We asked the company to come out to our house to get an accurate estimate prior to the move. They quoted us an estimate of $625. On the day of the move, they arrived 45 minutes earlier than the agreed upon time, and they charged us 1 hour of "travel time" to drive 13 miles from their base to our home. They took frequent breaks to smoke cigarettes. They took more than 90 minutes to drive to our new home. The weather was bad and roads difficult to travel, but this seemed excessive (we drove it in 45 minutes). They told their supervisors that they shoveled our driveway, and they did not. We cleaned the driveway. In the end, they charged us $960 which was significantly more than their original estimate. Upon complaining to the company, they did refund $125 (final amount $835 as above), but we still feel that their quoted travel times were excessive and their "professional" estimate was incredibly inaccurate. COMMENTS ON PROVIDERS RESPONSE: The statements made by Mr. Herring (who I never met nor spoke to) are generally false and a poor attempt to 'cover up' extraordinarily bad service with gross overestimations of travel time and conditions by his employees and poor 'estimation' by the "Top 7%". The response should be a warning to you... do NOT use this business.
Description of Work: Moved furniture and boxes of a 3 bedroom house across town (distance 25 miles). We completed the packing and disassembly/assembly of larger items (i.e. beds).

IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT THE DAY THIS PARTICULAR MOVE TOOK PLACE (MARCH 7, 2008) WAS RECORDED AS THE LARGEST SINGLE-DAY SNOWFALL ON RECORD IN THE CITY OF COLUMBUS, AT 20.5 INCHES. WHILE THE CUSTOMER MAY HAVE REMOVED SNOW EARLY IN THE DAY, IT WOULD NEED TO BE CONTINUALLY REMOVED THROUGHOUT THE DAY. AS THIS PARTICULAR MOVE WAS COD, IT IS PERFECTLY ACCEPTABLE FOR THE CUSTOMER TO CANCEL AND RESCHEDULE, IF THEY SO CHOOSE, TO A BETTER TIME. HOWEVER, IN OUR DESIRE TO MEET THE NEEDS OF THE CUSTOMER WE SENT OUR CREW OUT EARLIER (THE AGREED ARRIVAL TIME WAS 8:00 AM) IN ORDER TO COMPENSATE FOR ANY DELAYS DUE TO THE WEATHER. WHILE THIS CUSTOMER STATES IT HAD NOT BEGUN SNOWING AS OF THIS TIME, THEY ARE NORTH AND WEST OF OUR LOCATION. THE SNOW CAME FROM THE SOUTH-WEST. THEIR LOCATION RECEIVED THE INITIAL SNOW SOMEWHAT LATER. WHILE THE CUSTOMER MAY HAVE MADE THE TRIP TO THEIR NEW LOCATION IN THEIR CAR IN 45 MINUTES, OUR CREW WAS TRAVELING IN A 9 TON STRAIGHT TRUCK, LOADED WITH APPROXIMATELY 2 TONS OF THEIR HOUSEHOLD GOODS. THE TRIP, IN THESE CONDITIONS, LASTED 90 MINUTES, AND OUR CREW ARRIVED SAFELY WITH ALL OF THE HOUSEHOLD GOODS. IT SHOULD BE NOTED HERE THERE WAS NEVER A CLAIM FILED FOR ANY DAMAGE, WEATHER RELATED OR OTHERWISE, TO EITHER THEIR HOME OR THEIR PROPERTY. ESSENTIALLY, THIS CUSTOMER SEEMS TO BE UNHAPPY THAT THEIR MOVE, WHICH WAS ESTIMATED TO TAKE 5 HOURS UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS, ACTUALLY TOOK 7 ½ HOURS (OF WHICH THEY WERE ONLY CHARGED 6 ½ HOURS). THIS WAS, AGAIN, IN THE MIDST OF THE WORST ONE DAY SNOW STORM ON RECORD. WHILE THE WAY WE HANDLE OUR CUSTOMERS BELONGINGS AND TREAT THEIR RESIDENCE IS FIRMLY IN OUR CONTROL (AS EVIDENCED BY NO DAMAGE BEING DONE), THE WEATHER IS NOT. SINCE THIS WAS AN UNFORTUNATE SITUATION WE RESPONDED PROMPTLY AND FAIRLY TO ADJUST OUR BILLING, AS A GOODWILL GESTURE, EVEN THOUGH THE ADDITIONAL CHARGES WERE WEATHER RELATED AND OUT OF OUR CONTROL. The worst moving experience I ever had. First, they assured me they were sending one of their top drivers for our large move. When he called, it made me more apprehensive because he was very arrogant sounding and condescending. I called to ask for a different driver and they reassured me he was one of their best. (It turns out he hadn't been with them all that long, and he has quit that company since then.) (Mike R) He was so arrogant and nasty to his packers, they quit on him and didn't show up the second day! It turns out, too, he didn't have a regular "crew" that worked with him. They were the worst packers we ever had, also! I had MANY items (irreplaceable) broken; not wrapped well or placed in the box properly! The experience was a nightmare. He did no walk through at the end or checklist. When I went back to the house the next day, there was a small trailer load left in the house! Luckily, this move was in state! I was able to get a trailer and move it myself!!
Description of Work: Moved in state; a very large move; have moved seven to eight times coast to coast. Never had a problem; never used Atlas before.

