Mike came for an assessment and an estimate on the day we called. They came two days later and spent the day replacing the water supply line from the street to the meter. The had all the equipment for the job and worked efficiently. There were some complications because of the rocky soil, but they moved quickly to Plan B. They repaired the holes they had to dig exceptionally well. We are happy with the work they did.

We noticed a leak coming out from our curb stop water tap. After having a City inspector come out, we were told we had a leak in our water line. I called several other companies, and I went with Mike Kapp. The city gave me a 6 day notice, and I got an extension, and Mike Kapp was able to perform the work within 2 weeks of our leak notice. He had to dig a big hole in our yard, but it is now barely noticeable, and he didn't damage any plants, trees, or have to tear into my neighbor's yard.

Excellent service. I noticed water seeping thru the wall and could hear water running near my meter in the basement. The first plumber I called said he could not hear water running and advised putting a dehumidifier there to dry it out. Wrong answer. He did suggest that if I was concerned, I should call the city water department. So I made the call and they advised that I was responsible for the repair and had one week to fix the leak or they would have to shut off the water. Ok, not great news. I was home ill that day so I headed to Angie's list and chose Kapp Excavating. I called Mike and left a message. My call was returned in about an hour, by him, and he came out later that day, assessed the situation, gave me an estimate and when he would be available to do the work. We agreed on a start date which was met. He and another person did the work and he kept in contact with me by phone as I was unable to be there. He even had the city come out and inspect the job while he was there so I did not have to take time off work. I really appreciated that. Everything was cleaned up and the front yard put back in order. Everything was handled professionally from start to finish. Thanks Mike!

The work was completed as scheduled and was done to our satisfaction.
Description of Work: The water company left a note on the front door that we had a water leak on our side of the meter, They provided a list of plumbers that would do the work -- but would not recommend any one for work quality, We went to Angie's list for that. Kapp Excavating had some recommendations that we liked so we hired them. My only complaint was the price which was more because we were unprepared for the expense than it was because I really knew that it was expensive. They dug up the old pipe and replaced it with new and replaced the soil. They were careful to keep the property as neat and the grass as healthy as possible. When they could not come at the time they promised, they called in plenty of time. It is a rental property and we do not live in the neighborhood so we really appreciated that.

I called and Mike answered the phone. I asked if he pulled copper line. He said yes. He came out that afternoon and gave me a written estimate. After I got the estimate, I called and asked questions. He was very friendly and patient with me. I asked if he was unable to pull the line, would the charges change. He said no. That was the price, however much work needed to replace the line. The ground was so dry and the plastic pipe was so brittle, he couldn't cut the line and pull the copper through it. He dug one hole to try to pull it again and couldn't. He had to return the next day to complete the job. He has his own equipment, he knows what he is doing, he was honest, friendly, and very professional. I had to leave my house open for him and his assistant and go to work, this was not a problem. I offered water and ice, he said no, they didn't need anything. I told them not to hesitate to use the rest room, and he said, yes if needed, they would use that. My husband was pleasantly surprised when he returned home and found how the yard was left, as well as the work in the basement of our house. Mike payed attention to all details. Additionally, we have a gravel area next to the digging hole and they were kind enough to keep it in tact, as well as saving a post for our fence. They knocked the concrete off the post so we could use it again to put the fence back up.

The water company said that the meter was running constantly and that I had used 60,000 gallons of water the past month (a bill in excess of $300). I called another Angie's List company - JACK L WOODS PLUMBING (used before with excellent results) and they referred me to KAPP EXCAVATING. I called Mike Kapp at 11 and he was at my house at 6PM (due to my schedule, not his). He looked at the problem, was very familiar with it, and at 8:30 the next morning he was at my house ready to work and the job was completed by 3PM. Better yet, the work was done well --- no mess in my house and very little evidence that there had been any excavation in my yard (will probably be fine after a little watering or rain, please). He told me that he has been doing this for 20+ years --- shoddy workmanship and materials used in new houses that were built keeps him in business! He offered me a lesser priced option of $800 but all that involved was fixing the leak where the pipe had cracked entering the house --- no guarantee at that point it wouldn't crack somewhere else so my thought was to fix it right and be done with it. Luckily he was able to run the new pipe through the tunnel left by the old pipe so there was only a little digging at the house and then about a 10-foot square at the meter in the middle of my yard. Mike is a very nice and friendly guy and he does quick work (sensitive to the fact that expensive water company water was pouring out of the broken line) and he does great work. You won't go wrong!
Description of Work: Replaced the plastic water line from the meter to the house (approximately 60 feet) with 3/4" K-copper pipe. His address shows as: P.O. Box 141413 Columbus, Ohio 43214 but he say she keeps his equipment in Westerville.

