The work turned out great. Rodney came out to give me an estimate and went through the various options with me. The crew (Kelly, Stan, and Travis) showed up on time, they were very polite and pleasant, and they always covered their shoes with protective booties and laid down drop cloths wherever they were working. The crew re-worked my existing damaged ductwork in a way that gives me significantly more floor space in my basement, which is nice because I use it as a workshop and floor space is at a premium. The workmanship is neat and tidy - very professional looking. The inspector doing the final sign off even commented that the work looked really good. The ceiling in the basement is low, so they took special care to run the new PVC supply and exhaust high up between the floor joists so that I don't hit my head on them when I'm working down there. They cleaned up and the area around my furnace looked as good (probably better) than it did before. The only problem we had was with the duct cleaning machine, which ended up being unavailable on the day they were to do the cleaning. Rodney explained the situation as soon as he knew about it and rescheduled around my wife's and my availability as soon as possible. Kelly came back and did a thorough job and the dust in the house is much less noticable. Also, the new thermostat was smaller than the old one and left a nasty looking bit of wall behind it. I talked to Rodney about it and he tracked down a larger cover plate to go behind it and came out within a couple of days to fix the problem. I didn't have to pester him or call back a bunch of times like you often hear about with little touch-up things. One call and it was taken care of and it looks great. I can't recommend Fire & Ice, Rodney and his crew enough. They did a great job and delivered a great value for the price. Any questions or concerns I had along the way were addressed promptly and they delivered on everything they promised.
Description of Work: The crew replaced my old furnace, reworked damaged ductwork, installed a new thermostat and performed a full house duct cleaning. Fire and Ice was also responsible for obtaining the proper permits and scheduling the final inspection.

Rodney the GM came out to the house and did an estimate. From the start I appreciated his style. As a new homeowner he helped educate me on the units pro/cons and things to think about. He quoted me on three Trane units. However, where Fire & Ice (and Rodney) really won our business was when I got a quote from another company (the other quoted me on three Carrier units). The other company mentioned a humidity control feature that really sparked my interest but I could never really understand what it was, how it worked, and how all the different units (and associated prices) applied to the humidity feature. After many hours of internet research, and several e-mails to the other company I reached out to Fire & Ice. Rodney looked into it and even called his Carrier rep and had them research options. Turns out the Carrier A/C humidity control features wouldn't work (at the level I thought they were supposed to) with my Carrier furnace model. Rodney was very professional, I could tell he wasn't just interested in making a sell, but in ensuring I understood my options and limitations and that I got what I was looking for. We went with Fire & Ice and a Trane unit. Scheduling was a breeze, install technicians were great---quick, easy, neat and early. Rodney stopped by to check in during the install.
Description of Work: They installed a new A/C unit, coil, coolant lines.

They were fabulous. When I called them initially, it was after 4.00 pm. They were willing to come out, without charging me overtime. I had called another company prior to this and they were going to charge me overtime for coming out. Later, when my furnace started working, I called them back. They told me that it was better if they came out when the furnace wasn?t working, so they could find out what the problem was. I told them that they could come out the next day, if it stopped working again. It didn?t break down, but they were able to figure out the problem. The furnace was old, but I still kept it running. Other companies had told me that I needed a new furnace. Last year, we had to buy two parts. Initially, we bought the cheapest part, which was about $198. It worked for a few weeks. When they came back the second time, they didn?t charge me for a service call. They only charged me for the parts. They understood that there were constraints on the budget and worked accordingly. I think they are great. They were very reasonable. The guy that came out was named Rob. He was really sensitive and really nice. He tried to save me money. He told me that by spending $600, the furnace would work for another 3-4 years. Initially, he came out almost two months ago. Later, when the parts didn?t work, he came out a few days before Christmas. He was punctual. When I need the new furnace and air conditioning unit, I?ll definitely use him.

They promised and delivered on their promise for a new air conditioner and furnace. All of the people that came to sell their service did a nice job of teaching and explaining what was needed, but we really liked this guy. He was low key, non pressure and informative. They arranged the work quickly and did the work quickly. Everybody was friendly and they left the house neat and clean. I felt very comfortable with them and would use them again. I would recommend them.
Description of Work: They provided me with a new air conditioner. After checking the furnace, they explained that this would be a good time to get a new furnace in conjunction with the air conditioner.

