Salesman was very helpful. As any self-respecting salesman does, there's always the gentle preference toward the higher priced choice of systems. Nevertheless, while the preference was there, I was never pressured in that direction and felt very comfortable with the process. Kudos to the salesman for also not trying to use ignorance as a sales tool. Of all the estimates we received, he did the best job of educating us regarding the system technicalities, pros and cons of the various suggested options, and making sure we were comfortable with what we ultimately chose. The fact that he was very willing to thoroughly cover information (and explain it in detail) that ultimately sold us into a smaller system is what caused us to choose their company. Though they weren't excessively far off, they definitely did not submit the cheapest bid. Nevertheless, they won the integrity factor hands down. At the end of the day, we chose to upgrade one item and leave the rest toward the lower end of the spectrum as we felt this actually met our needs best. The installation team had three or four people working simultaneously. Our utility room is compact (understatement!). Notwithstanding the challenges that came with the limited available space, they utilized the area very efficiently and we ended up with significantly more usable space than we began with, even though the new equipment was larger than the old. Very happy with their planning and how it ended up. The inspector who came to give the installation the city's blessing commented that one aspect of the system was not what he would have done personally, but it was not a code issue and provided more functionality in the system for me so I have no qualms. We have run their equipment for almost a year now with no issues whatsoever. I am very happy with how well it works, the experience I had with them, and I would be very happy to work with this company again.

We ended up purchasing a new furnace. They were very knowledgeable, they explained everything really well and they had good comprises. They were cheap compared to others.

They were punctual & professional. Replaced the tank & cleaned up after themselves. Installer was friendly & courteous.

I was offered a service contract which includes spring and fall services, and I did purchase the contract.

Every time we use them they do a great job. They went beyond the call of duty and noticed an issue with our system. They actually replaced the parts proactively.

Estimate done when promised for free, lasted 0.75 hours (tied for shortest of 5 estimates). Very professional and friendly process. Uses Trane. Estimate of $5285 included humidifier, wifi thermostat, 10 year labor, $250 cash discount, and one year maintenance, and was the third best of 5 estimates. My only concern was they were the only company to NOT advise a new air intake (an addition costing 0-$290 from other companies), saying that the existing return air drop is 'technically' big enough, and that installing either a wrap around or bottom return would be very expensive and challenging.

The price was really high. The interaction was very pleasant.

I can't imagine a better HVAC/and water heater company than Hetter. We've used Hetter for years for our furnace/AC work, and their work today on replacing a water heater was as excellent as their earlier service. First of all, Hetter has professional, knowledgeable, polite and friendly employees. Technicians Lance and Chuck first tried to see if the old water heater could be saved, searching for all the least-costly repairs that would get it working. A replacement was called for, and they let us make a decision. They worked quietly and efficiently, and answered every question we had. They even provided maintenance advice that will save us money down the road. If I owned a company, I'd want to manage it as John Hetterscheidt manages Hetter, hiring and keeping excellent employees that make customers feel glad they chose Hetter. I give Hetter the highest recommendation possible, and recommend Hetter to all my family and friends.

Hetter provided excellent, professional service! We filed a claim through ABC Gase Line Warranty, which led us to Hetter. Lance was the person who came to our house for the initial inspection, and he was also the person to perform the work. They were polite, very quick to respond, and cleaned up after working in our basement. They provided an honest quote and were very easy to work with.

