Over the past few months I was noticing that the deck attached to my house was starting to sink in the corner. I contacted several handyman repair people for estimates and Handyman Guys, Inc. was the fastest to respond. I contacted them on Friday and they responded the same day, then they came out for an estimate on Saturday. The price seemed very reasonable and they were able to come out on Wednesday to repair the deck. They came right on time, explained what they were doing, and did a wonderful job. I am so happy with the work they did and I would definitely use them again for any future repair needs.

Brian gave me an estimate on the same day. He broke down the prices of all the jobs so I could pick and choose the jobs I wanted done first. They called later in the week to ask if I'd received the estimate and if I wanted to employ their services. It was great! The 2 man crew showed up at 8 am for 2days and worked until 5. They cleaned up every day. Justin and Chris were really nice guys who didn't mind when I would watch them work. Justin did the plastering , Chris took care of painting. You can't tell there was work done on the ceiling ( although I think that's because the finish guys did such a fantastic job too). Yes I'll be hiring them again.

The bathroom remodel was horrible. Wood work was not sanded and cleaned prior to installation. Any debris on the woodwork was painted over. The paint was actually painted with a roller. Grout lines for the tile floor are various widths and the grout is crumbling. The metal and glass mosaic was rough cut and rough cut unevenly. Grout lines for the mosaic are uneven and some of the metal pieces are bent. Wall tiles in the bathtub surround were broken into; piece together and installed. The bathtub faucet was not fastened within the wall. It can actually be easily pulled from the wall. Nail heads are visible on the drywall. Nail heads on the trim in the bathroom and will as the trim around the doors were not filled. Doors were not installed properly. Doors stick to the heavily roller applied paint. The door only comes together at pressure points/ There is so much pressure the paint on the doors is pulled off. The bathtub is scratched. The drain cover does open enough to allow for adequate draining. Water pools up in the sink. They returned two times to deal with the above problems. They repaired very few. After the second of the two return trip, 71 issues were flagged. When Lowe's told them they needed to return a third time, Handyman Guys refused to do so and no longer sub-contract for Lowe's. May 71 problems that were the result of poor craftsmanship by Handyman Guys, Inc. have not been resolved. I canback-up everything I have said herein. I have attached some pictures taken when I was told the bathroom and door projects were completed. There are more problems and I have additional photos. Please do not hesitate to ask questions.
Description of Work: Handyman Guys, Inc. was subcontracted by Lowe's to completely remodel my main bathroom and and install 5 new pre-hung doors.
Overall, the project went extraordinarily well! Brian came out on two separate occasions; the first time to give me an estimate on the framing and the second time to go over a few extra things that I wanted to be completed (bathroom work and an additional landing at the foot of the stairs). He was very punctual and made it out to my house, on both occasions, in a very timely manner. He sent me over a quote within hours of leaving my house. The price was very reasonable and the timeframe was ideal. The crew came out to start the project on a Tuesday morning and were finished and cleaning by 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. They were the epitome of professionalism and integrity - they worked tirelessly and communicated effectively with me throughout the duration of the project. Upon completion, they walked the basement with me to give a brief overview of what they did and made sure that I was satisfied with the completed work. They even added a few nice touches that weren't in the original blueprint, and didn't try to raise the price from the original quote to do so. The Handyman Guys completed the project exactly when they said they would and the quote is exactly what I paid after the completion of the project. This is a very trustworthy and distinguished company that I would highly recommend for any project that a potential customer is considering. I couldn't be happier with the results and I want to thank them for making the process a flawless one from beginning to end.
Description of Work: I was in need of framing for my basement to be completed. In addition, I needed the water lines ran to the half bath that is to be put in, the shower cap drain to be capped and sealed (house came with rough-ins for a full bath) and the pipe for the sink to be routed to the desired location.

Let's just say this nightmare remodel prompted me to become an Angie's List member. Job was only to take 1 week (5 days) and it took 10 days. Lucky enough I had vacation time to cover the extra week, otherwise not sure how much extra time the job would have taken. The pictures on their website are not jobs they have performed. I was shown a few photos of bathroom remodels they had done and they were good, so I thought I was OK to hire them. The company is not organized, you never knew who was going to show up that day, except one worker was constant and probably the most knowledgeable. Hanydman Guys even hired Calhoun Plumbing to install bathtub, tub walls and shower faucet and drain. Calhoun plumbers appear to be knowledgeable and courteous, but they do not listen to customer wants and install how they think it should be done and cut corners, would not recommend them either. Owner of Handyman Guys had to fire Calhoun from job. Handyman guys are not that good of drywall hangers/patchers or painters. They hung my shower door crooked and their fix was to put weather stripping on one door to stop water from getting on floor. The whole problem is the walls are not plumb, therefore shower door doesn't seal properly when closed. They didn't clean subfloor before laying down vinyl and you can feel bumps under the flooring. Cut wood trim around door frame too short and filled bottom with caulk. Not sure what they would have done if the woodwork wasn't white. Plumbing behind walls for shower goes straight down to laundry room and good for that because everytime a shower is taken there is water spots on concrete floor. Every day since job has been completed I can spot another mess up from these guys. Of course I got the "this has never happened before on other jobs" story and "we have hired Calhound before and there was not complaints with the company". I can't stress enough to not hire this company for a remodel, maybe I got the short straw and they do good work, but not at my house. They did take $200.00 off the bill for all the trouble I had.
Description of Work: Remodel small bathroom. Replaced bathtub, tub walls, shower faucet and sink faucet and new vanity and installed new light fixture with fan and tore out old tub and walls and wall behind vanity and tore out old flooring and installed all new.

