We were all set to go w them and right before they were to start we doubled checked their measurements, compared it w other estimates we realized they were way off so we contacted them immediately. We shared the measurements we had received from others and they went with their information and realized their mistake but it should be $500. more! Their mistake was off by almost 23% in terms of area. Needless to say we were not prepared for that amount and hoped they would be flexible and take off an appropriate discount. They offered us 1% discount off the total price. This did not seem fair at all because if this had been the original estimate we would not have went with them anyway and all this time wasted so we decided to go with The Fence Guy.
Description of Work: They were supposed to build us a fence around our backyard.

The individual they sent out to do the job was fired. I stressed the deadline and they did not meet the deadline. They put a new contractor on the job but they did not tell him what to do. He was given materials that were cheap and unable to finish which added two days to the job. The owner did not come out and manage the new contractor. I had to manage the contractor. Cooper caps were not installed on the polls. A 15foot section of fence was not completed. The gate was not up to city code. The gate doesn't swing properly and the wrong latch was used. Because of all of the inconvenience I'm not paying the full price. The incompleteness of the job, lack of supervision, incorrect materials used, and price gouging means I will not pay full price. I had to call them twice when the guy did not show up. They did not give a confirmation on when they were to start the job, I had to call and get that information. The owner should have been out and explaining the job requirements.
Description of Work: They were hired to completed an existing fence around my pool that was just built.

Response from GRAVES FENCE CO
Graves Fence Co started the member's job on Monday as she requested. Our installer went out there first thing Monday to set the posts, told her it needed two days to set and we would be back on Wednesday. She said she told our installer Wednesday was the deadline but when we questioned the installer he said she told him it was Saturday. Upon hearing her need for the fence we immediately pulled another crew off an existing job. The details of the job were explained to them but the member changed the layout, a gate was enlarged and added a custom swing and special spring for the gate. To save time, one of our employees delivered the material. He realized the material from our supplier was not the quality we asked for when he got to the site so he turned around and exchanged it. The member had numerous trades and landscapers working where the fence was to be installed which delayed the job. She should have allowed us to finish the fence before the landscaping crew. We believe any delays on this job were due to faulty scheduling on the member. She also tried to breech her contract and hire our craftsmen to finish the job for a lesser price. The copper caps were offered to her as a favor and at no cost so we had no obligation to furnish a different style cap.

When I called to book the job, I was told they could start within a few days. I asked if they would be able to get the permit that fast. He said, ''oh, do we need a permit?'' Isn't it their job to know that? Well I looked it up on my city's website, and yes they need a permit. He said he would look into it and let me know. A week went by and I heard nothing. So I called them and they said they were scheduled to start the job in two days. ''Okay, did you get the permit''? He said he'd have to check into it and call me back. Again, two days went by and nothing. So I called him one last time and said I wanted to cancel the job due to lack of responsiveness on their part. He didn't try to defend himself or keep my business at all. He just said, ''okay''. Totally unprofessional.
Description of Work: Received estimate for a cedar wood picket fence around my yard. It took them 3 days and a reminder phone call to send me the estimate, but the price was very competitive so I booked the job. However, it was never completed.

THEY CAME HIGHLY RECOMMENDED BY ANGIE'S LIST AND I HAVE BEEN PLANNING THIS FOR OVER A YEAR. I ASKED THEM TO COME DURING JUNE AND JULY AND THEY WOULD NEVER COME OUT. I ASKED THEM NOT TO COME IF I WAS NOT HERE. I WENT BACK TO WORK FROM VACATION, AND THAT IS WHEN THEY CAME AND STARTED PUTTING POSTS IN. MOST OF THE POSTS WERE LESS THAN 2 FEET IN THE GROUND AND WERE WOBBLING. CHUCK FRANCES CAME OUT, WHO BROKE A GAS LINE AND HARASSING ME, SAYING I NEEDED TO PAY FOR IT. HE NEVER CALLED THE GAS COMPANY TO ARRANGE TO HAVE IT MARKED. I WAS INCONVENIENCED FOR A WEEK UNTIL I COULD GET THAT REPAIRED. THE POSTS ARE NOT ALONG THE LINES THAT THE SURVEYOR PUT UP, BUT ALONG THE LINES THAT THE GAS COMPANY HAD PUT UP. THE POSTS ARE SPREAD OUT, SO ITS NOT A PRIVACY FENCE. THEY CUT MY TREES BACK UNNECESSARILY FAR. I WOULD LIKE THEM TO COME AND GET ALL OF THIS STUFF AND LET ME START ALL OVER WITH SOMEONE ELSE. I HAVE DEVELOPED A REAL ILLNESS OVER THIS. THEY ARE ACTING VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. I AM DISAPPOINTED.
Description of Work: They are about 3/4 through installing a privacy fence. This 3/4 has been done incorrectly. I would not recommend them to anyone. They left debris in the yard. They did not need to cut the trees back as much as they did, and now the trees are probably going to die. Now I have a bunch of incorrectly set posts and boards that are not set close enough in my yard.

Response from GRAVES FENCE CO
Graves Fence installed the fence on the member's property line as requested. Trimming of trees or plants was necessary for the installation of the fence on the line requested. She told us not to trespass on the neighbors property line. She felt threatened and seemed unreasonably suspicious of her neighbor thinking the neighbor would try to interfere with the installation of the fence. She requested changes to the fence numerous times including extending the length of the fence line, changing the terminal fence detail and requesting a change from treated boards to red cedar all which caused delays and expense. As a courtesy to her and her concerns that her neighbor may try to remove her fence posts we reset the posts to 36" deep. Our contract has no stipulation on the quality of fence boards and certainly not the #1 quality she attempts to misrepresent was agreed upon. All fence boards used are typical fence grade lumber. Fence boards can shrink due to evaporation of the moisture content of the wood and is probable cause of the spacing between boards. Installing fence posts necessitates moving dirt. Any grading or cleaning is done after the fence is complete. She refused to settle on a final plan and was unreachable for many months. On over 10 occasions we have attempted to contact her leaving messaged to finalize the fence with no response and have stopped at her house on 2 occasions but she was either not home or refused to answer the door.
