Have used them before so very surprised with this service. Two techs showed up because one was transitioning from installation to repair. What usually takes 30 minutes ended up taking 2 1/2 hours. They identified a supposed potential problem with our return but left without resolving the issue. The entire appointment was not handled well and I will not be using this company again.

I rate this as "B" across the board because although in the end it worked out quite well, the road there was rather bumpy. The first tech who came out gets credit for discovering the need to fix the A/C unit. Therefore, he only did the furnace tuneup. As I watched, be seemed not to do the job as thoroughly as I've seen with other Fire & Ice techs in the past. I paid for the service on the spot, and he assured me that I would receive an email estimate for the A/C repair in the next couple days. I did not receive the estimate so a week later I called the office. A supervisor assured me it would be sent the next day. Several days later I called again. Even then it was a couple of additional days to receive the estimate. It became clear that they were leaving the estimating task with the same tech so he would "learn" to be more responsive. I agreed to have Fire & Ice make the repair per the estimate received with the caveat that I wanted a different tech as I had lost confidence in this one. We easily scheduled the repair and Nick, a supervisor arrived as expected. He was very professional and competent, and performed the work excellently. Had this set of services all been done by Nick, I would have easily given an "A" rating across the board. However, since the excellent work came on the heels of a recovery after the bad initial experience, I downgraded the ratings to "B".
Description of Work: First I needed an annual furnace and A/C tuneup. That service uncovered the need to level the external A/C unit which required disconnecting it, making a sound foundation pad, and reconnecting it.

I contacted fire and ice to get an estimate on the furnace work I needed done on my home. Fire and ice came highly reccomended through fellow employees so I figured I would them a shot. Now to fill you in with the whole story, we refer a large portion of business to them because they are extremely reputable (look at the reviews) I read their reviews and felt comfortable with the decision I made to choose them for an estimate. Their reviews and the estimator showing up on time were the only things they have good (in my eyes as of right now) going for them. Now for the bad. First thing that went wrong. Upon calling their office, I had to repeat my name to the CSR three times so she could understand my name. After those three times, she still managed to get it wrong. Being in a related field, I understand that a CSR can misunderstand a name every now and again but, when that CSR asks how you spell it and still messes it up, that's a problem. I looked past that just figuring she was having a bad day ( I now receive follow up letters in the mail with my name still wrong on the envelopes) and proceeded to continue with making the appointment. As I stated before, the estimator showed up on time and on the correct date to my home. He came in and was extremely respectful. He wore his boot covers and showed the utmost professionalism and started writing down details about my house (Windows, bedrooms, returns etc etc) He complained about crawling down into my crawl space (don't get me wrong, I hate getting in crawl spaces as a first job because you do get dust and dirt on you and they are not the most fun places to be in) and complained about the dust. We laughed it off because I walk a mile in his shoes everyday. The estimator then looks to me and starts his whole presentation on what he thinks my house needs. The system I had had previously done was done so badly that I was expecting the unit and some of its duct work would need to be tidied up/redone. He then continues to show me furnaces and air conditioning units but doesn't give me any prices. The only price he shared with me in my dining room was that a humidifier costs $395.00. Me being on a well system, I did not find that to be a wise investment due to the iron content in our water. He then tells me to give him two days and he will build a price together once he speaks with his manager ( he was going to speak with his manager about possibly saving my outdoor unit which had just been purchased under a year ago, something they normally don't do but wanted to help out on the cost considering I had just spent all this money on this system). I Appreciated him going the extra mile (or so I thought). I waited patiently for two days and did not receive a phone call. When you are a service provider and you tell a client you are going to call them by a certain date or time, you follow through on your word. I took it upon myself to reach out to them. I called the office and yet again, the girl messed up my name and she said that she would have him contact me that he is a little busy at the moment. He called me back 40 minutes later. The conversation was cut short because he had still not gotten me a complete written estimate put together but a ballpark. A ballpark of $9500-&10,000. He priced out the furnace and apparently the outdoor unit (must've forgot to talk to his manager) around $4500 and he said the remainder of the funds were in the duct work. I fought back immediately because in my contracting mind, there is now way in the world my entire 1200 sq ft ranch can hold over $5,000 in duct work. He then proceeds to tell me that they have to have their duct work at specific prices. I then told him the price is completely out of line and to send me the typed up estimate so I can read through it (maybe I was missing something). I am still sitting here as I type this review waiting on the typed up estimate. Now don't get me wrong, I understand that value comes with a price ( I had gotten burned by a company saying they could put in my previous Unit at a cheaper cost and I also thought I had trust in someone that works for that company) needless to say, fire and ice's price way overshot the value of the service they were trying to sell. By fire and ice not even taking the time to type up an estimate for me, I guess my business/ money wouldn't have mattered to them. I contacted two other companies that were $3,000-$4500.00 cheaper then Fire and ice. These other companies both come with A reviews on angies list and are sure service award winners (consecutively). Fire and ice, you let me down, your price was completely out of line and I personally will not recommend / refer you to anyone in or outside of work.

