This all went as well as it could. Fortunately, the leak was a trickle, coming thru pinholes in the block. With scheduling and weather to deal with, it could not have happened quickly (from visit and diagnosis to scheduling in and work done). But Mike scheduled us in promptly, arrived when he said he would, called to confirm, did what he said he would do and for the amount he said it would be. He is friendly and open to questions--a quality I especially appreciate. He was attentive to tracking dirt into the house. I would not hesitate to call him in for something similar--but hope I don't have to!
Description of Work: He came highly recommended by Woods Plumbing and AG. He was prompt and took care of the water leak, a leak in the main water line.

Michael Kapp came to the house to confirm the broken pipe and provided an estimate on the same day. We selected Mike over two other contractors because of his positive reviews on Angie's List and the approach he explained to replacing the pipe. (The other contractors proposed a more disruptive approach)> Mike called the utility marker service and got them to come out the next day. Mike was delayed one day due to threat of heavy rain. He and his team arrived the next day and completed the work within 5 hours. No mud was tracked onto the driveway let alone in the house. There was minimal amount of turf that had to be dug up.

Mike Kapp was incredibly friendly and very efficient. He gave me an quote and also let me know if there was any issue it would not get increased. The estimate is a set quote. Mike and his crew member worked efficiently and cleaned up any mess at the end of the day. The benefit of what KAPP Excavating did was tremendous. In one day, I went from not having enough water pressure to water my lawn and do dishes at the same time, to having enough pressure that when I turned on my sprinkler the water went up to my roof line. I was very happy with the service KAPP Excavating performed.
Description of Work: I hired KAPP Excavating to replace my water line from the house to the street in hopes of improving my dismal water pressure. Mike and his crew member showed up promptly at 8 in the morning and finished the entire job by 4pm. They dug a hole in my front yard, delicately picking up my ground cover so it could be put back in place at the end of the day. The job entailed taking out the old corroded water line pipe (and it was definitely corroded, you could barely see light where the pipe hooked up to the main water line and also to where the pipe hooked up to my line in the basement). It was quick and very efficient.

Mike Kapp was very knowledgeable and took his time in talking with us when he came to the house to give an estimate. We did call for 3 different contractors to come out to give us estimates as the technician from the water company who diagnosed our problem ( a leak in the line from the curb box to our water meter) suggested calling 3 contractors as prices and services vary. One was well priced but kept changing the price as he went along which made me nervous and he only recommeded a fix at the break location. (this would have been a mistake as our line was very weak and damaged) One was very impersonal and would not even be the one doing the work and was way overpriced. I felt as at ease as I could as Mike and his co worker were working on the line. They replaced the line by pulling the new line through underground from the water meter to the water service line at the road. They finished the job in one day with no issues and had it inspected and the ground back in place by the end of the day. It also really impressed me the care they took when working. They laid down a tarp so it did not hurt the lawn so much and they were able to place the dirt back as well as the sod. All I had to do was water the sod they put back in place when they were done. We were very impressed with their professionalism and work ethic that you just honestly don't find anymore. Would recommend them very highly without reserve. All of our neighbors of course were asking what was going on as our line was being fixed and I know many of them came and asked Mike for his card. The neighbors were all amazed by the end result and care they took with our yard (basically no one could tell work was done) unless they had driven by earlier and seen the backhoe etc. Great job!

He did a fantastic job. He was prompt and professional. He responded phone calls. He was here when he was supposed to be here. He literally put the landscaping back that he had to remove to get to the water line. He put it back in pristine condition. You couldn’t even tell that he was even there. The problem that we had was our basement then flooded. He came out to check his work and he said that everything was fine. We had a couple of other companies come out to see. Nobody could figure out where the water was coming in. Then we were able to determine that the water was coming in right where he put the hydraulic cement in the basement where he replaced the piping. We contacted him and he said that he had a couple of complaints. He thought that the hydraulic cement was faulty. He came out immediately when we realized that it was the problem with hydraulic cement. Every time he came out it was free of charge. He completely replaced it on a Saturday morning. We had no problem with it since then. I absolutely have no problem recommending him. His price was definitely higher than the other quotes that we had, but you get what you pay for. I can’t compare his work to other people. I just know that he was excellent. The problem that we had was that since it was a city water line, we were responsible to fix it and pay for the repair. We were given a very short list by the city of contractors that we had to choose to perform the work. We had to pick someone on that list. Luckily he was on that list.

I called Mike and he gave me an estimate the same day. He obtained the necessary permit and had the utility lines marked before he began. He had to dig up several bushes in the front yard and hauled them away. Although he was slightly delayed by a thunderstorm, he completed the entire job, inside and out, within 4 hours. He had the city inspector come to check the work before he filled in the hole in the front yard. Two other companies told me that the work would involve replacing a block of sidewalk in front of my house, but Mike was able to work around the sidewalk without removing any part of it. Mike's bid was much lower than that given by the two companies that mentioned sidewalk replacement. One other company gave me an estimate that was quite a bit lower, but the representative did not seem to know what he was talking about. After the job was finished, one of my neighbors mentioned how nice Mike and his coworker had been to her two little boys who were fascinated by the workings of the big construction equipment. Mike gave me a written estimate before the work started and a signed receipt upon completion. Mike was very knowledgeable and extremely easy to work with. Good communication. I highly recommend his company.

