Took down and removed the trees. Took payment and said that he had to go get the stump grinder from another job and never returned. Was not able to get in touch with company by phone and when I did they hung up repetitively. They did not return to complete the service after I paid them for the said service.

They did an excellent job. We had a large patch of newly planted grass under where the limbs would fall. They made sure it did not fall there and were very careful to insure nothing touched the neighbor's garage. They cleaned up all branches and left the yard in great shape. We have used John's Tree Service for years. We were one of their first customers when they started the business and would not call anyone else. The owners and their crews are very courteous and thorough. You could call another company and pay more but you will not get better service.
Description of Work: Removed large tree limbs that were broken by storm winds but were still attached high in the tree and were ready to fall on neighbor's garage.

Their price is mostly what stood out to me about them. They were friendly and helpful. They let us know what was going on and what they were going to be doing. They gave me the best price and they did pretty good work. I feel like I got my money's worth.

John, who lives around the corner from me, stopped by the house and offered his services. He gave me an estimate. (Several others also stopped by and gave me estimates.) One Monday evening he came by and we made the contract. He said he would drop off proof of insurance the next morning. He did not (and never did). He said he would begin work at noon on Tuesday. He still had not come on Thursday so I called and said he could not start work until after the following week. He came and started the work the week I told them they could not be here, so I sent them away. He came again the following week and did a good job of taking the trees down and removing the material. His equipment was not adequate to grind the tree stumps so he subcontracted the work. They did the work while he was present. They left the piles of wood chips as we contracted. After I got rid of the chips I saw that they had barely gotten below grade level and I spent days with an axe removing more of the stumps. I also spent days removing the rest of the Maple tree roots along the top of the ground which they had not removed (which he had contracted to do). There were also some large sections of the tree stump above ground which went out into the roots. I felt I could not remove them myself. I called John in early September to come and complete the job as contracted. He promised to come. This happened six or seven times over the next five months. Finally, in March, I hired another company to come and remove the remainder of the stump. They did an excellent job and I have grass planted.
Description of Work: They cut down eight large trees and removed them. They also ground out the stumps.

I responded to their advertisement on Craig's List, 10/16/09, 9:04 AM EDT: firewood - $130 (cols. & surrounding) "seasoned firewood, ready to burn split hardwood, call for delivery we are taking orders today! free delivery within cols. area. free stacking if area is right next to where we can pull to it call at 614-262-5149 thks" I called them. Lois said they would deliver it between 12 noon and 1:00 PM Sunday, October 18, 2009. I live not more than 10 miles from their location, in the Columbus area as per their advertisement. Lois said there would be an additional $10 dollars for delivery. It seemed reasonable. Sunday, October 18, 2009, they did not show up between noon and 1PM. They were called and said they were behind, employees didn't show up ... Lois said they would deliver the wood between 2 and 3 PM . 3 PM, they are still a no-show. They were called 2-3 times between 3:30 and 5 PM. Approximately 6 PM Lois called and said they were really backed-up and wanted to know if I wanted the wood today, if not they could deliver on Tuesday. She was told yes, I needed the wood today. She said they would be there within the hour. Sunday, October 18, 2009 at 7:30 PM, it was now dark, they arrived. They began unloading the wood and stacking it on my patio. I helped them. I noticed the wood was heavy, I thought it was kind of strange that "SEASONED" wood to be heavy, then thought to myself, it's just me. Too I noticed the wood smelled fresh. With my porch light on it all looked okay. Then after unloading the cord of wood it looked less than a cord but close. They were paid $140.00 and they left. Monday morning, October 19, 2009, at 5:30 AM I tried to build a fire. The wood would not burn. I used all my kindling to get the wood to try burning and it steamed out the water, water came out the ends of the "SEASONED" wood. Once it was day light I inspected the wood closer. It was "green" wood, fresh saw marks, bark on tightly and no oxidation. I call Lois at about 9:00 AM and she said they must have gotten the "seasoned" mixed with not-so-seasoned wood, but they liked the unseasoned because it burned longer in their stove. I told her this did not burn. She said they would bring out some seasoned later sometime this week. I said okay. The more I thought about this the more it made me mad. I later called and told her I wanted a cord of "SEASONED" firewood. She said that's what they were planning on bring out. I again asked when, she said sometime this week and that's it. I began to think that these people had taken my money and ran. Tuesday, October 20, 2009, went by and I heard nothing. Thinking my money was gone I thought I would build my case if I had to go to court. I decided to confirm my thoughts about what "SEASONED" firewood actually is, Googled it and confirmed what I knew. Then I contacted Craig's List, contacted The Federal Trade Commission, they suggested "googling" the telephone number in the Craig's List posting. I did and found the address of John's Tree Service and Angie's List. Then I contacted the Franklin County Sheriff's Office and the Columbus Police and filed complaints with all of them. A Columbus Policeman said he would try calling Johns' Tree Service to see what the problem was. In the evening, about 7:20 PM I received a telephone call from Lois telling me they would be out tomorrow at either 10 AM or 4 PM to replace the wood. Wednesday, October 21, 2009, about 10 AM again, they were a no-show. I called John's Tree service. I got the answering machine, as I began leaving a message Lois picked-up the telephone and began ranting about me calling the police on her. She said they were going to refund my money and that they didn't want to do business with people like me. I asked when they would be out and she said she told me when. She was simply argumentive and tried to make me out to be the "bad guy" in all of this. After talking with her I began calling the local media, they said this sounds like a good story so people won't get taken by crooks. 4:00 PM arrived and again, they were a no-show. I decided to file a formal complain with the Columbus Police Department. 6:30 PM, I hear a vehicle beside my building, they have arrived. John Littler, aka John's Tree Service and an associate are picking up the wood. John is trying to intimidate me with his "know-it-all" attitude. He was very ruff and unprofessional. After all the wood was loaded he said I was ripped-off. I asked how so? He said there wasn't a cord of wood here. I said well it's what you brought. He insisted it was not a cord because he knew what a cord looked like in the back of his truck. I disagree with him. I was almost ripped-off by him. As a comprehensive consumer, I do my due diligence. After a lot of running around I finally got my money back. I even have this episode recorded, videotaped, it is proof of what I have reported here.
Description of Work: John's Tree Service was supposed to deliver and stack "SEASONED" firewood, a cord.