I live in another state and needed an diagnostic of an inoperative blower motor. This house is owned by my elderly parents of whom one was in the hospital, so I was trying to work this all long distance via phone to get their AC working again. I called Fire & Ice because they had good reviews. Upon arrival the tech spent no more than 10 minutes, did not test or attempt to isolate problem. He called me an said I the repair would be $786, not including the $89 diagnostic fee. I told him I could find the exact replacement blower online for $175. He stated this was a very tough job and that the blower motor was obsolete. He argued with me and said blower motors are very difficult to get out and require a lot of labor, I knew better since my father had already removed the blower motor. He recommended a whole new HVAC unit be installed at the price of $5000+. Needless to say I refused the service and told him I would find an honest company to work with. Stay away from Fire & Ice!!! I called another local company (D&L) and they laughed when I told them the story, said it happens all the time with Fire & Ice and were not surprised. They replaced the blower motor/capacitor and serviced the inside and outside unit two days later for a total of $412. They stated the blower motor was a very standard and easy to get part and the labor was only 1.5 hours. Again, shop around...don't fall for the high pressure scams of Fire & Ice.

Our comfort consultant, Josh Rodriguez, was excellent. He listened to what our problem was and offered several options. We were originally looking at possibly adding a secondary unit with new ducts and vents upstairs to cool down our second floor. After looking over our system, he noticed that we were not fully utilizing our variable speed unit by having the fan on constantly to circulate the air around the house. This has helped tremendously and now both floors of our house are at a comfortable level. Josh was very friendly and knowledgeable and gave us various options after hearing out what our needs were.

Fire & Ice was excellent from start to finish. They were not the cheapest option (based on getting quotes from others), but they were the most professional and thorough of the bunch, and it truly was a case of "you get what you pay for". Very happy with the new Trane unit and their service - they are very attentive to your needs.

Excellent, one of the best companies I have ever worked with, very professional and thorough. This was a very old unit that needed to be replaced. I sought out 4 different companies to get an estimate on what it would cost to replace the unit. By far, Fire & Ice stood out over the others. Josh Rodriquez did an excellent job explaining what needed to be done after thoroughly inspecting my entire system. They were not the cheapest, but they were very competitive, and I felt l would get more out of this company then the others, in terms of customer service, products, service, and value, and I could not be more happy with the results - they did a very professional job and everything looks great! I included this company in my search based on the great reviews on Angie's List, and they really live up to the high rating. They are very customer focused and I feel very confident using them for all my future needs. Everything went like clockwork, so it is always good to work with a company that does exactly what they say they are going to do.

A few days after they came out, I began having issues with my AC. It seemed to be working fine prior to their visit, which aroused some serious suspicions for me. Nevertheless, I had to pay them a few days later to come out and make a totally unexpected repair. Luckily, they discounted the service somewhat because I was very upset. It may have just been a coincidence, but like I said, it seemed fine before they came. Regardless, it was enough to make me never want to use them again.

