Description of Work: The date of engagement was actually 2009-2011. We paid 10% fee (3000.00) for 40 hrs.of his time, similar to what you would have to do for a lawyer. The house design and color coordination ended up looking very good. Very pleased about that. We had fired our contractor and the Dan went outside his relm by helping us by finding people to install. Most of them, we were pleased with. My husband gave him all of the money he needed to purchase the goods and install. Things seemed to be going as planned at first but tapered off to nothing after awhile. It was like pulling teeth to get the rest of the products delivered and installed. Excuses were given after waiting and then I asked Dan to tell us where he planned to order from before placing any orders. I wanted to know this so that I could check them out and also to make sure that they had been paid afterward. We had found out that our railing manufacturer in OR had not been paid in full and were then concerned about leins. Dan was very reluctant to do this for us and seemed to want us to keep giving him the money..the "lure" was-his discount!! Here is one of our many issues...Dan showed us pictures of toilets to pick from, but no thought was given to checking the reviews of the manufacturer or installation instructions. It can't just look good...it has to work well too!! This was a huge oversite!! The toilet we chose came from overseas. It had several issues that couldn't be resolved and was a plumbing nightmare. We ended up purchasing another one on our own..TOTO from AMERICA(purchased from Eastway) as a replacement. It is fabulous! He did not charge us for the replacement, however we will probably have to pay to have the other one to be removed from our garage. The bottom line is this...Don't do more than one thing at a time with Dan and only pay 10%-15% until after delivery, then pay for the product in full and don't complete the payment for the labor until it is finished. Choose your people for install from Angies list or go with the company that you bought the product from. Check out the company that Dan plans to order from before he orders. Some of them are NOT reputable and their return policies are bad. Do...for product... stick with companies that are local as much as you can. Look at the BBB, online reviews and customer service policy. In summary, Dan is a very sweet man and overall we enjoyed working with him. He has good design ideas works hard to find products that fit your taste and overall project goal. We believe he has poor money management skills and needs to do product/manufacturer research before presenting them to the customer. UPDATE: Be sure to keep a record of time spent with Dan and have him initial it. He just presented us with an additional 4000.00 bill for HIS time!!! .

Description of Work: Dan helped us prepare our home to sell it. He served as a consultant and advised us how to make it look its best and kept our budget and time frame in mind with the suggestions he made. With his help, the home was in contract in just over two weeks' time. We are continuing to work with him as we settle into our new home.
