The job went very well. They did a nice professional job and cleaned up great. The people were very friendly and very professional. We had three other quotes, and they were either lower or basically the same. We chose them because of their professionalism at the time of receiving the quote and talking with them plus the fact that they were a member of Angie?s List. We would rate them highly and would use them again in the future if necessary.

Fire and Ice came in to inspect our furnace and AC, as we just bought our house and wanted to see what kind of shape everything was in considering both units are about 20 years old. The tech. they sent in was professional, explained what he was doing, and even found a problem with our furnace, which he came back the next day to repair and let us know we could submit the bill to our home warranty company to be reimbursed. We are going to use this company again in the future for our annual HVAC tune-ups. They even sent a thank you card after working with us to thank us for our business.

Explained all the equipment options thoroughly, offered various combinations btwn the furnace, AC, and filtration..was willing to throw in extra filters, duct cleaning, service contract options to sweeten the deal if we went with a whole system replacement. The prices were very reasonable in our opinion for something that will last 20 yrs and has a 10 yr transferrable warranty. They were easy to schedule. The installation guys were prompt and took measures to keep floors clean as they entered and exited. Explained the whole system to me before they left, went over other things they found and fixed along the way - did not just do the bare minimum. Overall very happy, new system works great and we have a great warranty if something happens to go wrong.

The gentleman who came to give us an estimate was very thorough, knowledgeable and professional. He returned to double check measurements before the installation team arrived. The woman who cleaned our ducts put down tarps to keep our home clean and our wooden floors from being scratched by the machinery. She was friendly and hard working. The two men who worked on the installation were friendly, professional and meticulous. We are very pleased with the results.

Entire installation as well as a very thorough duct cleaning was all completed in a single day. Old furnace was removed. Sheet metal work on the new installation is amazing. There was a minor problem with the outdoor temperature which was fixed within a few hours of my call. All technicians were well mannered and extremely knowledgeable. They left the area cleaner than they found it. Great people to work with!

First the annual checkup from Fire and Ice went well. This was our first time having someone out as we purchased the home about a year ago. They found our main blower to need replacement and quoted us a price. We chose to have the furnace replaced due to age and main component needing replacement (not cheap) and of course the tax credit. Fire and Ice did not pressure us to replace the furnace, just gave us their prices on both options. Rodney came out a few days later to do the official estimate on the furnace. During the estimate it was determined that an online coupon I found had a typo in our favor (i.e. use of 'and' vs 'or'). Rodney honored the coupon without hesitation which we thought was the right thing to do. Their flat rate prices are nice for a consumer as some retrofitting work had to be done with our existing system. We liked the idea of the bill not changing at all from the quote. Anyhow on the day of installation the Fire and Ice crew arrived on-time to begin work. The work went without a problem and in the estimated window of time. All the technicians from our first service appointment to the install were very professional and polite. We met 5 of their employees for this whole project which is roughly half the company. All employees displayed clear photo identification with the company name which is a small thing but something I appreciate if they have to return some day when my wife is the only one home. No question to who is performing the work. They finished the work and gave me a tour of how to work the new thermostat. We had one small issue after installation that I should mention. I turned on the 'fan only' option on the new furnace but it didn't work. The fan was working fine when the heat was on but not if you just wanted to circulate the air. This happened about 30 minutes after the install crew left. So I called Fire and Ice to let them know and see when they could return to check it out. The response, to me, is the reason we will hire these folks again: "They are on another service call but that simply is not right, it should work properly for you today. Is it alright if they come over after they are done at the other customer's house?" So a little while later the install crew came back and had the issue resolved in minutes. I'm not quite sure what the issue was but I think it was very minor and they were kinda embarrassed about the problem. The owner, Scott, called the technician right as he walked back into our house to check on our furnace and make sure everything was okay. Nice to see the owner involved in his business. The furnace has been working fine ever since and we are eager to see the heating bills from this winter. Pricing was good and competitive, they refunded $179 for our first service call since we elected to replace the old furnace (refund is reflected in the total price above). We installed a Trane XV95, Trane programmable thermostat and Honeywell MERV 10 media air filter system in addition to the duct cleaning service. Would hire again, hope we don't have to!

