They did excellent work. It was a little slow but meticulously and beautifully done. They did good work and basically did what they should do. The tile got back ordered which when we looked at the tile, the tile was in stock and then when they went to order it wasn't in stock which was not their fault. It was the supplier's fault so we waited on the tile and then after that came in they did the work and did excellent work.

Bryan and Chris demonstrated professionalism during each stage of the process, and finished up the job on Christmas Eve. They were intricate in all of their installation steps, as if they were installing the backsplash for a Parade of Homes project. They are wonderful people, which made the entire process enjoyable.
Description of Work: Installed a slate backsplash in kitchen, approximately 21 feet by 18 inches. Removed old tile backsplash and repaired several holes in the drywall. Re-configured electrical outlets so that the switchplates would fit properly. Applied oil-based sealant to the slate backsplash.

They came on a Saturday on short notice and immediately told us that we were trying to use the wrong type of grout for this application. They then called Hamilton Parker (supplier) and arranged for them to leave the correct grout outside of their store because the store was about to close. Brian and Chris then drove about 15 miles on a snowy morning and picked it up for us. When they returned, they still only asked for $100 plus the cost of the grout. They finished in a couple of hours (it would have taken my wife and I all day!) and it came out looking great. They also gave us good advice on what type of cleaner and outlet/switchplates we should buy, etc. We paid them extra because they went out of their way for us and because we were so happy with the result. I highly recommend them.
Description of Work: They grouted the kitchen tile backsplash that my wife and I had already installed. We started grouting and didn't like the result, so we decided to hire a professional to make sure it came out well.

They were awesome. I started the job myself and kind of botched it. They were willing to come in on short notice and fix the job that I have already started myself. Most companies were not willing to do that. They did it very fast. It had very fair prices. They were willing to jump in on the job and finish it. The other thing I thought was cool was that it was a husband and wife team. The husband does the business and the wife does the tile work. It was kind of cool. Their quality is very good. I would absolutely use them in the future.

Brian and Chris went above and beyond what was required. I had my entire bathroom remodeled. They questioned what the contractors were saying and gave me good overall advice. They went out of their way to make sure the project got done well and were always available when I had questions. They were also extremely clean and didn't leave a big mess at my house to clean up later. The quality of their work is excellent. I would definitely use them again in the future and recommend them to others.

Chris, the female half of Davey Tile, is the main installer and Brian along with a helper cut the tile. Their suggested layout worked very well for our kitchen floor. Everyday was very productive and our floor was installed in the allotted time. We had a broken and a cracked tile on our fireplace hearth and asked if they had time to repair them. They, not only offered to do the repairs, but completely replaced all the tiles on the fireplace hearth at an extremely good price. We were very pleased with the Davey Tile company and will go back to them whenever we need tile work or repairs.
Description of Work: We received proposals from 5 different tile installers for our kitchen floor which was for installation only. Three of the five came to our home to view and discuss the installation, etc. Brian and Chris, the owners of Davey Tile, came to our home, measured the kitchen and offered advice on grout and tile along with different tile layout options. Their price was very competitive and their schedule met our time constraints.

The Davey's treated our home like their own.. Professional and considerate. The final product is much more than we expected. Everyone who sees the completed work is just amazed at the quality of their work and how beautifully it fits our style.....in a word "stunning". Their advise and expertise made these two potentially messy and complex projects go so much more smoothly than we had envisioned. These foks are a unique company.....they delivered what they promised, and on occassion their arrival to start work for the day of "Honey I'm Home" made us smile more than once. Our open house will definitely include the Davey's....