This company provided a detailed quote, and I was able to negotiate the price based upon other quotes. They had two men working on the A/C, two working on the furnace, and one doing the duct cleaning. They were VERY professional and thorough in everything that was done. The vent pipe was an additional piece of work which became difficult due to problems in my chimney. They returned several days later to complete this work and were successful in completing this work properly and quickly. Despite problems with my chimney that were unknown to them, they charged me exactly the price I had negotiated with them. My overall experience was fantastic! I would be a reference for this company at any time.
Description of Work: We had a new Trane high efficiency furnace and air conditioning unit installed and all air ducts cleaned. We also had a vent pipe installed thru the chimney to properly vent our gas water heater.

We had 5 companies give us a bid during the summer. All were in the same relative price range, but Fire & Ice seemed to be straight forward, and very kind. Others made the process seem complex. Fire & Ice came out with their crew and started working right off the start. They worked constantly from start to finish. They didn't have to stop and ask questions. They all new their roles and responsibilities, and went at it like a well oiled machine. They also helped my sister fix her furnace. She thought she needed some additional work done, but they told her it wasn't necessary. Just a good, honest, hard working group of individuals. As for the furnace and CleanEffects, best choice we made.

After the gas company 'red-tagged' my 30-year-old furnace on a routine visit, I contracted to have the furnace and A/C replaced by Fire & Ice, mostly because I got a good 'vibe' from the owner. I had to wait about 10 days for service, which is probably to be expected in late October. The work crew showed up a little bit late on the scheduled day, but still completed the entire job the same day despite being shorthanded. They did a quality job as far as I can tell, and took the time to explain the new system operation. I only dinged them on 'professionalism' because of two things: they literally left every light in the house on, and they left the backyard gate open. Some kindly neighbors rescued my wandering dog. Apart from those two points, I have no complaints about the job and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this company.

Scott came out promptly on three different occasions when our furnace failed to come on. He was so prompt, so professional, and in the end when he wasn't able to diagnose what was going on, he referred us to another company who was able to. We were SOOO grateful that he didn't charge us for his attempts and we plan on calling him first when we need to replace our furnace/ac. Thanks so much to Fire and Ice for their help in getting to the bottom of our oddly functioning furnace.

We had a horrible experience working with them. They installed the system badly. There was a leak in the basement and the carpeting was ruined. They left even though they knew that there was a leak. It took several weeks to have them pay for the replacement of the carpeting and deal with it. We switched to another company for the remainder of the warranty, because we just did not want to deal with them anymore. The new company recently came out and found some things that did not meet code. They also discovered that Fire & Ice did not submit the forms to the city for certain permits. We purchased the top of the line, energy efficient system with the air filtration system. We went all out on the system itself. We were very happy with Fire & Ice on the front end and with the estimate, but it went downhill with the installation. The installation was bad as was all of the follow up. They did eventually accept responsibility for the flooding and replace the carpeting, but only after we made a big deal of it and even went up to the furnace manufacturer state representative. When they installed the system it was leaking. When I asked the installer about it he said the worst thing it would do was to get the carpet wet. We had to change out pans to catch the water all right. I called the following day about it, because none of the representatives were responding to us. The owner came out and replaced the pump which was leaking but it had already ruined the carpeting. Instead of replacing the pump when I originally asked they waited until the following day. The owner did apologize and replace the carpeting finally, but he wanted to have a carpeting guy come out and tell him that it needed to be replaced. By the time to carpet guy came out it was a week later and there was mold under the carpeting. My husband was extremely angry with them. We originally went with them because they had very good ratings on Angie?s List, they are a local company, the sales guy who wrote up the estimate seemed really together and he wrote up a really fair estimate. It was based on Angie?s List ratings that we even included them in the three companies that we got estimates from, but those ratings do not reflect our experience. The price was not the cheapest, but it was a fair price. They were slow to respond at first, but it got better.

