HUD did address the key problem that I filed and THEN the building owner contacted me by mail. She didn't have much interest in my loss from the theft until HUD got involved. I didn't appreciate that delay and felt I wasn't being taken seriously. This is not an isolated situation and I still don't have a resolution. I want to be compensated for my loss. I want them to take responsibility to secure the rights I have to privacy and security in my home.
Description of Work: I live in a senior building. The locks were never changed on my apartment when I moved in. I recently had a theft in my apartment. The property manager advised that I file a police report, which I did. I also called the owner of the building and advised that I'd had a theft. I left the information in a voice mail and also advised to her that I'd contacted the police. She never called me back and after 30 days of waiting. At that point I contacted The Columbus Metropolitan Housing Authority and HUD with my complaint. They each provide procedure and policy information in our lease and I submitted a complaint. They questioned me as to who else had keys. I never gave keys to anyone and my lease even prohibits that. The only other keys available to my apartment is carried by maintenance men. They have access to my apartment and come and go without my permission. My complaint to HUD addressed that concern.