We had a few jobs we need completed in our home and we went with Handyman Guys based off of other reviews on Angie's List. We got 3 quotes for this job and this company was by far the most responsive. Stanley was very punctual and professional. He explained the entire job and the process to us in a way that we could understand what was happening. When he learned that the backslpash what we had chosen was more difficult than he originally thought, he did not complain, but instead pushed forward, took his time and did an incredible job. He ended up having to come back a second time to finish the job. The company was able to schedule a time that was convenient for my wife to be home. With the work in the kitchen finished, Stanley quickly completed the other two small projects. For the quantity and quality of the work that was done, I was very surprised by the final price as I thought the value was much higher than what we paid, which is always great! I would recommend Handyman Guys for these types of projects. They did great work!

I called on Tuesday, June 16 to set up an appointment for an estimate on some work I need done for my home that I am selling. I live in a different state now so when I come into town my time is very carefully planned out. I made an appointment for June 16 at 6 PM. My real estate agent came as well, since she will be overseeing the work. 630 comes and no call no show. I called the office and get a recording that the office is closed. My time was wasted, my real estate agents time was wasted, this is unconscionable business practices. Now because of The Handyman Guys lack of professionalism and concern for first time I've wasted a day trying to get work done on my home I am trying to sell. I will not give these people a chance again my time is too valuable.

I had two guys assisting, Rob and Jose. Jose did the caulking and baseboard removal. Rob hung the ceiling fans, outdoor light, and assisted with the baseboard. Both didn't mess around, but were taking enough time to do things correctly. I appreciated that! Jose even did some extra caulking for me without hesitation. Both were professional and cleaned up afterwards. They saved me a ton of time and frustration.

We had an overall terrible experience with Handyman Guys, Inc. We dealt directly with the owner at the beginning and long the way. He initially told us the work would take 2 months. The job started in August 1, 2014 and ended up taking 10 months. We were mislead several times along the way directly by the owner about when the job would be done and when several steps along the way would be done. At the end of three months we told him we wanted to re-negotiate the price, and he assured us the job would be done by the end of November 2014. We have an email from him stating it will be done in November. He also even stated that things like touch ups on paint would get done by a certain time even if he had to come over and do it himself. Of course that did not happen. We had 10 months of cleaning our floor and bathroom and the general inconvenience of workers coming in and out. Although there were times when weeks would go by without any workers coming over or any kind of progress being made. We had a number of other issues including early on workers smoking in the house and regularly leaving cigarette butts on our front porch. Every time we tried to talk to the manager we were either lied to or brushed off. The one exception was he took the guy who was smoking in the house of the job. But workers kept leaving cigarette butts on our front porch. Then the worst part of it all, the owner had the nerve to threaten to take action if we did not pay our final payment the day after the work was done. We initially agreed to pay half up front and half when the work was completed. We obviously paid the half up front. Then they asked for 25% around the 6 or 7 month mark. Aside from the fact the job was already 4 months over, we were fine paying 25% for supplies. Then we were rudely pressured to submit the final payment with the threat to take further action if we did not submit the payment the day after the work was done. Again, that was directly from the owner who had assured us the job would be done 6 months earlier and directly himself had lied to us on a number of other occasions. When we complained about how long the job took, he again sent a rude email saying he could ?accept? a final payment that would give us a 3% discount. Again no apology or explanation offered. The actual final product was fine. I don't think any better than it would have been with any number of other options that we could have (and should have) gone with. At many points along the way we had to ask them to fix or change things. And they tried to force us into some decisions we didn?t want to make near the end. Based on the job taking 500% longer than we were told and how we were lied to and treated rudely throughout the project, I would never work with this company again. I would never recommend this company to anyone for anything.
Description of Work: We had our basement finished including installation of a bathroom. The basement was previously unfinished. There was a plumbing line already in, but it had to be moved. We finished about 80% of the basement and left about 20% for storage.
The 2 guys who did the work came on time every day and came ready to work. They knew their stuff and cleaned up multiple times per day. They kept me apprised of every thing they were doing and solicited my input on issues or preferences. They kept all tools in a neat area out of walkways and covered and enclosed the bathroom when they mudded and sanded. Each night they put all work materials in my garage or their own trucks. They weren't called away to finish other jobs (well maybe once) and I had the consistency of having the same guys doing the project. They were personable and respectful of my space and treated my wife and I in a friendly professional way. They were fairly accurate on their estimate of when the job would be completed as well I had a frank discussion with the owner prior to the project beginning as I had expected someone else to actually do the work. I was a little heated and he mostly kept his cool (I was more upset with the general contractor and took it out on him a bit) . Anyway all he said would happen did so I respect him for that. He came out at least once to inspect the work product and job progress. When I had an issue he sent a foreman in to tear out a wall and fix the studs needed to attach the shower door. These guys were really good and I wouldn't hesitate to use them shin.
Description of Work: Tore out existing shower, tore out soffit above shower rerouted wiring to lights and fan. Put in new fan and control put in new light. Put in new cultured marble walls, plumbing and hardware for shower. Put in new ceiling where soffit was. Tore out wall behind bathroom to put 2 x 6's in order to install and brace new shower door. This is the most unreliable and unprofessional business we have come across in our 20 years as home owners. Very disappointing and would never recommend.
Description of Work: This provider sub-contracted services to RJ Contractors, who ruined our custom woodwork railing and doors. The paint jobs were the only thing done correctly and those were sub-contracted, too. We ended up paying $900.00 to a plumber who had to redo the damage Handyman Guys had caused. Then we I told Brian, the owner, we were not paying the rest of the bill until we had our woodwork repaired he threatened a lien on our property. Really?? They caused more damage than we started with.

