuss the problem and pursue possible solutions. But, they were not willing to spend any real money to correct the problem. In my opinion, they hired a contractor that was incompetent. I asked that a different contractor work on the carpet but they refused. ( That would have cost something ). After the installation I was told that it was not specificly stated in my paper work that I wanted the carpet turned at the edge of the tile. This was true. They laid a lot of blame on how the tile was laid and how the floor was etc. I was told all the reasons that they couldn't do the job properly, AFTER the job was done. I suppose if you hire your own carpet expert to go to Lowes with you and advise you on every possible pit fall and then you take your contract to your lawyer and go over it together line by line then you'll probably be allright. But, if you're careless as I was and just assume that you can relax because Lowes is an expert that has your best inteterst in mind... Then you might be a little bit surprised when they slop down your carpet however they feel like and you just have to live with it. I didn't give Lowes an F because they were friendly and polite. But, bottom line is this: My carpet looks terrible and they were a pain in the butt. I won't be back to Lowes again for installation of anything.

I wanted to install two shelves in my garage, as I searched for the best product. I noticed that they had shelving that was designed for the garage and shelving for closets, the shelving for the closet was less expensive. I stopped one of the employees to ask for help and he was able to give me great advice on what to get and how to keep the costs low by going with the shelving that was designed for closets. He gave me some great advice and showed me how to install it.

This is a very mixed tale. I was told it would be at most, a 2 day job. The quality of the product is perfect. The subs who did the install were professional and their work was flawless. They are, however, located quite some distance from Columbus and had to factor extensive drive time into the project. But starting at the beginning-went to Lowe's due to an ad in the paper. Chose the floor quickly, and the man who did the measuring/price quote was here promptly. He gave a number of caveats and explanations clearly (ie. the need to plane a door, other install issues). Went back to the store when told quote was complete to sign and return sample. Waited for 30 minutes (and pushed the button for help if no one around twice-got told someone would be right there both times. Department not busy. Finally found someone in another area stocking something to help me AND then the quote was NOT finished and had to be figured then. Almost an hour of wasted time. The materials were delivered on time. Installers came and started on flooring and found that over half of the material was the wrong color (hence the question "M'am? Did you want the floor in two colors?" This is an in stock product, in both colors, by-the-way. The folks who handled to problems as I called in were very good, but had to talk to umpteen people who blamed each other "I don't pull the order, I just load what they give me" etc. All of which I am sure is quite true and everyone was nice. But the installers, obviously had to do other jobs until the correct material came, and then needing to complete those delayed us longer. THEN one of the correct color packages was defective-most of the sheets were blotched and unusable (this was not a cheap product) and a week had passed. They stayed and literally pieced the good parts together to finish late in the evening and I told them to throw away the rest. I did not call the store yet again, because the entire thing was done, I love the floor, and just wanted to have my kitchen usable. Point of this-it really was "somebody, nobody, everybody, anybody" when it came to integrating the processes and lots of finger pointing to go around. I would go to an independent next time off of Angie's list.

So, next week comes and so do my countertops with the sink placed where the stove goes! But it takes 20 min for this guy to admit that was the problem. He was walking around pointing out how I didn't have this and that done right and this wasn't level and so on. After I fixed all of his nitpicking he then starts telling me the last time he came out to take measurements the person that let him in told him that is where the sink goes. That person happened to be the plumber. Bold face lies with a condescending attitude to boot. Several unreturned phone calls, having to go through the corporate office and three weeks later they finally released me from the contract. I work in customer service and know how things can fall through the cracks. I gave them several chances to make it right because I like that store. They offered me 10% off after I had my workers on retainer for all of that time. I was treated with insult and condensation throughout the whole process. Never again!
Description of Work: I hired Lowe's to install countertops for my kitchen remodel. Three different people came to take measurements. The first one was from Lowe's and the other two were from the subcontracted company Rockbridge. The first day set for delivery, I was lied to about a crew being stuck somewhere and needing to reschedule for Friday. How do I know it was a lie? Because they called back 2 hours later and told me my sink was not in (mind you on delivery day), and it would not be in until next week.

They did an excellent job with the installation. I had a problem after a refrigerator was installed, the installers from a different company gouged the flooring. I contacted Lowe's to have the installer come back at my cost, and reinstall new laminate wood, but they have not been responsive. It took several telephone calls, they did finally send a representative out to examine the floor and he said they would do the job and it would only take 5 or 6 hours. He said he would give the information to his boss and get back to me with an estimate. He never followed through and they have not been responsive to my request. The initial experience with the installation was great, but getting them back out has been a big hassle and I shouldn't have to hound them to get a response. I've been dealing with Joe Woodenburn, and he is the installation manager with Lowe's (614)575-6000 x7. I would like them to follow through and give a quote, and then complete the repair as they said they would.
