Hetter Heating & Cooling

As mentioned, we researched various Heating and Cooling companies. Hetter was the only company who was straightforward with their products and pricing. The estimator (Rick) did a thorough inspection of our existing heating and cooling system (he even cleaned out our furnace during the inspection!) and told us truthfully that only the central air needed replacement due to faulty compressor. All other companies we received estimates from had tried to sell us complete heating and cooling systems! Rick's honesty was refreshing. After signing the contract, they came to install our new Trane central air system. The workmen were courteous and very friendly. Because we have an older home, our existing furnace is an odd shape, but that didn't stop the crew from expert installation of the new AC. When finished, the workmen taught us about the system, how to care for it and how to use the new digital thermostat. With our purchase, Hetter offered a free inspection in autumn for our furnace to winterize it. True to their word, they called us (instead of us calling them to remind them) and again, no surprises with the furnace were found. They are a terrific local company and will recommend them to others.

Today Columbus had a level 2 snow emergency and a winter storm warning. I called this company around nine this morning and had a water heater on it's way to my house in an hour. I was given an estimate over the phone once I measured the old water heater and supplied some additional information. The new water heater was installed by Walt and he did a fantastic job. He explained everything to me and put up with all my endless questions while working. Everyone was helpful and polite. I'm sorry I can't remember the names of the other men that helped him bring in and take out the old water heater but Walt actually did the instillation. I am so happy I have a new water heater at a reasonable price.

Installers were professional and on-time.

Pilot light failed on Christmas Day and wouldn't restart with a house full of in-laws on the way to visit! I called around the next day and couldn't get anyone to come out without charging exorbitant after-hours fees. I called Hetter and they had Chuck come out right away. He showed up within 1.5 hours and had the thermocouple replaced and the water heater back on in 20 minutes or so. Great service, very professional, and reasonably priced. I wish my homeowner's warranty company used them!

They called before they came and arrived at the scheduled time. They were very polite. They explained what they were doing as the job progressed and showed me what I could do for future maintenance.

I contacted six companies, all highly regarded on Angie's List. While a few others did approximate heating/cooling load calculations, Hetter Heating and Cooling was the ONLY one to conduct a computerized calculation of heating and cooling load. Like SOME(but amazingly not all)of the companies contacted came to my house with materials regarding the low, medium and high end options. Based upon my preferences, I received an approximate estimate on the spot based upon Mr. Hetterscheidt's manual calculation of heating and cooling needs. Instead of doing this on the basis of the published square footage of the house, he was the only one to factor into the calculation that we live in our four-season room that has windows floors to ceiling. By the end of the next days, he had emailed me an updated estimate with the computerized calculations attached for verification. This is what Consumer Reports suggests consumers request from contractors, and he was the only one who did this. The price was in the low range given the quality/efficiency of the furnace. Be careful that lower estimates are not based upon smaller HVAC systems than you require or-just as bad-that contractors are not trying to sell you a bigger HVAC system than you need. This is why heating/cooling load calculations are so important. The installations team arrived on time, finished early and thoroughly cleaned up after themselves.

When I called to get an estimate, Rick made it very convenient to meet. He gave me a very detailed estimate including measurements and 2 different options. I had already gotten one other estimate and both of Hetter's options came in below the other company. I waited about a month before deciding to install and when I called, they came out the next week. There was a little misunderstanding about the start time of the installation, but once he got started everything went very smoothly. I appreciated not having to stay home all day and wait. They were finished before I got home from work and everything was cleaned up and looked great. I used the six months same as cash financing option. Hetter facilitated collecting all of the information and getting it to the financing company. My only complaint has nothing to do with Hetter. The financing company has called twice to try to loan me even more money that I don't want or need. I had a great experience with Hetter and would recommend them in a heartbeat.

Good Experience. They set an appointment to come out for an estimate the same day we called. Rick came out and did a through review of our current systems and made a number of recommendations. He followed up the next day with information on rebates available and up coming promotions. Their price was similar to the company we chose to work with. We had a very positive experience with Hetter but chose a different company because we had done business with them before and were familiar with their work.

The company takes care of our needs twice a year, checking the furnace and our AC. They change the rather complicated filter that our furnace requires, and having a service contact assures that we get timely service each season. Staff members sent to our home are always polite, professional, and knowledgeable.

