The service technician was very professional and nice. She explained everything that she was doing to me and found a small gas leak that needed to be repaired. Otherwise, there was no rattling noise and the inspection and cleaning went off with no problems. I would highly recommend this company. Very professional, punctual and friendly. A+
Description of Work: Fire and Ice came to my home the next week after purchase (9/7/13) and did a complete inspection and cleaning of my furnace. The home inspector and buyers said there was a "rattling noise" that needed to be checked out.

Overall, they are very professional, detail oriented, active and willing to help. We did not choose Fire and Ice because of budget consideration but they did impress me and we might consider them for future service call.

It was great! Brad arrived right on time and explained everything he did to my husband. We had had the same problem before, but the problem soon recurred as only a partial fix was done. This time we called a different company--Fire & Ice--whom we had not used before. Brad discovered that the drain pipe was blocked and that the drip pan was tilted--both of which contributed to the water leak. He was happy to answer any questions and was a total professional. We were thrilled to have discovered this company!

The men arrived on time at 8am. They were shown everything from where the furnace was located and where all the ducts and intakes were in my house. I had my duct work all vacuumed out. Each man was professional in their job. They worked outside, down in the basement and around the house. They placed drop cloths wherever they worked and wore shoe coverings to protect the surfaces in my home. They cleaned up their areas satisfactorily and took out all the debris left from the removal of my furnace and air conditioner. Any garbage they left from their work they picked up and took away. It took about 7 - 8 hours. They worked very hard and did a good job. *** Just a quick update..... After the install was done we had that really hot and muggy week. The AC system did not seem to be working properly, but we were unsure if it was just the extreme weather, or if there was an issue with the system. So we called Fire & Ice to come out and check it out. The technician came out and did find a couple of things that were missed during the install. However, it was nothing major and he was able to correct them without any issue. He also took a lot of time show us some things, adjusting the dampers in the basement. The customer service was outstanding. This really confirms out rating of Fire & Ice. I was very pleased with how this was all done for us.

Perfect!!! Could not ask for better service or customer service. Did not feel gouged in the wallet by having a service call at 5am. Exceptional team of people to conduct business with. They even contacted us while on vacation to provide periodic updates and status reports even though we had made arrangements for our parents to be at the house. It was nice to hear directly that everything was on schedule.

I didn't care for the company. I eneded up going for another company because Fire & Ice told me that I needed a whole new outdoor unit and compressor on my air conditioner and it just needed a motor on it. So they were trying to charge me $3,400 for those. There was no integrity so I give them an "F" in professionalism.

Everything went perfectly with Fire & Ice Heating & Air Conditioning. They did everything they said they would do. They were on time. When I called in the spring and told them I couldn't get our air conditioner to start, she gave me some tricks to try instead of sending someone out for a service call so I'd have to pay a service fee. The tricks ended up working so I actually didn't need their help at all.

The unit has only been installed for a few days, so the workmanship and longevity of the product and installation are still TBD, but the experience was very good overall. Their consultant was not a salesman, but a technician with 25 years of actual installation experience. Their prices were extremely competitive, and they were able to do the install within a few days of us making the booking--and this is their busy season. The installation team was polite, professional and left the house in good shape (they put down drop cloths, covered their shoes when inside, etc. The installation seems to be very good, and so far the unit is working well. So far, our experience with this organization has been great.

They came out twice to identify the problem with our air conditioner. Kelly explained and taught us a lot. They gave us a chance to verify we didn't have coverage under a warranty before they did something that would negate that for us, which was a great way to gain our trust. They found the problem, fixed it very efficiently. Kelly was excellent: we were the last appointment of her day and after a rough appointment previous to us, she still showed up after hours and stayed until about 730PM to make sure to get the job finished. Absolutely wonderful!