Response from Handyman Guys, Inc.
Hello [member name removed], We wanted to take a second to respond to your comments here on Angies List and to add some details we feel were left out that are important to your experience with our company. We admit to some mistakes early on with your project. At that time we were very busy and thought we could use a secondary contractor to fulfill the work you needed while watching them closely to make sure they were performing the work to a high standard. Unfortunately, they did not do a quality job, and the fault of that lies on our shoulders. To remedy the situation, we pulled guys from other jobs to correct those issues. At the time, you were very pleased with the progress we made, based on a number of phone conversations, and we felt that things were on the right track. We spent a number of days on your project, and while we concede there were mistakes, we were committed to doing the job completely. As stated, you were pleased with some aspects and we are happy to hear that. However, at the end of the job, you had communicated to us there were a couple of items that you felt were still incomplete, and we agreed to come out to finish any items that you were concerned about. We have email conversations from you with our company owner talking about how you are "eager for us to fix the final few things", but you could not allow us in your house because of an illness you were dealing with in your family. Of course we understood that fact and waited patiently for you to respond with a time or date we could finish the work. The date on that email was, June 17th, 2014. Almost a month later, on July 10th, we emailed to find out how things were, and if we could come back to your house to finish up. We did not get a response. On July 31st, 45 days later, we emailed you mentioning our desire to either come and complete the remaining work, get paid for the work that was completed, or other steps would need to be taken. And then finally, after a lack of response, on August 8th we felt our only recourse was to take more aggressive action. It has been our experience within this industry, that we run across people from time to time who have no intention of paying for work that has been performed. It is not the norm, however these things do happen, and the only way for us to recoup the money for the services we have rendered is to take action in court. We only have 60 days after the job is completed to take this action so with the situation we were dealing with concerning you, we didn't have much time left, and we felt that with the lack of meaningful communication, we didn't have any other choice. We were more than willing to come and finish any details you wanted, and we feel that characteristic in a company is a good thing. The willingness to get it right now matter the outcome. We did not get that chance. We both agreed that you would pay an amount you thought was fair. You paid less than the contracted amount, which was fine, because we accept responsibility in this situation as well. These situations come up once in a while with our company, and we regret when they happen at all. We know the stigma's that are out there concerning contractors, and we work very hard to make a good name for ourselves and those in our industry. And in an industry when you are dealing with people and their homes, it is almost impossible to make everyone happy, every time. However, the fact that after 53 reviews, we still have an "A" rating on Angies list speaks to our determination to do good work, and get it right the vast majority of the time. [member name removed], we are truly sorry you had a bad experience with our company. That was never our intention. If there are still issues that need to be dealt with, we would appreciate the opportunity to complete them. If our working relationship is too far gone for that option however, we understand. We appreciate you speaking your mind on this venue, and we thank Angie's list for the opportunity to respond. Sincerely, Handyman Guys
Kitty F.

Called and set up an appointment for an estimate for soundproofing a basement room which is being used as an office. The appointment was scheduled for Thursday July 10. However, received a call on Wednesday July 9th asking if I was available then, and they would come on out. I thought that was great. The person came, explained what I needed done, he took measurements, and made a video of the room. I explained I would purchase the materials, since he thought that putting up some insulation would be good enough. Insulation is already in the ceiling so I really need some good sound proof material. Said he would have an estimate for me within a couple of days. Haven't heard anything back. .

Hello Ms. [Member], We apologize that it took a little longer to get you the quote you requested. We were quite busy during that period and our estimating department was very bogged down. We did end up sending the quote to you within 10 days, and since it was a basement finishing, those do take slightly longer. Our representative might have mis-spoke when he said it would be a couple of days. By our records we emailed you the quote on July 18th, and you viewed it on that day as well. Again, we apologize for it taking a bit longer than normal, and if it is ok with you, we would like to make you a special offer if you are willing to consider our company in the future. Please call the office so we can discuss. Thanks for your time,
Stephanie E.