Hetter installed my new furnace on 3/19/13. I chose Hetter over two other companies based on Angie's List reviews, recommendation of a neighbor, and my favorable impression of Rick, who was the one who came to my house and provided me with options and estimates. Two of the companies (including Hetter) specified an 80,000 BTU furnace, and one specified 114,000 BTU. Given this difference of opinion, I expressed concern to Rick, who reviewed the load calculations and confirmed 80,000 BTU as the correct sizing. The three men who came to install the furnace were friendly and seemed professional, and I was well pleased. The city inspector came and approved the work. Come summer I turned on my air conditioner and discovered that there was water all over the floor below the furnace. The tubing Hetter had installed to carry away the condensate to the basement drain was not properly positioned - it was angled up hill, and so the water instead flowed down and through the furnace and spilled out onto the floor. Hetter came, acknowledged the problem and corrected it. The brutal cold of this January came, and I could not keep the house at the set temperature on the thermostat. I never set it higher than 68 degrees, usually less, and at the worst of the first Polar vortex, the temperature in the living room, where the thermostat is, dropped as low as 57 degrees. I used space heaters for supplemental heating. The furnace ran virtually continuously. At first I blamed the severity of the weather, but I did also have concerns about the adequacy of the furnace. When I finally called Hetter to express concern that the furnace seemed unable to keep the house comfortable, the lady I spoke with asked about what kind of insulation I have in my walls. I told her that surely Rick would have considered all that when he sold me the furnace. She seemed unconvinced that there was any problem with the furnace, but she did finally put me through to someone who gave me an appointment for a service call. The technician came that very day, and he determined that the variable speed blower on the furnace was not functioning properly - the second stage (required for full capacity heating in extreme weather) was not operating at all. It was an installation issue, not a Trane issue. He fixed it and the difference is dramatic. As the outside temperature dips into single digits again this week, I'll see how the furnace performs. I do understand that mistakes can happen. In fact, I was pretty forgiving after the water issue this past summer, but the problem with the variable speed blower could have been avoided, I believe, if the operation of the furnace had been thoroughly checked at the time of installation. If it were not for the prompt response I received from Hetter in correcting the problems, I would have given them a 'C' overall instead of a 'B.'

I've had a maintenance contract with Hetter for almost 14 years for a furnace and AC installed by the company. Their service has been good; technicians courteous and competent. At times of regular check-ups, technicians have always installed furnace filters that I purchase from other sources. In rare cases where other parts were needed, charges have seemed high to me. Most recently, a technician wrote a charge of $125.50 -- in addition to the trip/diagnostic charge -- for a feeder tube to replace a broken one in my AprilAire Humidifier, The tube was to be installed a couple of days later. I called Hetter and cancelled the order for the feeder tube, purchased it from RepairClinic.com for $24.50 plus $9 for next day delivery, and installed it myself. When informed of this issue, a Hetter representative apologized, said the price was misquoted, and should have been <$60 (not $125.50) for the part and labor. Possibly, the error would have been caught had I not called it to the attention of office personnel.

I have used Hetter Heating & Cooling in the past to replace a furnace and air conditioner at my old house. I have a new residence that needed HVAC and hot water tank updating. I did not call any other contractor because I have used Hetter Heating & Cooling before and know that they are the best in Columbus. Rick Hetterscheidt came and gave me a quote on two options. He said I did not need the more expensive option (rebates, two stage more efficient furnace were the differences) because the smaller furnace would work just as well and the more efficient furnace would take much longer to recoup the price differential. I am a Consumer Report and Angie's List type of person who researches large expenditures before purchasing, but with Hetter, I don't even bother. Got quote on Dec. 24th and wanted work done on Dec. 26th, Hetter said no problem. I had things to do that day and left the garage door opener with the technician's and said lock it up when you are done. I picked the garage door opener at Hetter's main office. That is how much you can trust the company.

Not only was their responsiveness terrific, and not only were they willing to work on Christmas Eve to get our family warm again--they did an excellent job as well. The two installers were polite and professional. They showed up on time, were considerate of our home, were friendly to my family and took their time to do the job right. They also took the time to make sure we understood the work, knew how to work the unit and were comfortable with the job. They did not short change the job even though I'm sure they wanted to get home to their families as well. They even replaced a water heater vent pipe joint that was corroded as well--without additional charge--simply because it posed a risk to our family. So very much appreciated. On this particular job, they were about 10% less than another A-rated Train dealer as well. Bonus.

The technician arrived on time and performed the service requested to my satisfaction. It was a rainy day though and he did not put on shoes protectors as past technicians had done. When asked he did put on protectors removing his shoes.(they did not fit his larger shoe size - wish he would have asked me about my preference at the beginning). Then on 1/2/14 a technician arrived unannounced to repeat the service done in September. He did not have any record of my renewal agreement. I called the office and the receptionist let me know that everything was in order but did not have an explanation for what happened. I would use them again because they have always done an excellent job performing the work but they could improve their customer service which has been slipping lately.