UPDATE: I'm changing my grade to a "C" from an "F." Although the overall experience was as described below, I believe that this is a good, decent company that stands behind its work. When I called and explained the situation, the service manager was very professional and listened to my story. She did not say that "of course" another company would say the work was not done right. As I mention below, a bad TVX valve can happen; they can even come from the factory not working, but this should have been checked. In any case, she took the notes the the company owner, and I received a call at 8:45 the next morning on my way to work that they would refund the charge for the installation of the evaporator coil and that it was not up to their normal standards. I believe that this is the case. Within a day or so, I received a letter apologizing for the way in which this installation had gone, along with a receipt showing that the charge had been credited back to my card. Based on the response, I truly believe that the story below is not representative of the work that this company is capable of doing, and their reaction demonstrated that it this is a professional company from the very top. ORIGINAL STORY: When the technician left, she wrote on the invoice that "system is now operating and cooling." The problem is, the system is operating but not cooling. The weather was cool in the days after the coil was installed, and we were away for 4 days, and when we finally used the system a few days later, it didn't cool. We had been a little concerned, because the technician from Fire and Ice left tools next to the furnace. She also left a two plates that should have been replaced, and which force air over the coil and prevent it from bypassing the coil. When the coil was installed, a lot of the insulation in the cool box was ripped off and fell to the floor beneath the blower. My wife, who was watching, offered her vacuum cleaner. I don't believe that the technician would have cleaned a thing if it hadn't been pointed out or the vacuum offered. Because of the events that I will mention below, we had a very bad feeling about the way the work was done (in addition to the air conditioner not cooling), so we called another company to check up on their work. What this company found was shocking. The technician knew that the system was not working properly as soon as he checked the outside unit. There was a valve that should have been sweating but wasn't; he said that indicated something wasn't working. In addition, the outside filter-drier (a small cylinder or ball on the outside Puron line that contains a dessicant and draws moisture and impurities from the system) should have been replaced during the installation of a new evaporator coil--that's just good HVAC practice to prevent gunk from getting into the system--but it wasn't. The technician did a superheat of the system and found that the value was 42, which indicates that the TXV valve is not opening to let freon into the system. In addition, the change in air temperature was only 11 degrees, when it should have been about 20 degrees. What's surprising is that the Fire and Ice technician left NO record of any start-up checks. The new technician told us that these checks should have been done, and that ANYONE who saw these numbers would have known immediately that the TXV was bad. Before opening the door to the coil, the technician invited us down to the basement so that we could see what he saw at the same time he did. There was frost on our coil, and sure enough, the plates that were left were simply not put into the coil box. One was a bit of a tight fit, so it may have been left aside on purpose. A bracket on which the coil was supposed to sit had fallen down next to the blower; the new technician said he would bring a magnetic pole to try to retrieve it, because it could eventually cause rattling. Most likely, the Fire and Ice technician burned out the sensing bulb to the TXV valve when she soldered the line to it. The new technician said that it had to be protected with wet rags, or the Puron could be boiled out of it and it would be ruined. I asked my wife, who watched the installation, and she remembered distinctly that the Fire and Ice technician did not use any rags to protect the bulb. In fact, she was certain, because the Fire and Ice technician used a wet rag to grab parts of the coil after soldering, but did not use them at any other time--and not to protect the bulb. My wife remembered that the Fire and Ice technician put on the cloth that protects the bulb from surrounding air so that it only senses the fluid going through the pipe, but that no other coverings were used. It's possible that the bulb and valve were bad to begin with. However, there's no way the Fire and Ice technician would have known that she had burned out the sensing bulb to the TXV valve or whether it was bad from the factory, because she did not do the necessary checks to make sure that our system was operating. Once she was done, she simply left. She did not do a superheat or subcooling of the system, and she did not check the change in air temperature, which was not off by a little--but off by 50%! It took four hours to get the coil installed--was she getting careless and tired by the end? Did she not perform the necessary start-up checks on purpose because she knew that she might have destroyed the sensing bulb? In any case, there was no way for the next technician to know the baseline of our system from a week ago (during which time we actually did not use the A/C), because there were no readings to check. But once we had to use the air conditioner today, you could feel that the air was not cool. To add insult to injury, the Fire and Ice technician had to bend some of the metal around the box to fit the coil in, and instead of bending it back and screwing it into place, she put tape all around our evaporator coil box. It looked like a Christmas present wrapped by a small child. Overall, it was a horrible experience, and my wife still has nightmares about it. We fully intend to dispute the charge ($589) for this disaster of an "installation," but we expect that Fire and Ice will be professional enough to refund our money before it comes to that. We're out $126 for a Puron recharge, and $225 for a leak check. We refuse to pay for an installation that was sloppy, unprofessional, and left us with a nonfunctioning air conditioner that now has to be fixed by another company. If it was just the TVX valve issue, we would give Fire and Ice another chance. But this involved: - the lack of start-up checks to ensure that the system was functioning properly before simply writing "operating and cooling" on an invoice (that is, no superheat pressure and no change in system air temperature--why not?!?) - the sloppy installation from start to finish - neglecting to replace the outside filter - leaving aside the plates to redirect bypass air - knocking a coil support plate to the floor next to the blower and not telling us or trying to fix it - ripping insulation, leaving fiberglass in our system, and not even attempting to clean it until my wife suggested that the Fire and Ice technician use our vacuum cleaner - not even taping the insulation until my wife suggested that the technician might want to tape the peeling, falling insulation that she had just ripped off by jamming the coil into place