Overall it did not go wellas he did not show up to do the estimate.
Description of Work: I had called Kapp based on a referral from someone else and after checking them out on Angie's List. We had an appointment set up for later today. I was very honest with him when scheduling in that I told him I was getting another estimate early in the morning so we set something up for later in the day. Unfortunately he never showed up. I followed up with a phone call leaving both my home and my cell phone number and did not hear from him. It was very disappointing.

Will certainly call Mike if a similar problem comes up. Mike was very honest and was not out to sell services I did not need.
Description of Work: Called Mike about a problem with tree roots main sewer line. While Mike did not end up performing any work, he was extremely quick to call back and give me useful advice. In the end, Mike recommended another company to clean out the drain, which ultimately cost me $250. The original estimate I received from a national plumbing company recommended I spend $10,000 to re-line the drains.

Mike did a great job in exactly the manner he described. Mike believes in quality and doing the job right. Mike only had to dig one relatively small hole in my yard and actually pulled new copper pipe through using a special tool that cut the plastic pipe and replaced it with new copper. Do yourself a favor and have Mike quote your job. Other companies will quote you twice the price and destroy your yard, walkways, etc. He did a great job replacing the dirt even with tough winter conditions. I highly recommend Kapp Excavating for your water line issues. He is professional and a nice person.

Mike was very responsive when I called and came to the house the same day to look at the situation and give me an estimate. After reading past Angie's list reports on his company and meeting him in person I was very comfortable in having him handle the repair. On the day that I scheduled to have the water line replaced we experienced an issue with getting the water shutoff at the street and had to call the city. You can tell Mike does this for a living because he has a good interaction with the water department. Unfortunately, the city was not able to shutoff the water either and we had to wait until the next day to have a specialized city crew arrive to get the water off. Right after it was off Mike and his assistant Bob were out to begin the work. Words do not describe Mike's skill with his backhoe and he was able to expose the line that runs under my sidewalk without disturbing the walk at all. While the job took a full day you can tell that Mike and Bob have done this many times before and worked quickly to get the water back on. Two things I noticed when everything was done. First, for such a muddy job there was not any evidence of their work in my carpeted basement. In fact my wife thought the carpet was cleaner then before they started. And secondly, while it was winter out it was still hard to tell where they had to dig up my yard. In fact I had neighbors stop by to tell me what a great job they did repairing the yard. I would highly recommend them.

Mike Kapp did an absolutely spectacular job. He was professional and punctual and drove his massive tractor like a ballet dancer, being delicate around our gardens and completely respecting of all our plants and newly planted tulip bulbs. There were so many things in this process I did not even think to ask, such as: Do you use copper pipe (plastic is oft used), will you dig up my porch, do you have rubber tires so as not to scratch my concrete, will you fill the hole in my basement left by the pipe removed? Yes, yes, yes and yes, he did all these things in such a professional way that I tried to offer him additional plumbing in our home, though he has his specialities. Mike Kapp excavating is worth every penny and more as our water, which was a trickle, is now restored to it's full glory. My wife and I are singing in the shower (rain) again.....He will get instant recommendation from any neighbor in need. Thanks Mike

It all went well. Mike Kapp and his assistant Bob were knowledgeable, friendly, and punctual. Mike said he specialized in water line breaks and therefore had all the equipment for the job. They arrived at the designated time of 9AM and completed the job by 3PM. They turned my water off during these times. Mike made all of the arrangements with the city of Gahanna to inspect and approve their work that day. They made a concerted effort to not track-in dirt/mud into the house. They used a tarp to put the dirt on that they excavated. This reduced loose dirt from scattering and messing-up the yard. They cleaned their work area in my basement and in my yard when they finished. They put back the grass sod they dug-up and left my front yard almost in the same condition as when they started.
Description of Work: My main water line (plastic) had a break in my front yard. I wanted to have the 40 feet water line completely replaced. I got 3 estimates. Roto-Rooter estimated $5,500. There were going to remove my old water line by excavating a trench up to 5ft deep from the city water line hook-up to the side of my house. They also wanted to move 2 sections of sidewalk to access the city water line. They would then install a new copper line. The estimate I got from The Waterworks was for $2,187. They would excavate only by the sidewalk to access the city water line and would not have to move the sidewalk. They therefore would not have to excavate the length of the old water line and tear-up my yard. They would install a water line made of HDPE plastic, which they said was as strong as copper but cheaper. The new plastic line was to be installed by attaching it to the end of the old water line exiting my house. The old and new line would then be pulled out at the sidewalk excavation. I decided to go with Kapp Excavating with an estimate of $2,100. They would use a similar installation method as The Waterworks but would use a copper line, which I felt was sturdier. Note that estimates I got from the contacted companies to excavate and fix the leak "only at the line break" ranged from around $750 to $1,600. I decided it was better to replace the whole thing for peace of mind rather than do patch-up and possibly have another leak later.

Everything went very well. Mike has done this a lot and handled all the details with the city, including getting the inspection taken care of before the hole was filled in. He explained the process in detail to me, which I appreciated. He was also easy to reach by phone. I would definitely recommend getting an estimate from him if you have a similar situation.
Description of Work: We had a leak in the water line under our front lawn, down by the sidewalk. The city gave us 6 days to have it repaired. I called Mike and he came out right away to look at it and give me an estimate. He was able to get out there to do the repair the day after I approved the estimate and replaced the entire plastic line with copper, from the street into the house.