After the detector in my 2nd floor bedroom went off at 1:45 A.M. and I awoke to a hot electrical smell, I thought it was something in the attic, grabbed the dog, called 911, moved the car and saw 4 Columbus firefighters go into my house after the first snow of the season, I was waved back into the house. It was something with my furnace - but no smoke or fire, but it smelled. After they left, I tried to restart the furnace and there was no air moving. I assumed it was the blower motor, turned everything off and went to bed. In the morning, I called ABC Gasline Warranty to ask about my gas appliance coverage, and whether I could request Hetter Heating and Cooling, my maintenance company, to service the furnace. Yes, I could and I did. By 8 a.m, I was talking to Hetter and they scheduled Lance for my house that afternoon. Lance is great. He has serviced the furnace and heat pump a number of times. He confirmed the problem - motor - it was about 14 years old - and confirmed it would be a covered repair through ABC. He suggested that I upgrade to the green ECM motor for energy efficiency and noise (my furnace is on the first floor of my house), and I agreed this was a good idea. The upgrade was $261.00. Then he suggested I call an energy assessment company, Tacoma, so that I could have the assessment and get a $100.00 rebate on the fan. Tacoma was available, came right away, and I was also able to add a $50.00 rebate because I had the heat pump/a/c maintained in the spring. And the energy assessment fee of $25.00 will be rebated. Many things went well and in my favor, even after I had stood out in my front yard, staring at my house 14 hours earlier.

Contractor modified ductwork as necessary. Answered all questions on types of air cleaners. A couple of issues were handled by the contractor appropriately.

Overall was an excellent experience. We met with Rick to review needs and he quickly came back with three alternatives. We emailed back / forth multiple times and he was very responsive to our questions and changes. Great follow-up compared to others we asked for estimates. Installers were punctual, professional, and provided instruction where needed. System worked great this summer, kept the house much cooler than previous system, and energy usage was lower. Very pleased with results and would definitely use them again.

They were just great, they came out right on time, they were very professional. Everyone we dealt with were very professional. Their warranties are very good as well. I would recommend them to anyone I know.

I had several companies give me estimates on a new HVAC. Overall, Hetter offered me the best product, gave me the most detail, answered all my questions, and found solutions to problems. I was offered a 36-month payment plan, a big help and incentive. The representative, Rick, was very professional and respectful, took his time explaining and recommending an HVAC that best suited my home. Hetter was the only company that actually calculated a load analysis to determine the size furnace/AC for my home. I felt like I was collaborating in the selection and installation of the HVAC, rather than just being "told" what to do. The day of the installation, I asked that the installers arrive early so I could minimize the time to take off from work. They were late, stuck in cross town traffic, and apologized. They did stay later that day, to make up for arriving late. I didn't mind, because I only needed to take one hour off work. I have a large hosta plant in the pathway to build the platform and set the AC. I asked that they spare my plant. No problem! My plant was intact and perfectly fine the end of the day. I love my new Trane furnace and AC! This month's KWH (July, 2013) = 820; last year's KWH (July, 2012) = 1339. That's a large energy savings! (Considering how hot this July has been in Central Ohio.) My former system was a 20-year-old American Standard. The new HVAC is everything the older system wasn't. Quiet, energy efficient, better distribution of cooling throughout the house. The furnace is a 2-stage, variable speed 95% efficient furnace; the AC is a 2-stage AC. I spent $1250 on the Clean Effects air cleaner. It was worth every penny! I am no longer suffering from painful sinus headaches from allergies to dust and mold. I am not taking antihistamines daily, which is much better for my body. Quality of my sleep has improved. Amazing what a difference the air cleaner has made in my life! Rick is coming back soon to seal the duct work and put in a grate over my cold air return space. His recommendation to adjust the airflow in the ducts has made a difference with distributing the cooling more evenly in my Clintonville 2-story home. I would highly recommend Hetter for HVAC recommendations and installation.

Hetter accommodated the relocation of the A/C units due to unserviceable original location (lines under concrete slab) . This was beyond what was originally planned. The installers were obviously experienced and completed the job quickly and cleanly.

They were a great company to work with and I would highly recommend them. The staff was professional and got all of the work completed in one day and the clean up was spotless.

Received an estimate for new AC/Heating system. The representative was punctual, the presentation was professional, and after 5 total estimates Hetter was the runner up to the company we finally chose. Would have been satisfied to have used them and would recommend them to others.

Kevin from Hetter saved us a ton of money. We had gotten a quote last fall from a company telling us that we needed to replace both our furnace and air conditioning unit. A second estimate, by Hetter, was more thorough. It turns out, our furnace was less than 10 years old and only parts needed replacing, due to the air conditioning coils leaking onto furnace parts. By giving us an honest estimate, we fixed our furance through Hetter and called them first thing this Spring to install a new air conditioning unit. By providing honest answers and excellent products, we are now Hetter customers for good.