On first day of work, showed up two hours later than he said he would, which is a problem if you have to take time off of work to be home. Even though I removed the toilet, replaced the water supply line and valve, and removed all of the baseboards, linoleum, luon, subfloor, and staples, when he arrived he was gruff and complained that certain prep work had not been done--namely my failure to remove the cove base under the vanity and a piece of wood flooring at the entrance to the bathroom. However, he never gave me any real instructions in advance about the wood flooring piece. After he arrived, rather than remove the cove base, he simply cut the lip at the bottom (which required that I remove and replace the rest of the cove base on my own at a later date--which required a considerable amount of effort). Brian then spent the next two hours trying to cut a replacement piece of wood flooring to install at the bathroom entrance. Although I admired Brian's attention to detail, he did not bring the right tools with him to perform this job, and instead asked me if I had various tools, such as a table saw, which I did not. Later that day he admitted he was a little frustrated, not because of me, but because of another job he was working on, where the owner was overly demanding. Brian indicated that he left most of his tools at the other job, which was the reason that cutting the wood piece had taken so long. The remainder of day one was spent cutting the cement board that goes underneath the tile. Brian and his assistant both used the master bathroom (the only toilet remaining in the house) a couple of times each on day one, without incident. On day two, Brian and his assistant, who had only been working with Brian for only a week or two, did arrive on time, and commenced to nail down the cement board. However, within a half hour of arriving, Brian disappeared into the master bathroom for about 30 minutes. I soon learned that Brian had backed up the toilet in the master bathroom, causing toilet water to spill over the entire bathroom floor. While that particular toilet had plugged up on a few occasions over the last 12 years, it had never overflowed or spilled out onto the floor. In any event, Brian asked for a mop, towel and plunger, which I gave him. Although Brian's socks were soaked after he finished mopping, he walked through my master bathroom carpet with those same soaked socks. That incident put a damper on the rest of the day, which didn't improve until his wife arrived later in the day to install the tile. She graciously agreed to sanitize the entire master bathroom floor before installing the guest bathroom tile. Later during the tile installation, I asked Brian to cut and install a smail tile piece under the toilet supply line flange, but he refused and instead filled the large one inch hold with grout. With respect to the grout, I took great care selecting grout that matched the color of the tile, so that it would be largely invisible after it dried. And, I repeatedly mentioned to Brian that I wanted the grout color to match the color of the tile, and be as invisible as possible. However, Brian used his own leftover pre-mixed grout. Both during grout installation and after it dried (about two days after install) the grout was much much darker than the tile, and not the color I selected. I asked Brian after he had started grouting if it would lighten up, and he said "no". Instead of stopping, he continued to install the wrong color grout, The tile company where I purchased it had me wait about a week to ten days, to ensure that the grout wouldn't lighten up, before they agreed to pay to have another company come in and paint my grout. The painted grout was a significant improvement, and was done at the tile company's own expense.

This is our second experience with Davy. The first experience - a kitchen backsplash project - was worthy of an "A" grade. As they left the house for the last time, we told them we were planning to put tile in our bathroom. They asked us to call them when ready to do the project as they would like to do it for us. When the time came for the project we called and left a message, requesting they call us to schedule an appointment to see the project, but we did not receive a return call. Another phone call and an email to Davey did elicit a response. An appointment was made for them to visit our home and give us an estimate on the project. We made it a point to be home all the day of the day of the appointment. The day came and went without Davey making an appearance or even calling. I called the next day to say we had missed them, asking them to call and reschedule the appointment. They have not returned the call. Very surprised given our first experience with them.

The Daveys came to our home to provide an estimate and also gave us excellent advice about design and purchasing tile. We had wallpaper removed and a ceramic tile backsplash added in our kitchen. Throughout the entire process, phone calls and e-mails were responded to very quickly. Mr. Davey went above and beyond to make sure that we got exactly what we wanted. We are extremely pleased with the experience and the results.

Owner Brian Davey, wife Chris and Nephew Josh came to our home on the initial visit and looked at our kitchen and provided suggestions to update a 1980s look. They work closely with Hamilton Parker (Tile Company) and suggested we visit their store; which we did, and which was also very helpful in selecting a tile and design. Brian and Josh did all of the work in the span of a week. They showed up when they said they would and did far more work than was expected from the initial estimate. Brian even cut the wall to move a phone jack and helped me install our new microwave oven. The new tile and accents look remarkable. When you hire these guys, you end up with quality work that is artful in design. Quite frankly, he doesn't charge enough for what he does. Also: Usually, I am not comfortable leaving contractors alone in the house, but on two occasions, I had to leave the house on appointments and after getting to know these guys, felt comfortable letting them stay and lock up when finished for the day.
Description of Work: Brian and Josh tore out existing backsplash tile in kitchen and placed new tile and accents in place of the backsplash, as well as a nice accent tile in a bay window, and a whole wall of tile and accents on our center island/wine cupboard.