Response from Fire & Ice Heating & Air Conditioning, Inc
The pump that leaked water that originally started the problem could not be replaced at 7 pm in the evening. Due to that fact, we apologized to the homeowner and instructed them on what they would have to do to get through the night and still have heat. The homeowner did not do what they agreed to and the water leaked in to the carpet. Regardless of that fact. Fire & Ice did not fight or hesitate to replace the carpeting. Which cost us $1400. This homeowner wanted to replace all the carpeting in all the rooms in there basement because a 1' square spot got wet. This is a classic case of a someone trying to get something for nothing. The decision to have another company cover the extended warranty was made by me due to the fact that this particular homeowner can not be pleased. We gave them everything they wanted and then some. We sent technicians out there instantly whenever there was a problem, we sent them a $50 gift card for the inconvenience that they caused by not doing what they agreed to, then we paid $1400 to replace carpet that did not need to be replaced. Every job has the potential to have problems, how a company handles those problems determines whether they are a good company or not. All we could do is what we did, which is respond instantly and decisively. We cannot make someone happy that has ulterior motives other than to be happy. Scott Merritt - Owner

They were punctual. I bought an extended service plan that was supposed to include two check ups. When the man came out he told me that he did it all in one. I was not happy about that. I thought that the price was too high, because I was under the impression that I was going to get to two check ups and I only got one. I felt that I was lied too. I would not use this company again in the future.

It is not company policy for us to do the spring and fall tune-up at the same time unless otherwise instructed by the homeowner to do so. The technician on this job had two prior appointments that morning in the same condo complex to do both tune-ups at the same time. Even though he should not have, he probably assumed that he was supposed to do all three the same way. This happened a year and a half ago. I have contacted the homeowner and offered her another yearly maintenance agreement at no charge and she has agreed. I am not sure why she did not contact us a year and a half ago when this occurred and she was unhappy, I would have been more than happy to correct the minor issue at that time. Whenever a company does not give you the service you expect, please contact them and let them know before just writing a bad report. This problem is resolved, I just wished we could have had the opportunity to resolve it a year and half ago when it occurred.

We had a good experience with them. It would have been very costly for us to repair if they hadn?t found the loose wire. When I called them, they scheduled an appointment right away. He was running late that day, but they did call to make sure it would be okay if he came a little later. It was fine. Their price is comparable to everybody else.

The whole experience was fantastic! Scott cut me a really good deal. He included a new humidifier in the deal as well as air duct cleaning which was badly needed. He came out to see me on a Saturday morning and his workmen came to install the two units theh following Thursday. They were punctual, helpful, and friendly. They answered all my questions. They even cleaned the overhead fan in my family room. When they left around 5 p.m. they cleaned everything up and left the proper paperwork for inspection. The next day the co-owner of the company Rob, came by to make sure I was satisfied and if I needed any further assistance with the equipment. Really wonderful company. Exceptional work for the price!

We could not have had a better company fix this for us!!!! Rod came out on 06/12 to give a free estimate on repairing vs replacing. Although it was suggested numerous times to replace, that simply wasn't within our scope. During the estimate, Rod even fixed the broken 24 volt wire that another company ripped out. We called them back to do the repair on Friday, 06/19, and Daniel came back to pick up the motor to match parts as any identifiable markings weren't on the part or unit. He did leave us with a window A/C unit for our girls' room for the night, complimentary. Daniel came back out the next morning, a Saturday, and replaced the fan blades, motor, and motor bracket (bracket wasn't included in initial estimate so they didn't charge us for that). I was charged almost $100 less than the high end of the quote but still higher than the low end verbally communicated to me by Rod. After a few hours, I noticed the line was frozen again, so the initial issue was not resolved. Rod came back out that Saturday evening and said there was a leak in the line, but gave us 2 lbs of refrigerant for no charge. He even cleaned out the coil. The next morning, I noticed hot air blowing, not cold. I checked the thermostat, then the unit and found the fan blades had fallen off and the motor had been running without the blades for an unknown amount of time. I turned off the unit and called Fire and Ice. Scott, the owner answered and sent Daniel back out with longer screws the place the blade back on. Everything is all and well now. While it was a bit rough, we experienced tremendously fantastic customer service and a willingness to do all they can for the customer, which isn't matched often today. Their prices were higher than others, but their service totally made up for that! Keep up the excellent work!!!!!

I used an Angie's List coupon for the inspection and saved $20 on the service call. While Rod was checking our system, freon leaked out and he was kind enough to add freon at no charge because of this. Rod answered all my questions including questions about a new heating & cooling system and when was the best time to replace it. I would definitely recommend Fire & Ice to people in the future.