Mike provided us with a timely estimate and a fair price for the work. He was able to schedule us within 2 days and showed up on time to complete the work. Mike and his assistant began working on the problem area in our yard and located the problem within 30 minutes. As it turned out, our water line was not broken. We were not aware that there had been a fountain in our yard in the past and the supply line for the fountain was capped off improperly and was the source of the wetness in our yard. Mike traced the problem through our yard and we found the supply line shutoff inside of our home. We turned off the supply line and Mike repaired the problem in the yard within 30 minutes. Our original estimate for the work was $750. Mike was kind enough to revise the quote for the repair to $350. Our other estimates for the work ranged from $1200 - $3000 for the original repair. I cannot say enough about how well they handled the problem. They were very professional, punctual and fair. I will use them in the future without hesitation.

Describing the work and overall experience as PERFECT is understatement. I called Mike Kapp on a Friday; he came out with quote on the next day; and, he completed work on following Tuesday. My primary concern before the work was done was how much damage it would do to the landscape. Mike told me before hand that the work would not be too intrusive and he provided me with specific details of what to expect. The actual work was less damaging to the landscape than even Mike anticipated. Literally, when Mike was done you would not know I had replaced the water line, unless you had seen the backhoe on the front lawn and the excavated dirt mounds. Mike also took specific care not to damage my neighbor's property. I was also concerned about getting the city sign off on the work on short notice might be an issue. Nope. I suspect Mike has done a lot of work in Columbus and they trust him by reputation. Mike also gave very practical advice on what to expect in terms of increased water pressure and flow. He was dead on. I am still amazed that the whole process was so easy and met all of my expectations.

I called Kapp Excavating twice and left messages once on a answering machine and once with a member of his family. I described in detail the work I needed done, and never received any calls back. Lack of responsiveness shows a failure of common courtesy and a disregard for potential customer's time - especially having researched the company on Angie's List and the BBB and taking time from work to make repeated calls. It makes you wonder if such contractors actually want customers to undertake work.

Perfect. My waterline, located approximately 100 feet from the house, broke. Mike Kapp said he could simply repair the leak or pull a new copper waterline. I opted for the latter to provide a permanent resolution to the problem. Mike showed up the following day as scheduled and completed the work as promised. Mike is an expert on the backhoe and did an exemplary job of trying not to damage my property more than necessary. His partner, who works on the inside, also did a great job and I guess you could say they are quite the "team" for this kind of work. No one likes to have to shell out money for this kind of repair but, if the need arises, I would would highly recommend Kapp.

I was very pleased with Mike Kapp's work. The city had a great deal of difficulty finding and then turning off my hook up. It took them five days, four crews, a crack in the line and excavating equipment before their part was finished. Mr. Kapp kept me as a top priority, so that the day after the city finished the job, he was here to replace the line.
Description of Work: They replaced the main water supply line to my house. This work required excavating to the city water line from my house, taking out the old, putting in the new and replacing the earth.

Mike and his plumber did an excellent job from start to finish. The estimate was right on the dollar. The work was done in April and though it was cold and snowing, they still got the job done in a half a day. Mike was extremely respectful of my yard and tried to minimize disruption of the lawn. He put a tarp down over the grass to sit the turf and dirt on that he removed. Once the new water line was in place and hooked up, he carefully returned the soil to the hole with a backhoe. He packed it down as he went and then put the turf back over so it barely looked as if it was disturbed. No pile of dirt to settle down like you usually see when a yard is excavated. Also, he inspected the entire job site before he started to note any unusual problems. I wouldn't hesitate to hire him again if I should need excavating work in the future. He was very easy to work with and prompt in getting the job finished. I would highly recommend him to anyone.