Our particular project took several partial days of work to complete. Several steps involved letting a product dry before moving on to the next step. I was concerned that the project could span a few weeks however Brian and Chris were willing to come on a Saturday and on the day before New Year's Day. They were always courteous and cleaned up after each day. The end results look great. I have waited a month to post this review to make sure that we have not had any problems and we have not had any issues with the new shower pan. I would be happy to have Davey come out and do more work in the future.
Description of Work: We had a leaky shower pan and called several contractors to a**** the problem. Davey was the most responsive, the most thorough in their assessment of the situation, and offered the most reasonable alternatives. However, I was most impressed with Davey's flexibility in working around our schedule at the holidays.

I cannot say enough good things about Davey Tile! They were so great to work with -from start to finish! My husband and I had been planning a bathroom remodel for a couple of years -- and finally took the plunge in March 2012. We are pretty handy - so planned a partial DIY project where we did most of the work - but planned to contract out the installation of new plumbing and the tub-surround tile install. I contacted Davey Tile about 2 weeks before the project -- and was pleased with their responsiveness. They called me back within a few minutes of my online request - and were able to provide me a quote over the phone for tub-surround tile. Over the next couple of weeks, I contacted them several times with questions about the tile I was purchasing - and received friendly, helpful advice EVERY time I called. We ended up having to move our date of install several times -- which was our fault. As probably could have been anticipated, a total overhaul of a 1927 bathroom ran in to quite a few problems - and every time we thought we were almost done - something else came up. Every time, I called Davey Tile with an apologetic request to change the date - and again was met with a friendly, accommodating attitude. They were so flexible and so willing to work with us. Finally (!) - we were ready for the tile to be installed around the tub. They showed up right on time and started the job. Can't say enough good things about them in my home -- 1.) They were NICE. They were there most of the day - and were so friendly and easy to have in my home. I have a young child - and they talked to him and happily tolerated his endless curiosity about their work. 2.) They did BEAUTIFUL work. Beautiful. Flawless. These people clearly know what they are doing. Because of the joys of our 1927 home, there were some hiccups - dealing with weird ceiling lines, etc. They worked around those issues and created such a flawless end-product. They stayed in constant communication about what they were doing - and brought me in to any conversation that required a judgment call (This is my pet peeve from other contractors!). After seeing their flawless work and enjoying our work with them so much, my husband and I changed our plans of installing the floor ourselves. We contacted Davey Tile the very next day and asked if they would be willing to come back and do our floors also. They, knowing we were trying to finish the remodel, fit us in for that very week. They came back and did another flawless job on the floor. Our bathroom remodel is absolutely gorgeous -- and is a breathtaking upgrade in our home. So much of that wow-factor is owed to Davey Tile. They do excellent work and are VERY fairly priced. Really cannot say enough good things about them. If you are looking for tile work --- book them! I wish they did other types of work ---because I have worked with SO many contractors in the Columbus metro area -- and have very few that I am this happy with.

Chris and Brian were very helpful and pleasant. They went above and beyond to re-seal all of our stone backsplash and caulk the edges. I am sorry I could not work on your project. I believe my quote was "We are not taking on any more project at this time". I had to turn down over 30 jobs and every time I did I felt I was letting them down as well as my Family. I did not feel it was important to tell customers that I had been ill and had just been released from the hospital. We still had customers that we were working with and needed to finish their project. Luckily I am on the road to recovery and should be able to take on even more projects in the future