It went great. It was our first time using this company (and our first fall tune-up, actually). The technician, Daniel was friendly and was not freaked out that my new kitten was trying to help him. He explained to me clearly what I need to know for proper care of our furnace. He did it in a timely manner and there were no surprises with the price (or with anything else). He was close to on-time but called ahead and let me know he was running a few minutes late.

I could not be more impressed with their service. Every single person from Fire & Ice that worked on our furnace was professional & knowledgable and they worked so hard to complete the job in one day. Their price was super competitive also, and their sales representative worked really hard to find us a unit that fit the budget and was high quality. If you want super HVAC service at probably the best price you can find, this company is it.

Great! The initial visit for the estimate didn't take long, Rodney took photos of the desired new location to send to the City (variance), e-mailed me the estimate and contacted the City when the person they normally dealt with was slow in responding. Someone from the City came out immediately and said it was no trouble...there had been some question regarding the distance between our home and the neighboring house. They had their electrician run the new lines and re-used as much of the old material as they could. It was a breeze compared with the other two companies I'd called for estimates. One quote I had was over $1,000, and the other wouldn't even consider it. They said the City wouldn't allow the move. Ha! Guess they didn't need my business.
Description of Work: They moved our air conditioner compressor from the backyard to the side of the house, ran new lines and plugged the old hole.

The people that Fire and Ice sent were very nice and courteous and they knew what they were doing. I can find no fault with the actions of the employees except for what is detailed below. Furnace was having problems again and had them out to take a look. In my previous review I was impressed with Fire and Ice for coming out for free and putting an ignitor in after they had put in a circuit board and found out that the circuit board was not the problem. I understand now why they did that. They did not want to refund the $590+ I had spent on the circuit board. Even with charging me for the second trip and the ignitor I would have saved $300 on that first repair IF they had taken back the part that DIDN'T need replacing. This time I was told the part was $210 plus $30+ pickup fee on top of the $85 service charge. I was also told that they couldn't get the part till next week. I was told later that they couldn't come till next week because they did not have a spot open but I am believing the FIRST thing I was told. Now let's get to the issue I now have with Fire and Ice. Now that I am wiser and realize I over spent for the first repair by $300+ I decided to do some checking. The circuit board that I had replaced wholesales for $168.88. Even if we give them the benefit of the doubt and it cost more from a local supply house that still translates into a 250% markup. The latest repair is even worse. The sensor that needed replacing, as I said before, was being priced to me at $210+$30 pickup totaling $240. The sensor is a 2 screw 2 wire 1 vacuum hose hook up that takes about 7 minutes, maybe. Since they could not get the part quickly I checked on line myself for the part needed. It cost me $27.77. That is almost 800% markup! Now I do understand that companies are in the business to make money and they need to charge more for parts but this amount of markup is ridiculous. I own a service company myself and my markup is between 12% and 80% depending on the item bought. I cannot in good conscious recommend a company that wants to charge almost 10X the wholesale cost of a part.
Description of Work: Check why furnace was not coming on. Checked all parts and determined it was a pressure sensor that had gone bad.