Three contractors gave their bids and claimed to be able to begin work ASAP. Mr. Kapp gave his bid but reported that he wasn't sure that the leak was on our line and said we should contact the Water Company to request a pressure check before we began work (a service I did not know was an option before Mr. Kapp's advice). The Water Company was very willing to perform the test even though one of their representatives claimed "if they said you had a leak, you must have a leak" and reiterated our reponsibility for repairs. The pressure test showed no problem on our line and Mr. Kapp's advice saved me several thousand dollars. In addition, he refused payment for his advice. I can't applaud him enough for his honesty and professionalism in handling our problem. Kudos, Mr. Kapp.
Description of Work: Water Company claimed we had a leak in our service line (our responsibility) and we had six (6) days to repair the leak or our service would be cut off. The Water Company extended the time frame to two weeks at our request and we sought bids from six (6) contractors on Angie's List. Two did not do outside work and we ended up with four bids all of which were given within 24 hours by the various contractors.

All the Kapp employees who worked on the project receive gold stars for superb customer service. The price was less than two other quotes we were given, and the work was scheduled faster than the others could get to us. We would highly recommend Kapp Excavating. Although we hope we don't have water problems again, we would call them right away if anything happens.
Description of Work: The main water pipe was leaking down the wall where it entered our basement. The Kapp team efficiently and effectively replaced the plastic pipe with a copper one. We had to wait several days to have all the water, cable, electric, and gas lines marked before their work could begin. In order to replace the pipe it was necessary to dig a hole in our front yard, but Kapp did a great job in lifting sod and keeping the dirt contained on a mat so that when they were finished, everything was back in shape.

Mike Kapp came to my home within hours of my call, gave me his estimate and an approximate day for the repairs. He and his assistant, Bob, were efficient and courteous and I couldn't recommend them more highly. My cost was higher than the norm, he explained, because my home has no basement, only crawl space, which makes any job more labor intensive.

Mike Kapp was respectful, professional, and excellent in all areas. Other plumbing companies even recommended his services when they came to give competing quotes based on his workmanship and price. Kapp was quick, thorough, and had cleaned everything up amazingly before leaving. By using a tractor to pull the line through the ground, he did not have to damage the lawn or sidewalk at all. We could not be more pleased.

I WAS IMPRESSED WITH MIKE KAPPS PROFESSIONALISM AND HONESTY ABOUT THE JOB AND WHAT WAS INVOLVED. I ALSO ASKED HIM ABOUT A DOWNSPOUT REPAIR AND HE INDICATED THAT HE WOULD REPAIR THAT TOO WHILE HE WAS OUT. UNFORTUNATELY, I RECEIVED TWO BIDS LOWER THAN HIS SO I ENDED UP USING SOMEONE ELSE TO PERFORM THE WORK. I WOULD HOWEVER, RECOMMEND KAPP EXCAVATING.
Description of Work: I REQUESTED A BID FOR A NEW WATER LINE FROM THE CURB TO THE METER. MIKE CAME OUT AND EXPLAINED THE WORK AND GAVE ME AN ESTIMATE WHICH HE LATER EMAILED IN WRITING. HE WAS INFORMATIVE AND PROFESSIONAL AND DOES ALL OF THE WORK HIMSELF. UNFORTUNATELY, HE WAS THE THIRD LOWEST BID OUT OF THE FIVE THAT I RECEIVED. I DID CALL HIM TO ADVISE THAT HE WAS THIRD LOWEST SO THAT IF HE WANTED TO LOWER HIS ESTIMATE HE COULD BUT HE DIDN'T RETURN MY MESSAGE. I ASSUMED HE WASN'T INTERESTED IN THE WORK AND I USED THE LOWEST BIDDER. HOWEVER, I WOULD CONTACT MR. KAPP AGAIN FOR AN ESTIMATE AND/OR WORK.
