On the date and time requested no service person showed up. I gave an hour's grace period and finally called the 866 618 1259 phone number to see what time I could anticipate my installer's arrival. I was informed high speed internet service was not available in my area. I shared just 3 days prior I went through the exercise process of establishing that it could and also went through the exercise with the installer and set a convenient time for him to do so. I never got a call or email or text informing he would not be showing up or that after further review of our location that they would not be able to provide service. I had gone out and purchased the ROUTER that the installer informed me I would need in order to not have to experience the rental fee of the ROUTER they would be providing. I called and was informed no installation was going to take place. I shared with them they have provided me a dis-service and mis-represented themselves in the process and could not even do the decency of calling me to inform of same. While I was very gracious in my disgust with their operation, they offered no explanation other than only telephone and television was the only service they could provide at my address. I will never use Earthlink again, even IF they could provide high speed internet service at our location, regardless of assurances which have clearly demonstrated that assurances for these folks means NOTHING.
Description of Work: The provider made a commitment to provide high speed cable service, provided a confirmation of service to be provided in my area and also transferred me to the installer who confirmed a date and time of installation and the "router" necessary to accommodate the hook up. The price was agreed upon, time of installation and details all confirmed.

I have used Earthlink for five years from homes in three different cities. I have rarely had problems, only rarely having a dropped connection. I had problems with one modem, but never had a problem after I replaced it. I found spam filtering very easy to use and fairly effective. I set up a daily summary of messages from senders not on my whitelist, and I scan through the list to be sure I don't miss a message that I want to receive. On the few occasions when I had to call them, I didn't have any problems. Unfortunately Earthlink doesn't offer broadband service in my area, so I had to cancel my account when I finally decided to upgrade. The price is high for dial up access, but the quality is excellent.

I called other companies to see how much they charged. I spoke to my phone company and they saw that I had just been signed up for DSL. The person I spoke to with Earthlink processed an order for DSL. I called them back right away to cancel it. They told me if I would not have called right away, I would have been charged a $179 cancellation fee. My complaint is they misused my credit card.
Description of Work: On Dec 13th, I called Earthlink to find out how much they charge for DSL. The person I was speaking to was in another country. He wanted my contact info but all I wanted was the price for it.

Earthlink's Internet service is good, however, recently they changed their spam blocking filters and caused me to lose lots of emails. They blocked them and didn't advise anyone of the change. It was only after I noticed that I had not received regular emails, did I investigate. The correction procedure was so complicated that I went without getting regular emails for several months until a computer consultant could walk me through the fix for it.
Description of Work: While Earthlink's Internet service is reliable, their recent changes to their spam blocking filters have caused me to lose emails that I wanted to receive.

The process was very easy and help is available via live chat, which I like to be able to use any time of day. The price is for 6 months, then goes up to 42 or something like that. It was nice to be able to transfer everything easily and keep my e-mail address.