Initially it went excellent, I called them, and immediately called back, and were out to give me an estimate. I then proceeded to contact a few other services to gather additional estimates before deciding. I decided to go with John's Tree service and set up the time for them to come out. There was a brief delay and had to be rescheduled a few days later. This was the only issue, the brief delay, that they apologized for. The day of the project they came in on time and had the tree down and the clean up done in no time and it went great.
Description of Work: I recently had them remove a tree from my backyard area.

Initially I was very pleased with the job. Crew arrived when scheduled, started almost immediately and worked throughout the day until early evening. At the end of the day, the owner/lead stated that the only work remaining was the grinding of the stump. He stated he was tired and asked if it would be okay for him to complete the job the following morning (Sat.) as well as remove the remaining equipment left in our yard- and I stated yes. The crew never arrived Sat, Sun or Monday. I called on Monday and was informed that they would be out Tues. morning to complete job and remove equipment....didn't happen. Wednesday someone came and removed the large truck and trailer from yard, stump was not ground. I have called each day since trying to get a response to no avail. I am very disappointed with how they've handled this situation and would not recommend their services.

I'm not displeased with work they did, I'm displeased with the fact they didn't do all the work we hired them to do and now I have to make other arrangements.
Description of Work: My husband called and told them he wanted the tree in the front trimmed and the stump in the side removed. The lady on the phone quoted him $425.00. They came out 2 days later. They drove around a few times and appeared to be lost. They had the wrong address. They called, but they still arrived in the time frame they told us. They trimmed the tree in the front in about an hour, but they didn't remove the stump. When I asked them about it, they said it wasn't on the list. I wasn't going to pay them, but I paid them for the tree removal, not the stump removal, since they didn't remove the stump, but they promised they would. We even made arrangements, but they haven't returned to do the work and haven't returned my calls. I told them at the time if you can't do it, tell me now so I can make other arrangements.

THEY DID NOT DO THE WORK WE PAID THEM FOR. THERE WAS NO COMMUNICATION BETWEEN THE OWNER AND STAFF MEMBERS. ONE OF THEIR STAFF MEMBERS ARGUED WITH ME AND CALLED ME A LIAR. THEY ARE DISHONEST AND DO NOT STAND BY THEIR WORD.
Description of Work: THEY WERE PAID TO CUT DOWN ONE TREE, GRIND OUT A STUMP, AND REMOVE ALL LOGS (CLEAN UP). THEY ENDED UP CUTTING DOWN THE TREE, NOT GRINDING THE STUMP AND NO LOG REMOVAL. THEY ALSO SAID IT WOULD BE A FIVE HOUR JOB, BUT THE ACTUAL CUTTING DOWN OF THE TREE TOOK OVER A WEEK AFTER REPEATED PHONE CALLS BY US AND THE REMAINING WORK HAS NOT YET BEEN COMPLETED.

Response from JOHN'S TREE SERVICE
This issue is already resolved. We did complete our part of the work. Everything is finished. This member has made false accusations. I have saved messages of her threats to our company and will move forward if need be. I called Angie's List and made them aware of this. We are a well recognized business within the community.
