Drain Master

Did a sewer inspection and never received the video even after asking for it multiple times.

Drain Master did a top-notch and professional job. They made a bad situation easier by the way they handled everything.

By the time I discovered that the sump pump had died, the pit was nearly full, and water was seeping through the cracks in the basement floor. I called one of the more popular drain companies who sent someone out right away who played games with options and discounts and bottomed out at $675. I sent him on his way and called Drain Master. I was given a quote over the phone of $585, including diverting the discharge as the first company had identified that the line to the curb was blocked and needed replaced (at about $5000-$6000). Drain Master confirmed that they could send someone out within a couple of hours and complete the work same day, as well as provide a free estimate for the replacement of the drainage line to the curb. I received a call prior to their arrival with an estimated arrival time of approximately 30 minutes - it was more like an hour, but no big deal. 2 techs arrived (Russell and Ridge). I would say that they were not as polished as the tech from the first company, but they quickly assessed the situation and got to work. I remembered that I had forgotten to mention that I was an Angie's List member and asked Russell if he was aware of any discounts. He said he wasn't but invited me to call the office to confirm. I did so and was granted a $25 discount. The estimate for excavation and replacement of the drain line came to $2400, but Russell stated that our lilac would need to be removed first. Ridge handled the replacement of the sump pump and check valve, and they both worked on the outside drain diversion. The work was on the "quick and dirty" side, but the pump worked flawlessly, and the seepage in the basement began to dry up almost immediately. Now that the immediate danger is out of the way, we will go ahead and get some additional estimates for the drain line replacement, especially on behalf of the lilac, but Drain Master is certainly in the running. The only negative of the experience is that I was supposed to have received an emailed invoice/estimate the following day, and I did not, so I need to follow up on that, but overall, I have no real complaints.

Counter to both the manufacturer's manual and common sense, they installed the replacement battery-powered backup sump pump without its own check valve. As a result, when the existing primary pump kicked on, it would pump the water up the primary pipe, over the Y-joint, and right back down the secondary pipe back into the well in an infinite loop, and not actually empty the sump well. Furthermore, they didn't test thoroughly, so I only caught the mistake by good fortune, after the primary pump had been running for 24+ hours straight and I noticed a humming sound from the basement. The primary pump was extremely hot and their mistake probably shortened its life, although it does still work. Neither of the pumps is resting on the well floor as they are supposed to be. As for pros concerning Drain Master, they did come back and put in dedicated check valves for each pipe promptly and at no charge, and they were very responsive to my phone calls.

Drainmaster snaked the drain from our house to the street sewer. This also eliminated some unpleasant odors we had been experiencing in the basement.

Returned from being out of town for holidays to find our kitchen sink was clogged and backing up. Russell and Ridge snaked out the kitchen sink, having identified a hard spot in pipe about 5 feet but was able to get through it. Put drain back and cleaned up. Returned my call promptly after 5:00 pm on a Friday and was at the house shortly after.

Great! Charlie, the owner, and his son worked on it for about 2.5 hours with the hydro-jet and they were able to get almost all of the roots out.

Russel and Ridge showed up exactly when they said they would, completed the work faster than they said, and we (finally) had our water back. They quickly identified the problem and knew exactly the correct repair with minimal damage to the internal or external house structure. Minimal damage to our plant beds out front, and good job backfilling the hole without large rocks. I can' give them enough good words. Very professional, informative and quick. Well done guys!