We were planning to purchase a new refrigerator after the power outage caused by hurricane Ike's winds but the water leaking from under the water heater on Monday morning put that on hold. We researched new gas water heaters at the big box stores and on-line and then consulted Angie's List for a local company to install a new water heater. The comments on Angie's List about Hetter are true. The office staff ladies who answer the phone and set the appointment are very helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. Since we didn't have an emergency, the appointment was set up for five days later. They called in the morning to let us know the installer was on his way. Chuck was courteous and neat and tidy. He replaced the copper pipes that were leaking above the heater, installed the new heater, and removed the old one. He explained, carefully, how to re-light the gas and suggested that we periodically open the bottom valve to release the rust and sediment to prolong the life of the water heater.

This price was for the repair and the service call. They were very responsive and arrived on time. They gave me an accurate estimate of what needed to be done. They completed the work within a timely manner. I would use them again in the future and would recommend them to others.

The installers were very professional, worked from 8:30 am to 6:30 pm, with a short lunch, and cleaned up all the dust and particles left on our basement floor. All old equipment was removed, as requested. They explained the new digital thermostat, made sure our outside door remained closed as they came in and out all day, answered questions politely and did a first class job. We chose this company not only because of their estimate, but because they are small with < 15 employees and located less than 15 minutes from us. Our other HVAC company had nearly 100 employees, with both a residential and commercial division. When we needed servicing and repairs there were so many different personnel, some of which we weren't sure were competent, that we hope a family owned small company will serve our needs better. The energy efficient Trane equipment is very quiet and will be the source of lower gas and electric bills.

Rick Hetterscheidt visited our home, inspected the existing equipment, analyzed the duct system and discussed our home s HVAC needs and the equipment options with us in detail. He then prepared a timely and professional estimate. As it turned out, another contractor's estimate was a little lower so we went with that firm.

There was a slight hiccup during the process. I was under the impression that a heat pump was being installed when in fact an air conditioner had been installed. I talked to Rick, who promptly sent someone out to see what it would need to happen to take out the new A/C unit and put in a heat pump (which I admit I didn't explicitly say heat pump when I made the decision). They could have easily said "No, we can't do it because of...." and I wouldn't have known the difference and been on my way. Instead they said no problem, said sorry for the confusion, and scheduled an appointment for the next week to have the units swapped out (which required more internal wiring). I was pleasantly surprised with the level of customer service. The quality of work appears to be excellent. The technicians (on both days) were friendly and willing to explain exactly what they were doing. I would highly recommend using Hetter to anyone.

They are excellent. They come out right away when I have a problem.

Arrived on time and finished early.

Arrived on time struggled in the tight space and did an excellent job. During the water heater replacement Rick showed up on time, and gave me an estimate on my AC replacement. They are several hundred dollars less than another estimate I received.

John came out to look and determined that an adjustment should be made to the exhaust pipe length which would eliminate the condensation on the outside wall. He took a paint sample and bought paint to match the house. They did a great job and did not charge me for this work! (I had Hetter originally install the furnace and air conditioner, and I have a routine service agreement.) This was great customer service.

I'm real happy with them, they were on time and very courteous towards me. They were cleaned up properly. They did exactly what I asked them to do for my air conditioner.

We had Hetter come out for our spring A/C checkup and were informed that it was unlikely to do the age and condition of our A/C that it would break down this summer. Repair options were given but also informed us that other things would likely break down if unit repaired (again due to age of A/C) Technician informed us of how energy efficient new A/C units were and gave me a brochure for units they install. I did get quotes from 3 other companies but Hetter's estimate from Rich was comparable and they offered a better warranty than the other companies and we already had a prior relationship with Hetter from installing a water heater and we have been very happy with their technicians, office and overall work. The technicians who did the installation were very friendly, cleaned up after themselves and worked in a timely manner. They made sure we were happy with everything before they left and Rich called a day later to make sure we were satisfied with everything. I'm glad we replaced the A/C when we did after all the 90' days we recently had.

I liked the fact that they had a long and up to date history on Angie's' List. We try to use local service providers. I thought that they were professional and was comfortable letting them into our home. They did a thorough job.

This is the 2nd job they've done for me. We've had maintenance contracts with them over the past few years and the technicians are knowledgeable, pleasant, and courteous.

It went very well-- Chuck was courteous and professional. The office receptionist was also very helpful when I called her. They called me about 30 minutes before the service man arrived.