We utilized the services Davey Tile to complete several tiling projects in our home. Chris and Brian of Davey Tile did a superb job. First, they installed a backsplash in our recently remodeled kitchen. Glass tile is typically more difficult to install than ceramic or porcelin. It was necessary to cut several pieces to go around cabinets and a window. The cuts were very clean and precise. No shattering, rough edges, or breakage when Chris and Brian are at work! My husband and I splurged and had new exotic granite counters installed in our kitchen. Brian removed the old tiles on our previous backsplash as well as the wooden window frames before installing the glass tile. He then shared a brilliant idea. He asked if we had any granite scraps remaining from our counter remodeling job. He thought it might look great to have our window framed with granite tiles. Brian then took the time to painstakingly and carefully cut large irregular pieces of our multicolored exotic granite into smaller 2 by 4 inch tiles. He and Chris then installed them around the window while carefully lining up the colors of the multi-colored minerals comprising the granite. Our friends have complemented us on this great look. My husband and I found a one-of-a-kind multicolored hand-blown glass vessel for a guest bathroom. We decided to remodel the room to complement the striking colors of this bowl. We went to Hamilton-Parker on Leonard Avenue in Columbus. They have a phenomenal selection of tiles in all types of composition from all over the world. We selected a SCIS glass tile imported from Italy for our bathroom. I designed a unique look to complement the colors in the glass vessel. I told Brian what my husband and I had selected. He and Chris measured our bathroom and then went to Hamilton-Parker to place the order. I got a call from Chris and Brian asking if my husband and I could meet them at Hamilton-Parker. They had met with the designer and had concerns about my selection. They felt some of the choices might ?compete? with the vessel. We spent several hours discussing and laying out different options. We decided on choices that looked infinitely better than our original selections. Most installers would not care that much about the final ?look.? Chris and Brian were correct in their assessment of the situation and spent their valuable making certain the final look would be perfect. The tile installation on the bathroom walls was a monumental undertaking. Small tiles come in sheets that are usually simply just glued on the walls. Brian and I felt an abstract wall design would be really unique and striking. Chris painstakingly had to install thousands upon thousands of little glass oval tiles onto the wall one by one. They were placed according to pencil sketches drawn on the walls. Before she could place the tiles she and Brian had to soak each sheet of tiles in water for several hours to remove the backing. Then the tiles had to be washed. Then they had to be dried before Chris could glue them on the four walls one-by one. The completed look is awesome and absolutely striking. This custom appearance is what one would expect to find in a high-end designer magazine. I felt very guilty for monopolizing so much of Chris and Brian Davey?s time to complete our tile projects. I suggested they hire more workers and train them according to their high requisite standards. Brian felt that the quality of the work they like to provide their customers might be compromised if they hired and had to supervise a new employee. I appreciated that Chris or Brian would call in advance to let me know when they were not able to come at an appointed time. They never left any job which required just a little more time to complete. I understand how one can?t stop in the middle of an installation project. It showed they wanted to provide ALL their clients with outstanding work. They do not juggle projects in order to get as many jobs as possible. They feel it is important to provide excellent customer service and satisfaction. If you are considering a very large or small tile project for your home I suggest you contact Davey Tile for a free estimate. They provide the quality that used to be standard in past years in family-owned small businesses. When you meet them you will be impressed with their unassuming nature. Rest assured they will provide you with a great high-quality and reasonably-priced tile installation. We no longer bother with estimates from other companies when planning tile projects. We simply just call Davey Tile. If you also wish to hire a company that genuinely cares about providing quality tile installation(s) and/or service, I highly recommend you consider Chris and Brian Davey. You won?t be disappointed.
Description of Work: Brian and Chris of Davey Tile recently completed several projects for my my husband and myself: 1- A glass-tile kitchen backsplash set in a vertical design2- Framed a window in granite tiles matching an exotic granite kitchen counter3- Mosaic glass tile bathroom set in a unique abstract designer pattern

They were very professional, courteous and fast. The new work cosmetically matches the old work perfectly. They even suggested that we work with our home builder prior to contracting with Davey because they thought is might be accepted as a warranty claim and fixed with no charge to us. When we found out that our home builder would not cover it under warranty, Davey performed the services and then gave us a discount equal to the service price for our next job with them...because they felt bad that we had to pay for it!Now that's service!
Description of Work: Davey Tile removed and replaced old leaking grout, tiles, and wallboard in our shower. The repaired area was approximately 20 sq ft.