A FEW THINGS WERE BROKEN SOME TIME DURING THE MOVE. WHEN THEY WERE READY TO LEAVE THEY REALLY PUSHED ME TO SIGN ALL THE FORMS WITHOUT GIVING ME TIME TO REVIEW EVERYTHING. AFTER THEY LEFT, AND WE WERE UNPACKING WE LEARNED OUR WOOD FLOORING IN THE DINING ROOM WAS DAMAGED. THEY HAD PILED ALL THE BOXES FOR OUR KITCHEN IN THE DINING ROOM SO WE DID NOT SEE THE DAMAGE UNTIL LATER. ATLAS WAS OUR ORIGINAL CARRIER, AND WHEN I CALLED THE NEXT DAY TO REPORT THE DAMAGE THEY TOLD ME TO ADD IT TO OUR CLAIM. WE SUBMITTED OUR CLAIM WITHIN THE TIME ALLOWED BY ATLAS. HOME MOVING AND STORAGE REFUSED TO REPAIR THE DAMAGE, BECAUSE WE DID NOT CALL THEM THE NEXT DAY TO REPORT IT. I WAS FOLLOWING WHAT I WAS TOLD BY ATLAS, AND DIDN'T EVEN KNOW WHO TO CONTACT FOR LOCAL SERVICE. THE WOMAN FROM HOME MOVING AND STORAGE EVEN WENT AS FAR TO ALLUDE I WAS LYING ABOUT WHEN THE DAMAGE OCCURRED. SHE BASICALLY TOLD ME NOT TO BOTHER TO SUBMIT A CLAIM TO HER BECAUSE THEY WOULD DENY IT. I WILL NEVER USE THEM AGAIN!
Description of Work: WE RELOCATED FROM ANOTHER STATE, AND HAD TO PUT OUR BELONGINGS IN STORAGE FOR ABOUT 3 WEEKS. HOME MOVING AND STORAGE PICKED UP OUR BELONGINGS AT THE STORAGE FACILITY, AND DELIVERED THEM TO OUR HOUSE. THE WORK CREW MOVED OUT STUFF IN QUICKLY.

RANDY (DRIVER/MOVER) PROVIDED EXCELLENT SERVICE FOR THIS CROSS-COUNTRY MOVE. THEY WERE FAST, PUNCTUAL, AND CAREFUL WITH OUR BELONGINGS. THEY TOOK EXTRA TIME WITH THE FRAGILE ITEMS. WE DID NOT HAVE ONE THING BROKEN!! THE RE-LOCATION STAFF KEPT ME INFORMED AT EVERY STEP AND HAD GREAT FOLLOW-UP CUSTOMER SERVICE TO MAKE SURE WE WERE HAPPY WITH THE MOVE AFTER THE FACT.