Response from Fire & Ice Heating & Air Conditioning, Inc
We provide flat rate pricing for our customers. We let you know what the total cost is up front before we do a repair and give you the choice of what you want to do. The actual cost of a part is but one of many factors involved in any repair. A homeowner must ask themselves a question when presented with any pricing structure. Do I have the necessary skills to diagnose and repair my problem? If not, the only choice is to hire a company that has to employ highly skilled, educated technicians that make good money due to high demand and low supply of HVAC technicians. That highly skilled technician has to get to my house somehow. That technician has to have diagnostic equipment on the front end and testing equipment on the back end of each repair. The part that is needed for a repair has to be purchased from a supply house and picked up by the technician after it is ordered by administrative staff that also answers the phones when you call. Once the new part is installed and tested, a warranty on said repair would most likely be desired by any homeowner as it should be. If we marked up a $1 part 10,000% which would equal $100, and then charged that $100 for a repair, we would lose hundreds of dollars in the process. Therefore being out of business in no time at all. As you can see, a part mark-up alone cannot be the only factor in the cost of a repair or everyone would be using fireplaces in the winter and staying in the shade in the summer, because no HVAC companies would exist. We don't hide our flat rate pricing, we tell you the price up front and you decide whether you want us to do it. This homeowner was given many choices throughout this process. In the inital repair we replaced a circuit board that was defective, we made an error by not replacing the circuit board and ignitor at the same time, so we replaced the ignitor for free on a second trip. We are accused of bad business practice because we tried to save the homeowner some money by not replacing both at the same time. I guess we can chalk this up to "No Good Deed Goes Unpunished"

The initial experience was great. However. On 8/20/10, our AC went out. We called the service line and left two messages, and as of this report, almost 24h after the initial message on a 90 degree day we still have not heard back from them. We were forced to call another company to repair our AC. I doubt we will use this company again.
Description of Work: We contracted Fire and Ice to move our AC unit to a new location and install a humidifier on on system. They did a good job, troubleshooting as they went and getting the unit moved in anticipation of a patio being placed. The owner even came out and solved a problem his technicians were unable too, returning the next day to replace the defective part. We were happy with this initial service call.

Response from Fire & Ice Heating & Air Conditioning, Inc
The homeowner was very pleased with the service that we performed last year. This past weekend there were some issues with the call forwarding program on our phone service. It is unfortunate that we were given bad marks for a phone company issue. The messages did not come through the system till late Saturday night, we did contact the homeowner twice on Sunday with no response from them. Our record indicates that we are very concerned with each and every homeowners issue and always will be.

The installations were done in one day, all company representatives, including office staff, were professional. We were very satisfied. They did a great job of cleaning up and were very informative. We called a couple of days prior to installation and requested a easy read thermostat and was told there would be no problem installing one. A free duct cleaning was included with our purchase. That was done the following week and we were very please with that experience. Fire & Ice has been doing seasonal checkups for us for approximated the last four years.

We had our complete Heat Pump and Compressor (indoor unit and outdoor unit) system replaced along with the duct cleaning. We had 3 estimates done and Fire and Ice offered the best deal. They were professional and efficient every step of the way! I would recommend them without hesitation. We got the two stage (high efficiency) westinghouse system with the programmable thermostat. With this system, we will get the full tax credit at the end of the year. Even when it is running at the second stage, the system is quieter than our old luxair. But it has great efficiency and barely needs to run above the first stage (even with the 90+ weather and the house set at 71). The guy who did the estimate was prompt and answered every one of our questions without making us feel like he was trying to "sell us". He was honest and trustworthy. We even double-checked his answers by doing our own online research. They were able to get us scheduled the next week and the two guys who came out arrived on time and worked for 9 hours straight and did a fantastic job! They answered all of my questions along the way and explained what they were doing as I watched. They were very thorough and took care of every detail down to sealing the little corners with caulk and cleaning up after themselves (and hauling the old system away) at the end. The air duct cleaning was a great deal!! Our ducts were very bad and we were about to pay $400 to have them cleaned but we got it for free with the new system - so glad we waited!! I secretly took pictures of the ducts before they came and after they left to inspect the work and they were spotless!! Very pleased! We are now enjoying our new system and are proud to recommend Fire and Ice to anyone for their heating and cooling needs!!

Of the 5 companies who bid on the job, Fire & Ice offered the best combination of A/C system quality (a Westinghouse system compatible with my furnace), warranty (10 years on BOTH parts and labor plus a free 1 year maintenance contract), responsiveness, professionalism, and price. I was very impressed by the level of detail on the job, materials, and logistics provided during the estimate. I was please with their willingness to accommodate my schedule to do the installation on the weekend following the estimate. The installers were prompt, professional, and conscientious. They worked well as a team and did a quality job. Their high level of service was evident by the extra effort they took to haul away a long unused concrete pad and non-working window A/C unit. I would absolutely recommend this company.