The quote was outrageously expensive.
Description of Work: They came out for a quote on an AC unit and furnace in my attic. We have a main unit but it does not cool the upstairs very well. After talking about it, the salesman said it would be no less than $13-15k! I told him I had another quote for less than half that, and he said he wouldn't even go look in my attic for less than $8k. Needless to say, Fire and Ice is not a well priced service company. Shop around if you want the best price. Not to mention, how does someone give you a quote without even looking in the attic? I guarantee I received a mark up on cost because of the neighborhood I live in and the size of my house.

The technician arrived exactly on time. I was his first appointment of the day. Five minutes into his service call he is trying to sell me a service program. I declined and wondered if his prime concern was my equipment of possible commissions. He performed the system check in a complete and thorough manner. When I had arranged for the service call, I discussed a need for a new bulb for the ultraviolet bulb in my biological purifier. I was told to talk to the tech when he was at my house. The tech said he could get a new bulb and it would be about $80.00 (and, my words"another service call fee"). He left after agreeing to see if he could find a new bulb. Several hours later, he called and said he could not find a the bulb that I needed, but the company had an old system on the shelf and the could sell it to me for $99. I told him I would think about it. Then I went to Habegger's on Silver St, where I was told the had the bulbs, but could only sell to a licensed contractor. Anybody else think there is something rotten in Denmark? So, I will not use this company again, and am in need of an ethical contractor.

We engaged with these folks for what should have been a simple humidifier install for a previously installation. It took 4 total trips out and multiple contacts to finally get this in and working. After some hesitation (and a dead AC unit!) we decided to give them another chance to replace the AC unit. I was assured that the install would go without a hitch (based on previously experience) and that this would take a 1/2 day of work. The guys showed up on time for the install and were very nice. They diligently worked to put the unit in, except that instead of a 1/2 day, it was almost 5pm before they finally left. My wife was at home with the kids and could not leave when she needed to. In addition, the proper tools like a shovel (for leveling AC base) or a shop vac (for cleaning up the mess) was available for them. They actually used our brooms and shop vac to clean up the mess. Even at that, there were pieces of metal, screws and even a broken AC line strap when they left. There were some small issues that I emailed about to have serviced, which recieved no response, at all. Everything seemed up to par and the unit was running. Two days later, I noticed that the target temp was not being reached. I go to the basement to see that the line is frozen and dripping through my furnace. I promptly emailed the sales guy who was not super helpful. It was only when I escalated to the service manager (we had a relationship from the humidifier) that someone was scheduled to come out first thing the next day. Turns out this was the same guy who had to come out for the humidifier - sheesh. Just yesterday, unannounced, the sales guy shows up to do his "post install QC inspection", which was not a convenient time for my wife. And now come to find out, we also need to schedule an inspection with our local inspector - this was never mentioned once. I also had to follow up to see if the unit was registered with Trane. Why wouldn't all these items be disclosed and clearly communicated? And to boot, I was contacted today by someone in the office who was FINALLY responding from my initial email about issues on the install - which was WEEKS ago. This seems like a really unorganized group of folks. All in all, the unit is in and working now - but we'll likely just find another Trane dealer to do the furnace and/or service in the future.

It was scheduled at 8am today and nobody showed up. I called and the manager said it is scheduled between 9-12. Apparently they made a mistake with my schedule and told me to reschedule instead of trying to send a technician in the morning. Totally not reliable. I did not give them a bad review on a furnace tune up last winter. Now it is time to remind people here to know how non-reliable their service is. They sent a newly trained technician doing a furnace tune up, then the next day it was very cold at night, and the air was cold. I called them and a supervisor came, figured out the gas valve was not turned on after the service. What a mistake from their trained technician. I don't recommend this company to any homeowners.