I had four different companies give me estimates to do this work. Fire and Ice was the lowest cost but that isn't why we went with them. I chose them because of their small business status with a big business experience. My wife chose them because of their great financing options. The furnace they replaced was 38 years old and they had to fabricate some ductwork to get it to look just right. Also, the new PVC pipes for exhaust and intake were run all the way across our basement in a way that it doesn't interfere with our use of the area its in. They did a great job and it looks really good. I have a two year old and four year old who were in the house when they did it and they were very good with the kids. They let them watch and were careful to not leave sharp things laying around.

The project from start to finish was handled in an excellent manner. Scott, the owner, did the estimate and responded to questions prior to our accepting his bid. His bid came in lower than 2 others I sought. The work was scheduled very quickly and done in just one day. The workers were professional and did quality work. Rod was especially effective in communicating with us during and after the installation. Projects of this scale are complicated and unforseen things can come up, and a few did, but their handling of them was beyond our expectations.

Tom and Dan arrived promptly @ 8:00 am and were ready to go. One tech started on the inside work in the basement while the other set up his equipment to clean all of the vents in the house. Despite the "obstacle course" I had going on in the basement, the tech (I believe his name was Tom) managed a way to work around it (that was a feat within itself!!). After I located the key to the side door - it was easier for them to work this way as they both needed "better" access going in & out for tools, parts, etc - there was nonstop action with setting the equipment inside & out, running lines, and testing for leaks when everything was set up. Tom & Dan had to work "around" alot of "stuff" in the basement - from the HUGE pipes coming out of the furnace being in the way (ceiling wise), to my clutter everywhere on the floor (I didn't get it all up before they arrived, oops) they never complained. Tom worked through his lunch and everything was connected and tested around 5:00 pm. They both were VERY professional and when Dan & Tom were finished, their boss came out and inspected the work!!! I was VERY impressed!!! I can't recall his name right now, but he even asked me if I was satisfied with the work that was done and if I had any questions!!! During the installion, everything was explained to me by the technicians as they worked. I also purchased the maintenance plan as I trust the work and knowledge that this company has to offer, so I will definitely use this company again. I LOVE my central air - I got SOO tired of my window air conditioners(3). Scott, the owner, came out to give me the original estimate and he hit the nail on the head with which size and model I needed to efficiently cool the size of my house, I REALLY appreciate that.

I lost my power during the hurricane last year after the transformer on the pole behind my house exploded. (It was pretty cool to watch). After power was restored, I had no air conditinioning. I tried to find the switch or whatever that tripped without any luck. These guys troubleshot and found that the compressor had blown with the power surge. I also bought a new programmable thermostat to try to save energy and money. When I tried to install it, the wiring scheme did not match any of the research I had. The techs had trouble figuring this one out, too. It seems that the previous owner did a lot of "rigging" to keep this old system working. They installed the thermostat, but did not repair the AC. My system is over 30 years old. There were signs of past failures and "bypass" type repairs. What they did do was explain what new systems would work in my house, by fit, efficiency, and price. I like these people. I need to do a little more homework before I buy, but I am pleased so far.

From the estimate to the installation everything was done in a professional manner with no problems. The team of three who arrived on the hour promised immediately went to work. The team had a positive work ethic and answered all the questions we had. We were impressed with the way they worked with each other and kept a positive attitude. At the completion of the installation the area was left in a clean manner. Very impressed with their knowledge of the product they were installing.

My old furnace crapped out on Tuesday so Fire and Ice came to do the repair on Wednesday. It needed a new motor (among other things) and I thought it was too much money to spend on an 18 year old furnace, so I decided to buy a new one. Fire and Ice was booked solid until Monday so they used some spit and elbow grease to get the old one working again. I was charged for this repair but promised that the charge would be deducted from the cost of the new furnace. Which worked fine until Wednesday night, when it stopped again. I called Scott, the owner, at about 9 pm Wednesday night and expressed my concern that we had no heat (it was very cold at the time) and had to wait until Monday for the replacement--I'm sure I wasn't nice. I was frustrated and angry that I had paid for the repair. Scott was very patient and understanding as he listened to me and he reminded me that the cost of the repair would be deducted from the cost of the new install. He explained with regret that he could not change the schedule but offered to be at my home at 6 am Thursday to get it working. He showed up right on time and fixed it. I was very impressed with Scott. He was kind, professional and accommodating from the start. In fact, every person that I dealt with at Fire and Ice was. I would use them again without hesitation, in fact, when the time comes to replace the air conditioner--they'll be the folks I'll call. Many thanks to Scott and his people, I had an excellent experience.