I obtained 3 estimates for this job using Angie's List to make my selection. We chose Fire & Ice mainly because they were a smaller company, with lots of hand on experience and their responsiveness and the reports I read convinced us to choose them. During the estimating process, they answered all of my questions and respected all the research I had done. I appreciated having someone work with me who was not just a sales rep but someone who has years of hands-on experience. The day of the installation, the 4 person crew arrived on time and worked like clockwork for 9 hours. They act and work like a real team: No time wasted and everyone has their jobs to do. You can tell they take pride in their work and want to do a good job. During the day, they kept me posted and answered any questions I had. Rod, the person that did my estimate, stopped by to check on the job and to see if I had any questions. A week or so after the install, Rod scheduled to stop by and go over how the system was working - just as a follow up. It is great to work with a company that truly believes in providing good customer service! Our inspection by the City of Columbus was effortless. I would strongly recommend this company to anyone, whether for a service call or a new system.

First, let me say that this review is LONG overdue. I put it off until after my spring tune-up just to make sure that I was still as impressed after nearly a year - and I am. On 06/25/09, I called Fire and Ice for an estimate to replace my furnace and A/C. The old units were 23 years old and the A/C had just died on me earlier that day. (Another company had come out that day to replace the contactor (for 440.00), but it failed the next day). The next day (06/26/09), Scott Merritt came out promptly at 7AM for the estimate. For all of the work/equipment listed above, I was quoted a price of 6,850.00. Combined with the tax credit, I was pleased with the final tally of 5,350.00. Later that day, I got another estimate from a well known provider. That estimate came in at 9,325.00 and didn't include the duct cleaning or humidifier. Since the A/C died again this same day, I called Scott and told him that I'd give him the contract if he would come out and fix my old A/C until a crew could install the new equipment. Rather than stick me with the cost of a temporary fix, he offered to have one of his guys bring a window A/C over to get me through the heat until they could install - at no charge. That impressed me tremendously - it's the little things that matter and Scott obviously was putting the customer first. The window A/C was installed before 4PM and they even cut some boards to hold up the top half of the window that was defective. installation was scheduled for 7/1/09 - just five days later! The big day arrived and the crew was on time, got right to work, and knew their stuff. I was working at home that day and there was no disruption to what I was doing (though the cats were a bit spooked - not the fault of the crew). They had obtained all permits and were ready to go immediately. They explained how the dampers worked and even got air up into the second floor where I'd never felt air come through before. (Now I don't have to use the space heater when I sleep in the winter) Much to my surprise, they even cleaned the registers before replacing them - now that's service! The employees all spoke highly of the company, and specifically Scott. This is important as employee respect for the boss directly impacts quality of work. Fire and Ice gives back to the community by sponsoring various charitable organizations. I just couldn't have asked for a better experience. Fire and Ice contacted me to schedule my spring tune-up and it was done quickly and efficiently. Again, no attempts to get me to buy things that I didn't need. If you need to replace your old furnace and/or A/C, give Fire and Ice a call. I bet that you'll have a good experience. If your equipment is old, do it now - I'm enjoying tremendous savings in my monthly utility bills with the new Trane equipment.
Description of Work: Installation of new Trane high efficiency furnace and A/C, condensate pump, humidifier, and digital/programmable thermostat. Included a 4" furnace filter, full house duct cleaning, and 1 year Energy Savings Plan (spring and fall tune-ups). I eventually went with another company, but felt that Rodney was honest, explained different options, I really appreciated Rodney's professionalism, how he worked around my busy schedule, and appreciated that he didn't harass me after providing the estimate (which some others did).
Description of Work: Rodney met me at my home to discuss and provide an estimate for A/C and furnace replacement.
